Opis:
The paper presents method for thermal generation reduction in low level light applications, especially where measured phenomena have random character. The algorithm was developed basing on cosmic ray measurements. The main parts of the system are: Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM), front-end ASIC for amplifying and shaping signals. SiPM is a very sensitive device which can detect single photons. Comparing to a standard photomultiplier SiPM has a compact size, low operating voltage and it is immune to an electromagnetic field. Thermally generated signals are disadvantage of SiPM. This paper presents the measurement method to reduce influence of thermal generation.

Opis:
This work is presented as a further study to our previous work, “Thermal performance analysis of a natural convection porous fin with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity and internal heat" published in "Thermal Science and Engineering Progress. 1 (2017) 39–52”, where it was assumed that the surface convection is negligible and heat is transferred only by natural convection in the porous fin. In this present study, such an assumption has been relaxed. Also, effects of surface convective heat transfer on the thermal performance of porous fin with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity and internal heat generation have been investigated using Galerkin’s method of weighted residual. The results of the Galerkin’s method of weighted residual show excellent agreement with the results of numerical method using shooting method coupled with Runge-Kutta method and also with the results of homotopy perturbation method. Thereafter, the developed analytical solutions are used to investigate the influences of the thermal model parameters on the thermal performance of the porous fin. It is found as the with the other model parameters that as the convective parameter increases, the rate of heat transfer from the base of the fin increases and consequently, the porous fin efficiency improves. However, increase in the nonlinear thermal conductivity parameter decreases the temperature distribution in the fin. Based on the high accuracy of the Galerkin’s method of weighted residual as displayed in this work, it is hoped that the simple analytical solutions given by the approximate analytical method will enhance the analysis of extended surfaces and also assist the designers.

Opis:
In this study, the effects of internal heat generation on thermal stability of porous fin is theoretical investigated using differential transform method. The parametric studies reveal increase in the internal heat generation leads to increase in the value or the range of the thermal stability of the fin. The internal heat generation can be used to control the thermal instability in the fin. Also, as the porosity parameter increase, the rate of heat transfer from the base of the fin and consequently improve the efficiency of the fin increase. However, a high value or an excessive internal heat generation results in an undesirable situation where some of the heat energy cannot escape to the sink and instead ends up flowing into the prime surface and the fin tends to store heat rather than dissipating it. This scenario defeats the prime purpose of the cooling fin. Therefore, the operational parameters must be carefully selected to ensure that the fin retains its primary purpose of removing heat from the primary surface.

This paper studies, the impacts of heat generation on MHD flow of radiative nanofluid over an exponentially stretching sheet in a porous medium with viscous dissipation are numerically analyzed. Two sorts of nanofluids, generated by solid nanoparticles with water such as alumina-water nanofluid and silver-water nanofluid were investigated. With the use of similarity transformations, to obtain a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resulting boundary value problem is solved numerically using the Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting technique scheme together with fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration method. Numerical results are obtained for the velocity, temperature distribution and concentration profiles for selected values of the governing physical parameters of combined magnetic interaction and porosity parameter, heat generation parameter, viscous dissipation parameter, thermal radiation parameter, solid volume fraction parameter, chemical reaction parameter and Lewis number are discussed. Quantities of engineering interest such as Skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number are also obtained numerically and are tabulated.

An investigation has been carried out for the MHD 3-dimensional flow of nanofluid over a shrinking sweet saturating a porous media in the presence of thermal radiation and heat generation. Convective boundary conditions for the flow phenomena are used in the present analysis. The governing equations are reduced to ODEs employing suitable similarity transformations. The solutions of formulated differential equations have been attained mathematically by fourth order R-K technique along with the shooting method. Opis:
The current task explores automatic generation control knowledge under old-style circumstances for a triple-arena scheme. Sources in area-1 are thermal-solar thermal (ST); thermalgeothermal power plant (GPP) in area-2 and thermal-hydro in area-3. An original endeavour has been set out to execute a new performance index named hybrid peak area integral squared error (HPA-ISE) and two-stage controller with amalgamation of proportional-integral and fractional order proportional-derivative, hence named as PI(FOPD). The performance of PI(FOPD) has been compared with varied controllers like proportional-integral (PI), proportional-integralderivative (PID). Various investigation express excellency of PI(FOPD) controller over other controller from outlook regarding lessened level of peak anomalies and time duration for settling. Thus, PI(FOPD) controller’s excellent performance is stated when comparison is undergone for a three-area basic thermal system. The above said controller’s gains and related parameters are developed by the aid of Artificial Rabbit Optimization (ARO). Also, studies with HPA-ISE enhances system dynamics over ISE. Moreover, a study on various area capacity ratios (ACR) suggests that high ACR shows better dynamics. The basic thermal system is united with renewable sources ST in area-1 also GPP in area-2. Also, hydro unit is installed in area-3. The performance of this new combination of system is compared with the basic thermal system using PI(FOPD) controller. It is detected that dynamic presentation of new system is improved. Action in existence of redox flow battery is also examined which provides with noteworthy outcome. PI(FOPD) parameters values at nominal condition are appropriate for higher value of disturbance without need for optimization.

