Through an analysis of several short stories by Stefan Grabiński, the article aims to show that his narrative is based on the principle of a metaphorical mirror, which exposes the dual nature of the world: matter and spirit, good and evil, world and afterworld, inner reality and outer reality. The reflected image of the world does not coincide with the real one. That image in the mirror is beyond human reason and appears as a terrifying truth and as the profound chaos of the soul. Grabiński develops the doubling of reality, which is present – with different meanings – not only in philosophical, religious, psychological and psychoanalytic thought, but also in the field of the paranormal and of parapsychology, through the theme of the double.

The essay is an attempt to analyze the mechanisms of adaptation based on the example of Enemy (2013) by Denis Villeneuve. It also confronts the director’s formal choices with an individual viewer’s expectations. The text presents similarities and differences between the novel (The Double, José Saramago) and the movie. The author also points out film-like features of the book. Aspects of the original story were not developed by the filmmakers, and this changed the meaning of the film.

The article is devoted to the historical, literary and intertextual connections between Dostoyevsky’s novella The Double and Nikolai Akhsharumov’s novella of the same title. The research indicates that the two writers’ texts are linked by the dominant of psychological analysis, the theme of duality and the topos of St. Petersburg. However, the protagonists themselves, their doubles and the relationships between them are diametrically opposite in the works of Dostoevsky and Akhsharumov. This demonstrates the complex laws of literary evolution, which encompass not only the influence of a predecessor, but also taking issue with him.
В статье рассматриваются историко-литературные и интертекстуальные связи повести Ф. М. Достоевского Двойник и повести Н. Д. Ахшарумова с аналогичным названием. Как показывает проведенные исследование, писателей сближает доминанта психологического анализа, тема двойничества и топос Петербурга. Однако как сами герои, так и их двойники, отношения между ними у Достоевского и Ахшарумова являются прямо противоположными. Это свидетельствует о сложных законах литературной эволюции, включающей в себя не только момент влияния предшественника, но и полемику с ним.

Od czasu, kiedy autyzm został opisany jako zaburzenie, stan ten oceniany jest najczęściej z zewnątrz, według przejawów zachowań, a nie od wewnątrz, w zależności od tego, jak osoba autystyczna doświadcza świata. W ostatnich latach pojawia się coraz więcej głosów i narracji autystycznych badaczy, stanowiących krytyczne wyzwania dla dominującego dyskursu, jak i wielu przekonań i praktyk skupiających się wokół autyzmu. Głosy te wciąż są systematycznie marginalizowane, uciszane, błędnie interpretowane lub odrzucane, co rodzi coraz większy sprzeciw osób autystycznych, chcących mówić we własnym imieniu, sprzeciwiających się traktowaniu ich jak „zepsutej, neurotypowej wersji człowieka”. Zamiast tego osoby z ASD dążą do uznania ich za „właściwą wersję nieneurotypową”. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie zwrotu, jaki w ciągu ostatnich lat dokonuje się w postrzeganiu autyzmu, zwłaszcza za sprawą autystycznych grup i autystycznych badaczy prezentujących teorie, które nie ignorują „autystycznego głosu” i nie wpisują się w podejście, w którym dominują społeczne standardy funkcjonowania neurokognitywnego.
Since autism was first defined as a disorder, this condition has been predominantly assessed from an external point of view, according to behavioural manifestations, rather than internal, i.e. according to how the autistic person experiences the world. In recent years, increasingly more autistic researchers’ voices and narratives have emerged that pose critical challenges to the dominant discourse and many of the autism-related beliefs and practices. These voices are still systematically marginalised, silenced, misinterpreted or rejected, which raises increasing objections from autistic people as they want to speak on their own behalf, opposed to being treated as a “broken, neurotypical version of human”. Instead, people on the Autism Spectrumseek to be considered a “correct non-neurotypical version”. The aim of this article is to show the shift in the perception of autism which has occurred in recent years owing to autistic groups and autistic researchers who present a theory that does not ignore the “autistic voice” and does not fit in with the approach dominated by the social standards of neurocognitive functioning.

The article explores “На беразе Дубiч Царкоўных” and “Здарылася быць” by Jan Czykwin. and discusses main tendencies in his poetic and prosaic works of the 2010s. The author explains major modifications in the poet’s worldview and artistic system, highlights new approaches and visual possibilities in text organization. The conclusion is drawn that the books demonstrate a qualitatively new stage in the poet’s creative evolution.

