    Przedmiotem artykułu jest zależność pomiędzy relacjami z matką i ojcem a poczuciem sensu życia u adolescentów pochodzących z rodzin rozbitych. Przeprowadzone badania w grupie 146 adolescentów z rodzin rozbitych za pomocą Kwestionariusz Relacji Rodzinnych Plopy i Połomskiego oraz Kwestionariusza Postaw Życiowych Klamuta dowiodły istnienia dość silnej zależności pomiędzy relacjami z matką a poczuciem sensu życia u dorastających dzieci. Relacje z ojcem nie wykazały tak silnych zależności.
    The subcject of the article is the relationship between relations with mother and father and thesense of meaning of life tin adolescents from broken families. The study was conducted in groupof 146 adolescents from broken families, using the Plopa and Połomski Family Relations Questionnaire and the Klamut Life Postures Questionnaire, proved the existence of a fairly strong relationship between relations with mother and the sense of meaning of life in adolescent children.Relationships with their fathers have not shown such strong dependencies.

    Opis:
    The needs of individual to find meaning in his own life and to build own future conception are considered as important regulators of youth activity. This is a thesis accepted in psychological literature (Tyszkowa, 1990). Their realization is not only provided a positive transition of a youth to adulthood but also sets the framework for their further development. The article presents the results of research on the relation between sense of meaning in life and personal future conceptions built by modern young people. The results indicate that a relatively strong sense of meaning in life is characteristic for these adolescents, which created the conceptions of life with a high level of structuration.

    Postawy młodzieży i ludzi dorosłych wobec życia jako całości, a także wobec egzystencji ludzkiej w jej różnych przejawach i wymiarach stanowią ważny przedmiot badań psychologicznych i socjologicznych. Chodzi tu o subiektywny obraz własnego życia w świadomości badanych będący sumą doświadczeń życiowych: pozytywnych i negatywnych, wewnętrznych i zewnętrznych, subiektywnych i obiektywnych. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań socjologicznych nad sensem życia w świadomości młodzieży polskiej. Omówiono trzy zagadnienia: częstotliwość myślenia o sensie życia, poczucie sensu i zadowolenie z życia oraz poczucie bezsensu życia. W świetle danych empirycznych można by określić świadomość egzystencjalną młodych Polaków jako dość ambiwalentną, wahającą się między sensem i bezsensem życia. Tylko mniej więcej połowa młodzieży polskiej deklaruje, że życie ma sens i daje jej zadowolenie.
    The attitudes of both the youth and adults towards life as a whole and towards different manifestations and dimensions of human existence, are all important subjects of psychological and sociological research. What it concerns is a subjective image of one’s own life that is formed in consciousness of the studied groups’ representatives stemming from the sum of their life experiences: positive and negative, internal and external, subjective and objective. The article presents the results of sociological research on the meaning of life in the awareness of Polish youth. The following three issues are discussed: the frequency of reflecting upon the meaning of life, the one’s sense of life’s meaning and life satisfaction, as well as the sense of life’s meaningless. In the light of empirical data, the generalised existential awareness of young Poles could be described as quite ambivalent, as if on the fence between life’s meaningfulness and meaninglessness. Only about a half of Polish youth declares that life indeed has a meaning to them and provides them with a sense of satisfaction.

    Article paying attention to the quantitative growth of the elderly population, brings up the subject ethical indexation of old age in the context of the crisis associated with the fear of the inevitable approach of death, and the same doubts about the meaning of life. Subject important in itself, but also because of the a strong cult of youth, widely prevalent in popular culture and ideology of consumerism. The consequence for this phenomenon has become almost a general reducing social status of the elderly, and consequently, changes in of attitudes of people and social thinking about old age. Author writing about the necessity of finding the meaning of life in old age, encourages to appreciate old age. The article is a kind of postulates to create a new axiology of old age based on a theological value as a significant stage eschatological road for connecting with God.

