    The article discusses an important matter of singing traditional Polish Len-ten songs in the contemporary liturgical celebrations. The author raises the problem of continuous topicality of these old Polish melodies and simultane-ously presents their today’s value. The whole teaching of the Church and the dogmas are focused in all these liturgical chants and hymns. The author would like to protect all these pearls of sacred music from falling into the oblivion. In the presented article the attention is focused on the fact that the typical Polish traditions such as: devotion of Lenten Lamentations, the chants which are sung during the Stations of the Cross and the Cross adoration should be cultivated. Their great popularity and the unique atmosphere they create is achieved by the artistic value of the songs and their undoubted prayer charm.

    The article argues that Krwawa ofiara Jezusa Chrystusa Syna Bożego (The Bloody Sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, 1616, 1621) by Wawrzyniec Chlebowski was not plagiarised from Pamiątka krwawa ofiary Jezusa Chrystusa Syna Bożego (The Memorial of the Blood Sacrifice of Jesus Christ the Son of God, 1610) by Abraham Rożniatowski. It argues that in terms of literary dependency Krwawa ofiara offers examples of imitation and compilation techniques. Moreover, the article indicates that the text does not plagiarize a short adaptation of Rożniatowski’s Pamiątka krwawa published under the title Zwierciadło (The Mirror, 1618). In my comparative analysis I have used the Open Anti-Plagiarism System (OSA). Chlebowski imitated the general pattern set by Rożniatowski, but introduced a number of additions, shortened or reorganised some parts, and replaced some elements with others. He also modified the original structure to create a handy and up-to-date meditation prayer-guidebook of the paths of the Calvary. The imitation strategies are visible on both the micro and the macro levels of the text whose reader becomes an active witness, a co-participant in Christ’s Passion and death.

    The article analyses the construction of Jewish characters in the following late medieval Polish apocrypha: Rozmyślania dominikańskie, Rozmyślanie przemyskie, and Sprawa chędoga o męce Pana Chrystusowej. The characters are built on a contrast between the figure of Christ and his tormentors. The article studies the following aspects of the contrast: hyperbolized aggression, beastial imagery, and the impurity of the perpetrators (which is conspicuous in images originating from the humoral theories). The literary representation of Jews (rather than Roman soldiers) as the ‘physical’ culprits of the Crucifixion of the Saviour also plays an important role in the texts under discussion

    Opis:
    Passion Plays staged in Poland have a long history dating back to the Middle Ages. Dramatic presentations depicting Jesus Christ’s suffering and death have been subsequently undertaken over the ages. Polish Salesians, working in the field of education and evangelism, especially among young people, have also repeatedly directed paschal events with the help of Polish youth and for them. The three contemporary, but very different presentations of the mysteries of the death and resurrection of Christ, prepared by three different Salesian environments, in Czerwińsk, Krakow and Poznan, indicate a continuous need of updating this topic. Realized with the use of various modern theatrical forms and means under the supervision of professionals in theatre arts, they still attract a wide audience.

    Artykuł jest przyczynkiem do badań nad ideą naśladowania Chrystusa, wyrażoną w ikonografii chrześcijańskiej za pomocą obrazowej metafory dźwigania krzyża wespół z Chrystusem. „Kto nie bierze swojego krzyża, a idzie za mną, nie jest mnie godzien” (Mt 10, 38) – z mocą nauczał Chrystus. „Kto chce pójść za mną, niech się zaprze samego siebie, niech weźmie swój krzyż i niech mnie naśladuje” (Mk 8, 34, par. Mt 16, 24). Wierni temu przesłaniu komentatorzy tekstów biblijnych, egzegeci, teologowie i mistycy przez kolejne wieki rozwijali, pogłębiali, komentowali i objaśniali ideę naśladowania Chrystusa, posługując się chętnie także biblijną metaforą „wzięcia krzyża na swoje ramiona”.
    The article is a monograph on the idea of following Christ, expressed in Christian iconography through the metaphor of bearing the cross together with Christ. „Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me” (Matthew 10:38) was Christ’s powerful message. „Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me” (Mark 8:34, par. in Matthew 16:24). Abiding by those words, Commentators of Biblical texts, experts on exegesis, theologians and mystics for centuries have developed, elaborated and explicated on the idea of following Christ, readily using the Biblical metaphor of „taking the cross upon one’s arms”.

