The aim of this article is to show risk as an essential factor that plays an important role in the development of technology entrepreneurship. Risk is both an opportunity and a threat in building a high market position. The great challenge for entrepreneurs is how to use the technology chance for the creation of competitive advantage in the global market. Moreover, this article presents the results of research about the barriers to academic entrepreneurship in Poland, which is one the main domains of technology entrepreneurship.
Celem artykułu jest prezentacja ryzyka jako istotnego czynnika, które może utrudniać rozwój przedsiębiorczości technologicznej, a jednocześnie może stanowić szansę na osiągnięcie spektakularnego sukcesu rynkowego. Ryzyko jest zawsze wielkim wyzwaniem, od którego przedsiębiorcy nie mogą uciec. Ryzyko jest szczególnie istotne w odniesieniu do kreowania i rozwoju przedsiębiorczości technologicznej. W takim ujęciu jest ono postrzegane głównie jako możliwość wykorzystania szansy technologicznej. W artykule zostały przedstawione również wyniki badań, dotyczących barier rozwoju przedsiębiorczości akademickiej w Polsce, która stanowi jeden z głównych przejawów przedsiębiorczości technologicznej.

Celem artykułu jest dyskusja na temat znaczenia przedsiębiorczości technologicznej (w przypadku której istotna jest innowacja produktowa i procesowa) w tworzeniu i rozwoju przedsiębiorstw wysokich technologii. Zaprezentowano koncepcję modelu przedsiębiorczości technologicznej rozumianej jako innowacyjny proces tworzenia i rozwoju przedsiębiorstwa, a także jako proces strategiczny. W artykule poddano analizie proces przedsiębiorczości technologicznej na etapie kreowania innowacji produktowej i procesowej oraz tworzenia szans praktycznego wykorzystania tych innowacji.
The purpose of the paper is to discuss the meaning of technology entrepreneurship (which is based on process and product innovation) in creation and development of high technology firms. The concept of technology entrepreneurship which is understood as innovation process and as project of creation and development of organization and as a strategic process is presented in the paper as well. In the paper the technology entrepreneurship process on the stage of creation of both process and product innovation and on the stage of creation of opportunity for practical use of this innovation.

In the article the author presents the technology entrepreneurship construct as a mechanism of strategic organization development. The impact of the technology entrepreneurship phenomenon on organization development is presented on three levels, i.e.: processes, attributes, and results. The strategy of technology entrepreneurship is described theoretically as an alternative to a conservative strategy. Then, in the part concerning the empirical research of the Aviation Valley enterprises in Poland, the author presents the sketches of empirical models of the technology entrepreneurship strategy, based on the methodology of a qualitative case study of comparative nature.
W artykule autor prezentuje konstrukt przedsiębiorczości techno-logicznej jako mechanizm rozwoju strategicznego organizacji. Wpływ przedsię-biorczości technologicznej na rozwój organizacji jest przedstawiony na poziomie działań, atrybutów oraz efektów. Strategia przedsiębiorczości technologicznej została teoretycznie opisana jako alternatywa strategii konserwatywnej. Następnie w części dotyczącej prezentacji badań empirycznych przedsiębiorstw Doliny Lotniczej w Polsce autor na podstawie metodyki jakościowego studium przypadku o charakterze porównawczym prezentuje szkice empirycznych modeli strategii przedsiębiorczości technologicznej.

Technology entrepreneurship focuses on transforming research and scientific potential into innovative goods and services. It is an interesting proposition for small and medium-sized enterprises planning to improve the competitive position based on advanced technology. Its use in economic practice faces certain limitations, arising both from the specifics of that category of entities and the external conditions of their operation. This article aims to identify and analyze of the incidence of barriers to technology entrepreneurship and to assess the impact of these negative factors on the development and benefits of using this concept in the SME sector companies. The survey conducted on a sample of 300 small and medium-sized enterprises from the region of Lodz aims at achieving the objective of the paper. The results allowed to determine the impact of selected barriers (considered by generic criterion and the direction of impact) on the level of development of technology entrepreneurship.