Autorka wyjaśnia modyfikacje w światopoglądzie i systemie artystycznym poety, podkreśla nowe podejścia do organizacji tekstu, formułuje wniosek, że uwzględniane w analizie utwory stanowią jakościowo nowy etap w twórczej ewolucji Jana Czykwina.

In this article I try to interpret the music aspect of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s famous movie The Double Life of Véronique (1991, music: Z. Preisner). The director, whose works are full of allusions to music and generally to art, always paid special attention to the sound of his movies. The Double Life of Véronique, though not the last “fruit” of the cooperation between Kieslowski and Zbigniew Preisner, is the best illustration of this fact. The musical elements permeate almost all aspects of this work, from the plot to the structure of the movie (the use of the leitmotif technique), and correspond closely to the action. The key importance of music is illustrated by a description of what I consider to be the film’s three most significant scenes: two from the “Polish” and one from the “French” part of this work.

В статье рассматривается поэтика малоизвестного стихотворения Н. Гумилева «Неслышный, мелкий падал дождь…» (1907) в аспекте становления мотива двойничества как ключевого параметра гумилевского художественного мира. В основе данного поэтиче- ского текста находится нарративная репрезентация встречи лирического героя с персонажем- убийцей, предстающим в качестве двойнической ипостаси субъектного «я». Анализ стихот- ворения показывает, что ценностное узнавание страдальческого бытия демонического пришельца оказывается актом постижения онтологической природы зла, которое в созна- нии лирического героя обретает статус равновесной добру бытийной константы. Формули- руется вывод о том, что познание инфернальной стороны универсума посредством актуали- зации мотива двойничества в гумилевском творчестве мыслится необходимым процессом обретения духовного опыта, синтезирующего «светлые» (положительные) и «темные» (от- рицательные) аспекта бытия. Соответственно, представленное в данном тексте соприкос- новение лирического «я» с преступно-демоническим двойником демонстрирует принципы формирования окказиональной мифопоэтики Н. Гумилева, основанной на конвергенции онтологических антиномий.
The article discusses the poetics of a little-known poem, “Neslyshnyi, melkyi padal dozhd’…” [‘It was quiet and drizzling…’] (1907), in terms of the formation of the motif of the double as a key parameter of Nikolai Gumilyov’s artistic world. This text was not published during the poet’s lifetime and is known from an autograph in a letter to Valery Bryusov. Gumilyov’s refraining from publishing this poem could have had various causes, but the author of the paper attributes it to two factors. The first one is that it would have been difficult to embed this text in the conceptual logic of the cross-cutting “plots” of either Romanticheskiye tsvety [‘Romantic Flowers’] (1908) or Zhemchuga [‘Pearls’] (1910), i. e. poetic books the creation of which is chronologically close to the time of writing this poem. The second is the fact that “Neslyshnyi, melkyi padal dozhd’…” explicitly affirms the demonic principle in the human “self ” as an axiological constant, explicating the adherence to the “diabolical” poetics of early Russian symbolism, which Gumilyov had been trying to creatively rethink since 1907. However, despite the author’s neglect, the poem merits close attention, since it shows fundamentally important aspects of Gumilyov’s artistic conception. This poetic text is based on a narrative representation of the meeting between the lyrical subject and the character of a killer, who appears as his double, an alter ego of “the self ”. The analysis of the poem shows that recognizing the value of the painful existence of the demonic stranger is an act of comprehending the ontological nature of evil, which in the consciousness of the lyrical “I” acquires the status of something equivalent to the good of the existential constant. In the structure of this text the motif of the double, which goes back to the poetic practice of the romanticism and of the Russian symbolism, is realised on the story-plot level by dividing the human soul into two hypostases, the “light” and the “dark” one, the meeting of which becomes for the lyrical subject an initiation into the essence of another world. The author formulates the conclusion that getting to know the infernal side of the universe, here through the actualisation of the motif of the double, was in Gumilyov’s writing conceived as a necessary process of gaining spiritual experience that would synthesise the “light” (positive) and the “dark” (negative) aspects of being. Accordingly, the lyrical “I”’s encounter with his criminal- -demonic double presented in the discussed poem reveals the principles of formation of Gumilyov’s occasional mythopoetics based on the convergence of ontological antinomies.