Religijność tamtego okresu z jednej strony opierała się na dziedzictwie późnego średniowiecza, z drugiej zaś — wprowadziła elementy nowej pobożności, rozbudowała pewne formy kultu. Artykuł rejestruje różne formy kultu Męki Pańskiej, obrzędowość kalwaryjską, praktyki ascetyczne, pobożność maryjną i obszar hagiografii.     Opis:
    The phenomenon of Padre Pio’s active participation in the suffering of Christ shows us its two complementary levels. Even though the exceptional Grace appears in his soul and body in a visible way, it remains for him an inscrutable mystery. In this paper the author focused on the Padre Pio’s sufferings from Christological perspective. Suffering is valuable only if it is offered up in union with the Passion of Jesus. His Redemptive Suffering bestows a new meaning and value on human suffering. P. Pio didn’t comprehend his suffering as a rejection by God but as an invitation to the participation in the Redemptive Mystery accomplished by Passion of Jesus Christ. The author tried to show the P. Pio’s vocation to participation in the Suffering of Jesus and how he fulfilled it by willingly offering himself up and taking upon himself the burden of his cross.
    Analizując fenomen cierpienia ojca Pio jako jego aktywnego uczestnictwa w cierpieniach Chrystusa, odkrywamy jego komplementarną dwubiegunowość: z jednej strony mamy do czynienia z rodzajem szczególnej łaski, która manifestuje się poprzez zjawiska fizyczne i duchowe na ciele i duszy zakonnika, a z drugiej strony pozostaje dla niego samego niepojętą tajemnicą. Autor w swym artykule rozważa zagadnienie cierpienia ojca Pio z perspektywy chrystologicznej, to znaczy takiej, która w cierpieniu widzi rzeczywistą wartość o zbawczym znaczeniu, pod warunkiem że ma ona swe odniesienie do Chrystusa, który nadał cierpieniu taki właśni sens i walor. Cierpienie nie jest tu przejawem odrzucenia przez Boga, ale zaproszeniem do uczestnictwa w wielkim misterium odkupienia dokonanym przez Chrystusa. Autor prezentuje dwa poziomy współuczestnictwa ojca Pio w cierpieniach Chrystusa: pierwszy nakreśla ramy jego powołania do tej misji, a drugi ukazuje jej realizację jako programu życiowego, który wypełnia się poprzez dobrowolną ofiarę z samego siebie i przyjęcie krzyża.

    The cinematic scenes of the Last Supper were treated as a challenge to visual theology. As the Last Supper, which in the films about Jesus of Nazareth (and, of course, the gospels) is the culmination (and also a turning point as an event ending Jesus` earthly activity), it is possible to see the essence of the theological message of films referring to the gospel in its presentation. The scenes of the Last Supper from three films were subjected  to a comparative analysis, each of which is an individual director`s vision. These are The King of Kings (1961) by Nicholas Ray, The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Mel Gibson and The Thorn of God (2015) by Óscar Parra de Carrizosa. The selection criterion was the importance given in the films to the scenes of the Last Supper and their mutually diverse representations. It has been shown how the established new transmission of visual theology modifies the meanings determined by classical theology, basically not deviating from the framework set by it.

    The subject of Krasiński’s Non-prayer Prayer Poems is a number of his works which although fit the structural characteristics of the genre, are not in fact prayers. There are some other reasons for using this literary forms.. For instance, Daj jej o Panie… (Give Her Oh Lord...) is an instruction for the beloved one on how to behave in difficult life situations, and on the other hand a treatise on philosophy and religion. Another example is Boże, wysłuchaj modlitwę moją serdeczną… (God, Hear my Cordial Prayer…) which is a classic erotic poem addressed to Joanna Bobrowa. O Boże, błogosław tym… (Dear God bless those…) is yet another example of this phenomenon since it is a courtesy gesture towards the Ankwicz family and at the same time a personal and unlikely fantasy about the end of the world. The article reveals both Krasiński’s genealogical awareness of the prayer poem form as well as his religious attitude.
    Przedmiotem pracy Niemodlitewne modlitwy Krasińskiego jest grupa utworów poety które, mimo że spełniają cechy strukturalne tego gatunku, w rzeczywistości modlitwami nie są. Mamy tu bowiem do czynienia z użyciem tej formy literackiej do innych celów. I tak np. Daj jej o Panie… to z jednej strony swoisty instruktarz dla ukochanej, jak postępować w trudnych biograficznie sytuacjach, a z drugiej strony traktat filozoficzno-religijny. Boże, wysłuchaj modlitwę moją serdeczną… to z kolei klasyczny erotyk kierowany do Joanny Bobrowej. O Boże, błogosław tym… to natomiast swego rodzaju gest kurtuazyjnej wdzięczności wobec rodziny Ankwiczów, połączony z osobistą i dość oryginalną fantazją o końcu świata. Artykuł ten ujawnia zarówno świadomość genologiczną Krasińskiego w zakresie modlitwy poetyckiej, jak też jego postawę religijną.