The paper is devoted to the problem of management of technology entrepreneurship. The aim of the paper is to present the most important barriers hindering the activities in the field of technology entrepreneurship of enterprises. In the paper there has been made an attempt to identify the new landscape of innovation and technology entrepreneurship, and there has been presented the results of the empirical studies in this field concerning enterprises of the metal industry of the Silesian Voivodeship. The value of the paper consists in showing the barriers to the implementation of the solutions of technology entrepreneurship of enterprises and the opportunities to support its development based on the minimum viable innovation system.
Artykuł poświęcono problematyce zarządzania przedsiębiorczością technologiczną. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie najistotniejszych barier utrudniających działania z zakresu przedsiębiorczości technologicznej przedsiębiorstw. W artykule podjęto próbę zidentyfikowania nowego krajobrazu innowacji i przedsiębiorczości technologicznej oraz przedstawiono wyniki badań empirycznych z tego zakresu, dotyczące przedsiębiorstw przemysłu metalowego województwa śląskiego. Wartość artykułu polega na ukazaniu barier we wprowadzeniu rozwiązań przedsiębiorczości technologicznej przedsiębiorstw oraz możliwości wspomagania jej rozwoju opartego na systemie minimalnej efektywności.

In the article author presents technology entrepreneurship construct as a mechanism of strategic organizational development. The impact of technology entrepreneurship phenomenon on organizational development is presented on three levels, i.e.: processes, treats and results. In the article the emphasis is put on organizational structures as mechanism of organizational strategic development. In the part regarding empirical qualitative research of companies, which are the part of Aviation Valley in Poland, the sketches of models of organizational structures which support processes of opportunity identification and exploitation are presented.

W artykule autorzy opisują kategorię przedsiębiorczości oraz kategorię twórczości technologicznej jako dwa istotne mechanizmy rozwojowe przedsiębiorstw wysokich technologii. Obydwa zagadnienia mieszczą się w obszarze teorii przedsiębiorczości oraz innowacyjności; ze względu na ich specyfikę zaprezentowano je w świetle podejścia konfiguracyjnego. Zgodnie z tym podejściem przywództwo, strategia, struktura oraz otoczenie to cztery podstawowe obszary składające się na wiązki przedsiębiorczego rozwoju organizacji. Główną tezą pracy jest to, że organizacje wysokich technologii wytwarzają różnorakie konfiguracje przedsiębiorczego rozwoju, które są złożone z mechanizmów przedsiębiorczości oraz twórczości technologicznej.
The categories of technology entrepreneurship and technology creativity as development mechanisms of high-tech organizations are presented in the paper. These phenomena are presented in the light of management science entrepreneurship theory, and in the context of configuration approach to organization. Leadership, strategy, structure and environment are the four basic domains which consitute the mechanism of entrepreneurial organizational development. The main thesis of the article is that high-tech organizations create various configurations of entrepreneurial development that are consisted of technology entrepreneurship and technology creativity mechanisms.

Konstrukcja modelu badawczego jest wynikiem krytycznej analizy literatury przedmiotu oraz wstępnie przeprowadzonych badań empirycznych o charakterze pilotażowym. W kolejnych rozdziałach artykułu autorzy omawiają poszczególne konstrukty składające się na ten model badawczy.

The category of technology entrepreneurship as a development mechanism of high technology organizations is presented in the paper. The phenomenon of technology entrepreneurship is presented in the light of innovation and entrepreneurship management theories, with strong emphasis put on category of technology opportunity. Then the phenomenon of technology entrepreneurship is connected with the development trajectories of organization in accordance with configuration school. In the end the author presents the research model of technology entrepreneurship and effectiveness of organization’s development trajectories which is the synthesis of earlier considerations.

Artykuł przedstawia pojęcie Przedsiębiorczości Technologicznej (PT), określa jej zakres oraz miejsce w całej gałęzi badań nad przedsiębiorczością. Wskazano na problemy w zdefiniowaniu tego zjawiska ze względu na jego wielowymiarowość. Omówiono propozycję modelu struktury PT, a także zdefiniowano pojęcia Przedsiębiorcy oraz Przedsiębiorstwa Technologicznego. Przedstawiono również argumenty dlaczego PT należy wyróżniać spośród innych typów przedsiębiorczości. Podkreślony został ogromny wpływ PT na rozwój gospodarki oraz konieczność specyficznego podejścia w kluczowych obszarach dla jej rozwoju.
The article presents the concept of Technology Entrepreneurship (TE), defines its scope and place in the field of researches about the entrepreneurship. Problems with defining TE are pointed out in that elaboration. The proposal of the model of TE framework is discussed. The definitions of Technology Entrepreneur and Enterprise are also included. Arguments why TE should be distinguished from other types of entrepreneurship are presented. The author has also underlined huge impact of TE on the country economy grow and the need for a specific approach in key areas affecting on TE development.

