Expressive qualifiers and the identification of emotionally marked vocabulary in the lexicographic sources The article compiles and compares the signaling or qualifying expressive vocabulary methods in 13 early and contemporary lexicographic sources. The author refers to the findings of researchers to date, including on the history and scope of use of qualifiers, in particular expressive qualifiers (e.g. piesz., lekcew., pog., wulg., żart.), and other ways of signaling by lexicographers of expressive marking of words, e.g. in the form of terms used in the definition (e.g. „expressively about...”, „with pity about...”, „offensive word”). Based on the collected material, she formulates conclusions about the possibilities and difficulties in the excerption of expressively characterized vocabulary from the lexicographic sources in a diachronic approach. It justifies that in studies of expressive lexis, it is necessary to observe colloquialisms as well as diminutive and bold words. He also draws attention to the possibility of using electronic dictionaries in quantitative and qualitative research on expressively characterized words.

The article presents a manuscript collection of dialect lexicon from the 2nd half of the 19th century compiled by Artur Doliński. The glossary records the vocabulary characteristic of the folk dialect of the Vilnius area. The author has established that in terms of methodology, Doliński’s work differs from other studies of this type (the entries are not arranged alphabetically, they lack qualifiers or explicataions of how to use a particular word). However, this does not diminish the value of the work under discussion, since the glossary records unknown lexemes from historical Lithuania, and attests to phonetic and grammatical features inherent in the borderland variety of the language. This makes Doliński’s work an important source for the study of Polish dialects in the 19th century Northeastern Borderlands.

The paper presents selected issues in the area of Polish biographical lexicography from the genological perspective. The author proposes to distinguish a new type – obituary and commemorative lexicography. She states that no monographic work on biographical lexicography has been published within the Polish scholarly society. The existing publications are only in the form of thematic/problem and review articles. The second part of the paper contains a list of 379 Polish dictionaries; the bibliography covers the years 1832–2021. The data presented are considered statistically important. The bibliographic list includes various types/forms of dictionaries – strictly biographical dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, dictionary-encyclopedias, encyclopedic guides, reference books (e.g. Who is who?), directories of people (e.g. The Book of Siberians), personal loss books, cemetery books, lists of people, alphabetical lists of people, lists of surnames, nicknames, registers of the dead, deported and others, indexes of people (e.g. of repressed people) and others, inventories (e.g. names of labor camps), etc. Formally, publications of this type meet the requirements of studies in the field of lexicography because: 1/ they constitute a linearly ordered set (by lexicographic order), and 2/ they are specific databases storing specific information.

Artykuł omawia problemy dotyczące opisu naw własnych w Wielkim słowniku języka polskiego PAN, który opracowywany jest od 2007 roku i publikowany w Internecie pod adresem http://wsjp.pl . Pierwsza część tekstu jest poświęcona kwestii celowości notowania nazw własnych w słownikach ogólnych języka naturalnego (przypomniano negatywne opinie na ten temat), następnie przedstawiono projekt opisu nazw własnych w wymienionym słowniku (przede wszystkim nazwy geograficzne z ich derywatami), pochodzący z początkowego etapu prac nad nim i porównano ze stanem realizacji aktualnym w roku 2020. W części końcowej przedstawiono dalsze perspektywy opisu nazw własnych w Wielkim słowniku języka polskiego PAN.  
The article discusses problems related to proper name entries in Polish Academy of Sciences Great Dictionary of Polish. The dictionary has been under construction since 2007 and is available at the following URL: http://wsjp.pl. The first part of the text is devoted to the issue of reasonableness of including proper names in general dictionaries. Critical opinions on the issue raised in the past are recalled and discussed. What follows is a presentation on how  the description of proper names, especially geographical names and their derivatives, was envisaged in the early stages of works on the aforementioned dictionary. This vision is then compared with the actual state of being in the current version of the dictionary from 2020. In the final part, further prospects of describing proper names in Polish Academy of Sciences Great Dictionary of Polish are presented.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie zarówno z perspektywy teoretycznej, jak i praktycznej celu i znaczenia słowników regionalnych na przykładzie biograficznego słownika regionalnego Jaworznicki Słownik Biograficzny, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do społeczności lokalnej miasta Jaworzna oraz procesu powstawania projektu elektronicznej wersji Jaworznickiego Słownika Biograficznego, opracowywanego w Dziale Informacji Regionalnej Miejskiej Biblioteki Publicznej w Jaworznie. Upowszechnienie się Internetu przyczyniło się niezaprzeczalnie do rozpowszechnienia wiedzy o regionie wśród potencjalnych i rzeczywistych czytelników, zwłaszcza z młodego pokolenia, urodzonych i wychowanych w dobie Internetu. Udostępnienie wersji online Jaworznickiego Słownika Biograficznego – obok planowanej publikacji drukowanej – stanowiłoby promocję czytelnictwa, jak również najszybszy sposób dostarczania informacji na temat znanych i wpisanych w historię i w kulturę miasta Jaworzna wybitnych ludzi – już nieżyjących, jak i żyjących.
The aim of this article is to present, from both theoretical and practical perspective, the meaning and significance of regional dictionaries on the example of the Jaworzno Biographical Dictionary, developed in the Regional Information Department of the Municipal Public Library in Jaworzno. The spread of the Internet has contributed to the dissemination of knowledge about the region among potential and actual readers, especially the young generation, born and brought up in the age of the Internet. The online version of the Jaworzno Biographical Dictionary – in addition to the planned printed publication – is not only a readership promotion, but also the fastest way to provide information on the well-known and inscribed in the history and culture of the city of Jaworzno outstanding people – dead and alive.

