Opis:
The window is a recurring image in the imaginarium and the art of Tadeusz Kantor. Fixed in his memory at an early age, it resurfaced in the spectacle Wielopole, Wielopole (1980) as a plain object "of the reality of the lowest kind", and in the 'cricotage' A Very Short Lesson (1988) as a quasi stage prop charged with metaphysical meaning. The window motif is also a persistent feature of his graphic art. Most notably, it appears in the drawing Man and window (1971), a picture for the Dead Class (Window) from 1983, an autothematic cycle of paintings You cannot look inside through the window with impunity (1988-1990), and Kantor's last dated drawing of pigeons being watched through a window. Kantor's fascination with the window as an objet d'art can be explained by his philosophical aesthetics (especially the use of objects as markers of the 'spaces' of the stage action). This article analyzes the image of the window as a 'site' of special significance in Kantor's art (an object that encapsulates the antynomy of inside/outside, or a claustrophobic incarceration/a barrier to entry) in the context of Hans-Ulrich Gumbrecht's theory of latency (i.e. the inability of throwing off the past, the suspension of time symbolized by artistic constructs of imprisonment).

Opis:
“Theatricality” is a term describing the use of theatrical means of expression in various domains of life. It is an added, spectacular, visual, performative, and dramatic element of different social events and activities. Theatricality it is an area where two entities—life and art—meet, which results either in conflict or in unification. Life transforms into theatre and theatre transforms into life. Theatricality is, thus, a transient region between life and art. Consequently, it is a model example of a border zone. From centuries theatricality was used as a means in the process of interhuman communication. It served to amplify and facilitate interhuman communication and gave it a specific meaning. Theatricality was also employed as a powerful instrument of manipulating and falsifying messages. In contemporary theatre artistic creation is the primary goal and aesthetics takes primacy over all other objectives and values motivating and permeating theatre work. In theatricality the reasons and goals of using theatrical and theatre-like means of expression are practical—such as, for example, religious, social, political, or commercial. Theatre aspires (not always successfully) to situating its works in the realm of art, on the universal and transhistorical level, while theatricality is practically oriented.

Opis:
This paper attempts to acquaint Polish readers with the Russian Orthodox philosopher Pavel Florensky’s (1882–1937) thinking on the category of space‑ness, which together with the categories of symbolism and light is one of the key‑words in his theory of aesthetics. The concept of space is, according to Florensky, a criterion for distinguishing art types, although for him it is only a model, which can be used to help form judgments about the world. It is also the basis of being for the artwork itself. Painting and printmaking, among other arts types mentioned by Florensky (poetry, music, theatre, and architecture), have their own particularities in their organization of space. Painting and printmaking are, for Florensky, the truest art forms — art par excellence. The presentation of a threefold interpretation of the category of space‑ness, together with the description and justification of the divisions which are made in art based on these spatial categories by the philosopher is the leitmotiv of this paper. The aim of the paper is to present and discuss the opinions and arguments of the Orthodox thinker from his work Анализ пространственности (и времени) в художественно‑изобразительных произведениях, which has not yet been translated into Polish or English.
