Opis:
Alluvial soils, which are found under the grasslands in the study area, are formed by erosive and sedimentation activity of waters from surface and river flows. These waters in river valleys, depending on the activity duration, flow speed and the frequency of overflows, determine the spatial distribution of sediments, the variability of their mechanical composition, as well as the layers thickness, the content of organic matter and the diversity of the lay of alluvial material areas. The mentioned factors have significant influence on the structure of soil profile and on the elements circulation in the trophic chain: soil – water – plant – animal – human. The aim of the study was the typological identification of soils in the floodplain of the Warta estuary valley, as well as the characterization of their basic physical and chemical features, with the special consideration to contamination with heavy metals. Moreover, the chemical content of the plant communities in the study area was described. The studies were conducted in the Warta valley on the passage between Świerkocin and Kłopotowo, on grasslands which are part of the right flood terrace of the valley, between the water surface and the levee (floodbank). Objects of varied habitat conditions and vegetation were isolated on the chosen area for the specific research .The characterization of soil conditions was performed according to the methods commonly used in pedology. Based on the description of morphological features of soil pits, the following subtypes of alluvial soils were distinguished: heavy humus, medium brown, actual medium, actual very light. Shaped plant communities were qualified to the following floristic types: Glyceria maxima, Phalaris arundinacea, Poa trivialis, Poa pratensis, Festuca rubra and Corynephorus cannescens. The analyzed soils were evaluated as rich in general forms: P, K, Mg, Ca, Na i S. Compacted soils were usually rich in absorbable phosphorus, the content of absorbable magnesium was from very low to high, while in very light soils the content of phosphorus and magnesium was law. Regardless of the soil type, the content of absorbable potassium found in all soil samples was very low. The analyzed soils had the natural content of heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, Mn, Fe), only in surface layer of heavy humus alluvial soil high contamination with cadmium and raised contamination with zinc were found. Varied content of macroelements was found in the grassland sward of the individual study points. The richest in P, K, Mg, Ca and Na was the community of rough bluegrass (Poa trivialis), located on river actual medium alluvial soil in the vicinity of embankment and subject to the constant flooding of Warta. The poorest in the analyzed heavy metals were the communities of Poa pratensis and Festuca rubra with Corynephorus cannescens on actual very light alluvial soil. Only in case of lead, high content in the sward of Phalaris arundinacea formed on actual medium alluvial soil near the water surface was found. As regards other heavy metals there was no excess of their content in the grassland sward of the studied area.

Opis:
The aim of the project is to present the role of the plant in effective complementary seeding of grasslands. Two groups of issues were distinguished. The first group is associated with the plant introduced by means of complementary seeding – criteria of species and variety selection, factors affecting sprouting, emergence as well as the growth and development of seedlings. The second group comprises problems associated with the influence of primary vegetation, plants present in the sward of grasslands which are being oversown - plant compatibility and restriction of their effect on seedlings. The paper is the result of studies of literature and own investigations on grassland renovation and, first of all of the author's own considerations. The role of the plant in the process of grassland renovation by complementary seeding is very important. It cannot be limited to the selection of species or cultivar of plants sown under. There is a whole domain of plant properties, beginning with the phase of sprouting and emergence to the stage of full feed utilisation which play a decisive role in the effectiveness of the sod seeding process. Furthermore, this effectiveness is also influenced by the sward vegetation itself into which the introduced species or cultivars are sown. Studies on sod seeding in Poland have continued for a long time, albeit with varying intensity and influenced by altering current technical possibilities. Complementary seeding defined as a method of grassland renovation already seems to be a thing of the past. In future it will be more and more treated as a managing treatment of meadows and pastures similar to fertilisation or irrigation. Pro-ecological character of oversowing and overdrilling rnakes this treatment applicable not only on grasslands but also on objects not connected with forage utilisation, such as lawns and marginal areas. This operation may well serve to increase floristic diversity of meadows, but equally importantly it can be used to re-introduce lost species and reconstruction of grass communities. There are high expectations concerning the plant as the key element in the process of cornplementary seeding. The important question is whether the issue of oversowing and overdrilling is also taken under consideration in the process of breeding work and seed production.

