Opis:
The variability of the marine boundary layer parameters over the Baltic Sea and its sub-basins and their impact on the 6 h, monthly or seasonal deposition of oxidized nitrogen compounds was studied using results of the Hilatar chemistrytransport model, the 6th hour forecasts of the HIRLAM weather prediction model and meteorological measurement data. The monthly load of oxidized nitrogen was highest in the winters of 1993–1995 and 2000, and lowest in 1996–1997 and 2005; no trend was detected. Short-time correlations were low, but a significant correlation of the monthly deposition with the NAO index and ice-season was found over northern sub-basins.

Opis:
Nowadays, maritime infrastructure is heavily exploited, which requires monitoring. The article presents the implementation of spatial information which are point clouds for monitoring and analysis of the area around the port (buildings and wharves). For this study, point clouds coming from terrestrial (TLS) and airborne laser scanning (ALS), each of them having different accuracy, were used. An important part of the analysis was the integration of the two data sources. Through integration, the acquisition of information on areas not covered by the measurement in the presented case, one of the methods was possible for use (e.g. the roofs in case of TLS, or the lack of some of the walls of buildings in case of ALS). Another aspect was to use this data. Measurement of the shape and geometry of objects was executed. Additionally, the planeness analysis of individual elements of port infrastructure has been carried out. An interesting analysis was to determine the water level, based on relation to specific characteristics of the light reflectance.

Opis:
Anthropogenic alterations of the recent millennia of our era, in the loess areas of the Lublin Upland are clearly visible in the composition and character of the sediments that fill river valleys. This paper is an attempt to review this issue on the example of a small river valley that runs through the loess relief regions near Lublin. Samples were taken from deep drilling (up to 6 m) in the three cross-sections of the valley (Ożarów, Jastków, Snopków). A total of 172 samples taken from 5 drillings were investigated. The results obtained allow to conclude that delluvial processes dominated in the course of sediment formation that filled the Ciemięga river valley. Those delluvial processes started in the Neolyth by climatic changes and cutting down forests for the incoming agriculture - and have been intensified since the Middle Ages up till now. It is seen in a clear correlation between the growing part of ash components and mineral interbeddings in the peat deposits, as well as in the presence of cereal grains and weed pollen from cultivated fields in the investigated samples. In the chemical composition of the sediments, anthropogenic enrichment of K, P, Fe, Mn, Pb, Cr, Cu, Zn, and Co is observed.

Opis:
Specific, humid climate of mountain areas has a great influence on the properties of soils and vegetation, as well as on the mutual relations between these inseparable elements of ecosystems. Research on the interdependence between soils and natural vegetation was carried out on ' the mountain meadows of the Bieszczady National Park. In conditions of the cooler and more humid mountain climate the peculiar character of the soils lies in the presence of organic surface horizon of properties varying considerably from the properties of deeper mineral horizons. This horizon is of great importance in the protection of scarce elements. It prevents pollutants from reaching the ecosystem. It influences the soil water economy. It prevents erosion. This buffer element of the mountain soils requires special protection - in the Bieszczady Mountains the erosion of the mountain meadow soils is only noticeable where the covering vegetation and the organic surface soil horizon were destroyed, e.g. on tourist tracks. The plants of the Bieszczady mountain meadows, together with their direct product - the organic surface soil horizon, prevents the chemical erosion of the mountain meadows, reducing the leaching of many biogenous elements, e.g. calcium.

Opis:
Prezentowana praca dotyczy zastosowania metody TLS w inwentaryzacji lasu, tj. określaniu wybranych parametrów takich jak pole przekroju pierśnicowego drzewa (g), wysokości (h) i w efekcie miąższość pnia (V). Analizie poddano drzewostan sosnowy w Nadleśnictwie Milicz (wydzielenie 236a; wiek 105 lat). Skaning przeprowadzono z 4 stanowisk stosując skaner fazowy FARO LS 880.
The development of geodata acquiring technology has become very fast in recent years and leads to changes in many areas of economy, also in forestry, where new, revolutionary solutions such as terrestrial laser scanning are being implemented. Measurements of such tree characteristics, as the tree height, DBH, taper and the stem volume are subject of a number of studies. Generated sets of data (point clouds) need a chain of automatic processing. This paper describes the application of TLS in forest inventory control, i.e. in determining several parameters such as basal area (g), height (h) and finally the stem volume (V). The 105 years old pine stand in Milicz Forest District was analysed (plot no. 8). Scanning was performed from 4 stations with the use of a FARO LS 880 laser scanner. Reference data were collected using both the traditional instruments (DBH), and airborne laser scanning (h). Several methods and formulas were tested to calculate the stem volume, i.e. methods based on solid of revolution (involving 3 different pairs of cross-sections: 1.3 /6.0; 2.0/5.0 and 2.0/6.0 m above the ground), and sectional measurements. In both methods, the surface area of the crosssections was calculated using the author's algorithm (convex hulls). As the reference, the so-called empirical formula designed for pine was applied, together with volume calculated for 0.5 m sections on TLS point cloud. Traditional methods based on tables with volumes calculated for single trees were also used. The results indicate that volume measurements based on sections do not differ statistically from volumes calculated by means of the empirical formula, while the differences amount to 1.5 % only. As regards the method based on solid of revolution, the differences amount to 6.1% (cross-sections: 2.0/6.0 m, Std. dev 8.0) and 8.4% (2.0/5.0 m) causing the underestimation of the volume. Maximum values, calculated for single trees, are sometimes very high (38.4% for 2.0/5.0 m cross-sections), which indicates geometrical differences in the stem solid. The paper confirmed usability of section measurements within TLS point cloud and the need for further research on defining new standards and parameters for forest inventory control, as well as the necessity of applying automatic algorithms for data processing.

