In the text entitled “Press advertising – varieties and sub-varieties. Methods of promoting the press”, the author discusses press advertising, which is a fast developing mass-media phenomenon. Modernity has granted press advertising a high quality of print and paper, as well as Infinite possibilities of combining various promotional forms with the press. The author argues that press advertising is one of the best ways in which a company can communicate with the market. Its advantage is, above all, a high frequency of distributing the contents and the possibility of conveying accurate advertising information in vast quantities.

The article addresses the issue of the meaning of student editorial practice in teaching in journalism degree programs. It aims to discuss theoretical matters related to this kind of extra-formal activity and to present a specific example of how a student press editorial office functions at the University of Szczecin. The author’s interest is focused around the benefits that accrue from this kind of student activity regarding the acquisition of knowledge, practical skills and soft competences, as well as shaping attitudes indispensable in their future work in the media. In the initial theoretical part of the article, the assumptions of modern teaching in journalism programs were discussed with a reference to models of teaching that function in European countries, with the significant role of practical teaching of journalism skills also indicated. The latter part of the article is a specific case study that includes a closer look at the ways of implementing student editorial activities conducted simultaneously with the content of the study program. The analysis covers general assumptions, organization of work in an editorial office, a description of the publishing activity of an editorial office and the issue of student press in the space of the new media. Moreover, an attempt was made to assess the effectiveness of the conducted activities. In conclusion, the author states that being active in student media may constitute a valuable complement to obligatory student apprenticeships and allow students to perfect their journalism skills on an ongoing basis throughout the course of studies.

W artykule wskazane i omówione zostały regulacje prawne dotyczące ochrony prawa do prywatność, które stanowić mogą barierę dla swobodnego rozpowszechniania w prasie informacji na temat osób fizycznych. Omówiona została ogólna zasada wolności wypowiedzi oraz jej ograniczenia w postaci prawa do prywatności. Analizie poddany został dozwolony zakres ingerencji mediów w sferę prywatności osób fizycznych, że względu na funkcje społeczne, które osoba pełni w społeczeństwie oraz ze względu na zainteresowanie, które w społeczeństwie wywołuje działalność danej osoby. W artykule wskazano na sposób definiowana przez orzecznictwo sądowe i doktrynę prawa takich pojęć jak „ działalność publiczna”, „osoba publiczna”, „funkcjonariusz publiczny”. W szeroki sposób omówiony został art. 14 ust 6 prawa prasowego zezwalający na ingerencję prasy w sferę prywatności osoby fizycznej, gdy wiąże się to z działalnością publiczną danej osoby.
The article discussed legal regulations concerning protection of the right to privacy, which may constitute a barrier to the free dissemination information about persons in the press. It was discussed the general principle - freedom of expression and its limitations which is right to privacy. The analysis concerns the extent of the interference in the privacy due to social functions that a person performs in society and due to interest person causes in public life. In the article it was pointed how the terms: “public activity”, “public person”, “public officer” were defined in judicature and doctrine of the law. In a broad way it was discussed art. 14 paragraph 6 of the polish press law which concerns interference with the right to privacy.

The article discusses improvisational performances of the Philomaths in the context of the advent of a so-called modernity which correlated with a rapid change in people’s lifestyles. My starting point in examining the most characteristic phenomena of the literary life in Vilnius is the newly emerged economic environment: the enormous popularity of improvised poems (performed or written impromptu) and the development of the printed press. The analysis of the Philomaths’ performances, letters and poems focuses on various aspects of improvising, and not only on poetry presentations but also on a spontaneous way of living and the process of literary production. I argue that the improvisational activity of the Philomaths can be considered as an act of experimenting with and adapting various (traditional as well as innovative) literary patterns, and therefore as a poetic laboratory of the new romantic era.

W pierwszej omówiono historię i zaprezentowano obydwa periodyki. Druga stanowi analizę zawartości „Stron Sandomierskich” i „Goworka” wraz ze wskazaniem pełnionych przez magazyny funkcji.
The aim of the article is to discuss the functions of cultural magazines in Sandomierz – “Strony Sandomierskie” and “Goworek”. The publication consists of two parts. The first deals with the history and presents both periodicals. The second one is an analysis of the content of “Strony Sandomierskie” and “Goworek” with an indication of the functions performed by these magazines.

Is to present lexical ways of evaluation, which are present in press articles dedicated to the election of E. Kopacz for prime minister. The study material consists of articles published in eight public opinion weeklies, which were published in Poland in September of 2014. They are journals with different ideological profiles. Among the noted lexical terms, there are primarily-evaluative as well as descriptively-evaluative expressions. These are adjectives, adverbs, participles, pronouns and modality indicators. Numerously represented are statements in which the authors report affirmations that evaluate other people. The analysed terms invoke, most of all, the utilitarian, perfectionist, cognitive, socially-custom criterion. Among the noted terms, the majority consists of those with a negative value mark. As it turned out, the ideological engagement of periodicals had a slight impact on the media image of E. Kopacz. An almost solely negative evaluation was present in conservative press. However, the press, which can be described as liberal, also pointed the weaknesses of the new prime minister, recalling negative opinions about her. It did it, however, in a more veiled manner.

