In order to describe in detail the differences between the discourse of a textbook and the discourse of children I used categories - applied in the area of cognitive considerations - concerning the language image of the world and the text image of the world, as well as selected sub-categories: point of view and perspective, type of rationality, method of categorizing, stereotypical and axiological overview of the reality. I assumed that the choice of categories and subcategories will not only allow to investigate the imposed meanings of the textbook discourse, but – above all – will make it possible to notice the very process of formation, the emergence of the image of the world from the perspective of children. The adopted analysis model launches reflection on the necessary changes, exposes the oppressiveness of the language of the textbook and encourages exploring the conditions to initiate the language of children.

Opis:
On the basis of diaries and memoires of children of the Holocaust (Rywka Lipszyc, Renia Knoll, Helga Weissova, Dawid Sierakowiak, Dawid Rubinowicz, Maryla, and Rutka Laskier), Justyna Szewczyk outlines the image of God that emerges in the minds of the protagonists. Using the methodology of the linguistic image of the world, she analyzes this image based on a number of categories: God as seen in tradition and in everyday life; God as seen through feelings, through human identity, fate, suffering, and fatherhood. Of great importance in extrapolating the image of God found in diaries and memoirs is personalization. Personalization manifests itself, for example, in replacing God’s central position, during religious holidays and festivals, with human problems; in transferring God’s traditional competencies to the worst enemies; and in describing God in terms which are familiar to children (spatial ones and those related to the senses). In the analyzed texts, God also acquires a historical coloring: as the creator of tradition and the performer of great miracles in the past, but also as an entity whose presence is no longer experienced today. Some personal accounts testify to a psychological manner of perceiving God, as when the protagonist transfers to God tasks not fulfilled by his or her earthly father.

The paper is an attempt at a cognitive analysis and description of biblical images of the human being, deeply rooted in the religious system of values, such as the covenant with God, redemption or sanctity, found in various morphemes, lexemes and other expressions of the biblical Hebrew language. The analysis of the Hebrew lexemes used to define the man and the woman, helpful in the reconstruction of the informal ways of thinking of the human being, observed in the Semitic culture, is expected to present a biblical picture of the human being as a living creature (neºpeš), revealing itself in BäSär (a physical component) as well as rûªH (a spiritual component), a creature functioning among other creatures, belonging to their world, but also occupying a particular place in it.

This text is an attempt at analysing the linguistic image of a J ew on the basis of Hôrkij śmich by a little-known Ukrainian poet Leon Węgliński. According to researchers, every language has a specific interpretation of reality which is expressed in a unique view and perception of the world. This article, through a thorough analysis of the vocabulary, grammar structures and descriptions, shows the images of a J ew in the nineteenth century: his identity, character traits and daily functioning. The material gathered for the study presents a definitely negative image of a J ew.

Opis:
In my article I discuss the characteristics of linguistic film discourse. I present the artistic significance and semantic meaning of the verbal dimension of a cinematographic work. While discussing the language in film I usually refer to the main tenets of mediolinguistics and I focus mostly on specific antinomies, tensions, and dialectic contradictions, which characterise the verbum sphere of the cinema. The antinomies relate to various aspects of language: systemic, textual, cognitive and cultural.
W artykule omawiam cechy językowego dyskursu filmowego. Pokazuję artystyczną wagę i semantyczne znaczenie warstwy werbalnej w dziele kinematograficznym. Omawiając specyfikę języka w filmie, wykorzystuję głównie założenia mediolingwistyki i koncentruję się przede wszystkim na specyficznych antynomiach, napięciach, dialektycznych sprzecznościach, które charakteryzują sferę verbum w kinie. Antynomie owe dotyczą różnych aspektów języka, zarówno tych systemowych, jak i tekstowych oraz kognitywno-kulturowych.

In the article, the author discusses the relationship that refers to people and illness that is recorded in various language data. Based on folk material, the author recalls, above all, folk magic formulas, called “orders”. The magical healing ritual is perceived as a whole, in which the word accompanies certain activities taking place at a given time and place, using specific attributes. In a very specific existential situation, which is illness, the most basic mechanisms of thinking about the reality are revealed. Hence, the healing ritual reveals perceptions and judgements referring to illness, based on one’s own body experiences. These judgements can be observed through specific materialization obtained through the language/text manifested in a specific executive situation. The analysis of linguistic/text data allows one to discover the significance of performed actions in the process of magical healing, as these actions complement the word. They are also strongly associated with beliefs about illness in general and they constitute a characteristic testimony of human struggle with illness
W artykule omawiam utrwaloną w różnorodnych danych językowych relację, która dotyczy człowieka i choroby. Bazuję na materiale folklorowym, przywołuję przede wszystkim ludowe formuły magiczne, zwane zamówieniami. Magiczny rytuał leczniczy postrzegam jako całość, w której słowo współtowarzyszy określonym czynnościom, odbywającym się w wyznaczonym czasie, w wyznaczonym miejscu, przy zastosowaniu określonych atrybutów. W bardzo specyficznej sytuacji egzystencjalnej, jaką jest choroba, ujawniają się najbardziej elementarne mechanizmy myślenia o rzeczywistości, stąd też rytuał leczniczy ukazuje oparte na własnym doświadczaniu ciała wyobrażenia i sądy dotyczące choroby. Sądy te można obserwować dzięki swoistej materializacji, jaką uzyskują za pośrednictwem języka/tekstu objawiającego się w konkretnej sytuacji wykonawczej. Analiza danych językowych/tekstowych pozwala na odkrycie właściwego sensu czynności wykonywanych w procesie magicznego uzdrawiania; działania te stanowią dopełnienie słowa, są też silnie powiązane z wierzeniami na temat choroby w ogóle i stanowią charakterystyczne świadectwo walki człowieka z chorobą

