Opis:
Dzieje Kościoła katolickiego na Pomorzu Zachodnim i północnym przechodziły zmienne koleje losu. Biskupstwo poznańskie, a potem metropolia gnieźnieńska zapewniały przestrzeń do coraz prężniejszego rozwoju Kościoła katolickiego. Rok 1945 przyniósł nową rzeczywistość polityczną, a zarazem kościelną.
The history of the Catholic Church in Western Pomerania and North undergone vicissitudes. Bishopric in Poznan, Gniezno metropolis and then provide space for more robuster development of the Catholic Church. In this space should be entered Prussian bishopric and diocese of Chelmno from the metropolis of Riga. Unfortunately, Protestantism, which in the sixteenth century arisen in Germany, reached many European countries, including the Duchy of Pomerania, and with it the Church of Pomerania and Prussia, and the local Catholic Church. The next 400 years is a constant struggle for the maintenance and restoration of the organizational structures of the Catholic Church and the Polish border, but lost in successive partitions. The year 1945 brought a new political reality, and yet the church. Revival of the Catholic Church during the Reformation resulted in full bloom after 1945. – These lands have become Polish and Catholic

The article provides a systematic analysis of a body of conceptions on the beginnings of the bishopric in Poznań presented by Tomasz Jasiński in several of his lesser studies. In the light of the performed analysis it must be concluded that the basic points of Jasiński's conception, such as the criticism of Thietmar's account of the beginnings of the Magdeburg metropolis, the circumstances of the creation of Jordan's episcopal see on the occasion of the Roman imperial coronation and the legal status of Jordan's episcopacy are either contestable or simply unsupportable. Consequently, the entire claim should be  rejected.

The first Catholic Mass in Morąg was celebrated on 17th October 1869 by the priest Anton Gerigk. Since then, he celebrated religious services in that place four times a year. One of the places of worship was an inn called “Gasthof zur Ostbahn”. The priest August Blank from Miłakowo made efforts to buy real property that would be the basis for the building of a mission station in the town. Catholic services in Morąg were resumed in 1884 (after a 4 years’ break) by the priest Anton Malies from Pasłęk. The permission to build a chapel and a presbytery was obtained on 29th October 1888. The investment was launched in 1892, but, due to the lack of funds, the plans to build the presbytery were temporarily abandoned. The architectural plans were created by Otto, head of the planning and building office from Chojnice. The foundation stone of the new temple in Morąg was laid on 3rd August 1892, and the dedication of the church to Saint Joseph took place on 4th October 1893. In 1899, the building of a presbytery was commenced in the town. Stephan von Lipinski was appointed as the first priest in Morąg. The parish was founded on 25th November 1903. The said pastoral institution was supported financially by, among others, the Boniface Association in Paderborn.

Opis:
The issue of the episcopal palace – or villa – in Brok has been addressed in numerous studies. The nearly complete destruction of the structure, however, made it difficult to conduct in-depth research into its original architecture and to define the circle of its potential builders. The function of the building and the relevant terminology were unclear as well, since some sources referred to it as a castle. On the basis of visual documentation and hitherto unknown and unused written sources, the article presents new findings on the architecture of the palace, enabling its full reconstruction. These findings not only materially supplement its construction history, but also open up interesting research perspectives on the questions of the palace’s stylistic origins, the builders involved in its construction, its function, significance, and finally the place it occupied in the residential architecture of Poland in the first quarter of the 17th century.

Opis:
In the first half of the 19th century the number of Catholics in Dąbrówno in East Prussia began to increase, as a consequence of which pastoral services in this area were necessary. This task was undertaken by the priests of the Bishopric of Culm. Since 1860, Masses were celebrated once a month by the priest from Turowo. Abdon Stengert was appointed as the first priest on 23rd September 1862. A few days later, on 29th September, he started his pastoral services in Dąbrówno; this involved the creation of a pastoral institution. The new priest’s task was to build a parish house, in which a classroom and a teacher’s apartment would also be located. The cost of this building and utility buildings was 4795 Thaler, 9 Silbergroschen and 2 Pfennig. Catholic services were celebrated in the above mentioned classroom, but it was too small for the increasing number of worshippers. In the years 1863–1865 a church was built. It was dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk by the bishop of Culm, Jan Nepomucen Marwicz – the main benefactor of the church. Dąbrówno received parish rights on 28th October 1863. This decision was approved by the state authorities on 16th March 1864. Private elementary Catholic schools founded in Dąbrówno (7th January 1865) and in Marcinkowo (1st October 1867) functioned till 1877. Th ey were liquidated due to the restrictive policies of the state authorities, related to the Kulturkampf. The pastoral institution was supported financially by the Boniface and Wojciech Association in Pelplin.

