    The article describes the iconographic images of Christ in the form of an angel, which developed in the art of the east, but were also present in the West. Such images are often associated with a symbolic representation of the Divine Wisdom, an example of which is the icon Sophia-Wisdom of God coming from Novgorod. The icon in the center of this is shown angel who can be identified with the Son of God or the Holy Spirit. The inspiration for these subjects were texts from the Book of Sirach, the Book of Wisdom, or the Book of Proverbs. To be known iconographic types on Christ Sacred Silence, which was based on the prophecies of Isaiah. In the West, the more popular he was painting entitled Christ Crucified Serafin, which is based on the vision of St. Francis of Assisi. The best-known present Christ as an angel also appear to topics showing the type of the Old Testament Trinity, where the three angels who sit at the table imagine the three divine Persons. The most famous of this type of icon is by Andrew Rublev.

    In his reflection on doctors’ work and the process of treatment (Sir 38:1-15), Ben Sira draws attention to the usage of medications (Sir 38:4-8). Many contemporary Jews were probably recalcitrant to use them as ancient medicine resorted to magic. Magic was also employed in the production of medications. The first part of the article synthetically presents the usage of medicines in ancient Israel on the basis of the Old Testament. Then a literary analysis and exegesis of Sir 38:4-8 is attempted. The present article takes into consideration the Greek version of this pericope, for it constitutes the canonical text of the Book of Sirach (the article nevertheless compares the Greek text to its Hebrew original). The pericope evinces a concentric structure (A – 38:4-5; B – 38:6; A’ – 38:7-8). The verses that frame the pericope refer to medicines (vv. 4–5 are devoted to the justification of their use while vv. 7–8 mention the reasons they are used for). The central part (38:6), in turn, focuses on the origin of medical knowledge. Ben Sira strives to persuade his fellow Jews to use medications as they are not related to magic and pose no threat to believers. It is God who created them, and they come from him. The sage refers in his argumentation to what happened in Marah (cf. Exod 15:25) to justify the use of medicines and their natural origin. Medicaments help cure diseases and afflictions and they restore harmony of creation, disrupted by disease and suffering (38:8). Their divine provenance is also corroborated by the fact that knowledge of medicine and medications was given to people by God (38:6). Hence, people should worship God for this great gift.In Sir 38:4-8 Ben Sira performs a perfect synthesis of contemporary medicine developed by neighboring (pagan) peoples with Israel’s faith (only God can cure a person but he does so through medications; medicine is thus a tool in his hands). The sage noticed the positive value and usefulness of medications but through referring to God and showing the divine provenance of medicine he dispelled any doubts the believers might have had concerning the use of medications to cure a disease.

    The Book of Wisdom is one of those late biblical Judaism texts that were created in the context of the creative confrontation with the Hellenic culture prevailing at that time. This confrontation concerned, among others, the basic question of faith of the chosen people, namely, the profession of the one only God who manifests his justice in the events of national and universal history. The basic event for the author of the Book of Wisdom is the exodus of Israel from Egypt, the aim of which was the entry of the chosen people into the Promised Land. On this way the nation experienced Godʼs Justice that proved to be his Grace and Mercy.

    Katechetyczne wyjaśnienie Pisma Świętego i jego związku z liturgią stało się pilne, szczególnie w dzisiejszym świeckim społeczeństwie, w którym większość doktryn i praktyk religijnych Kościoła jest zagrożonych utratą znaczenia lub niewłaściwą interpretacją. Twierdzono również, że istnieje związek między przymierzami Boga a sakramentami inicjacji chrześcijańskiej w Nowym Testamencie. Artykuł ma na celu ukazanie biblijnej relacji sakramentów wtajemniczenia chrześcijańskiego z przymierzami Boga. Badanie to prowadzi nie tylko do wyjaśnienia ze względu na rosnącą świadomość i ciągłe pogłębianie rozumienia, ale także potwierdzenie znaczenia tych sakramentów i zasadniczej natury Chrystusa, który jest mądrością i mocą Boga.
    A Catechetical explanation of the Scriptures and their relation to liturgy has become urgent, especially in today's secular society where most of the Church's doctrines and faith-practices are under threat of either losing their meaning or misinterpreted. Also, it has been contended that there is a connection between God's covenants and the New Testament Sacraments of Christian initiation. The article aims to explain the Scriptural relationship of the Sacraments of Christian initiation with God's covenants. The relevance of the study is not only to provide an explanation because of the growing awareness and the constant search for explanations of things but also to reaffirm the importance of these Sacraments and the essential nature of Christ who is God's wisdom and power.

