    In this study, Janusz Mariański first presents selected themes from the works of Jan Szczepański, the great representative of Polish sociological thought. These themes include: the moral condition of Polish society (the concept of man and society, the morality of public life, economy and work ethos, manifestations of moral evil, suffering) and moral revival as an idea and reality, with particular emphasis on the issues of individuality. On the basis of these findings, Mariański formulates some general conclusions regarding moral transformations in Polish society and a proposal for changes conducive to moral revival (moral reform, a revitalization of morality, moral education).

    The article is an attempt to diagnose selected cultural and social threats and to relate them to the everyday life of church musicians and their profession. In this regard, the reflection is based on the analysis presented in the book Kłopot za kłopotem. Katolik w dryfującej Europie [Trouble follows trouble. A Catholic in a drifting Europe] by Fr Maciej Zięba OP. In the second part, the article refers to the tripartite model of sacred music, consisting of feeling, aesthetics and mystery, proposed by an eminent theologian, member of the Pontifical Academy of Theology, Professor Inos Biffi. This model should provide answers to quetions of interest to us: How can a Christian musician plan and shape his professional future? Can he face the growing problems, and if so, then how?
    Artykuł jest próbą zdiagnozowania wybranych kulturowych i społecznych zagrożeń oraz odniesienia ich do zawodowej codzienności muzyków kościelnych w oparciu o analizę zawarta w książce Macieja Zięby OP Kłopot za kłopotem. Katolik w dryfującej Europie. Kolejno, tekst wykorzystuje model trzech głównych komponentów muzyki sakralnej: uczucia, estetyki i misterium, sformułowanego przez teologa, członka Papieskiej Akademii Teologicznej, prof. Inosa Biffiego, aby w tym modelu poszukać odpowiedzi na interesujące nas pytanie – w jaki sposób chrześcijański muzyk może planować i realizować swoją zawodową przyszłość, czy i w jaki sposób może mierzyć się z narastającymi problemami.

    Opis:
    Scientists’ professional work is a style of using the freedom of receiving and transmitting the word because of striving after the truth typical of the ‘scientific perspective of the world’. The use of such freedom is revealed by the researcher’s definition of himself: he is the one who has the duty of joining criticism with conceptualism; objectivity with rationalism; ‘disobedience in thinking’ with being careful about ‘sovereignty of the thought’; taking care of the functioning of a lot of ‘research programs’ that compete with each other with care of polyphony in scientific discussions. The characteristic of the style of research work is combined with the characteristic of the scientist as an actor playing social roles in the professional circle. The scientist uses the freedom that he needs as a professional-specialist doing his work within the frames of a special kind of institution. Taking into consideration the existence of ‘the Great Science’ and ‘a mass man in science’, we are dealing here with conformation of the scientist as one who wants to use this kind of freedom. We are talking here about the difficulty of exacting respect for the norms of the ethos of science from scientists. This is connected with constant conflicts in the circle of scientists that originate from different ways of understanding and treating those norms. Ecological realities of the scientific work only to some extent favor practicing the profession of the scientist in the proper way. In many respects those realities seriously hinder the proper use of the freedom to receive and transmit the word because of the truth of the scientific type. The realities of the order of scientific search and consideration; the realities of the scientists’ circle; the realities of the world surrounding the scientists’ circle along with its institutions are all significant here. Hence it is important, in our present time, to be faithful to the fundamental dictates to think and to act, which concerns those who make the search for the scientific truth their profession and their vocation.

    Opisując kontekst przemian ideologii pracy we współczesnej Polsce Mirosława Marody i Mikołaj Lewicki (2010, s. 114) przywołują fragment sejmowego przemówienia, w którym Leszek Balcerowicz 17 grudnia 1989 r. przedstawiał założenia swojego programu gospodarczego. Zwracają uwagę, że proponowane zmiany były prezentowane przez ich architekta w taki sposób, jakby nie wymagały uzasadnienia ideologicznego, a słuszność ich kierunku była sama przez się zrozumiała. „Nasza propozycja to gospodarka oparta na mechanizmach rynkowych, o strukturze własnościowej występującej w krajach wysoko rozwiniętych, otwarta na świat, gospodarka, której reguły są dla wszystkich jasne” - mówił Balcerowicz. Proponowane zmiany, można rozumieć, były „naturalnym”, słusznym krokiem ku „normalizacji” sytuacji gospodarczej w kraju.

    The subject of the article is the issue of the youth religious education at vocational secondary schools after the school reform which was carried out in Poland after 1932. There are two main lines considered in this article, namely; transfer of the truths of faith and moral and religious upbringing. The first one is connected with passing on the dogmatic and ethical contents, and the other one is connected with the religious formation. In this way the teaching program of religion shows students theoretical and practical hints which influence the quality of the Christian life. It does not only concern shaping the Catholic worldview and motivating to practice the faith, but also upbringing to fulfilling jobs with the respect of law and the Christian values.
