Opis:
Based on the global goals for cleaner production and sustainable development, the pyrolysis behavior of cephalosporin residues was studied by TG-MS method. The influence of full temperature window on the safe disposal of residues was analyzed based on the “3-2-2” and “1+1” of thermal analysis kinetics, and the gas by-products of thermal degradation were monitored. Results showed that the pyrolysis of distillation residues were divided into low and high-temperature zones, including six stages. Maximum error rate (8.55%) by multiple scan rate was presented based on “3-2-2” pattern and maximum total fluctuation (33.7) by single scan rate was presented based on “1+1” pattern, which implied that the comprehensive multi-level comparison method was very reliable. The E value “E” of six stages showed an increasing trend ranging 166.8 to 872.8 kJ/mol. LgA(mean) was 27.28. Most mechanism function of stage 1, 2 were Z-L-T equation (3D), stage 3, 4, 6 were Avrami-Erofeev equation (AE3, AE4, AE2/3) and stage 5 was Reaction Order (O2). In addition, various small molecular micromolecule substances were detected such as C2H4O, C2H6, NH3, CH4, CO2 under full temperature windows and a possible pyrolysis path of residues was provided.

The paper presents a short review of recent achievements in the rapidly growing field of the template synthesis of nanostructures together with their possible application. The results of our own work, concerning the polypyrrole nanotubules synthesis inside pores of track-etched membranes, have been presented as well. Finally, the kinetics of nanotubule growth process using the SEM method and permeability for air of the resulting structures has been also determined.

Opis:
Template matching is a process to identify and localize a template image on an original image. Several methods are commonly used for template matching, one of which uses the Fourier transform. This study proposes a modification of the method by adding an improved rotation to the Fourier transform. Improved rotation in this study uses increment rotation and three shear methods for the template image rotation process. The three shear rotation method has the advantage of precise and noisefree rotation results, making the template matching process even more accurate. Based on the experimental results, the use of 10°angle increments has increased template matching accuracy. In addition, the use of three shear rotations can improve the accuracy of template matching by 13% without prolonging the processing time.

Opis:
Since the variability of data within readings from the same person is intrinsic property of every biometric system, the problem of finding a good representative - the template - was recognized and present since the beginning of biometrics. This problem was solved differently for different biometric types, yet usually the template somehow averages the collected data samples. However, for the iris type, the template is usually just one or a few samples. In this paper we describe the experiments that suggest that the averaging is also justified in case of iris template creation. This is an important fact, which can significantly improve a performance of biometric template protection methods for iris.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous hybrid materials comprising metal ion-based vertices and multitopic organic ligands (linkers). The possibility of combining a wide range of metals with similarly large number of available ligands opens ways to design the structures meeting specific purposes. At present, many potential applications of MOFs may require them to be constructed at the nanometer length scale (nanoMOFs). Introduction and aim. At present, several microbial diseases are prominent and of concern worldwide. The intent of this study was to examine the antibacterial potential of newly synthesized tetradentate macrocyclic complexes against different bacterial strains. The macrocyclic scaffold has gained attention as a biologically active class of supramolecular chemistry due to its unique properties and ability to target various microorganisms. Thus, the goal of the present study was to develop a series of biologically active transition metal-based macrocycles. Material and methods. All macrocyclic compounds were synthesized by a template method and validated by molar conductivity, elemental studies, and spectral and magnetic studies. Antibacterial activities of all metal complexes were evaluated against Escherichia coli (MTCC 739) and Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 731) bacterial strains by taking ampicillin as a standard reference drug. DNA photocleavage potential was explored using agarose gel electrophoresis. Results. Results revealed the formation of novel macrocyclic complexes via tetra nitrogen bond trapping of metals. Copper complexes have strong potential against S. aureus bacteria as copper and nickel both show good DNA photocleavage potential. Conclusion. The findings endorse the biomedical relevance of these macrocyclic scaffolds, suggesting avenues for further exploration in targeted drug delivery and potential clinical applications. The proposed octahedral geometry for the complexes enhances our understanding of their structural aspects. This research contributes substantively to the field, laying the foundation for future investigations in advanced antimicrobial design and application.

Opis:
In the ever increasing number of robotic system applications in the industry, the robust and fast visual recognition and pose estimation of workpieces are of utmost importance. One of the ubiquitous tasks in industrial settings is the pick-and-place task where the object recognition is often important. In this paper, we present a new implementation of a work-piece sorting system using a template matching method for recognizing and estimating the position of planar workpieces with sparse visual features. The proposed framework is able to distinguish between the types of objects presented by the user and control a serial manipulator equipped with parallel finger gripper to grasp and sort them automatically. The system is furthermore enhanced with a feature that optimizes the visual processing time by automatically adjusting the template scales. We test the proposed system in a real-world setup equipped with a UR5 manipulator and provide experimental results documenting the performance of our approach.

