Opis:
Two new species of centrohelid heliozoans Acanthocystis costata and Choanocystis symna from a freshwater lake on Valamo Island and a freshwater pool in St. Petersburg (North-Western Russia) were studied with light and electron microscopy. Sequences of 18S rDNA were obtained for both species. Choanocystis symna has dumbbell-shaped plate scales (4.4–5.0 × 1.62–1.90 µm) and spine scales (3.9–6.7 µm) bearing from 3 to 5 (usually four) short teeth on the distal end. Acanthocystis costata has oval plate scales (1.3–3.7 × 0.9–1.9 µm), bearing numerous granules as well as radial slits and spine scales (2.1–9.5 µm) with 4–6 teeth on the distal end. Acanthocystis costata and Acanthocystis nichollsi are similar in having slit-bearing plate scales and group together on the 18S rDNA tree. The presence of large particles of unknown nature was observed in food vacuoles of Acanthocystis costata.

The plesiosoricids from two fissure fillings from Möhren on the Franconian in South Germany are described. All belong to Butselia biveri. Möhren 12 correlates with the early Oligocene standard level Soumailles, corresponding to the Paleogene mammal unit MP 21, and Möhren 13 with the standard level Villebramar, which corresponds to MP 22. These occurrences represent the first record of the genus Butselia in Germany. A review of the known plesiosoricid species and a cladistic analysis of Butselia and Plesiosorex are presented. It shows the basal position of Butselia with respect to Plesiosorex, and the basal position of Plesiosorex soricinoides with respect to the other Plesiosorex species.

The results of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS2) of extrachromosomal rDNA and the chloroplast SSU rDNA sequence analysis presented here confirmed elevated genetic polymorphism revealed earlier by RFLP and RAPD for seven clones of the cosmopolitan species - Euglena agilis Carter. High diversity among these clonal strains was not reflected by morphological criteria, with the exception of the only one character - the ability of the cell in its non-motile dividing states (palmella) to produce mucus and form a slimy envelope. Evolutionary adaptation as formation of slimy envelope may be attributed to different survival strategy of the species by which it adapts to life in a highly variable environment.

Opis:
The morphology of pollen grains of 16 species from the Rosa L. genus were studied (i.e. R. agrestis, R. canina, R. dumalis, R. gallica, R. inodora, R. jundzillii, R. kostrakiewiczii, R. majalis, R. micrantha, R. mollis, R. pendulina, R. rubiginosa, R. sherardii, R. tomentosa, R. villosa, and R. zalana). The material came from 16 native localities of those species in Poland. The measurements are based on at least 30-50 randomly selected, fully developed pollen grains per specimen. In total, 500 pollen grains were examined. They were analysed for 13 quantitative features of pollen grains and exine sculpturing and the following qualitative traits: outline, shape, "operculum" structure. The diagnostic features of pollen grains of studied species were: length of polar and equatorial axes and length of ectocolpi. The above-mentioned pollen grain morphological features make isolation of one species possible: R. gallica. R. gallica is distinguished for its highest values of the length of polar and equatorial axes, and the length of ectocolpi. The obtained analytical results of operculum and exine sculpture features, considered as diagnostic, corroborated only slightly their priority significance for the isolation of the examined species and sections. The collected data failed to confirm fully the current taxonomical division of the Rosa genus into sections (only section Gallicanae from R. gallica is isolated) as well as consanguinity relationships between the examined species from the Caninae section. On the dendrogram, both species closely related with each other as well as those from other developmental lines were found in the same group. These equivocal results are by no means surprising because the Caninae section is the most polymorphic group in the Rosa genus, and contemporary Caninae are of the nature of a swarm of R. canina hybrids as a link combining all taxons of the section.

Opis:
A new fossil lacewing, Tenuosmylus brevineurus gen. et sp. nov., was collected from an outcrop of Middle Jurassic strata in the village of Daohugou, Inner Mongolia, China. The new genus is assigned to Gumillinae based on eleven defining characteristics of the subfamily. The affiliation of Tenuosmylus including other five genera of the subfamily is discussed. Our result supports the opinion that Epiosmylinae was a junior synonym of Gumillinae, which is likely a relic of ancient osmylids based on similarity of forewing venation. Veins Mp₂ and Cu₂ have complicated branches that are generally present in extinct as well as some extant subfamilies (Poriminae, Eidoporisminae, Stenosmylinae). A key is given to differentiate six known genera within Gumillinae.

Opis:
Dictyopteran assemblages (cockroaches, mantises and termites) from Mongolia were uniform, being composed of the same genera throughout the Early Cretaceous (more than 30 million years), corresponding to the “dry and warm Baissa type” assemblages from Siberia. The assemblage from Shin−Khuduk is exceptional, consisting of a single identifiable blattulid species, Vrtula sama gen. et sp. nov. Assemblages from Eastern Erdenyi−Ula, Khurilt, Kholbotu−Gol, and Shar−Tologoy are composed of species already known from the richest Lower Cretaceous locality Bon Tsagaan, but species representation in the various assemblages differs considerably. Nuurcala srneci sp. nov. from Khurilt Bed 210/24, with a forewing length under 12 mm, is the smallest and best−studied example of the cosmopolitan Mesozoic family Caloblattinidae. The last occurrence of the predominantly Palaeozoic family Phyloblattidae is reported from Bon Tsagaan.