Technology entrepreneurship is becoming one of the solutions resulting in increased innovativeness and competitiveness of enterprises in the conditions of the so called new economy. It is the process of transformation of an idea into innovation, and it covers the conversion of scientific knowledge into products and services aimed directly at the commercial market. At its basis lies the effective cooperation between the research centres, capital market institutions and business support institutions as well as enterprises. Hence an essential challenge faced by the business entities is the development of appropriate relationships and forms of cooperation with the elements of the business environment, allowing for the efforts of the commercial as well as science and technology spheres to be directed at the creation of innovation with the use of market opportunities and the potential of the dynamic business environment. Therefore the aim of this paper has been set to draw attention to the importance of shaping of appropriate forms of cooperation with the business environment in the process of technology entrepreneurship development. In order to achieve this aim, a case study of MakoLab S.A., enterprise operating in the IT industry has been conducted.

Rozwój przedsiębiorczości technologicznej w Polsce wymaga inwestowania i efektywnego wspierania przedsiębiorstw, których działania koncentrują się w obszarze wysokich technologii (HT) oraz kluczowych technologii wspomagających (KET). Klasyfikacja podmiotów do jednej z tych grup jest poważnym wyzwaniem, które wymaga dopracowania zarówno definicji, jak i narzędzi wspomagających. Celem jest osiągnięcie takiej precyzji identyfikacji i typologizacji przedsiębiorstw, które zagwarantują właściwe ukierunkowanie celowych środków pomocy oraz stałe monitorowanie postępów ich rozwoju. W niniejszym opracowaniu zaprezentowano wyniki analizy przeprowadzonej dla trzech grup przedsiębiorstw – producentów oprogramowania w branży informatycznej (ICT), producentów wyrobów wysokiej techniki (HT) oraz twórców kluczowych technologii wspomagających (KET). Na tej podstawie wskazano cechy charakteryzujące przedsiębiorstwa o wysokim potencjale rozwoju oraz przygotowano rekomendacje dotyczące istotnych wyróżników tego potencjału, które stanowią elementy oceny innych podmiotów, starających się o pomoc i dofinansowanie swojej działalności.
The development of technological entrepreneurship in Poland requires investment and effective support of companies whose activities are concentrated in the area of high technology (HT) and key enabling technologies (KETs). The classification of entities into one of these groups is a major challenge that should be developed in both areas of definition and supporting tools. The aim is to achieve such precision in identification and typology of companies that ensure proper targeting of support activities and constant monitoring of the development progress. This paper presents the results of analysis performed for the three groups of companies – manufacturers of Information Technology (ICT), HT and KETs. On the basis of specified characteristics of companies with high growth potential it has been prepared recommendations for main criteria of this potential, which are elements of the evaluation of other entities are seeking help and financial support of its functioning.

While the general importance of information technology in management is a commonly known issue, its influence on organizational creativity and corporate entrepreneurship has drawn much less attention of researchers up to now. The author of the paper seeks to fill this gap by pointing out to some concepts already described in the literature. The main objective of this study is to characterize the managerial aspects of creative entrepreneurial organization, where the costs of processing, storing and communicating information are close to zero. Advances in information technology are conducive to new types of interaction between actors of economic activity. Describing an emergent theoretical framework for the concept of "creative corporate entrepreneurship" constitutes the author's core contribution besides adding the fresh insight into the openness of creativity and entrepreneurship. This paper presents three phases of the creative entrepreneurial organization, namely, creative novelty which means generation of new ideas, creative usefulness which refers to the selection of ideas in terms of their usefulness to launch new bold ventures, and exploiting opportunities. The third aspect should be considered in the context of eliminating the constraints of information delivery, which may be one of the most important sources of managerial transformations. These transformations lead to new methods of managing creative entrepreneurial organization.

This paper focused on academic entrepreneurship, an emerging phenomenon in Malaysian public research universities. The research demonstrated that academic entrepreneurship produced positive impact on research commercialization and university technology transfer for these public research universities. Academic entrepreneurship was also found to be one of the missing gaps in fulfilling the complete process of research and development up to commercialization. This study provided evidence of the appropriateness of using an organizational framework of academic entrepreneurship to measure the influence of the internal environment in stimulating the level of academic entrepreneurship. The results demonstrated that control systems, organizational culture, human resource management systems and entrepreneurial leadership behaviour were key predictors of academic entrepreneurship in these universities.
