Opis:: This article is intended to contribute to the academic debate on intercultural German language teaching and the relevant research in Poland. The authors present a critical overview and analysis of selected constitu¬ent aspects of intercultural education and keywords which are important for the evaluation of goals and content within the framework of interculturally-oriented teaching of German in Poland. The authors also discuss the form of presentation of intercultural aspects of education in The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment (Council of Europe, 2001), in the Polish core curriculum and in selected German language teaching materials which are meant to shape the intercultural competence of Polish learners at different levels of proficiency and in different types of schools.

Opis:: This study determined the level of assessment of subjects with CBT (Computer-Based-Training) application among marine engineering students of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo, Iloilo City. The participants in this study were the randomly selected one hundred and thirty-three (133) marine engineering students of JBLFMU-Molo, Iloilo City who had taken subjects with CBTs. The present study employed quantitative-qualitative research design by Creswell (2013). Results reveal the following: (1) review with CBT or CBTR review is the mostly utilized subject because this is needed in the marine engineering licensure examinations; (2) level of assessment of CBTs is excellent; (3) no significant differences in the assessment of CBTs were found out among marine engineering students as classified according to different variables such as academic performance, students’ classification, type of students, and section.

Opis:: This paper presented the results of an experimental study investigating the impact of clicker use through a smart phone application called Kahoot!. Despite positive results of clicker use in the existing General English literature, the impact of clicker use has not been examined in the field of ESP. To address this issue, this study investigated the effectiveness of clickers by comparing pre-test and post-test scores of a control and an experimental group and the scores of male and female participants in the experimental group. The results of a 10-week implementation of clicker use with the students of tourism and hospitality department in the experimental group indicated that while post-test scores were significantly higher for the experimental group than for the control group, there was not a statistically significant difference between the post-test scores of male and female participants in the experimental group. Implications for teaching ESP with the help of technology and suggestions for further research were also provided.

Opis:: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are commonly used in many kinds of organizations. Due to including ERP courses into study programmes in some universities, some practical aspects of the didactic process can be noticed in order to enhance the learning effects. Proper management of this process gives the chance of better efficiency in teaching. Even though new, modern, alternative teaching methods require more effort from the teachers, they’re worth applying because the results for the students (their knowledge and skills) are more solid and permanent. In this paper some experiences in the field of ERP teaching were described, selected didactic methods were compared. The aim of this article was to emphasize the role of proper didactic method selection in the teaching process management. Project-Based Learning (PBL) was presented as the preferable method of ERP teaching at the university level. On the basis of own survey, the students opinions and their attitude to ERP learning was shown.
Rosnące zapotrzebowanie na znajomość systemów klasy ERP zauważalne jest w wielu rodzajach organizacji. Przedmioty zawierające treści dotyczące systemów zintegrowanych od kilku lat pojawiają się w ofercie szkół wyższych. W celu usprawnienie procesu dydaktycznego i zwiększenia efektywności nauczania nie tylko obsługi systemów ERP, ale także i zasad ich funkcjonowania, w odniesieniu do procesów biznesowych, niezbędne jest odpowiednie zarządzanie procesem dydaktycznym. Nowoczesne, alternatywne metody nauczania wymagają zwłaszcza od nauczyciela dodatkowego wysiłku, jednak są one warte rozważenia i wdrożenia, gdyż w rezultacie dają praktyczną i trwalszą wiedzę. W artykule przedstawiono doświadczenia dotyczące nauczania studentów systemu klasy ERP z wykorzystaniem wybranych metod dydaktycznych. Zwrócono uwagę na metodę opartą na projekcie – ang. Project-Based Learning (PBL) jako tę, która w największym stopniu angażuje uczestników zajęć, dając trwalsze efekty nauczania. Opisano także wyniki badania dotyczącego opinii studentów na temat nauczania tą metodą.

Opis:: Artykuł bada reakcje słuchaczy na nowy format kursu wprowadzony na Wydziale Filologicznym Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. Kurs zawierał interaktywny komponent z zadaniami online w czasie rzeczywistym w sali wykładowej. Zamiast korzystać z dedykowanych systemów odpowiedzi, autorzy wykorzystali zadania Moodle LMS (Learning Management System), aby sprawdzić możliwość zastosowania ich w tym charakterze. Można więc stwierdzić, że pomimo niedostatków interfejsu użytkownika, ten i podobne systemy są nadal dobrą opcją dla interaktywnych zajęć prowadzonych stacjonarnie. Wyniki ankiety przeprowadzonej wśród uczestników wskazują, że kurs został ogólnie dobrze przyjęty, choć nie wszystkie jego elementy zostały w równym stopniu docenione przez studentów. W szczególności wydaje się, że istnieje znaczna różnica w odbiorze pytań otwartych i zamkniętych zastosowanych w kursie. Różnica ta może być rozpatrywana z różnych perspektyw, np. wygoda a niezbędny wysiłek włożony w naukę, zapamiętywanie informacji a nabywanie umiejętności. W artykule przedstawiono implikacje pedagogiczne, które mogą pomóc w rozwiązaniu powyższych problemów.

Opis:: Nowadays, we witness changing trends in terms of the interest in language learning. In Poland, more and more higher education establishments, not only public, but also private, introduce various types of majors concerning oriental languages, such as Chinese translation programmes.The aim of this paper is to compare the Chinese learning process in China and in Poland. In the first part, a comparative outline of both types of learning processes will be introduced, on the base of author’s few years of experience gained while teaching and studying in both of those countries. Furthermore, the author will investigate the results of teaching Chinese in Poland, a place of very few Chinese native speakers, as compared to teaching Chinese in the mainland of China. In the end, the proposals on what to do to improve the Chinese learning system in non-Chinese speaking countries will be introduced.

