    The presentation is based largely on the teaching and testimony of Pope John Paul II. Particular emphasis was placed on the statement of Pope-Pole that there is no such misery and sin God could not raise up a man from. The message of the reflection seems concrete, positive and valid in the context of the Year of Mercy lived for in Church. It is in harmony with the service of human greater openness to the grace of God's Mercy and entrusting all suffering to Him. The dynamics of the reasoning passes from the look “deeper” of the one who suffers, through his experience of the relationship with the Merciful, to the school of “greater humanity”.

    Opis:
    The parable of the father and his two sons in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 15:11-32) makes part of a series of parables depicting the attitude of God toward sinful man. It is the attitude of seeking, concern, love, and joy in the presence of which nobody, even the greatest sinner, is excluded. The present article focuses on that attitude by exposing relationships between father and his two sons. Despite the fact that the narrative presents the events from the perspective of the sons, the father can be considered the main character of the parable. The story of the sons shows the drama of father’s love which was rejected and misunderstood by them. Both sons lose their dignity by denying their father’s love, but only the younger seems to realize it. The father shows both of them the same love and assures them that in his eyes they have never lost their sonship and they have never been deprived of it. Each of the children has to be re-adopted; each in his own way indicated by the father. The younger has to accept paternal forgiveness which is full of mercy and joy prompted by his return. The elder, on the other hand, has to imitate the mercy and joy offered by the father to his younger son.

    Opis:
    First the author discusses the problems connected with the literary layer of the blessings (I), then the meaning of particular verses (II), and finally some theological ideas of the pericope, as well as concluding remarks (III). Explaining the first blessing the author thinks that tw pn uμati should be understood as dat. instrumentalis (“with spirit”) and at the same time relationis (“in spirit”). The second blessing refers to those who are sad because Christ and God seem to be “the great absentees” from the modern world. Gentle ones are those who are not indignant about adversities that life brings and can keep patient. To hunger and thirst for righteousness means to desire a life that is accordant with the Father’s will. Coming to somebody’s aid and forgiving is a characteristic of merciful people; and showing mercy to other people is a manifestation of mercy actually received from God. Blessing people who are pure in heart concerns people in whom there is no falsehood or spite, people who look for the good and try to be honest towards God and their neighbors. “Peacemakers” are those who act for establishing conditions in which everybody may develop according to God’s plan. People who suffer for the sake of righteousness are the ones who are persecuted because of their desire to lead their lives according to God’s will.

    The teachings of Pope Francis described demonstrate how important it is to him to accustom Christians to a merciful lifestyle and to revive the mercy culture. If the way of the Church – as St. John Paul II taught in accordance with the Second Vatican Council – is man, then for Pope Francis, the way of the Church is a man who needs God's mercy in the form of being preached the word of God, repentance, and absolution of sins to, in other words – a sinful and repentant man; and then a man who is poor – who needs material support, restoration of justice and dignity of God's image, spiritual consolation, acceptance, affection and compassion. Christians are obliged to share the mercy granted by God and people with others. They are to imitate merciful Jesus, see Him in the poor and suffering, be the outstretched hands of Christ and of His merciful Mother. The Pope wishes mercy not to be merely talked about, but also to be lived by.

    Opis:
    This is the second article devoted to Father Stefan Antoni Podworski, one of the most outstanding Observants monks at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was published in Łódź Theological Studies Quarterly, vol. 23/4: 2014, pp. 103-119 (Father Stefan Antoni Podworski OFM (1854-1913) – a pastor). The author focused on Father Podworski’s administrative and pastoral activities in the Observants monastery in Alwernia. The first part of the article presents Father Podworski as a guardian who, apart from his pastoral work, successfully conducted great renovations in Alwernia monastery and church, both inside and outside. The second part shows Father Stefan Podworski as a fierce promoter of the devotion to Merciful Jesus in the Miraculous Painting and a fervent priest for pilgrims from the Upper-Silesia.