Przedmiotem opisu w artykule są dwa regionalne słowniczki z obszaru Małopolski środkowo-północnej autorstwa ks. Władysława Siarkowskiego. Rejestrują one dziewiętnastowieczną leksykę z regionu kieleckiego (okolice Kielc, Pińczowa).Charakteryzując zbiorki wyrazów, uwzględniam następujące kwestie: a) czas powstania słowniczków; b) objętość; c) zasięg terytorialny; d) makrostrukturę słowniczków, e) mikrostrukturę słowniczków. Zawarty w nich materiał leksykalny stanowi przede wszystkim źródło do poznania najstarszego stanu gwar małopolskich (ściślej: Małopolski środkowo-północnej), źródło do badań gwar polskich w ogóle, ale daje także wgląd w pracę warsztatową niewykwalifikowanych leksykografów, pasjonatów, hobbystów, miłośników „rzeczy ludowych”, których działania przyczyniły się do zachowania i ocalenia od zapomnienia mowy mieszkańców wsi w dobie niewoli narodowej.
The article describes two regional dictionaries from the north-central region of Małopolska (Lesser Poland) by Father Władysław Siarkowski. They contain records of the nineteenth century lexicon from the Kielce Region (environs of Kielce, Pińczów). The lexical materials were published in 1878 and 1891.When characterising sets of words, the following issues are taken into consideration: a) the time when the glossaries were compiled; b) the volume; c) the territorial scope; d) the macro-structure of the dictionaries; e) the micro-structure of the dictionaries. The lexical material included in the dictionaries is primarily a source of knowledge about the oldest status of the Małopolska dialects (more precisely, the north-central region of Małopolska) and a source of research into the Polish dialects in general. The author also provides insight into the technicalities of unqualified lexicographers, enthusiasts, hobbyists, lovers of folk artefacts, whose actions helped to preserve and save from oblivion the speech of rural residents in a time when Poland did not enjoy independence as a state

This article is dedicated to characteristics of the contents, micro- and macro-structure of the first, independent spelling dictionary of the Polish language, prepared by Antoni Jerzykowski and published in Poznań in 1885. Apart from meta-lexicographic matters, also the views of the dictionary’s author were presented on selected points of dispute in the Polish spelling of the late 19th century and the methods of their realisation in dictionary entries. The analysis demonstrated that in terms of structure and informative contents, the dictionary does not differ significantly from numerous spelling dictionaries published in the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century, the characteristic feature of which was enriching pure spelling information with the content from other areas of grammar and language correctness.

The aim of this article is to describe 280 examples of recurrences of Polish entries in the Latin-Polish dictionaries by Bartholomeus de Bydgostia of 1532 and 1544. The first researchers considered these recurrences to be mere mistakes resulting from a long time taken to prepare the dictionaries or from other causes. However, the scale of this phenomenon (4.3%) and its peculiar regularity make one think of another way of interpreting it – as Bartholomeus’ lexicographic method.
Niniejszy artykuł opisuje 280 przykładów powtórzeń haseł polskich w łacińsko-polskich słownikach Bartłomieja z Bydgoszczy (1532 i 1544). Pierwsze badaczki traktowały je wyłącznie jako pomyłki spowodowane między innymi długim czasem przygotowywania słowników. Jednakże skala tego zjawiska (4,3%) i jego regularność oznaczają, że można je interpretować inaczej – jako jedną z metod leksykograficznych Bartłomieja z Bydgoszczy.