Opis:
In the first half of the 19th century, the Catholics of Nidzica, deprived of pastoral care, participated in religious services in neighbouring Janowo. In 1841, when the Russian officials tightened their control of the borders, there occurred a necessity to stimulate the religious life in the Nidzica district. The Catholic mission in Nidzica was founded on 20 February 1854 by Bishop Anastazy Sedlag from Pelplin. Franciszek Wollschläger was appointed as its first priest. The financial support of the new pastoral institution was guaranteed by the Boniface Association in Paderborn. The construction of the church was initiated by another priest from Nidzica, Herman Wodecki. The foundation stone of the new temple was solemnly laid on 20 October 1858. The ceremony of consecration was held on 3 June 1860. Earlier, on 21 February 1860, the mission was upgraded to a parish. Four years later, a Catholic school was opened in Nidzica. In 1890, Józef Januszewski, a priest from Nidzica, built a new presbytery and a tower next to the church. The Catholic population of Nidzica and surrounding areas were poor, so not only the Bishopric of Culm participated in the maintenance costs of the parish, but also religious organisations from other parts of Germany.

The written legacy of the Transylvanian princes preserved in Ukrainian archival funds is a less researched area. The aim of the article is to shed light on the documentary heritage of two Transylvanian princes preserved by the archival funds of Ukraine. The methodology of the research is based on the description of the sources, with the help of which new data is introduced into the scientific stream. Archival-descriptive methods were applied that can be used to exploit the historical data in the records. The scientific novelty of the article is about exploring sources that have not been published so far or have already been mentioned in the foreign literature, but are less known in the historical literature of Ukraine. Conclusions: The present study covers the documentary legacy of two princes, György Rákóczi I (1593-1648) and his great-grandson Ferenc Rákóczi II (1676-1735), examining the letters in the State Archives of the Transcarpathian Region, which were signed by them. Although the Transylvanian princes were not independent rulers, they left a significant mark in European history in the administrative, military and political spheres. Their military-political careers had an impact on the peoples of the region, the Ukrainians, the Hungarians, the Poles and the Germans alike. Of all the princes of the Rákóczi dynasty, the documentary legacy of the princes mentioned above is the richest in the State Archives of the Transcarpathian Region. The princes in question were suffering in the European space between the two great powers of the time, the Habsburgs and the Turkish Empire, and could succeed only with great effort. Letters, decrees, and other orders written or issued in the princely chancelleries, the description of which appears in this article, are essentially the result of the present research. These expand the image of the relationship between the peoples living in the principality and the Rákóczis, who often acted in political coercion. A detailed examination of the princes' letters of donation, the treaties with the rulers, or the relations with the poor peasantry may be of interest for further research.

Opis:
Until the middle of the 19th century, the Catholic population of Olsztynek and its surrounding areas belonged to the Culm diocese. As a result of the decree of the Holy See of 1859, this area was incorporated into the Warmia diocese. The development of ministry was initiated in 1866 by the rector of Gryźliny. A ministry institution was established in Olsztynek in 1868. The first priest responsible for the religious life of the Catholics in this area was Julius Albrecht. After his death in 1878, there was no Catholic priest in Olsztynek for more than 5 years, due to the Kulturkampf. Olsztynek was given the rights of a mission parish in 1870. One of the main problems of the local community was the venue. The services were held in a chapel whose size did not correspond to the increasing number of Catholics. Therefore, in 1885 it was decided that a church should be built. Thanks to the initiative and consistent attitude of the priest Paul Jedzink, sufficient funds were collected to start the building works. The foundation stone of the new temple was laid on 10th November 1886, and the consecration took place on 26th September 1888. For a few years, building debts were paid. Olsztynek was given the rights of an ordinary parish in 1895. During the World War I, the church bells were requisitioned. The church was also damaged as a result of an artillery attack, but necessary repairs were made after the war. The roof was covered with copper sheet and new bells were cast. The number of parishioners increased constantly, from 520 in 1868 to 1637 in 1938. In the area of the parish, numerous associations and religious organisations were active. In order to carry out the building investments, there were endeavours to obtain funds from outside the parish, most of all from the Saint Boniface and Adalbert Association.

This text comprises the first complete critical edition of eight out of twelve primary sources contained in the fifteenth-century cartulary from the State of the Teutonic Order in Prussia. The cartulary is currently kept in the Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin and is marked with archival reference number OF 80a. The creation of the cartulary was connected with a dispute over the territory and the borders of the dominion of the Bishopric of Warmia (Ermland). It contains copies of the privileges issued by the bishop and the Cathedral Chapter of Warmia in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries for the towns located on the border with the Teutonic Order territories. Some copies of the documents are directly related to this dispute and refer to the judgement of the arbitration court of 1374 and the inspections of the border between the territory of the bishopric and the Order of 1428 and 1449. In order to present the reader with the most accurate version of the source text, the content of the cartulary, which is the basis of this edition, has been compared with other preserved copies of the documents published here. These copies were included in fifteenth-century books containing privileges issued by the Cathedral Chapter of Warmia, which are currently kept in the Archives of the Archdiocese of Warmia in Olsztyn.