The phenomenon of double jeopardy

Celem opracowania jest identyfikacja zjawiska podwójnego zagrożenia na rynku usług finansowych. W szczególności podjęto tu próbę określenia tego zjawiska w dwóch jego wymiarach związanych z lojalnością konsumentów, a także postawami konsumenckimi. Przeprowadzone analizy wskazują na istnienie tego zjawiska. Konsumenci są najbardziej lojalni (niezależnie od przyjętego wskaźnika) względem tych instytucji, które najdłużej działają na polskim rynku, oraz tych, z których usługami mają największe doświadczenie. Ponadto darzą dużo większym zaufaniem instytucje finansowe działające zdecydowanie najdłużej na polskim rynku, czyli banki i towarzystwa ubezpieczeniowe. Poziom zaufania do pozostałych instytucji na polskim rynku jest zdecydowanie niższy.
The aim of the study is to identify the phenomenon of double jeopardy on the financial services market. In particular, the article attempts to define the phenomenon in its two dimensions related to the loyalty of consumers, and consumer attitudes. The study indicates the existence of this phenomenon. Consumers are most loyal (regardless of the two adopted indicator) in relation to those institutions that have the longest operating on the Polish market, and those services which have the greatest experience. In addition, consumers have much greater confidence in financial institutions by far the longest on the Polish market, namely banks and insurance companies. The level of trust in the other on the Polish market institutions is much lower.

An unflagging interest in describing future events has continuously motivated investigations, particularly in the field of logic.Aristotle, universally acknowledged as the father of logic, proposed a set of certain bases from which we could depart with our investigations. However, these are tools in which, despite their great value, one can perceive certain shortcomings.Over the centuries many attempts have been made to discover a means of describing any sentence, expressed in any grammatical form. One of these attempts is bilattice theory, through which it has been attempted to describe future events. This theory makes use of tools such as vagueness and different forms of semantics including subvaluationism and supervaluationism.In lattice theory itself, the double lattice known as the FOUR lattice (four-valued bilattice logic) is directly employed.After analyzing the structure of a given theory one may easily make use of it in practice, providing examples of its usage.

After the outbreak of the Thirteen Years‘ War there was created a certain kind of the Pomesan chancellery landscape. Its creation resulted from the tendency of various chancelleries to cooperate. The central point of the landscape was Marienburg’s [Polish: Malbork] chancellery of the Grand Master under the supervision of the clergyman and chancellor Andreas Santberg. He organized the manner of administering the written documentation with the help of public notaries, who had prepared the earliest files. The personal relations between the city chancelleries of the Monastic State and the Teutonic chancelleries may be noticed. The situation of the work of the chancellery during the Thirteen Years’ War was determined by extraordinary conditions. Preparing the registers of documents in the chancellery of the Grand Master was stopped. Instead of this, the number of drafts of documents increased. In the cities and towns which were most affected by the war events, it was hard to maintain the continuity in the production of documents. After the Grand Master moved to Königsberg, the preparations to set up a new registry office of the territorial ruler commenced. The chancellery’s personnel organized the administration of the documentations according to old models of the Sambian chancellery. One of the characteristic features of the German writing used during the war was the introduction of double sounds „nn” in the initial syllable and sometimes in the final syllable. After the conclusion of the Peace Treaty the process of the gradual secularization of the Grand Master’s chancellery could be observed. In the times of Friedrich von Sachsen educated lawyers were responsible for chancelleries following the models taken over from the Meissen motherland of the Grand Master. Under the rule of the margrave Albrecht people from Francophonie became trustworthy cooperators. They led to the gradual francisation of the language of the chancellery. Writing registers again became part of chancellery production. A new administration was created. Similar phenomena took place in case of writing production of the city chancelleries and other lay and church chancelleries at the end of the Teutonic period, which requires further research.