Le but de cet article est de montrer et d’analyser un répertoire des termes relatifs aux habitudes de boire du vin des Français à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. L’analyse des données lexicales de deux dictionnaires de différentes conceptions lexicographiques, à savoir Dictionnaire comique, satyrique, critique, burlesque, libre et proverbial de Philibert-Joseph Le Roux de 1786 et Dictionnaire de l’Académie Française de 1798 (5e éd.), montre à quel point boire du vin était une distraction préférée, indépendamment du statut social. On trouve dans ces dictionnaires une surprenante richesse des termes décrivant la culture de la boisson, les types de vin, les rituels qui l’accompagnent, qui sont, dans la plupart des cas, des activités peu subtiles. Cette image précieuse est complétée par les expressions à l’aide desquelles on peut préciser le degré d’ivresse, les effets causés par le vin ; on y trouve aussi une panoplie de comportements après la consommation, une kyrielle de noms pour des vins de catégorie plutôt inférieure.
The purpose of this article is to present and analyse the terms found in two dictionaries published in the twilight of the 18th century, namely Dictionnaire comique by Philibert-Joseph Le Roux (1786) and Dictionnaire de l’Académie Française (1798), both of which relate to the way that wine is drunk by the French. The plenitude of terms describing the drinking culture, the words for good and bad wine, the effects following wine consumption, the stages of alcohol intoxication, the names for persons consuming alcohol, and the rituals and drinking-related activities is accompanied by the socio-economic panorama. The two dictionaries have different lexicographical assumptions, i.e. while the Le Roux dictionary contains language material which often contradicts the principles of bel usage, the Academy’s dictionary promotes the purity and correctness of the French language. Nonetheless, in most cases they give the same terms and expressions with regard to drinking.