Opis:
In 1836, the Bishop of Culm, Anastazy Sedlag, suggested to the Prussian authorities that the bishop seat be moved from Pelplin to Culm. The translocation was also meant to include diocese institutions in Pelplin. On the basis of his calculations, one can find that the creation of a diocese capital in Culm would cost 14,850 thalers less than the completion of construction and adaptation works in Pelplin. It should be noted that the translocation expenses amounted to 62,750 thalers. The twelve-year period of Pelplin functioning as the seat of bishops did not influence its economic growth. Priests employed in the diocese administration experienced numerous difficulties in access to food products and means of transport. The ministry of religious affairs, education and medicine rejected the above mentioned Bishop Sedlag`s plans. The decision was supported by the argument of the amount of capital invested in the adjustment of the infrastructure of Pelplin to the needs of diocese institutions. Besides, diocese construction funds had been almost used up by that time. However, a decision was made to create a post office in Pelplin, as well as to reconstruct selected stretches of roads.

Opis:
Omówiono w kontekście archiwistycznym: miejsce przechowywania, stan zachowania, opis fizyczny i przyczyny małego wykorzystania przez badaczy inwentarza dóbr biskupstwa płockiego z 1650 r. Następnie przedstawiono genezę i przebieg lustracji z 1650 r., przeprowadzonej z inicjatywy biskupa płockiego Karola Ferdynanda Wazy. Autor przedstawił treść inwentarza w rozbiciu na opisy 139 wsi, 47 folwarków, 7 miast i krótko scharakteryzował pozostałe treści. Wskazał na szerokie możliwości wykorzystania źródła w badaniach nad historią gospodarczą Mazowsza na tle porównawczym Korony, stosunków społecznych, struktury wielkości gospodarstw, osadnictwa i onomastyki.
The following were discussed in the archival context: the place of storage, state of preservation, physical description and reasons why the 1650 inventory of the Płock bishopric has been little used by researchers. The discussion was conducted against the background of the achievements of Polish historiography in the matter in question, as well as the state of preservation and the content of other inventories of the Płock bishopric from the 16th-18th centuries, preserved in the Diocesan Archives in Płock. Then, the origin and course of the 1650 inspection and review, carried out on the initiative of the bishop of Płock, Karol Ferdynand Waza, were presented. The author presented the contents of the inventory broken down into descriptions of 139 villages, 47 granges, 7 towns and briefly characterized the other items of the contents. They pointed to the extensive possibilities of using the source in research on the economic history of Mazovia against the comparative background of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland, social relations, the structure of farm size, settlement and onomastics.

The article deals with the problem of searching for the essence of the relationship between the particular and the universal Church. It presents the pivots of division into the universal Church and the particular Churches. The issue of the universal Church’s primacy and the interaction between them is extended. Presented are the forms of the presence of the universal Church in the particular and the nature and mission of the episcopate. The consideration is analytical and synthesizing. The work is part of the current of reflections on Eucharistic ecclesiology and the theology of the particular Church. These issues in the thought of J.R. Villar show how to understand the relationship of the particular Church to the universal.

Opis:
Bonifacego i Wojciecha w Pelplinie. Gowidliński kościół pw. Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny został wzniesiony w latach 1866–1868.
The nineteenth‑century, West Prussian Gowidlino, belonging to the Sierakowice parish, was situated in the western part of the Kartuzy county. The authorities of the Bishopric of Culm, fearing Protestant influences, founded a parish in Gowidlino on 13 January 1866. Villages near the border, located in the Province of Pomerania and belonging to the diaspora of the Bishopric of Culm, were subordinate to it. The pastoral institution received help from organisations and Church associations which supported missionary activity, including the Boniface and Adalbert Association in Pelplin. The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary church in Gowidlino was built in the years 1866‒1868. The elements of the interior decoration were mostly ordered in artists’ workshops located in western German provinces. Johannes Nepomuk von der Marwitz, who gave considerable support for the building investments of the church, was the protector of the parish. For more than 20 years, the institution was financially supported by the Diocese of Passau. Since 1876, every six weeks, the priest of Gowidlino celebrated Masses in Karwno, which was located in the Province of Pomerania. There was a Catholic elementary school with two teachers, one of whom also gave religion lessons in the Evangelical school in Mydlita.