    Opis:
    Celem artykułu jest pokazanie, jak w staropolskich narracjach biblijno-apokryficznych rozwijany był biblijny motyw Dobrego Łotra. Interesuje nas odpowiedź na pytanie, w jakim kontekście przywoływano ten wątek i czemu służył. Ze względu na łączenie się (para)biblijnego motywu Dobrego Łotra z ludowym motywem Madeja w centrum zainteresowania postawiliśmy zarówno wzajemne relacje między analizowanymi fragmentami apokryfów, jak i między tymi fragmentami a późniejszymi tekstami folkloru. Główny jednak nacisk położono na materiał staropolski.  
    The aim of the article is to show how the biblical motif of the Penitent Thief was developed in Old Polish biblical-apocryphal narratives. We are interested to know in what context this issue has been mentioned and what purpose it has served. Due to the merging of the (para)biblical motif of the Penitent Thief with the folk motif of Madej, we have focused on the interrelationships between the fragments of the Apocrypha analysed, as well as between these fragments and later folklore texts. However, the main focus is on the old Polish material.

    This paper entitled “The Provocative Reinterpretation of the Biblical Motives in Oskar Kokoschka's Gorejący krzak ciernisty” seeks to analyse and interpret this drama with an aim to prove its pre-expressionistic character. Its heroes are paradigms of sex deprived of personalities. They have no personal names but only generic names: Woman and Man. The most important lines of interpretation lead the recipient to biblical symbolism that combines Man's suffering and death with Jesus Christ's redemptive offering; now Woman is primarily identified with inexhaustible sexual passion symbolised by the titular burning thornbush, but then with Mary the virgin and mother. It is worth noting all the strata of the signs of the stage work, owing to the innovative pre-expressionistic character of the drama: the poetic language with its dominating adialogue as a form of expression, the architectonic and three-dimensional stage design, and contrast as a principle that governs the selection of colours.

