The issue of „common wealth” is a classics of economic, sociological and even politological considerations in the area of social cooperation. Introduction of the neo-evolutionist context can, however, contribute new significant motifs to the analyses of the „tragedy of the commons”. Man is characterised by a natural, developed in the course of evolution, tendency to cooperate and compete. Therefore, the construction of the social order aiming at the protection and development of the „common wealth” cannot disavow the human nature. Knowledge of our biological and evolutionary roots can be helpful while building the social order limiting the problem of the „tragedy of the common wealth”.

The innovation models develop over time, due to market and industry needs. As the main “product” of knowledge economy, innovations (as a concept) are symbolic goods, founded in symbols, not in atoms. This notion causes some consequences typical for information goods, like ease of replication or exchange, zero-marginal replication costs and cheap storage. On the other hand, there is a growing innovation production cost and uncertainty and risk of innovation activity that discourage companies from being innovative. Open innovation model shows the knowledge flows in the “inner” and “outer” sphere of the innovation process. The knowledge has been showed in some aspects: as private good, public good and also as “the commons”. The transition spheres have been showed too. Opening the innovation process is addressed to the costly and risky projects that cause risk aversion amongst entrepreneurs, but without which useful products might have never been produced. The goal of the article is to show the knowledge flow and knowledge transition between innovation actors, its “common” nature and the trial to show the value added in the open innovation process. Methods used are literature and data analysis as well as case study.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Praktyka Teoretyczna journal, we have invited our long-lasting collaborators and comrades to reflect once again on the concept of the common and it’s possible futures by posing the following questions: a) what is the most important aspect of the current struggles for the common?; b) what are the biggest challenges for the commonist politics of the future?; and c) where in the ongoing struggles do you see a potential for scaling-up and spreading organisation based on the com- mon? In his reply, Gigi Roggero draws our attention to the necessity of maintaining the link between the common, subjectivity and class composition, if we are to preserve the revolutionary potential of the concept and the practice it implies.

Mancur Olson offered us big thoughts on big subjects. Today, he might well attack the problem of climate change and the current failure of nations to act effectively. Olson would note the incentives of nations to ride free or cheaply. He would observe that climate change is an alliance problem, one where some nations have much more at stake than others. With climate change, the alliance problem is redoubled, since the asymmetries among nations fall along multiple dimensions, including those of vulnerability to climate change, history of greenhouse emissions, emissions per dollar of GNP, level of economic development, and cultural environmental concerns. Each nation, valuing primarily its own concerns, advances principles favoring itself in the apportionment of painful cuts. Not surprisingly, the cuts that nations have agreed upon for the heralded 2015 Paris Accords will be woefully insuffi cient to avoid exacerbating climate change. Thus, despite much international discussion and many platitudinous agreements, concerns about the distribution of painful cuts will continue to prevent the nations of the world from even approaching an effi cient agreement. Our threatened planet needs a more sophisticated approach to this and other collective action problems, a field pioneered by Mancur Olson.

Purpose – The aim of the paper is to indicate the reasons for too insignificant determination of some countries with regards to the issue of environmental protection. Research method – Acritical analysis of the literature together with deductive reasoning have been used. Among the quantitative methods, the author employed the use of the simple tools of descriptive statistics. Results – One of the reasons for too insignificant determination of some countries relating to issues in environmental protection is competition for the hegemony position they are involved in. The conservation of nature demands expenditure, which could be used to achieve higher economic growth. In the conditions of countries’ competition for the hegemony title, higher economic growth enables beneficial solving of the conflict. Originality/value – The author attempts to explain the reason for too low determinations of some countries in environmental protection, which is a current topic. Understanding the reason may contribute to helping to solve the problem of environmental protection on a global scale.

This article investigates two recent fictional representations of the feminized US surveillance state and its “security feminists” (Grewal), with an eye towards limning what visions of social transformation and political life such representations make possible. It first examines Gish Jen’s 2020 novel The Resisters, considering how the novel’s characterization of the US surveillance state as a snoopy suspicious Aunt maintains American liberal fantasies about the value of productive work and institutionally-sanctioned responses to state violence, even as the novel attempts to find grounds for reinvigorating a democratic commons. Jeff Vandermeer’s 2021 novel Hummingbird Salamander, in contrast, is suspicious of democratic visions of the social. Instead, the novel unravels the privatized figure of the “security mom” (Grewal) in order to experiment with how a queer antisocial orientation might confront environmental and institutional collapse and reimagine the idea of “security” itself.