Le romancier francophone grec, V. Alexakis se présente dans son œuvre sous une double identité : du grec et du français, du narrateur et de l’écrivain, de l’observateur et du héros. Nous essaierons donc de mettre en évidence son jeu de similitude ou de similarité par le processus de ce « cache-cache » entre l’écriture et la mémoire. Nous discernerons qu’il arrive à unir le niveau personnel (le fait de se rapporter sans cesse à au personnel) à la mémoire collective (il parvient à présenter social tout élément personnel), traits qui s’opposent à la vanité « traditionnelle » du texte autobiographique, lui apportant de la sorte une certaine nouvelle fraîcheur originale.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the displacement phenomena the direct and indirect objects in the English Double Object Construction (DOC) can undergo. The focus is on the movement out of the DOC to the sentence initial position. The analysis concerns not only globally acceptable Goal-Theme object sequence but also the Theme-Goal DOC, which grammaticality is restricted only to a few British English dialects. The processes affecting the objects in the Prepositional Construction are also mentioned. The initial part of the paper is devoted to the underlying syntactic representations of the DOC in English. Following, e.g. Citko (2011), Cuervo (2003), Pylkkännen (2002, 2008), a representation with the Low Applicative Phrase has been adopted. The exact case valuation mechanism for relevant objects (as proposed by Bondaruk and Bartczak-Meszyńska (2014)) has been established. The remaining part of this paper contains a detailed discussion of the derivation of particular object initial sentences with the DOC in the active and in the passive and the interplay between passivisation and topicalisation, as the triggers of the object fronting.

Opis:
The present article considers the symbolical values of the circle in the novel Cartea șoaptelor (The Book of Whispers) by Varujan Vosganian from a hermeneutical point of view (Gilbert Durand, Jean Chevalier and Alain Gheerbrant). Moreover, from a spatial perspective, the circles of death are regarded as a double spiral, negative and positive, and the passage of characters such as Yusuf through this double spiral is the equivalent of a symbolical death and a resurrection in a new form. Moreover, taking over Paul Ricoeur’s idea (Memory, History, Forgetting) of a text being considered a sepulchre for the absents of history (Michel de Certeau), the text of The Book of Whispers is regarded and analysed as a text of the voice of those who have disappeared and died without their story being known. The roundness of character and ultimately that of transcending sufferance that the novel incorporates is rendered exactly by these circle-stories and by their polyphony.

W treści artykułu autorzy przedstawiają obecny kształt i mankamenty przepisów związanych z pociągnięciem do odpowiedzialności karnej skarbowej sprawców oszustw podatkowych. Wskazują, że istniejące rozwiązania są często niepraktyczne, nie przystają do otoczenia społeczno-gospodarczego. Dla zobrazowania tego zagadnienia koncentrują swe rozważania wokół nowo przyznanych kompetencji rzeczowych finansowych organów postępowania przygotowawczego oraz wymiarowej decyzji podatkowej, postrzeganej jako prejudykat w sprawach karnoskarbowych. Konkluzją artykułu jest propozycja, aby dokonać weryfikacji zasadności dalszego utrzymywania dotychczasowego kształtu rozwiązań prawnokarnych oraz rozważyć możliwość przesunięcia odpowiedzialności tzw. właściwych oszustw podatkowych na płaszczyznę odpowiedzialności administracyjnej. Odpowiedzialności karnej skarbowej w tym świetle podlegaliby wyłącznie sprawcy najpoważniejszych przestępstw, dokonywanych zasadniczo na przedpolu oszustw podatkowych. W tym bowiem przypadku kryminalne zabarwienie czynu posiada bardzo wyraźną przewagę nad jego zabarwieniem fiskalnym, w ramach szeroko rozumianej społecznej szkodliwości tego rodzaju przestępstw. To niewątpliwie winno determinować odpowiedzialność karną.
In the content of the article, the authors present the current shape and shortcomings of the provisions related to bringing tax perpetrators to tax liability. They indicate that existing solutions are often impractical and do not fit into the socio-economic environment. To illustrate this issue, they focus their considerations on newly granted competences of the financial authorities of preparatory proceedings and dimensional tax decision, seen as a prejudication ruling in fiscal penal cases. The conclusion of the article is a proposal to verify the legitimacy of further maintaining the current shape of criminal law solutions and to consider the possibility of shifting the responsibility of the so-called “proper tax frauds” on the plane of administrative liability. In this view, fiscal criminal liability would only apply to the perpetrators of the most serious crimes committed generally in the foreground of tax fraud. In this case, the criminal tone of the act, has a very clear advantage over its fiscal tone, as part of the broadly understood social harmfulness of such crimes. This undoubtedly should determine criminal liability.