This is a review of the state of research of the Cracow press from its beginnings (ie. occasional newspapers) up to 2009. In his study of the Cracow press the author adopts the concept of local press’ (ie. where the key criterion is that of the place of publication regardless of the outreach). A survey of the publications shows that research into the history of the Cracow press boomed after World War II. As scores of articles, monographs and reports were published, the focus of interest was extended from the old grounds of the early press history, the 19th century and the Republic of Cracow, or the press of the Nazi occupation period to the new fields of the press history of the interwar years 1918–1939 as well as the post-1945 and post-1989 periods

For the first time, Karl Loewenstein had used the category of militant democracy concerning the Weimar Republic. Although the world’s situation has changed, the process of political systems taking over non-democratic regimes’ characteristics is still visible. Among the indicators that can testify to becoming militant democracy, the restriction of freedom of the press is distinguished. This article attempts to analyze the dynamics of this process in Lithuania based on the Freedom House reports. The research question formulated is: What restrictions on the press’s freedom in Lithuania occurred in the period? The hypothesis is: In 2008-2019 in Lithuania, there has been a regular restriction on the freedom of the press, which may indicate a progressive process of militant democracy. Results: The hypothesis has been partially verified positively. During the period considered, there were regular restrictions on the freedom of the press but were justified mainly by circumstances, or immediate counter-action was taken.

This paper aims to demonstrate mechanisms of intertextual strategies, which require the recipient to be familiar with pragmatic codes, to discover references and allusions, and to be able to discern various textual relations. The analyses have been conducted on the example of four titles: W Sieci (On the Web), Polityka (Politics), Najwyższy Czas (High Time), Przegląd (Overview). The motivation for the research was the conviction that the title page in opinion-forming periodicals functions as a product of mass culture and can serve as the basis for describing the area of interests of the contemporary human being.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie obrazu Polonii harbińskiej, jaki wyłania się z polonijnej prasy. Za daty krańcowe wybrano rok 1931 – początek aneksji Mandżurii przez Armię Kwańtuńską oraz rok 1937 – początek II wojny chińsko-japońskiej. Głównymi źródłami są trzy najważniejsze gazety polonijne: wydawane przez Stowarzyszenie „Gospoda Polska” – „Listy Harbińskie” i „Daleki Wschód” oraz redagowany przez polskich, katolickich duchownych: „Tygodnik Polski”. Źródłem uzupełniającym jest wydawany w Warszawie: „Kwartalnik Wschód”, ściśle powiązany z dwoma pierwszymi tytułami. Prasa polonijna, pisząc o działalności tutejszej społeczności polskiej, najbardziej skupiała się na takich aspektach jak: działalność oświatowo-kulturalna, w przypadku „Listów Harbińskich”, „Dalekiego Wschodu” i „Kwartalnika Wschód” oraz religijno-kulturowa, w przypadku „Tygodnika Polskiego”. Wszystkie numery wiele miejsca poświęcały działalności charytatywnej tutejszej Polonii. Z lektury źródła możemy także wywnioskować, że członków Polonii harbińskiej cechował zarówno patriotyzm, jak i pobożność, a także otwartość na inne kultury. W prasie brakuje jednak bezpośrednich wzmianek o represjach, które mogłyby spotkać członków Polonii harbińskiej, ze strony władz okupacyjnych miasta.
The aim of the article is to present a picture of the Polish Diaspora in Harbian which emerges from the Polish press. For the end dates, the year 1931 was chosen – the beginning of annexation of Manchuria by the Kwantung Army, and the end date was the year 1937 – The beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The main sources are the three most important Polish newspapers: published by the association “Gospoda Polska” [Polish Inn] – “Listy Harbińskie” [Letters from Harbin] “Daleki Wschód” [Far East] and edited by Polish, Catholic clerics: “Tygodnik Polski” [Polish Weekly]. The supplementary source is issued in Warsaw: “Kwartalnik Wschód” [Quarterly East], which is closely linked to the first two titles. In writing about the activities of the local Polish community in Harbin, the Polish press mostly focused on such aspects as: educational and cultural activities, in the case of the “Listy harbińskie”, “Daleki Wschód” and “Kwartalnik Wschód” and religious-cultural issues, in the case of “Tygodnik Polski”. All numbers devoted a considerable amount of space to the charitable activities of the local Polonia. From reading the sources, we can also deduce that both patriotism and piety were important for the members of Harbińska Polonia, as well as openness to other cultures. However, the press lacks direct mention of the repressions which could have touched the members of the Polish community in Harbin by the occupying authorities of the city.

Galicia’s autonomous status was in fact a doubletrack affair. On the one hand Galicia became a shining example of freedom and autonomy, embedded in the new constitutional order of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, while on the other hand it was tied down to a monarchical absolutism which offered only limited protection of individual rights. The press in particular was caught in the dilemmas produced by this situation, especially in the sensitive areas of political loyalty and religion.
Autonomiczna Galicja była krajem dwóch prędkości. Z jednej strony stanowiła konstytucyjnie afiliowany kaganek wolności i autonomii, z drugiej — związana z monarchistycznym absolutyzmem — limitowała ochronę jednostki i przyznanych jej obywatelskich praw. Swoistym zakładnikiem owej dychotomii działań — w imię ochrony władzy i religii — stała się prasa.