The article joins the recent discussion, led by theorists of the commons, on the meaning of “commoning”. It proposes to recognize as the main feature of the practice of commoning the capacity to reproduce the autonomy of plebeian life-worlds that could possibly lead to a post-capitalist future. The identification of commoning as the activity of marginal subjectivities is presented here with the example of gleaning. This traditional activity of the poor is re-examined in the article as an ambiguous practice that escapes the binaries of activity and passivity, positivity and negativity, production and reproduction. Gleaning, with its reproductive capacities, serves as a model for commoning, understood as the new philosophy of praxis, which is much needed in the times of ecological catastrophe and the broken connection between labour and care. The history of struggles around gleaning and the commons, and the figures of the poor female harvester (glaneuse) and urban ragpicker (chiffonier) are recalled in the article in order to recognize the much devaluated potential of commoning to interrupt the history of blind productivism and, together with reclaiming the commons, to also reclaim our future.
Artykuł włącza się w prowadzoną ostatnio przez teoretyków dóbr wspólnych dyskusję nad znaczeniem pojęcia uwspólniania (commoning). Proponuje uznać za podstawową cechę wyróżniającą praktyki uwspólniania zdolność do reprodukcji autonomii plebejskich światów życia, które potencjalnie wykraczać mogą ku post-kapitalistycznej przyszłości. Rozumienie uwspólniania jako aktywności podejmowanych przez zmarginalizowane podmiotowości zostało zaprezentowane na przykładzie zbieractwa. Ta tradycyjna czynność biedoty została w artykule poddana analizie jako dwuznaczna praktyka, która wymyka się dychotomiom działania i pasywności, pozytywności i negatywności, produkcji i reprodukcji. Zbieractwo, wraz ze swoimi reprodukcyjnymi cechami, potraktowane zostało jako modelowy fenomen dla uwspólniania, rozumianego jako nowa filozofia praxis, która pozostaje tak pożądana w dobie katastrofy ekologicznej i w obliczu zerwanych połączeń między pracą a opieką. Historia walk społecznych wokół zbieractwa i dóbr wspólnych, a także podmiotowości biednej pokłośnicy (glaneuse) i miejskiego szmaciarza (chiffonier), zostają przywołane w artykule, by rozpoznać niedoceniany potencjał uwspólniania do zakłócenia dziejów ślepego produktywizmu i – poprzez dążenie do odzyskania dóbr wspólnych – także do odzyskania naszej przyszłości.

Artykuł stanowi propozycję filozofii podmiotu politycznego, która uwzględniałaby osiągnięcia dwóch (zwykle niewchodzących ze sobą w dialog) tradycji badawczych. Z jednej strony historii oddolnej, z drugiej – nowego materializmu, zainteresowanego kształtowaniem się wspólnot wielogatunkowych. W kolejnych rozdziałach eseju autorzy pokazują, dlaczego koncepcja motłochu (jako podmiotu wielogatunkowego) może okazać się bardzo dobrym narzędziem, użytecznym zarazem do studiowania historii klas podporządkowanych, jak i do budowania nowej polityki w warunkach kryzysu klimatycznego. Proponowany przez nich kierunek polega na oparciu sprawczości ludzkich i nie-ludzkich zdominowanych na praktykach wielogatunkowego uwspólniania.
The article proposes the philosophy of political subject, which combines two currents of social thought that usually do not enter into dialogue with each other. On the one side the text draw from the popular history of the subaltern classes, and on the other side it is indebted to the new materialism, which remains interested in the multi-species communities’ formation. In the following chapters, the authors of the essay present why the concept of the rabble (as the multi-species subject) may turn out to be a very accurate tool to both study the history of the subaltern classes and to create new politics in the era of climate change. The proposeddirection leads through the agency of human and non-human subaltern beings by the practices of multi-species commoning.

Celem artykułu jest rozważenie miejsca studiów tłumaczeniowych pośród innych narracji badawczych sięgających po retorykę globalnego kryzysu środowiskowego. Na tle ich dokonań dziedzina zajmująca się wzajemnymi relacjami języków oraz literatur wydawać się może zbyt antropocentryczna, stąd konieczne jest przeformułowanie jej podejścia na potrzeby nowego, politycznie zaangażowanego sposobu rozumienia komunikacji międzykulturowej i intersemiotycznej. Punkt wyjścia artykułu stanowią idee translacyjnej ekologii Michaela Cronina, opracowane w oparcio refleksję antropocenu oraz rozważania ekolingwistyczne. Głównym zamierzeniem autorki jest stworzenie nowego języka wartości, odmiennego od systemu wartościowania kapitałocenu. W konkluzji przedstawione są wskazania dla praktyki eko‑przekładu, możliwe do zastosowania zarówno w analizie istniejących tłumaczeń, jak i w formie translatorskich interwencji.
The article considers the place of translation studies among other scholarly narratives which are eager to employ the rhetoric of the global environmental crisis. Against the background of its achievements, the field of languages and literature may seem to be too anthropocentric; hence it is necessary to reformulate its approach for the sake of the current, politically engaged way of construing cross-cultural and intersemiotic communication. The article builds upon Michael Cronin’s translation ecology and elaborates further on Anthropocene thinking and ecolinguistic considerations. The author intends to establish a new language of values that would differ from capitalism’s value system. The conclusion presents recommendations for the practice of eco‑translation that could be followed both in the examination of existing translations and in the form of translation interventions.
