Opis:
A method for measuring exhaust smoke opacity has been developed, which allows estimating the differentiated components forming black exhaust and those forming white smoke. The method is based on video recording and special software for processing the video recording data. The flow of the diesel exhaust gas is visualised using the digital camera, against the background of the screen, on a cut of an exhaust pipe, and with sufficient illumination of the area. The screen represents standards of whiteness and blackness. The content of the black components (soot) is determined by the degree of blackening of the white standard in the frames of the video, and the content of whitish components (unburned fuel and oil, etc.) is determined by the degree of whitening of black standard on the frames of the video. The paper describes the principle and the results of testing the proposed method of measuring exhaust smoke opacity. We present an algorithm for the frame-by-frame analysis of the video sequence, and static and dynamic mathematical models of exhaust opacity, measured under free-acceleration of a diesel engine.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of comparative research on basic physical and chemical properties of pure diesel fuel and two types’ mixtures of Camelina oil ester (Camelina oil ester content of the mixture was 10% and 15%) and diesel fuel. Application of these mixtures has different physicochemical properties to power supply diesel engine, made it possible to detect existing differences in the injection process (pumping and spraying). The analysis of the injection process has been defined through experimental graphs of the fuel pressure in injection line and registered height of the needle injector. With the knowledge of these two fast-changing engine parameters and loadvelocity conditions, there were calculated: fuel flow speed from nozzle, range and fuel spray disintegration time and the average critical diameter of the droplets. In the final part of the article it was shown, that the fuel with different physicochemical properties has a significant impact on the injection process. There were also made a comparative assessment of the suitability test compounds for use in service.

Opis:
The impact of various size particulate contamination on the process of accelerated wear followed by damage to the fuel injection sys-tem has been studied in long-term tests on an engine test stand. Also processes of tribological wear of working components of fuel injectors and of high pressure pumps material has been characterised. Measurement results of particulate contamination in diesel fuels available on the Polish market have been presented, referred to requirements of the PN-EN590 standard and of the Worldwide Fuel Charter. In the summary attention has been drawn to the growing problem of particulate contamination in fuels available on the market, and in particular their threat to durability and proper operation of increasingly complex and precisely manufactured HPCR type fuel injection systems.