The Lithuanian and Polish linguistic legacy of Antanas Juška from a twenty-first-century perspectiveThis article presents the assumptions of new research on the legacy of Antanas Juška, recorded in Lithuanian and Polish. We assume that the forgotten works of this bilingual author from Lithuania, mainly translation dictionaries, are an underestimated study material for interdisciplinary research. They are particularly important for understanding the rich conceptualisations of the world by two collective subjects, Poles and Lithuanians, co-existing in Lithuania under the Russian partition. We have formulated two research hypotheses: (1) the bilingual dictionaries authored by Antanas Juška, who was a Catholic priest, are not only a valuable source of knowledge about the state of the Polish and Lithuanian languages in the nineteenth century, but above all specific cultural texts which form part of the social discourse of their time and place, and thus carry relevant ethnolinguistic and ethnocultural information; (2) bilingual dictionaries as a genre had an impact on the crystallisation of Lithuanian national awareness and the strengthening of cultural identity of Lithuanians in the second half of the nineteenth century.Juška’s linguistic legacy will be jointly studied by Polish and Lithuanian researchers from different perspectives, applying the tools and methods available in twenty-first-century humanities.I. In the ethnolinguistic and ethnohistorical paradigm: in view of the hypothesis that bilingual dictionaries constitute a narrative about the world and its historical time, we extract linguistic data that will enable us to capture the lexical and conceptual symmetry and asymmetry between the linguistic woldview of Poles and Lithuanians in the context of the crystallisation of Lithuanian national awareness.II. In the comparative perspective: (1) we will present Juška’s lexicographic legacy against the background of the Lithuanian and Polish lexicographic tradition; we will confront the lexicographic practice and the macro- and microstructure of his dictionaries with important works of Lithuanian lexicography and contemporary dictionaries recording colloquial, dialectal and regional vocabulary of various sub-regions of Lithuania; (2) we will compare the Polish material recorded in Juška’s translation dictionaries with dictionaries of the general, dialectal and regional Polish language from Lithuania; (3) we will answer the question whether the introduction of Russian translations into the Lithuanian-Polish dictionary published by the Imperial Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg was merely a political requirement stemming from the political situation and censorship, or whether these translations complement the meanings of the Polish and Lithuanian entries.III. In the sociolinguistic and communication aspect: language contact and multilingualism, and the attendant processes of borrowing, mixing and “combining” vocabulary among users of the regional Polish language and spoken Lithuanian.Our research draws the attention of linguists to old, underestimated texts. It also indicates the cognitive value of linguistic analysis open to history, ethnology and identity studies. By studying Juška’s linguistic legacy in the context of modern scholarship, we introduce it into the sphere of collective life of Lithuanians and Poles. Juszkiewicza, są nie tylko cennym źródłem wiedzy o stanie języka polskiego i litewskiego w XIX wieku, lecz przede wszystkim swoistymi tekstami kultury, wpisującymi się w dyskurs społeczny czasu i miejsca oraz nośnikami relewantnych informacji etnolingwistycznych i etnokulturowych; 2) słowniki dwujęzyczne jako gatunek tekstu oddziaływały na krystalizowanie się narodowej świadomości litewskiej i umacnianie tożsamości kulturowej Litwinów w drugiej połowie XIX wieku.Spuścizna językowa Juszkiewicza będzie odczytana wspólnie przez badaczy polskich i litewskich na nowo z różnych perspektyw, z wykorzystaniem narzędzi i metod, jakie daje nam humanistyka XXI wieku:I. W paradygmacie etnolingwistycznym i etnohistorycznym: zgodnie z przyjętą hipotezą, że słowniki dwujęzyczne są swoistą narracją o świecie i czasie historycznym, będziemy ekscerpować z nich dane językowe, które pozwolą nam uchwycić symetrię i asymetrię leksykalno-pojęciową między językowym obrazem świata Polaków i Litwinów w sytuacji krystalizowania się litewskiej świadomości narodowej;II. W perspektywie komparatystycznej: 1) ukażemy spuściznę leksykograficzną Juszkiewicza na tle tradycji leksykograficznej litewskiej i polskiej; skonfrontujemy warsztat leksykograficzny oraz makro- i mikrostruktury słowników A. Juszkiewicza z ważnymi dziełami leksykografii przekładowej litewskiej oraz współczesnymi słownikami rejestrującymi słownictwo potoczne, gwarowe i regionalne różnych subregionów Litwy; 2) porównamy materiał polski zarejestrowany w słownikach przekładowych Juszkiewiczów ze Słownikiem języka polskiego tzw. wileńskim, Słownikiem gwar polskich J. Karłowicza, ze słownictwem współczesnej polszczyzny gwarowej na Litwie; 3) odpowiemy na pytanie, czy wprowadzenie tłumaczeń rosyjskich do wydanej przez Imperatorską Akademię Nauk w Sankt Petersburgu części słownika litewsko-polskiego, mające w sytuacji zaborów podłoże polityczne, wniosło uzupełnienia znaczeń haseł polskich i litewskich;III. W aspekcie socjolingwistycznym i komunikacyjnym: w kontekście kontaktów językowych i zachodzących w sytuacji wielojęzyczności procesów zapożyczania, mieszania i „uwspólniania” słownictwa między użytkownikami polszczyzny regionalnej i mówionego języka litewskiego.Nasze badania kierują uwagę lingwistów na teksty dawne, niedocenione, wskazując, jak ważne poznawczo efekty można uzyskać w ich analizie, gdy otwieramy językoznawstwo na historię, etnologię, naukę o tożsamości. Włączając spuściznę lingwistyczną A. Juszkiewicza w obszar współczesnej nauki, wprowadzamy ją zarazem w sferę życia zbiorowego Litwinów i Polaków. Stwarzamy tym samym płaszczyznę do lepszego zrozumienia siebie nawzajem i przewartościowania negatywnych stereotypów narodowych.

The article presents one of the types of the Polish entries in the 16th century Latin-Polish dictionaries by Bartholomew of Bydgoszcz, i.e. the Polish words and word combinations included in these lexicons more than once. One can distinguish 4 major types of the recurring Polish entries: 1) entries occurring simultaneously in the dictionary of 1532 and of 1544; 2) entries recurring in the major parts of the dictionaries and in the enclosed thematic dictionaries, 3) entries recurring on the same sheet of the dictionary (recto side and verso side), 4) entries recurring on the same page of the dictionary. The recurrences of the Polish entries have various reasons, including the dictionary structures, using a variety of sources, a long period of time over which the dictionaries were created and Bartholomew’s mistakes.
Artykuł przedstawia jeden z typów polskich haseł w XVI-wiecznych łacińsko-polskich słownikach Bartłomieja z Bydgoszczy, tzn. polskie wyrazy i połączenia wyrazowe zapisane w tych leksykonach więcej niż raz. Można wyróżnić 4 zasadnicze typy powtarzających się polskich haseł: 1) hasła występujące jednocześnie w słowniku z 1532 r. i 1544; 2) hasła powtarzające się w częściach zasadniczych słowników i dołączonych do nich słowniczkach tematycznych, 3) hasła powtarzające się na tej samej karcie słownika (recto i verso), 4) hasła powtarzające się na tej samej stronie słownika. Powtórzenia polskich haseł wynikają z różnych przyczyn, m.in. z budowy słowników, z korzystania z różnych źródeł, z długiego czasu powstawania obu słowników i pomyłek Bartłomieja.

