    Opis:
    The paper presents the profile of an outstanding researcher of the country-wide and a deserved activist of the People’s Movement who was closely related to the prominent figure of this movement i.e. Wincenty Witos. So far, information about life and activity of that scholar was scarce and came only from dictionary publishers. This text, however, puts special focus not only on Professors’ scientific achievements, but also on his dramatic fate during the Stalinist period. Similar to many persecuted people at those times, in order to resume his research career he had to conceal his past as a People’s Movement activist, agrarian and supporter of liberal-democratic system.

    Opis:
    An investigation of the influence of slip-ring waviness on current distribution in the sliding contact with several brushes connected in parallel has been the objective of the paper. The authors have presented their own measurement results of slip-ring waviness and have made decomposition of this waviness into harmonic components. The authors' model of the sliding contact with two mechanical degrees of freedom (published earlier) has been used for calculations. This model takes into consideration nonlinear visco-elastic interactions among the brush, the slip-ring and the brush holder. The results of calculations of radial vibrations of the brush were used to determine the resistance of the transition between the brush and the slip-ring. A nonlinear dependence of this transition resistance R(sp) has been proposed. It is assumed that R(sp) is a function of current flowing through the brush and of the distance between the sliding surfaces of the brush and the slip-ring. Several simplifying assumptions had to be adopted while deriving this dependence. Necessity of simplifications is a result of complexity of the problem as well as the lack of some essential parameter data in literature. On the basis of the sliding contact model with a single brush the authors have worked out an electromechanical model of the whole sliding contact of a synchronous machine with parallel brushes. This model allows for determination of current distribution in the sliding contact during transient states and for steady states. The angular speed and the excitation current can be a time dependant forcing. Simulation results of the influence of the waviness amplitude spectrum on current distribution in the sliding contact have been shown.

    Omówiono badania funkcjonalne i energetyczne aktywnego narzędzia pielęgnacyjnego, wyposażonego w elementy robocze wykonane ze szczotek z polipropylenu. Ocenę jakości pracy pielnika szczotkowego przeprowadzono na plantacjach kukurydzy, pora, kapusty i selera. Badania wykazały dużą przydatność pielnika szczotkowego do pielęgnacji upraw polowych, a tym samym spełnienie wymagań funkcjonalnych i jakości pracy. Uzyskane wskaźniki jakości pracy narzędzia wskazują na jego szczególną przydatność dla gospodarstw ekologicznych, w których nieodzowna jest mechaniczna pielęgnacja upraw. Pielnik szczotkowy pod względem zapotrzebowania energetycznego może współpracować z ciągnikami rolniczymi klasy 0,6-0,9.
    The study dealt with the functionality, operation quality and the power input of an active implement for plant cultivation (weeding), equipped with working elements made of poly-propylene brushes. Operation quality of the brush hoe was tested on maize, leek, cabbage and celery plantations. The results showed that the brush implement is very useful at field crop cultivation and it fulfills the requirements of functionality and work quality. Obtained indices of operation quality for the hoe indicate that the implement is particularly useful in ecological farms, where mechanical plant cultivation (weeding) is necessary. As far as the power demand is concerned, the brush hoe may cooperate with the tractors of 0.6-0.9 class.

    W artykule przedstawiono nową metodę oceny komutacji opierającą się nie na doświadczeniu obserwatora a na wskazaniach opracowanego optoelektronicznego analizatora iskrzenia wspomaganego systemem komputerowym. Analizator umożliwia kontrolę identyfikacji poszczególnych działek komutatora, kontrolę obwodu komutatora z punktu widzenia nierówności każdej indywidualnej działki, kontrolę prędkości obrotowej, wybór czasu trwania cyklu pomiarowego, ocenę iskrzenia poszczególnych działek komutatora, kontrolę iskrzenia każdej działki w każdym kolejnym obrocie cyklu pomiarowego.
    Computer aided optoelectronic analyzer of sparking is a device to be used for the identification of sparking of individual commutator sections, for the registration of sparking intensity, and for direct processing of the registered signals. The results obtained by means of the analyzer confornted witch numerical calculations of current in commutating coils (detailed parameters of a machine known) confirm good applicability of the analyzer to comparatively "objective" assessement of commutation quality of d.c.machines. Meter circuit of the analyzer that operates contactlees with regard to the tested machine ensures its immunity to parasite interference of electromagnetic character caused by commutation phenomenon. Electronic systems and wide-band amplifiers process the observed spark light spectrum into output electrical signals proportionally to the sparking intensity. The spectrum of the registered light signals well corresponds to the impression of human eyes observing brush sparking that used to be the basis for subjective assesment of communication quality.