In order to estimate sorption properties of gypsic rendzinas from the Niecka Nidziańska area as well as compare a composition of exchangeable cations in arable and turf soils 24 profiles have been investigated which represented following subtypes: initial, proper, chernozemic and brown ones, and derived from 3 types of miocene gypsum: selenite, shaly and compact gypsum. On the basis of the investigations it has been found that sorption properties of gypsic rendzinas were formed under influence of lithological factor and depend on the activity of the parent rock which is expressed by a content of the active calcium in the rock. Humous horizons of the arable soils characterised of a slightly lower complex exchange capacity and a higher contribution of potassium and magnesium in the composition of exchangeable ions in comparison with analogous horizons of the turf soils. A content of exchangeable cations permitted to count investigated soils among the soils with saturated complex of exchangeable cations. In their complex dominated calcium and the contribution of acid cations was small.

Investigations have been carried out on the soil material taken from 46 profiles representing lithogenic soils from non-forest areas of the Tatra National Park. When selecting soil material an altitude above sea level (over 1250 m a.s.l.), a rock parent type (non-calcareous and calcareous) were taken into account, in case of non calcerous soils, the weakly developed soils - rankers were selected. On the basis of the investigetions the following conclusions have been drawn: sorption properties of ectohumus horizons in most of investigated lithogenic soils (rankers and rendzinas) are differ- enciated and formed under the influence of parent rocks. Ectohumus of Oh horizons of rankers sorbed exchangeable cations in following order H+>Ca2+≥Mg2+>K+>Na+. In composition of cations in Oh horizons of rendzinas dominated cations of calcium and the order was as follows: Ca2+>Mg2+>H+>K+≥Na+. In ectohumus of Oh horizons of rendzinas occurring under bilberry heath and pine dwarf and rankers the composition of exchangeable ions as well as a degree of base saturation were close. In investigated soils sorption properties of mineral or organic-mineral horizons AC or ABC, occurring in direct contact with the parent rock, were formed under the influence of lithogenic factor.

Opis:
We investigated the flowering probability and flower production in relation to plant size in a terrestrial orchid, Dactylorhiza majalis at 10 meadow sites in central and southwestern Poland. These sites differed in altitude (low, high) and management (presence or absence of mowing). At all sites, concentrations of nutrients in the soil were also measured. The probability of flowering increased significantly with the size of the plant in all populations, indicating that individuals do not flower until they reach a threshold size. Populations at high altitudes and the unmown sites had significantly lower threshold sizes for reproduction and showed sharp increase in flowering probability with plant size, compared to other populations. The threshold sizes for reproduction tended to decrease at sites rich in N and Mg and poor in P and S. Flower production was also size-dependent in all populations. Considerable between-site differences were found in the slope and the intercept of the regression between plant size and flower production. Flower production at some sites, at high altitudes, increased more steeply with plant size than at other sites. However, no pattern in size-dependent flower production was found relative to the measured environmental variables. Most of the size-dependent components of flowering probability were related to each other but not with the size-dependent flower production.

Opis:
The Macroregion of the Mazurian Lake District and the adjoining mesoregion of the Sępopol Plain were formed during Baltic glaciation and in the post-glacial period. The existing habitat differentiation, especially large variations in the soil cover, is divided into three distinct landscape zones. The northern areas of the district are typical heavy and very heavy soils, composed of tight clays and loams, represented by brown soils and black earths. They contribute to the ecosystem stability. Hydrogenic soils occupy only a small area. Agricultural production, when carried out correctly, should not threaten the habitat and should be in harmony with the area in question. The central, moraine area of the Mazurian Lake District, with unique natural qualities, is comprised of different soil forms and various soil covers. Brown and lessive soils are dominant among mineral soils. Deluvial soils are common, which is a warning sign on the danger of erosion. Contribution of hydrogenic soils is clearly seen. Protection of these soils, as well as re-naturalisation of the selected areas, is becoming vital. This area badly requires ecological farming. Light and very light soils, mainly rusty and podzo! soils, accompanied by large areas of sensitive for transformation hydrogenic, muck, and mucky soils occur in the southern part of the district, in the area of outwash plains. Outwash plains call for complex solutions to improve the quality of their mineral soils, as well as utilisation and protection of hydrogenic soils.