A manuscript stored in the Jagiellonian Library (no. 1564 from 1404) holds a fragment of a Polish calendar, previously unpublished, from the late 14th century or the early 15th century. Written on the last, extra parchment page, it is a fragment of a much larger manuscript. The first 13 days of January have survived (1 to 13 January) and 13 days of February (4 to 19 February). The fragment contains 17 names, five of which are not included in the Słownik staropolskich nazw osobowych (Dictionary of Old Polish Proper Nouns, W. Taszycki, ed., vol. 1-7, Wrocław 1965-1987), namely Arkadyj, Emilijan, Iginij, Sotera, Wedast. The word january (January, in Polish styczeń) has not been recognised by dictionaries, either. There is no equivalent of the calendar in question in Poland or other European countries. It is impossible to indicate the diocese or a milieu where it could have been used. The document includes a few names of saints properly attributed to the days of their cult and names attributed to days not used in other known calendars. This leads to a conclusion that the calendar was either used in an unknown milieu or we are dealing with a simple error of the copyist. The latter theory best explains the peculiarity of this fragment of the calendar. This is confirmed by marking 4 nd 5 February as Ide rather than Nones, and 12 and 13 February as calends rather than Ides. The calendar was probably erroneously planned by the copyist who confused the days and affiliation of saints. Perhaps these errors were spotted early, the copying process was never completed and the parchment was recycled. Most probably, the intention behind the calendar (1564) was a large parchment “poster”, reminiscent of a scroll, used to inform the congregation about the holidays in the year. The calendar is unique because of the names of saints included in it and the fact that it is written in Polish.

The use of an Analytic Hierarchy Approach (AHP) for scoring offers in continuous negotiation problems has been studied. AHP has already proven its usefulness in constructing a ranking of alternatives in discrete decision making problems. In negotiations, however, some issues may have a quantitative character and be defined by feasible ranges, which results in uncountably large sets of feasible offers. This is a problem to which AHP cannot be applied in its original form. Therefore we propose an approach to building a scoring system that operates within AHP and a predefined discrete subset of feasible alternatives, then a method for determining global scores for all the feasible alternatives is proposed. When this subset has been built, the notion of border alternatives is applied. Assuming that these border alternatives have been ranked, single-issue utility functions are constructed using linear interpolation over the set of selected border alternatives. Single-issue utility functions are then aggregated using issue weights in order to form the final utility function. The issue weights are also determined using AHP. Such an approach means that a relatively small number of comparisons are required for a negotiator in AHP process to build a comprehensive scoring system, which makes the process of eliciting the negotiator’s preferences simple and rapid.

The extraction of quantitative information from Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data sets (radargrams) to detect and map underground utility pipelines is a challenging task. This study proposes several algorithms included in the main stages of a data processing chain associated with radargrams. It comprises preprocessing, hyperbola enhancing, hyperbola detection and localization, and parameter extraction. Additional parameters related to the GPR system such as the frequency band and the polarization bring data sets additional information that need to be exploited. Presently, the algorithms have been applied step by step on synthetic and experimental data. The results help to guide future developments in signal processing for quantitative parameter estimation.

Scoring the negotiation template and building a scoring system for negotiation offers is a starting point for analysis of negotiation. It is usually done by means of a classical additive scoring model. Recent research confirms, however, that TOPSIS may be a good alternative to SAW-based models, since it significantly facilitates the processes of template definition and elicitation of negotiator’s preferences. Fundamental ideas of the TOPSIS, VIKOR and BIPOLAR methods have been analysed and attempts were made to hybridize some of their notions to propose an alternative method for evaluating negotiation offers.

The article presents a concept of the methodology of managing information and technical resources related to carrying on the activities and actions described in the first part of the study, and the majority of legally determined actions resulting from the emergence of a crisis situation. As a research area, a special public utility object was chosen, namely a civil airport. The crisis situation that occurred at the airport requires the involvement of many services that aim to implement actions aimed at solving it. The process of the above-mentioned activities, covers formal, organizational and technical aspects. These aspects are briefly shown in the second part of the article. In the third part, special attention was paid to collecting information flows on the crisis situation. On the basis of the research, it was pointed out that the diversity of notification systems, both in the aspect of the available information resources and technical infra-structure, makes the information exchange process disturbed, which may have a significant impact on the time and manner of resolving the crisis situation. The authors in the article point out a possible way to solve this problem by unifying the system of informing all the services involved in activities in a crisis situation. The final part of the article attempts to present a methodology, based on the idea of creating templates of actions, activities and processes, the use of which for crisis management will allow involved bodies to improve the effectiveness of services in crisis conditions, especially in the area of making decisions based on available information.

