    This paper presents empirical results on the functional performance of freight villages as supply chain interfaces. Moreover, it provides an overview of the current state of research on how freight villages contribute to an enhancement of supply chain performance. Databank research was conducted to review internationally published literature and existing research was evaluated based on relevant international contributions. Furthermore, a questionnaire was constructed to carry out an explorative study of freight villages in Germany. The functional performance of the investigated freight villages showed that there is a strong need to attach greater importance to the fulfilment of functions targeting on the streamlining of logistical processes within supply chains and the integration of value-adding services at supply chain interfaces. Results from this study provide insight into the potential performance of freight villages as supply chain interfaces. Therefore it is necessary to put intelligent multimodal transport chains into practice and to provide powerful logistical and value-adding services to achieve greater flexibility of adjustment to changing demand and a higher delivery service level. This paper contributes to the state of research by identifying a gap between the functional performance postulated in literature and the practical performance of freight villages. Moreover, it provides implications for closing this gap to implement high-performing interfaces within the supply chain.

    In view of such a complex phenomena as climate change not sufficient outcomes emerge from concentrating separately on mitigation or adaptation efforts, but rather it is their integration in a coherent policy and the subsequently planned actions that could increase effectiveness and efficiency as well as intensify the desired results. This working hypothesis is elaborated in the paper based on the case study of the city of Krakow in the Southern Poland. The aim of the paper is to identify the synergies and trade-offs from the climate mitigation and adaptation efforts planned within the climate, water and development sectors in Krakow. The scoping study of the policies and strategic documents was performed with that respect and the state-of-the-art literature was studied to capture the latest advancements in the climate mitigation and adaptation integration studies in order to develop the research method. The applied method was validated as relevant for integration of these aspects with the focus on the cities. The results show the landscape of the planned strategic actions towards mitigation and adaptation to climate change as well as synergies and trade-offs between the two. In the discussion the results are analysed in view of the identified performed studies of this type.

    Many decisions in various fields of application have to take into account the joint effects of two elements that can interfere with each other. This happens, for example, in Medicine (synergic or antagonistic drugs), Agriculture (anti-cryptogamics), Public Economics (interfering economic policies), Industrial Economics (where the demand of an asset can be influenced by the supply of another asset), Zootechnics, and so on. When it is necessary to decide about the dosage of such elements, there is sometimes a primary interest for one effect rather than another; more precisely, it may be of interest that the effects of an element are in a certain proportion with respect to the effects of the other. It may also be necessary to take into account minimum quantities that must be assigned. In Carfì, Gambarelli and Uristani (2013), a mathematical model was proposed to solve the above problem in its exact form. In this paper, we present a solution in closed form for the case in which the function of the effects is bilinear.

Jego celem jest identyfikacja czynników, głównych motywów i korzyści, które skłaniają do poszukiwania źródeł synergii oraz wykorzystywania siły sprawczej współdzielenia. Skoncentrowano tu również uwagę na wykorzystaniu tej siły w procesach konsolidacji i koopetycji, dążąc do unowocześnienia przedsiębiorstwa energetycznego.
    The conditions for the functioning of the energy sector, strongly determined by a number of regulatory, technological and market-related factors, lead to the transformation of the traditional business model of energy companies. They put pressure on increasing innovation, flexibility, strengthening of customer loyalty, further integration processes, effective process management and improvement of efficiency. This paper focuses on the role of sharing resources and activities in the restructuring of the business model as a way to build competitiveness through the use of synergies in multi-entity structures. It aims to identify the factors, as well as the main motivations and benefits, which encourage searching for sources of synergies and the use of the force behind sharing.

    Lifting is known to be a major reason for musculoskeletal injuries. In this way, lifting has a crucial effect on human musculoskeletal system and intensity of this impact depends slightly on the selection of techniques. Underlying mechanisms by which trunk muscles are executed during performing lifting are central to biomechanical study of lifting techniques. In the current study, the trunk muscular control mechanisms of lifting are investigated using the synergetic control analysis. Non-negative matrix factorization has been used to extract trunk muscles synergies from their activities – which are computed by a previously validated musculoskeletal model – during different lifting techniques aimed to investigate motor control strategies. Three lifting techniques are considered; stoop, squat and semi-squat. Three synergies account for variety among muscle activation of trunk muscles with related VAF (Variability Account For) of over 95%. Trunk muscle synergy weightings and related time-varying coefficients are calculated for each kind of lifting techniques considering three synergies. Paired correlation coefficients between muscle synergies are all greater than 0.91 (P < 0.05) suggesting that trunk muscle synergies are similar for examined techniques in spite of their kinematic diversity. This similarity can be a result of their common ultimate goal. The acquired results also elucidate the mechanisms of muscle activation patterns that can be exploited in future studies and ergonomic interventions.

    Background: The proposal is to non-linear performance into account in terms of synergy when conducting DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis). The solution to the problem is produced for interacting schools, which can be regarded as business clusters. The inputs and outputs are selected by importance on the basis of the author's opinion. However, the technique does not change when taking into account other factors that are expressed numerically. Methods: The proposal is to reduce the number of the inputs and outputs to one input and one output using weighting factors. Thus a solution can be found by linear programming. The D EA algorithm is easily coded in Mathcad. Results: As a result, we obtain a vector of the effectiveness of each element in the business cluster, including stand-effective and super-efficient elements. Conclusions: A model of DEA is proposed which takes into account the scale and synergies of the business cluster. This allows a performance rating against the collective interaction to be obtained.
    Wstęp: Poddano analizie metodę nieliniową dla synergii przy zastosowaniu metody DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis). Rozwiązanie zostało zrealizowane dla współpracujących szkół, które mogą być traktowane, jako klastery biznesowe. Dane wejściowe i wyjściowe zostały wyselekcjonowane według ważności (w opinii autora). Aczkolwiek należy zaznaczyć, że metoda postępowania nie zmienia się przy analizie innych czynników, mogących być przedstawione w formie liczbowej. Metody: Zaproponowano redukcję liczby danych wejściowych i wyjściowych przy zastosowaniu współczynnika wagi. Następnie poszukano rozwiązania przy użyciu programowaniu liniowego. Algorytm DEA może być z łatwością zaimplementowany przy użyciu MATCAD. Wyniki: Otrzymano wektor efektywności każdego elementu klastera biznesowego, łącznie z elementami o stałej i bardo dużej efektywności. Wnioski: zaproponowano model DAE, uwzględniający skalę oraz synergię klastera biznesowego. Umożliwia to uszeregowanie zachowań wobec zbiorowych interakcji.
