Opis:
Track coalescence is a phenomenon that occurs in multi-target tracking applications where certain types of manoeuvres performed simultaneously by several targets can utterly confuse algorithms that track their positions. In its simplest form, the phenomenon occurs when two similar objects, initially well separated, get close to each other and follow similar manoeuvres for a period of time sufficient to confound the tracking algorithm so that when the objects finally depart from each other the tracking algorithm is prone to provide erroneous estimates. This two-target track coalescence is discussed in this paper with the focus on the compound coalescence, when two identical tracks follow the midpoint of two well separated targets. First, the problem is illustrated on a classic problem of tracking two targets manoeuvring in a clutter, which is modeled as a nonlinear stochastic system. It is shown how, otherwise accurate and precise, estimates obtained by a standard particle filter eventually collapse leading to the coalescence of tracks. The phenomenon is given theoretical explanation by the analysis of Bayesian update operator acting on L2-space of probability densities that reveals that the coalescence is an unavoidable consequence of the probabilistic mixing between distributions describing positions of two targets. Finally, the practical consequences of these theoretical results are discussed together with potential approaches to deal with track coalescence in real applications.

The paper presents a software implementation of multiple model neural filter for radar target tracking. Such a filter may be proposed as an interesting alternative for numerical filters. The main purpose of software implementation is to provide a tool for complex research of the filter possibilities and adjusting options. A concept of a filter is briefly mentioned, however the main body of paper is focused on user-approach detailed description of application with UML use-case diagrams. Examples of detailed presentation of usecases are given and the general use-case diagram for application is included. The application itself is to be an advanced tool for researchers interested in analyzing target tracking process, providing different tracking methods and the possibility of adjusting their parameters. The possibility of simulating any scenario, as well as working with real data (also on-line) was ensured. The research was financed by Polish National Centre of Science under the research project “Development of radar target tracking methods of floating targets with the use of multiple model neural filtering”.

Opis:
Radar target tracking on a sea-going ship is a basic source of information about movement of other vessels, influencing directly safety of navigation. The research on improving of tracking methods has led to a new concept of multiple model neural filtration, which is a combination of multiple model approach with the use of artificial neural networks for the needs of estimation of movement vector. One of the key issue during designing of filter id to establish rules of interaction between elementary filters. The paper presents the most popular methods of manoeuvre detection and interaction of elementary filters in the numerical filtration. The modifications of them for the needs of neural tracking are proposed. Additionally, a concept of use of probabilistic neural network for this purpose is described. The idea was checked in the experimental research with the use of simulation. The result of the research confirmed usefulness of using PNN in multiple model filtration, showing however simultaneously the directions of future research in this. The research was financed by Polish National Centre of Science under the research project “Development of radar target tracking methods of floating targets with the use of multiple model neural filtering”.

In the paper the problem of target tracking in passive radar is addressed. Passive radar measures bistatic parameters of a target: bistatic range and bistatic velocity. The aim of the tracking algorithm is to convert the bistatic measurements into Cartesian coordinates. In the paper a two-stage tracking algorithm is presented, using bistatic and Cartesian tracking. In addition, a target localization algorithm is applied to initialize Cartesian tracks from bistatic measurements. The tracking algorithm is tested using simulated and real data. The real data were obtained from an FM-based passive radar called PaRaDe, developed at Warsaw University of Technology.

This paper presents an algorithm of multisensor decentralized data fusion for radar tracking of maritime targets. The fusion is performed in the space of Kalman Filter and is done by finding weighted average of single state estimates provided be each of the sensors. The sensors use numerical or neural filters for tracking. The article presents two tracking methods - Kalman Filter and General Regression Neural Network, together with the fusion algorithm. The structural and measurement models of moving target are determined. Two approaches for data fusion are stated - centralized and decentralized - and the latter is thoroughly examined. Further, the discussion on main fusing process problems in complex radar systems is presented. This includes coordinates transformation, track association and measurements synchronization. The results of numerical experiment simulating tracking and fusion process are highlighted. The article is ended with a summary of the issues pointed out during the research.

The article presents issues connected with association of radar and AIS targets in the process of integration of this two systems. Theoretical analysis of the problem has been carried out. IMO requirements has been depicted and included in three association criteria proposed, which sequentially implemented in the algorithm allow firm association of radar and AIS targets. The general condition for association has been presented and it has been subsequently detailed for each criterion. As the basic test association of the position has been taken and it can be supplemented by association of movement vector and history of association in the furtherer steps. In each case the association gate has been defined. The sizes of gates, which allow to consider chosen criterion as fulfilled has been determined by analysis. The presented association algorithms may be used as the first step of radar–AIS integration to lead to multisensory vector fusion in the consecutive steps
W artykule przedstawiono problematykę związaną z asocjacją obiektów radarowych i AIS w ramach procesu integracji tych dwóch systemów. Zaprezentowane algorytmy asocjacji mogą stanowić pierwszy etap integracji obiektów śledzonych przez radar i AIS, aby w kolejnych doprowadzić do fuzji wektorów z obu systemów.