The aim of the author is an attempt to show metaphoric ways of presenting God and the relations God-man in Polish proverbs. The analysis of the research material shows that figurative images of God are strictly related to everyday life and daily occupations of an average user of Polish, especially trade, craft, construction, medicine, finances, education. It is not odd that these branches of life, generally acknowledged and respected, have become a basis for depictions of God as the highest value. It is also vital that metaphorical images of God and His relations to man are identical with the Christian idea of the Creator. What is more, almost all the metaphors of God present in the research material have their equivalents in the quotations from the Scriptures. Thus, we observe both the influence of the Bible on common images of the nature of God and the impact of the original (dating back to the times when the Bible was coming into existence), ‘naïve’ and commmon-sense vision of the world on biblical images of the Creator.

Opis:
The work contains a preliminary proposal for fulfilling the demands placed before the tertium comparationis in linguistic confrontation, especially those related to the preparation of operational steps for building a basis for comparing concepts in different languages so that parallel (and de facto monolingual) descriptions can be replaced by sensu stricto comparisons. According to the authors, the application of the basic theoretical assumptions of linguistic confrontation will make it possible to create tools for comparing linguistic images of the world. The proposal is supported by the results of a preliminary comparative analysis of the concept of ‘faith’ in Polish and Bulgarian.  
Praca zawiera wstępną propozycję spełnienia postulatów stawianych przed tertium comparationis w konfrontacji językowej, zwłaszcza tych związanych z opracowaniem operacjonalnych kroków budowania podstawy porównania konceptów w różnych językach tak, żeby paralelne (i de facto jednojęzyczne) opisy zastąpić porównaniem sensu stricto. W opinii jej autorów zastosowanie podstawowych teoretycznych założeń konfrontacji językowej pozwoli stworzyć narzędzia do porównania językowych obrazów świata. Propozycja jest poparta wynikami wstępnej porównawczej analizy pojęcia ‘wiara’ w języku polskim i bułgarskim.

Szkic stanowi próbę wyróżnienia modelowych sytuacji wiązania poezji z magią. Za najprostszy przypadek należy uznać obecność w utworze mniej lub bardziej czytelnych odwołań do praktyk magicznych. W bardziej skomplikowanych przypadkach tym, co pozwala na zestawienie tak różnych sfer aktywności człowieka, jest szczególna ranga słowa, jaką ma ono i w kulturze magicznej, i w twórczości poetyckiej, wiara w siłę sprawczą słowa, w jego zdolność powodowania zmian w otaczającym świecie. Konsekwencją takiego myślenia o poezji jest przypisywanie jej twórcom, niczym czarodziejom czy czarnoksiężnikom, zdolności i intencji, jakich nie mają przeciętni ludzie. Obiektem poetyckich „działań magicznych” może być: słowo, świat przedstawiony w utworze, odbiorca. Elementy te są ściśle ze sobą związane, dlatego też się zdarza, że na wszystkie jednocześnie lub na dwa z nich nakierowane są działania poety. Wymienione sytuacje zostały dokładniej omówione i zilustrowane przykładami z literatury polskiej. Zwrócono również uwagę na rolę poezji w demaskowaniu praktyk quasi-magicznych, stosowanych przez polityków, propagandzistów, twórców reklam i innych, którzy dążyli i dążą do narzucenia odbiorcom pożądanych przez siebie wizji świata.
An attempt is made to identify model situations of connecting poetry to magic. The most straightforward case is when a text features more or less conspicuous references to magical practice. In more complex cases, what makes it possible to juxtapose these very different spheres of human activity is a peculiar status of a word in both magic and poetry: it is believed to be causing events and effecting changes in the world. As a consequence, certain abilities and intentions are attributed to poets, as if to wizards or sorcerers, which would never be attributed to ordinary people. The object of a people’s ‘magic activity’ may be a word, the world presented in a given poem, or the recipient. These elements are strictly connected with one another, therefore it is sometimes the case that the poet’s actions are directed to two or to all of them. The article offers a more detailed discussion of the situations mentioned above. They are also illustrated with examples from Polish poetry. Furthermore, attention is paid to the role of poetry in de-camouflaging quasi-magical practices employed by politicians, propagandists, advertisers and others who attempt to impose a particular worldview on the recipients.