Structure, electric and magnetic properties of ordered Ni and Ni-Pd nanostructures synthesized by means of electrochemical deposition in porous anodic aluminum oxide templates were investigated. Templates were filled with nickel and nickel-palladium compositions using the alternative current. Matrix parameters (pores diameter and depth) determine the sizes and morphology of the formed metal nanowires. Negative sign of magnetoresistance was observed at T < 50 K and attributed to TMR effect due to variable range hopping carrier transport mechanism. Positive magnitoresistance was observed at T > 100 K and explained by Lorence-like mechanism. The presence of magnetic perpendicular anisotropy towards template plane in synthesized nanostructures was revealed. Demagnetizing factors of individual nanowire in parallel and perpendicular direction towards template plane were determined by magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Revealed increase of coercivity in nanowires containing palladium was explained by the formation of quasi- multilayered structure of Ni/Pd nanowires during the ac electrochemical deposition.
Struktura, właściwości elektryczne i magnetyczne uporządkowanych Ni Ni-Pd nanostruktur syntezowanych metodą elektrochemicznego nanoszenia w porowatej matryce z utlenionego aluminiowego anodu. Matryca została wypełniona Ni lub Ni-Pd mieszanką z wykorzystaniem prądu zmiennego. Parametry matrycy (średnica i głębokość pór) wpływały na rozmiary i morfologię tworzących się metalicznych nanodrutów. Ujemna magnetorezystancja była obserwowana w temperaturze T<50K i mogła być opisana w ramkach mechanizmu skokowej przewodności. Pozytywna magnetorezystancja została obserwowana dla T>100K i odpowiada mechanizmowi typu Lorence. Obecność magnetycznej prostopadłej anizotropii w stosunku do płaszczyzny matrycy była zanotowana. Demagnezujący czynnik pojedynczych nanodrutów w kierunkach równoległych i prostopadłych do płaszczyzny matrycy był wyznaczony z badań metodą magnetycznej spektroskopii rezonansowej. Zaobserwowany wzrost komercyjności w nanodrutach zawierających palladium może być związany z formowaniem kwasi-wielowarstwowej struktury w Ni/Pd nanodrutach w trakcie elektrochemicznego osadzenia.

Biometrics is the science of human recognition by means of their biological, chemical or behavioural traits. These systems are used in many real life applications simply from biometric based attendance system to providing security at a very sophisticated level. A biometric system deals with raw data captured using a sensor and feature template extracted from raw image. One of the challenges being faced by designers of these systems is to secure template data extracted from the biometric modalities of the user and protect the raw images. In order to minimize spoof attacks on biometric systems by unauthorised users one of the solutions is to use multi-biometric systems. Multi-modal biometric system works by using fusion technique to merge feature templates generated from different modalities of the human. In this work, a novel scheme is proposed to secure template during feature fusion level. The scheme is based on union operation of fuzzy relations of templates of modalities during fusion process of multimodal biometric systems. This approach serves dual purpose of feature fusion as well as transformation of templates into a single secured non invertible template. The proposed technique is irreversible, diverse and experimentally tested on a bimodal biometric system comprising of fingerprint and hand geometry. The given scheme results into significant improvement in the performance of the system with lower equal error rate and improvement in genuine acceptance rate.

CASP (Critical Assessment of protein Structure Prediction) is a community-wide experiment for protein structure prediction taking place every two years since 1994. In CASP 11 held in 2014, according to the official CASP 11 assessment, our method named `nns' was ranked as the second best server method based on models ranked as first out of 81 targets. In `nns', we applied the powerful global optimization method of conformational space annealing to three stages of optimization, including multiple sequence-structure alignment, three-dimensional (3D) chain building, and side-chain remodeling. For the fold recognition, a new alignment method called CRF align was used. The good performance of the nns server method is attributed to the successful fold recognition carried out by combined methods including CRF align, and the current modeling formulation incorporating accurate structural aspects collected from multiple templates. In this article, we provide a successful example of `nns' predictions for T0776, for which all details of intermediate modeling data are provided.

In the field of video coding, inter-frame prediction plays an important role in improving compression efficiency. The improved efficiency is achieved by finding predictors for video blocks such that the residual data can be close to zero as much as possible. For recent video coding standards, motion vectors are required for a decoder to locate the predictors during video reconstruction. Block matching algorithms are usually utilized in the stage of motion estimation to find such motion vectors. For decoder-side motion derivation, proper templates are defined and template matching algorithms are used to produce a predictor for each block such that the overhead of embedding coded motion vectors in bit-stream can be avoided. However, the conventional criteria of either block matching or template matching algorithms may lead to the generation of worse predictors. To enhance coding efficiency, a fast weighted low-rank matrix approximation approach to deriving decoder-side motion vectors for inter frame video coding is proposed in this paper. The proposed method first finds the dominating block candidates and their corresponding importance factors. Then, finding a predictor for each block is treated as a weighted low-rank matrix approximation problem, which is solved by the proposed column-repetition approach. Together with mode decision, the coder can switch to a better mode between the motion compensation by using either block matching or the proposed template matching scheme.