    Opis:
    According to the teaching of Vatican Council II: “liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed […] and the font from which all her power flows” (SC 10). This meaning of “a particle” of Church life is what Rev. Prof. Jan Józef Janicki, celebrating now his jubilee, is so much convinced that he has devoted to liturgy, this beautiful Church attire, his entire scientific and life pursuits, writing about it with all his heart! The scientific research of Rev. Prof. Janicki has focused on the following issues: theology of liturgy (basic liturgical realities, theology of euchological texts of the new liturgical books of the Church, Paschal Mystery and its expression in the Eucharist and in liturgical year); history of liturgy (the influence of the Hebrew, Hellenistic and Roman cultures on the Christian liturgy, the liturgy of the first centuries of the Church, history of liturgical books); history of holy and jubilee years (history of liturgical movement, history of liturgical congresses, the role of Saints in the Church life in the light of Mass formulas); liturgical ministry (liturgy as exercising the ministry of sanctification in the Church community, the ministry of a sacristan, liturgy of the Holy Land). It appears that the entire way of “writing liturgy with his heart” was implanted in Rev. Prof. Janicki by one of the most acclaimed theologians and historians of post Vatican Council II period, the Benedictine monk from Maria Laach Abbey, Professor Burkhard Neunheuser. This remarkable man, the professor of Pontificio Istituto Liturgico in Rome, became Rev. Prof. Janicki’s mentor guiding him and showing the path for his academic growth. The key idea in Fr. Neunheuser’s post‑Council teachings about liturgy was emphasizing the role of the Paschal Mystery which is the very centre of liturgical year and of each Church activity. Therefore, Passion, Death and Resurrection as well as the Ascension of Christ are these events through which the most important “miracles” are done, namely, adoration of God and redemption of man (cf. SC 5,6). These are the pivotal moments in the history of salvation, as God’s plan is realized in Christ, and the centre of Christianity is Pascha, the sacrifice. The Mother Church takes an active part in His sacrifice, making His sacrifice her own, and by Him she is raised from this world up to God and praised. This participation in Christ’s sacrifice is the act of grace, so there must be belief, and everything is accomplished through the mystery of worship. Everything to which the greatest advocates of liturgy, such as, Prosper Gueranger, Pius Parch, Odo Casel, Romano Guardini and Burkhard Neunheuser amongst them devoted throughout the entire history of liturgy revival has been crucial to engrain the Paschal Mystery in man’s life. Here we can find this thread which links all those magnificent liturgists with our honourable Rev. Professor Janicki who has been proclaiming so successfuly the Paschal Mystery.
    Skoro „liturgia jest źródłem i szczytem życia Kościoła” (KL 10), jak naucza nas Sobór Watykański II, to z niej wszystko wypływa i do niej wszystko zdąża. O takim właśnie rozumieniu tej „cząstki” życia Kościoła niezwykle przekonany jest Jubilat, który dla piękna tej szaty Kościoła, jaką jest liturgia, poświęcił swoje naukowe i życiowe dociekania, dlatego można powiedzieć o nim, że liturgię sercem pisał! Kierunki badań naukowych Księdza Profesora Jana Józefa Janickiego koncentrują się wokół następujących zagadnień: teologii liturgii (podstawowe rzeczywistości liturgiczne, teologia tekstów euchologijnych nowych ksiąg liturgicznych Kościoła, misterium paschalne i jego uobecnienie w Eucharystii i w roku liturgicznym); historii liturgii (wpływy kultury hebrajskiej, helleńskiej i rzymskiej na liturgię chrześcijańską, liturgia pierwszych wieków Kościoła, dzieje ksiąg liturgicznych); historii lat świętych – jubileuszowych (historia ruchu liturgicznego, historia kongresów eucharystycznych, rola świętych w życiu Kościoła w świetle formularzy mszalnych); duszpasterstwa liturgicznego (liturgia wypełnianiem posługi uświęcania we wspólnocie Kościoła, posługa zakrystiana, liturgia w Ziemi Świętej). Wydaje się, że całkowitą drogę „pisania sercem liturgii” zaszczepił mu jeden z najważniejszych teologów i historyków liturgii po Vaticanum II, a był nim benedyktyński mnich z opactwa Maria Laach o prof. Burkhard Neunheuser. Ten wyjątkowy człowiek, profesor Pontificio Istituto Liturgico w Rzymie, stał się mentorem i wskazującym kierunek dla rozwoju naukowego naszego Jubilata.Kluczowe dla nauczania o soborowej liturgii przez o. Neunheusera było zwrócenie uwagi na misterium paschalne, które jest centrum roku liturgicznego i każdej czynności Kościoła. To bowiem Męka, Śmierć i Zmartwychwstanie oraz Wniebowstąpienie Chrystusa, przez które właśnie dokonują się najważniejsze „cuda”, a są to uwielbienie Boga i odkupienie człowieka (zob. KL 5, 6). To jest wydarzenie centralne w historii zbawienia. Skoro Boży plan zbawienia urzeczywistnia się w Chrystusie, to w centrum chrześcijaństwa znajduje się Pascha, czyli ofiara. Kościół bierze aktywny udział w Jego ofierze, Jego ofiarę czyni swoją ofiarą i przez niego zostaje podniesiony z tego świata do Boga oraz uwielbiony. To zaś uczestnictwo w ofierze jest dziełem łaski, potrzebna jest więc wiara, a dokonuje się to w misterium kultu. Wszystko to, czemu służyli przez całą historię odnowy liturgii wielcy jej piewcy tej miary co dom Prosper Gueranger, Pius Parch, Odo Casel, Romano Guardini i inni, a także Burkhard Neunheuser, było niezwykle ważne dla tego, aby misterium paschalne wkorzenić w życie człowieka. I dlatego wydaje się, że tu znajduje się owa nić, która łączy tych wielkich i wspaniałych liturgistów z naszym Jubilatem, który głosi z dużym powodzeniem misterium paschalne.
