    From Italy to Poland. Old Polish translations of Italian drama Abstract The text discusses the most important problems raised in Jadwiga Miszalska’s book The Songof the Tragic Playthings Teaches us Virtue: Translations from Italian as a Source for PolishSerious Drama till the end of the 18th Century (Kraków, 2013). The author drew attention tothe place that the translation from Italian takes in the Polish culture and literature and notedthe fact, that choice of texts for translation, the way of reading, the changes to which thetranslators of the Italian dramaturgy decided have become a source of knowledge about thehistory of literature, literary trends and reading (and scenic) expectations of the time.     (Nie)przetłumaczalne przetłumaczone: Tłumaczenia literackie na Słowacji. Dydaktyczne wdrażanie komponentu przekładu literackiego do programu nauczania niderlandystyki: Case study Bratysława W 2014 r. Katedra Germanistyki, Niderlandystyki i Języków Skandynawskich na Wydziale Humanistycznym Uniwersytetu Komeńskiego w Bratysławie została skonfrontowana z nowymi reformami akredytacyjnymi. Niektóre kluczowe punkty programów studiów musiały zatem zostać poddane ponownej ocenie i dostosowane do nowych wymagań w zakresie pracy przyszłych tłumaczy ustnych i pisemnych. Tłumaczenia prawnicze i użytkowe, jak również instytucjonalny komponent procesu przekładu pozostały wśród najważniejszych elementów programu nauczania. Mimo to reformy akredytacyjne zapewniły również możliwość ponownego przyjrzenia się curriculum akademickiemu pod kątem przekładu literackiego. W swoich tekstach (Bossaert 2015b, 2015e) wspominałem już wcześniej o kilku projektach dotyczących literatury i kultury, organizowanych przez niderlandystów z Bratysławy. Były to przeważnie prace grupowe i publikacje przygotowane przez studentów pod kierunkiem wykładowców. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia podstawowe zasady teoretyczne kursów literatury niderlandzkiej w programie studiów. Czterosemestralny kurs ma na celu rozwijanie głębszego przygotowania literackiego za pomocą nauczania o literaturze, począwszy od najstarszej. Proponujemy wdrożenie sieci Petra-E oraz Europejskiego Systemu Opisu Tłumaczeń Literackich w celu poprawy warsztatu przyszłych tłumaczy literatury. Liczymy na dalszą współpracę z Niderlandzką Unią Językową oraz na wsparcie ze strony innych instytucji, takich jak m.in. Expertisecentrum Literair Vertalen (ELV, Centrum Eksperckie Przekładu Literackiego), które mogą nam na Słowacji w niedalekiej przyszłości dać pomoc potrzebną do intensywnego rozwoju tłumaczeń literackich z języka niderlandzkiego. Het (on)vertaalde vertaald: Literair vertalen in Slowakije. Didactische implementatie van een component literair vertalen in een curriculum neerlandistiek: Case study Bratislava De leerstoel Duitse, Nederlandse en Scandinavische studies aan de Faculteit Geesteswetenschappen van de Univerzita Komenského te Bratislava werd in 2014 geconfronteerd met nieuwe accreditatiehervormingen. Sommige hoofdpunten van de studieprogramma‘s moesten daarom opnieuw worden geëvalueerd en aangepast aan nieuwe eisen op het gebied van werk van toekomstige tolken en vertalers. De component juridische, professionele en institutionele vertaling behoort in ons studiecurriculum tot de belangrijkste aandachtspunten. Desondanks verschaften de accreditatiehervormingen ook ruimte om het curriculum te heroverwegen naar literaire vertaling. We vermeldden al in Bossaert (2015b, 2015c) een paar projecten rond literatuur en cultuur, georganiseerd door de sectie Nederlands in Bratislava, meestal groepswerk en publicaties gemaakt door studenten, begeleid door hun leraren. In deze bijdrage willen we de theoretische basisprincipes van de Nederlandse literatuuronderwerpen in het curriculum presenteren. Vier semesters van Nederlandse literatuur zijn gericht op het opbouwen van een verfijnde literaire voorbereiding van de studenten d.m.v. didactiek van literatuur, te beginnen met de oudste literatuur. We stellen voor om het Petra-E-netwerk en het Europese kader voor literaire vertaling te implementeren om de capaciteiten van toekomstige literaire vertalers te verbeteren. De Nederlandse Taalunie en de ELV, het expertisecentrum voor literaire vertaling, zouden ons samen met andere institutionele ondersteuning in de nabije toekomst nuttige hulp kunnen bieden om het gebied van de Nederlandse literaire vertaling in Slowakije te verbreden.
    The department of German, Dutch and Scandinavian studies at the Philosophical Faculty was in 2014 facing its last accreditation reforms. Certain key courses of the study programmes were therefore to be reevaluated and adjusted according to new demands created by the job market in the field of translation and interpreting. Although legal, professional and institutional translation has already been a vital aspect of our study curriculum, the accreditation reforms provided an opportunity to redesign the curriculum with more focus on literary translation. As already mentioned in Bossaert (2015b, 2015c) the Dutch section of the department in Bratislava launched a number of projects constructed around literature and culture. The lecturers organised and supervides group-translation workshops for students and the outputs of the workshops were published. The aim of this contribution is to present the basic theoretical principles of the Dutch literature courses in the curriculum. After compelting the four-semester course of Dutch literature the students have an extensive knowledge of the subject matter and are ready to use it in practice. We propose to implement the Petra-E network and the European Framework of Literary translation in order to improve the capability of future literary translators. The Dutch language union and the ELV, The Expertise centre of literary translation, as well as other institutional support could provide us useful help in the near future to broaden the field of Dutch literary translation in Slovakia.