The aim of the research was to compare the results of the thermal decomposition of organic matter using different research methods. Experiments were carried out to assess interpretation methods in the characterization of the generation potential of source rocks. The research was conducted for samples of Menilite shales, recognized on the basis of long-term geochemical studies as good quality source rocks. The samples represented the Menilite Beds of the Silesian Unit, taken from the outcrops in the Carpathians. Research using known methods: Rock-Eval pyrolysis (RE), thermogravimetric and calorimetric methods (TG/DSC), and pyrolysis methods combined with gas chromatography analysis (PY-GC), were performed on the same samples- both on rock samples, as well as isolated kerogen. Such integrated studies have so far not been conducted on any rock material. The applied research methods showed a significant comparability of the results obtained. A number of correlations were found between the parameters from individual methods, including: the amount of hydrocarbons separated during PY-GC in the temperature range of 300–650°C, and the parameter S2 from RE, and mass loss in the TG analysis in the same temperature range; S2 values of rock samples and kerogen with weight loss as a result of pyrolysis from TG/DSC analysis at temperatures in the range of 300–650°C; temperature values of the maximum peak S2 (Tpk2) of rock samples with the maximum mass loss temperature during TG analysis; residual carbon content (RC) from RE analysis of rock and kerogen samples with a mass loss as a result of burning residual organic matter from TG/DSC analysis at temperatures in the range of 650–1050°C. The mass loss determined during thermogravimetric analysis, combined with the percentage share of individual hydrocarbon fractions, in which the C9+ fraction is significant, confirms the high petroleum potential of the organic substance contained in the Menilite Beds. Comparative studies of pyrolytic methods: Rock Eval, TG/DSC and PY-GC have proved the compatibility of the results obtained with all methods. Each of the methods also makes it possible to obtain mutually complementary information relating to the TOC, the degree of thermal maturity and type of generated hydrocarbons and other non-hydrocarbon compounds. The conducted tests and performed correlations showed the usefulness of a set of thermal methods to obtain complete information on source rocks.

Entropy generation of a steady Jeffrey fluid flow over a deformable vertical porous layer is analysed with consideration of a first-order chemical reaction and thermal diffusion. The porous material is modelled as a homogeneous binary mixture of fluid and solid phases where each point in the binary mixture is occupied concurrently by the fluid and solid. The combined phenomenon of solid deformation and fluid movement is taken into account. The impact of relevant parameters on the fluid velocity, solid displacement, temperature and concentration profiles is discussed. It is noticed that the Jeffrey fluid parameter enhances the entropy generation number, fluid velocity and solid displacement profiles, but a reverse effect is seen for the Bejan number. Further, entropy generation, fluid velocity and solid displacement reduce due to the higher estimates of the chemical reaction parameter, while the Bejan number enhances.

The present paper deals with thermal behaviour analysis of an axisymmetric functionally graded thermosensitive hollow cylinder. The system of coordinates are expressed in cylindrical-polar form. The heat conduction equation is of time-fractional order02<α≤, subjected to the effect of internal heat generation. Convective boundary conditions are applied to inner and outer curved surfaces whereas heat dissipates following Newton’s law of cooling. The lower surface is subjected to heat flux, whereas the upper surface is thermally insulated. Kirchhoff’s transformation is used to remove the nonlinearity of the heat equation and further it is solved to find temperature and associated stresses by applying integral transformation method. For numerical analysis a ceramic-metal-based functionally graded material is considered and the obtained results of temperature distribution and associated stresses are presented graphically.

A study has been made on the flow and heat transfer of a viscous fluid in a vertical channel with first order chemical reaction and heat generation or absorption assuming that the viscosity and thermal conductivity are dependent on the fluid temperature. The temperature of the walls is maintained constant. Under these assumptions, the governing balance equations of mass, momentum and energy are formulated. The dimensionless forms of the governing equations are coupled and non-linear, which cannot be solved analytically and therefore require the use of the Runge-Kutta fourth order along with shooting technique. Graphs for velocity and temperature under different values of parameters involved are plotted and discussed. The skin friction and Nusselt number on the channel walls are also computed and discussed. Furthermore, the investigation found that variable viscosity and variable thermal conductivity enhance the velocity and temperature of the flow.

Opis:
In thermos fluid dynamics, free convection flows external to different geometries, such as cylinders, ellipses, spheres, curved walls, wavy plates, cones, etc., play major role in various industrial and process engineering systems. The thermal buoyancy force associated with natural convection flows can play a critical role in determining skin friction and heat transfer rates at the boundary. In thermal engineering, natural convection flows from cylindrical bodies has gained exceptional interest. In this article, we mathematically evaluate an entropy analysis of magnetohydrodynamic third-grade convection flows from permeable cylinder considering velocity and thermal slip effects. The resulting non-linear coupled partial differential conservation equations with associated boundary conditions are solved with an efficient unconditionally stable implicit finite difference Keller-Box technique. The impacts of momentum and heat transport coefficients, entropy generation and Bejan number are computed for several values of non-dimensional parameters arising in the flow equations. Streamlines are plotted to analyze the heat transport process in a two-dimensional domain. Furthermore, the deviations of the flow variables are compared with those computed for a Newtonian fluid and this has important implications in industrial thermal material processing operations, aviation technology, different enterprises, energy systems and thermal enhancement of industrial flow processes.