Biology not only provides inspiration in the design of walking machines, but also suggests detailed design solutions. Concise information on legged locomotion in the animal world is presented, and the relationships between engineering solutions and the biological world are shown. The construction of animal legs is briefly described and the most commonly used leg structures for walking machines are discussed, including references to biological patterns. Examples of bio-inspired walking machines developed by our team are given and several concepts of bio-inspired robots are discussed. The general aim of the article is to show how knowledge of the animal world inspires innovative design solutions for robots intended for practical applications.
Biologia nie tylko dostarcza inspiracji w pracach nad maszynami kroczącymi, ale także podpowiada szczegółowe rozwiązania konstrukcyjne. Głównym celem tego artykułu jest zilustrowanie na przykładach jak wzorce biologiczne przekształcane są w konkretne rozwiązania techniczne. Przedstawiono zwięzłe informacje na temat lokomocji nożnej w świecie zwierzęcym i pokazano związki między rozwiązaniami inżynierskimi a światem biologicznym. Pokrótce opisano budowę nóg zwierząt oraz najczęściej stosowane struktury nóg maszyn kroczących z uwzględnieniem odniesień do wzorców biologicznych. Podano przykłady opracowanych przez nasz zespół inspirowanych biologicznie maszyn kroczących oraz omówiono kilka koncepcji robotów inspirowanych światem biologicznym. Ogólnym celem artykułu jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób wiedza dotycząca świata zwierzęcego inspiruje nowatorskie rozwiązania konstrukcyjne robotów przeznaczonych do zastosowań praktycznych.

Although two strand transfer events are indispensable for the synthesis of double-stranded DNA and establishing HIV-1 infection, the molecular basis of these phenomena is still unclear. The first obligatory template switching event occurs just at the beginning of the virus replication cycle and involves two copies of the 97-nucleotide long R region, located one each at the both ends of the HIV-1 genome (HIV-1 R). Thus, one can expect that the molecular mechanism of this process is similar to the mechanism of homologous recombination which operates in RNA viruses. To verify the above-mentioned hypothesis, we attempted to assess the recombination activity of HIV-1 R. To this end, we tested in vitro, how effectively it induces template switching by HIV-1 RT in comparison with another well-characterized sequence supporting frequent homologous crossovers in an unrelated virus (R region derived from Brome mosaic virus - BMV R). We also examined if the RNA sequences neighboring HIV-1 R influence its recombination activity. Finally, we tested if HIV-1 R could cause BMV polymerase complex to switch between RNA templates in vivo. Overall, our results have revealed a relatively low recombination activity of HIV-1 R as compared to BMV R. This observation suggests that different factors modulate the efficiency of the first obligatory strand transfer in HIV-1 and the homology-driven recombination in RNA viruses.

Human face depicts what happens in the soul, therefore correct recognition of emotion on the basis of facial display is of high importance. This work concentrates on the problem of optimal classification technique selection for solving the issue of smiling versus neutral face recognition. There are compared most frequently applied classification techniques: k-nearest neighbourhood, support vector machines, and template matching. Their performance is evaluated on facial images from several image datasets, but with similar image description methods based on local binary patterns. According to the experiments results the linear support vector machine gives the most satisfactory outcomes for all conditions.

In an electrospinning process, as the deposition of fibres occurs randomly over the collector, the mats produced are generally expected to have homogeneous properties throughout the mat. This study compares the ultimate tensile strength, porosity, thickness and morphology of the different portions of mats sectioned at various angular locations. The influence of the template design and mode of operation of the collectors on the properties of electrospun mats were investigated. The inhomogeneity in the properties of the electrospun mat produced using stationary collectors was significant, irrespective of the different template design of the collectors. However, the collectors operated in the dynamic mode decrease variations in the properties among the different sections of the electrospun mats. By choosing a particular template design and mode of operation of the collector, an electrospun mat of desired orientation can be achieved.
W pracy porównano wytrzymałość na rozciąganie, porowatość, grubość i morfologię różnych fragmentów włóknin wytworzonych przy użyciu kolektorów statycznych i dynamicznych. Zbadano wpływ sposobu działania kolektorów na właściwości otrzymanych włóknin. Zaobserwowano znaczącą niejednorodność właściwości włóknin wytworzonych przy użyciu kolektorów statycznych. Stwierdzono, że kolektory pracujące w trybie dynamicznym zmniejszają odchylenia właściwości pomiędzy różnymi sekcjami włóknin. Poprzez wybranie odpowiedniego sposobu działania kolektora, można uzyskać włókninę o pożądanej orientacji.