Opis:
Closest point of approach (CPA) is a basic factor taken into consideration for risk assessment during the meeting of two ships at sea. Navigators should use radars with automatic target tracking for collision avoidance and should know the accuracy to which radar data are calculated. Basic information about these requirements can be found in IMO resolutions. The currently binding document for devices manufactured after 2008 is IMO Resolution MSC.192(79). But there are two independent requirements for relative motion. One of these refers to relative motion parameters (relative course and speed) and the other one to the value that is the result of this motion (CPA). The other important document is Standard 62388. This specifies the minimum operational and performance requirements, methods of testing and the required test results published by IEC and also refers to radar equipment. However, this standard is not so popular in different publications focusing on radar equipment, so these requirements were not analyzed in the article. The main problem described in this paper refers to the mutual consistency of IMO Resolution requirements. The results of simulations and their analysis are presented.

Opis:
Underwater localization and tracking is a challenging problem and Time-of-Arrival and Time-Difference-of-Arrival approaches are commonly used. However, the performance difference between these approaches is not well understood or analysed adequately. There are some analytical studies for terrestrial applications with the assumption that the signal arrival times are not correlated. However, this assumption is not valid for underwater propagation. To present the distinct nature of the problem under the water, a high-fidelity simulation is required. In this study, Time-of-Arrival and Time-Difference-of-Arrival approaches are compared using a ray tracing based propagation model. Moreover, basic methods to mitigate the multipath propagation problem are also implemented for Bernoulli filters. Since the Bernoulli filter is a joint detection and tracking filter, the detection performance is also analysed. Comparisons are done for all combinations of filter and measurement approaches. The results can help to design underwater localization systems better suited to the needs.

This paper details a proposal for the position control system of a two-axis ship-mounted tracker. Aspects of the non-linear dynamics governing Line-Of-Sight (LOS) errors between the tracker and the target are presented. It is shown that the regulation of LOS errors can be achieved by introducing a feed-forward term based on the target’s velocity. This velocity is not measurable, and an estimator is required. Given that the tracking problem is non-linear, the classical separation principle does not hold, and cascading the estimator and regulator together may not lead to an optimal position control system. The ‘LQAdaptive’ system proposed here aims therefore to improve conformity to the separation principle. Simulation trials show that tracking is improved under the LQAdaptive system in comparison to a simple estimator-regulator structure.

Object tracking based on Siamese networks has achieved great success in recent years, but increasingly advanced trackers are also becoming cumbersome, which will severely limit deployment on resource-constrained devices. To solve the above problems, we designed a network with the same or higher tracking performance as other lightweight models based on the SiamFC lightweight tracking model. At the same time, for the problems that the SiamFC tracking network is poor in processing similar semantic information, deformation, illumination change, and scale change, we propose a global attention module and different scale training and testing strategies to solve them. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, this paper has done comparative experiments on the ILSVRC, OTB100, VOT2018 datasets. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper can significantly improve the performance of the benchmark algorithm.

Opis:
The tracking filter plays a key role in accurate estimation and prediction of maneuvering vessel’s position and velocity. Different methods are used for tracking. However, the most commonly used method is the Kalman filter and its modifications. The Alpha-Beta-Gamma filter is one of the special cases of the general solution pro-vided by the Kalman filter. It is a third order filter that computes the smoothed estimates of position, velocity and acceleration for the nth observation, and also predicts the next position and velocity. Although found to track a maneuvering target with a good accuracy than the constant velocity, Alpha-Beta filter, the Alpha-Beta-Gamma filter does not perform impressively under high maneuvers such as when the target is undergoing changing accelerations. This study, therefore, aims to track a highly maneuvering target experiencing jerky motions due to changing accelerations. The Alpha-Beta-Gamma filter is extended to include the fourth state that is, constant jerk to correct the sudden change of acceleration in order to improve the filter’s performance. Results obtained from simulations of the input model of the target dynamics under consideration indicate an improvement in performance of the jerky model, Alpha-Beta-Gamma-Eta, algorithm as compared to the constant acceleration model, Alpha-Beta-Gamma in terms of error reduction and stability of the filter during target maneuver.