Opis:: This paper describes a “distributed method” of introducing the humanitarian engineering principles and concepts to the curriculum of telecommunications at a maritime university. That is by modifying appropriately the syllabi of the telecommunications subjects taught. The propositions made in this area are illustrated by the concrete examples taken from the current Polish Qualifications Framework for the higher education system in Poland. And, for clarity and consistency of presentation, fundamentals and principles as well as a basic terminology and features of this Framework are also highlighted here shortly. Moreover, it has been shown that the approach presented in this paper is more useful compared to a method based on organization of some special courses for students on the humanitarian engineering, in particular when this regards a maritime university.

Opis:: This article offers an authorial idea of curriculum contents integration thanks to implementation of phenomenon-based learning method, philosophy as a school subject, and design thinking. Author believes that teaching contents and school subjects need to be integrated in order to comprehensively discuss modern phenomena in lessons. The manuscript presents briefly each component: Finnish phenomenon-based learning method and its circumstances of implementation, design thinking and an example of its application to education, as well as philosophy as a school subject to teach thinking and as a supplement for phenomenonbased learning method. The article attempts to prove that these components have certain objectives and characteristics in common and they complete one another providing new quality of teaching. This proposal is specifically designed for Polish education system having in consideration its obstacles and opportunities. Nevertheless, this idea might act also as an inspiration for other countries because it is meant to be universal.

Opis:: The aim of the article is the analysis of the foundations in curricular reform in education initiated in 2017 in order to observe how student’s subjectivity is understood in the reform. The most important educational regulations were analised. They were the Law of 14 December 2016 of Education Law and the Statute of 14 February 2017 of the Minister of Education conserning the core curriculum in the nursery education and the core curriculum in genaral education for primary schools together with mentally disabled students (both moderate and significant disability) and the core curriculum in general education for 1st degree vocational schools , general education for special school preparing to work and general education for post-secondary schools. The study shows that authors of the reform repeatedly refer to pupils as the subject od pedagogical and educational activities in the reformed system. This attitude is visible in the choice of educational content, methods, organisation and creating of suitable conditions right for individual needs of each pupil. As far as upbringing is conserned the reform focuses on student’s development in each field, acquiring proper cognitive and social experiences. The teacher’ s role is to support pupil’s development and form their identity based on values.

This subject can be successfully used in the teaching the database and programming subjects.

Opis:: The author shares his experiences of university teaching during the time of restrictions imposed on teaching and learning modes due to a pandemic. The relative scarcity of literature analyzing the response in the fields of science and engineering to the pandemic served as motivation. After providing general background information about the pandemic’s impact on educational systems worldwide, the article provides qualitative research with a narrative model for a case study of an engineering program at an American university. The analyzed case concerns the teaching and learning methodologies implemented in an electro-mechanical engineering technology bachelor’s degree program at Pennsylvania State University – the Fayette campus in the academic years 2020-22. Pennsylvania State University’s chosen teaching modes in the time of the pandemic to be used by instructors provide an example of adaptability of a higher education institution to the changing teaching and learning circumstances. The pedagogical approach to preparing, delivering, and assessment of learning effectiveness in engineering courses with a laboratory component is described. The article also shows how to use the learning management system, Canvas, with its analytical utility tool, to improve effectiveness and responsiveness of the teaching and learning process. The shortcomings and unexpected benefits of learning online pedagogy are shared and discussed. To assess the students’ perception and the study mode and their preferences in this regard, an anonymous, closed-ended, nominal-polytomous questionnaire was conducted, and its findings are analyzed. Further, to compare the students’ preferences as regards study modes depending on the academic discipline, engineering students were contrasted with students studying business as their major. The surveys also provide answers to trends in the longer term in students’ expectations for delivery of programs by higher education institutions.

Opis:: Student uniqueness demands that the teacher/catechist is inventive not only in the learning methods and teaching techniques employed but also in the way content is structured. Only in this way can the teacher ascertain that his/her students’ requirements are met and, consequently, student learning facilitated. However, teachers’ creativity should not mean haphazard choice of methods and techniques. Teaching is both an art and a science. The limitless nature of creativity should be used judiciously and made to bear fruit through the application of knowledge of educational psychology and instructional design. By using Adaptive Religious Education, the teacher may be guided to use different techniques in a methodical manner in order to ensure and enhance student learning. In particular, thesystematic use of different symbol systems can help teachers to improve student learning. The paper will put forward a number of principles and practical suggestions that may guide teachers in planning R.E. lessons.

Opis:: This quasi-experimental study aimed at looking into the effectiveness of blended learning approach in improving the performance in Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) Course of Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) first year students at JBLFMU-Arevalo during the second semester of school year 2018-2019. The respondents of this research were the two sections comparable with each other who were enrolled in the subject ICT. There were 40 student respondents composed of 20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. A validated and reliability-tested 45 item researcher-made multiple choice test was used as an instrument with a Cronbach index of 0.88. The statistical tools used were mean, standard deviation, Mann-Whitney test, and Wilcoxon-Signed ranks test set at .05 level of significance. The effect size was computed to determine the effectiveness of the blended learning approach in terms of students’ performance in ICT. Results showed that in the pretest, though the experimental group had a higher mean score than the control group, the Mann-Whitney test showed that the mean scores of the two groups were comparable because the significant value was greater than .05. When the treatment was introduced, findings showed that there were significant differences in the ICT performance in the pretest and posttest of experimental and control groups as well as in the posttests of both groups. Results inferred that blended learning approach was more than a hundred percent effective showing significant results on the experimental group. It could also be inferred that the better performance of the control group could be attributed to the traditional method of teaching, the lecture method.