    W analizowanym tekście Rz 1,19-20 św. Paweł stwierdza, że ludzie są zdolni do poznania prawdziwego Boga i taką wiedzę faktycznie posiadają. Zdobywają tę wiedzę dzięki posiadanym naturalnym zdolnościom poznawczym oraz dostrzegalnym w świecie przyrody skutkom stwórczego działania Bożego. Poznanie to nie dokonuje się nie tylko na drodze logicznego wnioskowania przyczynowego, lecz także na drodze intuicji, czyli wewnętrznego doświadczenia, płynącego z refleksji nad różnorodnością istniejących bytów, potęgą sił przyrody, harmonią dostrzegalną w naturze, budzącą podziw mądrością, widoczną w konstrukcji otaczającego świata. 
    In the analyzed text, Rom 1:19-20, St. Paul states that people possess both the ability and the opportunity to know the true God, and they indeed actually achieve this knowledge. They acquire it thanks both to their own natural cognitive abilities and to the visible effects of God’s creative action in the natural world. This knowledge is not the product of a logical causal inference (i.e. from an effect back to its cause), but rather of intuition, which is an inner experience. It is rooted in reflection – but does not exclude reason – about the diversity of existing creatures, about the power of the forces of nature, the harmony perceptible in the natural realm, and the wisdom evident in the amazing design of the surrounding world.

    Artykuł analizuje metaforę światłości w księgach dydaktycznych Biblii. W biblijnej tradycji oznacza ona najpierw życie doczesne. Psalmy teofanijne opisują Boga jako źródło światłości, nawet jeśli towarzyszy Mu ciemność osłaniająca Jego świętość i zapewniająca ludziom bezpieczeństwo. Światłość wiąże się z Bogiem jako stwórcą świata, a także podkreśla Jego królewską godność. Również naród wybrany jako całość, a także każdy z Izraelitów osobiście, dzięki doświadczeniu Bożej pomocy może wyznać, że Bóg jest światłością. Metaforą światłości wyraża się również prośby o to, by Bóg okazał swoją pomoc i udzielił błogosławieństwa. Kolejnym sposobem jej zastosowania jest rozumienie Prawa Bożego jako światłości prowadzącej ku Bogu. Ten element wiąże się z teologią uprawianą w nurcie tradycji mądrościowej i oznaczającą mądrość i prawdę. Metafora światłości przechodzi więc od mitologicznych obrazów korzystających z tradycji bliskowschodniej po ujęcia właściwe późniejszym księgom biblijnym.
    The article analyzes the use of the metaphor of light in the didactic books of the Old Testament. In the biblical tradition, light signifies primarily earthly life. Theophany psalms describe God as the source of light, even though darkness accompanies Him, in order to canopy His sanctity and to provide safety to people. Thanks to the experience of the God’s help, the Chosen People as a whole, as well as each individual Israelite, can confess that God is light. The requests and pleadings addressed to God in order to receive His help and blessing are also expressed through the metaphor of light. The understanding of God’s Law as light guiding one to God is another notable use of this metaphor. The element of light is also connected with the theology cultivated by the sapiential tradition, signifying wisdom and truth. Thus, the metaphor of light extends from mythological images evoking the Ancient Near Eastern traditions on the perspectives appropriate to the later biblical books.

    The problem of biblical instruction and education is present in various aspects in the Book of Ben Sirach. This book contains a synthesis of tradition of biblical Israel but also shows openness to many positive elements of the Greek culture. Ben Sirach proposes a model of education based on the solid foundation of the Law of God contained in Torah. This model, respected through the attitude of fear of God, leads to true divine wisdom. Man in this process remains free. He can accept or reject Sirach’s request for education. Accepting it he must be aware of the effort connected with the educational process and the goal this process should achieve. The process begins in adolescence although it will last for the rest of man’s life. The best model of education should be the very life of wise men, who by their attitude are the best invitation for prospective students.