    In this article, I present the results of my sociological research on the perception and assessment of the role of religion by Polish youth in the sense of life and people’s happiness. I realized out my own research in 2008 among 456 school youth in Kalisz and in 2011 among 426 students of the College of Communications and Management in Poznan. The results of my research are confronted here with the results of research of other sociologists with they realized (implemented) in the past (XX) century among high school youth and students on the subject of existential role. A comparative analysis of the results of both research showed significant changes in the assessment of today’s (contemporary) Polish youth, which the of religion in giving meaning to life and a sense of happiness for people. Today’s youth (from the 21st century) in Poland is more critical of the existential role of religion and more often questions the necessity of this role in people’s lives than the youth of the past century. At the same time, the indicator of today’s youth has decreased, which accepts fully or conditionally (partially) the role of religion in life and in the feeling of happiness by people. Indicator of positive of the existential role of religion among Polish youth were much greater in the past century.

    Opis:
    Mental well-being is important for mental and physical health as well as for professional efficiency of employees, it also converts into measurable benefits for the workplace. The results of bad state of mental health are loss of efficiency, costs associated with the absence or non-efficient performance of duties. A special case of mental health worsening, that is a succession of sustained, unresolved stress connected with work, is burnout. This syndrome occurs especially often in people who are exposed to strong stressors at work and are responsible for the safety of themselves and others. An occupational group especially exposed to burnout are officers of the Prison Service. The purpose of the research was to determine the relations between the level of occupational burnout and the feeling of happiness and meaning in life of the officers of the Prison Service. The study examined 60 people employed in 3 penitentiaries. It turned out that occupational burnout, measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory, was negatively correlated with sense of meaning in life measured by The Meaning in Life Questionnaire. Positive relations occurred between the feeling of happiness measured by the Steen Happiness Index and the reduced personal accomplishment measured by the MBI.
    Dobrostan psychiczny ma istotne znaczenie dla zdrowia psychicznego i fizycznego oraz efektywności zawodowej pracowników, przekłada się bowiem na wymierne korzyści w miejscu pracy. Skutkami złego stanu zdrowia psychicznego są utrata wydajności oraz koszty związane z absencją czy nieefektywnym wykonywaniem obowiązków. Szczególnym przypadkiem pogorszenia się stanu zdrowia psychicznego, będącego następstwem długotrwałego, nierozwiązanego stresu związanego z pracą, jest wypalenie zawodowe. Syndrom ten występuje szczególnie często u osób narażonych w pracy na silne stresory, na których spoczywa duża odpowiedzialność za bezpieczeństwo swoje i innych. Grupą zawodową szczególnie narażoną na wypalenie zawodowe są funkcjonariusze Służby Więziennej. Celem badań było ustalenie zależności pomiędzy poziomem wypalenia zawodowego a poczuciem szczęścia i sensu życia u funkcjonariuszy Służby Więziennej. Przebadano 60 osób zatrudnionych w trzech zakładach karnych. Okazało się, że wypalenie zawodowe mierzone Kwestionariuszem Wypalenia Zawodowego jest ujemnie skorelowane z poszukiwaniem sensu życia mierzonym Kwestionariuszem Sensu Życia. Pozytywne zależności wystąpiły również pomiędzy poczuciem szczęścia mierzonym Kwestionariuszem Poczucia Jakości Życia SHI-PL a poczuciem własnych dokonań mierzonych Kwestionariuszem Wypalenia Zawodowego.

    The article addresses the meaning and loss of meaning of life and death in the context of the modern world and classical philosophy, whose most prominent representative is Thomas Aquinas. There are also references to more contemporary thinkers and philosophers representing various cultural, political and – from certain points of view – also doctrinal backgrounds (G. K. Chesterton, Leszek Kołakowski) – which shows the relevance and significance of the problem. Therefore, referring predominantly to the teaching of Aquinas’ writings, especially the "Summa Theologiae", it is demon-strated that it is eschatology that alone can give the right meaning to life and death, which is currently marginalised in the universal mentality and is a consequence of radically materialistic and post-positivist view of the world (associated with the suc-cesses of exact sciences) hostile to Christianity (which fulfils the objectives of escha-tology most closely). The rejection of eschatology, and in consequence purposefulness which is a source and purpose of all human actions (the human ultimate goal is happi-ness, which St. Thomas – relying on Aristotle – equates with God) calls into question the very nature of man and – as viewed by the mentioned thinkers – may lead to the annihilation of humankind.