    Szkic stanowi próbę przedstawienia ewolucji obrazu Boga w poezji Zbigniewa Jankowskiego. W toku metamorfoz wizerunku Stwórcy daje się wyodrębnić trzy etapy: fazę Boga o kamiennym wnętrzu (prezentowaną w utworach z lat 1959–1966), fazę Boga wszelkich możliwości, wzlotów i upadków (prezentowaną w utworach z lat 1970–2000) oraz fazę Boga wiekuistego (prezentowaną w utworach z lat 2001–2014). W pierwszej części rozważań Bóg o kamiennym wnętrzu przedstawione zostały odczytania utworów pochodzących z czterech pierwszych tomów poetyckich, w których Bóg jawi się podmiotowi lirycznemu jako słaby, bezwzględny demiurg, twórca ludzkiego cierpienia. Kolejny fragment pracy Bóg wszelkich możliwości, wzlotów i upadków zawiera interpretacje wybranych wierszy z lat 1970–2000, w których wizerunek Boga ulega metamorfozie – podmiot liryczny postrzega Stwórcę jako miłosiernego ojca i wszechobecne uosobienie miłości. Natomiast ostatnia część opracowania Bóg wiekuisty, przywołując utwory z lat 2001–2014, pokazuje, że Najwyższy stał się synonimem wieczności, z którą scalenia pragnie podmiot liryczny. Całość wywodu została opatrzona dotyczącymi wiary i Boga wyznaniami Z. Jankowskiego znajdującymi się w jego autobiograficznych tekstach, które wzbogacają eksplikację o kontekst biograficzny. Paralela rozwoju obrazu Boga zarówno w poezji jak i prozie Jankowskiego pozwala wysnuć wniosek o integralności podmiotu lirycznego i narratora.
    This essay constitutes an attempt to show the evolution of the image of God in Zbigniew Jankowski’s poetry. One can identify three stages in the metamorphosis of the Creator’s image: the rock-solid God phase (presented in poems in the 1959–1966 period), the almighty God of ups and downs phase (presented in poems in the 1970–2000 period) and the eternal God phase (presented in poems in the 2001–2014 period). The initial section, The Rock-solid God, concentrates on poems from the first four poetry volumes, in which the God presents Himself to the lyrical I as a weak, ruthless demiurge, the creator of human suffering. The next part, The Almighty God of ups and downs, contains interpretations of selected poems created in the 1970–2000 period. In those poems the image of God has undergone a metamorphosis – the lyrical I perceives the Creator as a merciful father and an omnipresent personification of love. The last part, The Eternal God, based on the poems created in the 2001–2014 period, shows that the Sovereign has become synonymous with the eternity, which the lyrical I craves to be united with. The whole study has been complemented with the comments on faith and God made by the author himself in his autobiographical texts, which adds the biographical context to the explication. The parallel of the evolution of God’s image in both Jankowski’s poetry and prose may lead one to a conclusion that the lyrical I and the narrator are integrated.

    The Gospel of John says: “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is him-self God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known” (J 1, 18). In the scene where Philip asks Jesus: “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us”. Jesus answers: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (J 14, 8–9). The subject of this article Merciful face of God in the sign of the picture “Jesus, I trust in you” refers to those words “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father”. Looking at the image of the merciful Christ we have unusual experience. Faustina says that it represents the Incarnated Word of God, which took a human body with its limitations. The picture which was painted according to Jesus’ directions has its “limitations”. But still it is the icon of God who is rich in mercy

    The article deals with the subject presented in the title “Mary as the Mother of Mercy in the aspect of her ipsissima Verba et facta and theological sources from the first millennium”. Authentic words and deeds of Mary, which demonstrate a merciful aspect of her motherhood, are present in a particular way in the three New Testament texts: description of Mary’s calling (Lk 1, 26–38); her song “Magnificat” (Lk 1, 46–55) and the Testament from the Cross (J 19, 25–27). Theological sources include mostly liturgical texts such as Sub Tuum praesidium and Salve Regina. Their resonance can be found in the writings of ancient and medieval theologians: Romanos the Melodist, saint Odo – an abbot from Cluny and saint Fulbert, a bishop of Chartres.

    A man who says his prayers has to firstly well judge himself, his situation, his possibilities and his impossibilities. Only with such knowledge he can take “a spiritual battle” which is the prayer. Each form of conversation with the God introduces a friendly intimacy with Him. People of faith, talking to Creator experience Him, they touch Him up to a merciful unity. A prayer introduces and rises a human being, it means his mind and his heart to the God. Saint Teresa from Lisieux, through her life and her works is showing a way of development of prayer and its meaning for a man indicating at the same time sources from which we can derive during our meeting with the God. These sources are: Word of God, Church tradition and Carmel’s tradition. Saint Teresa from the child of Jesus in this way is modern that she nor in love nor in everyday activities didn’t separate the Earth from the Heaven. She could find a balance, a fulfillment of her life. Teresa is not only a big Saint but also “a model” of dealing for people of our age and her way of living can be sure for everyone because the final aim is the God and our enjoyment having Him in our spirit.

    Divine Mercy is for man the reality which is both mysterious and hopeful. Out of the richness of the Bible the author points out only selected data: he analyzes biblical vocabulary, which turns out to be the invitation to the participation in the mystery of the Divine Mercy, he focuses on the sense of the mercy as meeting spiritual and temporal needs. He points out to God who makes man an active protagonist of the Divine Mercy mystery. This mercy is presented as a gold thread, as the heart of the whole God’s activity, of the whole creation and salvation, giving life, coming with rescue and giving fullness of life.