    Between the years 1990 and 2006, about 50 Polish books (poetry, prose and drama) were translated in already independent Slovenia, also a lot of single poems, short stories and fragments of more substantial compositions. Slovene macrochoices from Polish literature on the one hand constitute continuation of the traditional presence in the Slovene culture, on the other hand they result from increasing language and encyclopedic competencies of the translators. The choices are defined by four criteria: Polishness, empathy, the desire to get to know the Polish mentality, the historically‑literal process and personal motivation. The authors of choices and translations of Polish literature are translators belonging to many generations, differently evaluating the needs of a Slovene reader and the character of Polish literature and mentality. Although Polish literature is distinctly present in the Slovene literary life, in the Slovene choices from it dominates perspective of strangeness, with which translators from different generations familiarise the native recepient, choosing works belonging to the canon and often to the opposite pole.
    V letih 1990—2006 je bilo v že samostojni Sloveniji prevedenih okoli 50 poljskih knjig (s področij poezije, proze in dramatike), ob tem pa še veliko posameznih pesmi in pripovedi ter fragmentov večjih literarnih enot. V teh slovenskih izborih poljske literature lahko po eni strani vidimo nadaljevanje njene tradicionalne navzočnosti v slovenski kulturi, po drugi pa izhajajo iz čedalje širših jezikovno‑enciklopedijskih kompetenc prevajalcev. Opredeljujejo jih (izbore) štirje kriteriji: poljskost, empatija, potreba po spoznanju poljske mentalitete in literarnozgodovinskega procesa ter osebna motivacija. Avtorji izborov in prevodov poljske literature so prevajalci, ki pripadajo različnim rodovom in imajo različne poglede na potrebe slovenskega bralca in značaj poljske literature ter mentalitete. Čeprav pripada poljski literaturi v slovenskem literarnem življenju opazno mesto, prevajalske izbore iz nje narekuje opažanje drugačnosti, ki jo prevajalci različnih generacij domačemu prejemniku približujejo skozi izbor del, pripadajočih kanonu, pogosto pa tudi z besedili s slednjemu prav nasprotnega pola.

    The article surveys the last twenty years of the presence of Polish literature in the Czech Republic. The study focuses on the types and genres of literary texts translated into Czech, the total number of translations published in the period under discussion, as well as typical publishing practices and the network of support offered by Polish cultural institutions. Furthermore, the article offers some insight into the publishing industry and book market in the Czech Republic. The author examines the position of translators from Polish in this industry and the extent of their influence on what is published and how. The quantitative analysis presented in the article sheds light on certain prevalent trends, such as the rising popularity of Polish non-fiction books and the unique status of Polish fantasy literature. Investigating these trends further, the author aims to answer the question of whether the relatively high number of books translated from Polish and currently available on the Czech market is indicative of an actual rise of general interest in Polish literature.

    The study analyzes lexemes and word combinations of colloquial style, slang and low colloquial language, performs their comparative analysis at word level, looks into the transformational patterns that the structures undergo during literary translation into English and Russian, and discusses the advantages and flaws of the applied translation strategies through suggesting adequate translation solutions. In the article, the argument is made that the translation strategies of substandard lexis reflect the interdisciplinary nature of expressive meaning and connotation which can be conveyed differently through various language levels during literary translation.
    Badanie analizuje leksemy i kombinacje słów w stylu potocznym, slangu i języku potocznym, przeprowadza ich analizę porównawczą na poziomie słów, analizuje wzorce transformacyjne, które ulegają zmianom podczas tłumaczenia literackiego na język angielski i rosyjski oraz omawia zalety i wady stosowanych strategii tłumaczeniowych, sugerując odpowiednie rozwiązania tłumaczeniowe. W artykule argumentuje się, iż strategie tłumaczenia leksykonu poniżej normy odzwierciedlają interdyscyplinarny charakter ekspresyjnego znaczenia i konotacji, które mogą być przekazywane w różny sposób na różnych poziomach językowych podczas tłumaczenia literackiego.