Opis:
Since their discovery in 1927 the cemetaries of the Paracas region of southern Peru have yielded a great number of textiles dating from the beginning of the Christian era. The author of the present article describes one of them representing an embroidered Paracas Necropolis mantle from the Royal Ontario Museum of Toronto. The term „mantle” refers here to a large rectangular cloak. Although unfinished, it reveals much about the technical details, planning and execution of the design. When found, the specimen was in poor condition, about one third of the total fabric having rotted completely away. One half of the remaining portion was rotted and torn in many places, yet enough remained so the original size and the intended plan of the embroidery could be determined. The autor tries to follow, in mus detail, a technique of making the mantle, its size, a design embroised (the design is composed of large condors with outstreched wings, heads in profile, repeated with the alternate birds reversed. Between the large birds are two smaller birds of the same kind, one at the top of the border and one at the lower edge), the colour repeat system as well as a kind of yarn used and other details. There seems to be no doubt that a number of people were employed on the mantle because of the differences in the execution of the work as well as variations in the shape and placement of the designs and in their measurements. All of the workers must have had a clear idea of the over-all design conception and then each one set to work on an assigned section. A reasonable assumption is also that the mantle was stretched on some kind of frame at a sufficient height from the ground to allow the workers to sit on the ground with their legs extending under the frame. The final problem discussed by the auhor is the method of the mantle’s reconstruction, and the main issues resulting from the article are as follows: — the initial embroidery seems to have been the reconstruction of the side borders but without attempting even to outline the sections where this turned at ends, — the work on the borders seems to have proceded in a clockwise direction, — several persons were employed in the embroidery, — filling in of the body colours was done irregularly, but followed a planned repeat sequence and probably was not started until all outlines were completed, — filling in of details where additional colours were to be used was apparently left until all major colours were filled, — it seems th a t none of the birds in the central field are a were to be filled in untill all had been outlined. All this would have minimized errors; it was only a reasonable precaution, — the addition fo knit-stem stitch ediging was not the final step in production. Because of its unfinished state and condition of poor preservation it was decided th a t the mantle was not to be used for display purposes only. Anyway, it would undoubtedly be of more interest to the student th an to the general public. Therefore the cloak was prepared finally in such a way th a t it could be rolled up for storage and easily unrolled for study purposes and could be displayed when desired.

Opis:
As a result of a high degree of natural environment transformation in the neighbourhood of Szadek the variety of forms of nature protection is rather limited in this area. There is a nature reserve 'Jamno' with an area of 22.56 ha established in 1959 to protect the fir and oak forest at the northerly limit of the area where the fir-tree is found. In old manor and village parks there are some very old trees – the register of nature monuments within the communes lists 24 such trees. There also are some areas of plants with protected status – about 45 species of plants designated as rare or threatened with extinction. Preservation of the natural environment in the commune requires long-range action, including both legal regulation and promotion of ecological awareness.

Opis:
Przeanalizowano wpływ szaty roślinnej na różnicowanie bilansu radiacyjnego powierzchni rolniczych. Pod uwagę wzięto dwie kontrastowe powierzchnie: trawiastą (łąka) i nieporośniętą roślinnością (stale przekopywany ugór). Opracowano materiał pomiarowy z badań aktynometrycznych prowadzonych w roku 2009 w Obserwatorium Agro- i Hydrometeorologii Uniwersytetu Przyrodniczego Wrocław-Swojec. Wykorzystano dane pochodzące z ciągłej rejestracji gęstości strumienia całkowitego promieniowania słonecznego K↓, gęstości strumienia promieniowania odbitego od powierzchni trawy i ugoru K↑, gęstości strumienia promieniowania zwrotnego atmosfery L↓ i gęstości strumienia promieniowania powierzchni bez roślin i porośniętej trawą L↑.
There is analyzed plant cover impact on the differentiation of agriculture surfaces net radiation. Two contrasting surfaces: grass and bare soil are taken to consideration. There analysed data were collected from actinometrical measurements in 2009 in the Wroclaw-Swojec Agro- and Hydrometeorology Observatory belonging to Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. There are used data from permanent registration of flux intensity of: global solar radiation K↓, reflected solar radiation K↑, incoming long-wave radiation L↓ and outgoing long-wave radiation L↑. Contrasting physical and biological features of considered agriculture surfaces have an important influence on the differentiation of their radiation properties (absorption and emission). As a result there are legible differences in synchronically values of measured radiation parameters from these surfaces. The analysis were concentrated on showing these differences and their reason. Particular attention is paid on differences in daily and monthly global solar radiation averages and their the most important components. Topoclimatic effects of these radiation differences were discussed.

Opis:
Traditional rural landscapes have long been shaped by the subsistence farming adapted to local environmental conditions (climate, soils, topography, etc.), underpinned by traditional institutions (family, parish, communal councils, the rule of land heredity, etc.), and secured by the common system of values and norms. Such biocultural complexes were providing an intrinsic network of habitats interconnected by the traditional land multiple use systems. Securing relative dynamic stability throughout centuries, the rural landscapes have become a very efficient „time capsule‟ of Europe‟s terrestrial biodiversity. At the same time, they are a living memory, a tangible footprint of the past generations, and thus, a place where a contemporary man can understand his ancestors, and rediscover the truth of himself. Alas, the progressing urbanization of societies decouples them from the landscapes of their origin. Urban dwellers eagerly get involved in conservation advocacy campaigns focused on often far-away „virgin forests‟, while their own urbia keep sprawling and consuming the rich traditional countryside. Such cultural severance threatens not only the diversity and beauty of abandoned and neglected landscapes but also our own sense of identity.