Opis:
The radial trace fossil Dactyloidites peniculus occurs in a deep tier in totally bioturbated shoreface sediments of Pliocene age in the Stirone Valley, N Italy, together with Thalassinoides isp. and Ophiomorpha nodosa. Long, narrow shafts running from centre of the radiating structure and abundant faecal pellets in the radial structure were discovered. The trace maker of D. peniculus, probably a polychaete, deposited the pellets deeply in the sediment, probably for reinforcement of the tubes and a gardening of microbes for feeding. This trace fossil exclusively occurs within a narrow horizon at the top of a shallowing−up section interpreted as a high−stand system tract, below a discontinuity surface capped by finer sediments. D. peniculus was formed in soft sandy sediments under stable conditions related to the latest phases of the highstand system tract. Therefore, it is a candidate for indication of similar environmental situations having a soft sandy, but stable sea floor.

The fossil record of Paleozoic ophiuroids includes a number of forms which share striking similarities with modern relatives in terms of skeletal morphology. These so called modern-type Paleozoic ophiuroids yield an enormous potential for a better understanding of ophiuroid evolution, yet the scarcity of accurate and sufficiently detailed morphological descriptions available to date precludes any further-reaching assessments. Here, we describe an articulated ophiuroid specimen from the Late Tournaisian (early Carboniferous) of Czatkowice quarry, southern Poland, as a new species Aganaster jagiellonicus sp. nov. The good preservation of the specimen allowed for a morphological analysis at a level comparable to recent ophiuroid descriptions. It shows remarkable morphological similarities with extant former ophio-lepidids Ophiomusium and Ophiosphalma. The new find thus contributes to a solid basis for future investigations on the position of the modern-type Paleozoic ophiuroid in the phylogeny of the class.

This study presents detailed systematics of quality assessment methods for marketing organizations diving it into three groups: qualitative, quantitative and qualitative-quantitative (mixed) methods. The first group includes methods such as: marketing audit, marketing excellence evaluation and review oftheethical and social responsibility of the organization. The second group is: sales analysis, market share analysis, impact analysis with marketing expenditures on sales area, financial analysis, profitability and efficiency control, marketing effectiveness ranking and observation on customer satisfaction. The last group includes methods: balanced scorecard and marketing benchmark. Approach towards assessing the quality of organization's marketing activities requires using one particular method. Due to big number of existing methods for assessing the quality of marketing activities, a question arises: which one will allow us fully assess the activity.

Opis:
The study examines the position of inheritance in the systematics of Institutiones of Gaius and discusses the significance of such approach to inheritance law in the subsequent development of private law. In Institutiones of Gaius issues related to succession account for approximately 1/3 of the entire contents. Presentation of matters connected with inheritance comprises a larger part of the second book (G. 2, 99–289) focusing on various legal aspects of testate succession (G. 2, 100–190) and the related acquisition of material benefits at the expense of the legacy, through endowments (G. 2, 192–289); additionally, the beginning of the third book comprised rules of intestate succession (G. 3, 1–87). While analysing the specific problems associated with succession, Gaius presents them as examples of property rights acquisition under general and specific terms. Similar approach to inheritance in Rome was also adopted in Institutiones of Justinian. It was only the German Pandectists that distinguished succession law as a separate segment of law. However, the nineteenth century European civil codes in their contents and systematics make reference to the three-fold distinction of law (personae – res – actiones) introduced by Gaius in his Institutiones. For instance the Civil Code of Austria (ABGB) did not treat succession law as a separate segment of law but, following the systematics in the Institutes of Gaius, as a part of property law related to acquisition of ownership rights per universitatem. Similar approach was adopted in Napoleonic Code where matters related to succession were contained in Book Three, entitled "Of the Different Modes of Acquiring Property".

While the marine molluscs from Sarmatian deposits of the Carpathian Foredeep Basin are known in general, there is a paucity of data on the terrestrial gastropods. Recently, a rich assemblage of terrestrial snails, accompanied by freshwater species, was found in Zwierzyniec, in the north-western, marginal part of the Carpathian Foredeep. Among the 38 taxa recognised, there are 22 species found in Poland for the first time; a new clausiliid species Triloba magurkai Stworzewicz sp. nov. is described. Freshwater gastropods (nine Lymnaeidae species and two Planorbidae species) were presented elsewhere. The malacofauna comprises aquatic and typical hygrophilous elements from coastal wetland habitats, some xerophilous species from dry, open environments, and gastropods from an adjacent subtropical woodland.