The aim of the study is to show the possibilities of using corpus analyses for theintroduction of light verb constructions in German during foreign language lessons. The corpus analyses of three selected light verb constructions Maßnahmen ergreifen, einen Beschluss fassen and Bericht erstatten show the co-occurrence of these units and enable the creation of syntagmatic patterns and the allocation of individual light verb constructions to thematic areas. The results of the analysis confirm the thesis that syntagmatic patterns are an aid to learners of German, as they present their use in a sentence and show the partner words with their syntactic function. This method can present the context of use and the thematic area of the light verb constructions. The results of the analyses are also a guideline to placing the syntagmatic patterns in German-Polish dictionaries to help learners to use them and communicate with them correctly

The goal of the article is to seek to answer the question how to describe folk lexis on the Slavic borderlands. On the basis of the analysis of different types of Polish, Ukrainian and Belarusian dictionaries, the author draws a conclusion that differential dictionaries that contain lexis from dialect areas of different dialectal classification do not show objective linguistic reality. He suggests that the description of lexis made according to the criterion of the opposition between dialect and literary language should be replaced by the opposition between a dialect and other dialects within one national language.

W polskiej lingwistyce od kilkudziesięciu lat obserwuje się marginalność studiów poświęconych dawnej warstwie frazeologicznej. Wpływ na ograniczone badania frazeologii historycznej wywierają różne czynniki. Jednym z nich są źródła leksykograficzne. Okazuje się, że w diachronicznym opisie frazeologii zmuszeni jesteśmy korzystać z historycznych słowników ogólnych (też gwarowych) polszczyzny. Niniejsze rozważania poświęcone zostały charakterystyce rejestracji frazeologii w wybranych słownikach języka polskiego, tj. w Słowniku języka polskiego S.B. Lindego oraz w tak zwanym Słowniku wileńskim i Słowniku warszawskim.
Polish linguistic studies have shown marginal interest in the old phraseological stratum for the last few decades. Various factors contribute to the limited research into historical phraseology. Lexicographic sources seem to be one of these factors. Owing to the absence of various types of sources exclusively dedicated to old word combinations, vital for the diachronic description of phraseology, we are limited to the use of universal historical dictionaries of Polish language. The considerations of this article are dedicated to the characteristics of how phraseology has been registered in the selected Polish language dictionaries such as: The Dictionary of Polish Language by Samuel Boguslaw Linde, the so-called Vilnius Dictionary and The Warsaw Dictionary.

Opis:
An examination of the lexical material contained in Słownik terminologii lekarskiej polskiej [Polish Medical Terminology Dictionary] of 1881 and Słownik lekarski polski [Polish Medical Dictionary] of 1905 shows that the synonymy withdrawal rate in this period was only 20%. The purpose of the article is to provide a detailed description of this process, including the process of an apparent withdrawal of synonymy in the lexicon of 1905 (e.g. some foreign language entries have not been recorded there at all; sometimes a synonymic string was removed while leaving a new term next to the foreign language entry, "new" meaning absent in the dictionary of 1881).
Po przebadaniu materiału leksykalnego ze Słownika terminologii lekarskiej polskiej z 1881 oraz ze Słownika lekarskiego polskiego z 1905 roku okazuje się, że w tym okresie synonimia wycofała się w zaledwie 20%. Przedmiotem artykułu jest szczegółowe omówienie tego zjawiska, w tym również zjawiska pozornego usuwania synonimii w leksykonie z 1905 roku (np. niektóre hasła obcojęzyczne nie zostały tam w ogóle odnotowane; czasem zlikwidowano szereg synonimiczny i jednocześnie pozostawiono przy obcojęzycznym haśle nowy termin polski; nowy, tzn. nieobecny w słowniku z 1881).
