    Opis:
    Regional studies cover a spectrum of diversified phenomena and problems including social, economic and environmental ones, which refer to territorial units. Owing to their specific characteristics they are most frequently of both multivariate and complex nature. Conducting regional research is associated with the need to consider such difficulties as large data sets, insufficient precision of phenomena description, disregarding territorial diversification of a given phenomenon, as well as incomplete description of problems. The objective of the paper is to suggest solutions to these problems by means of symbolic approach application which basically consists in presenting phenomena in the form of symbolic data. The first part of the paper discusses specific nature of symbolic data, methods for collecting symbolic data and methods for these data analysis. The second part presents an empirical example referring to the assessment of labour market situation in Polish regions (NTS-2) using symbolic data and cluster analysis.

    Opis:
    Within various fields of social sciences, populism is being constantly re-conceptualised to create a possibly most holistic definition of the phenomenon, one which would encompass all of its structural features and allow it to be applied to the largest number of empirical manifestations. Nonetheless, across different disciplines a growing consensus gains traction to define populism through the framework of ideology. As such, populism is understood as possessing a capability to attach itself to more powerful ideological concepts – nationalism, socialism, fascism. Thus, the central question in the study of populism as ideology needs to focus on the mechanics of strengthening populism in a given case. What makes one populism more radical than another? Using Freeden’s ideational approach and Mudde’s work on factors influencing intensity and efficiency of populism, this paper argues that the perception of the past in a given community, constructed through collective memory policies and expressed by means of historical revisionism, works as a ‘thickening agent’ fostering electoral success and increasing political durability of populist governance. Although seeking to create primarily a theoretical contribution, it will also encompass evidence of that modality from studying collective memory policies under Poland’s Law and Justice Party rule between 2015 and 2019.

    Celem artykułu jest ukazanie sposobu prezentowania, opisywania i wartościowania przestrzeni w polskiej literaturze Young Adult. Napięcie między społeczną przestrzenią a doświadczeniem podmiotu wyzwala proces poznawania i samopoznania kluczowy dla problematyki literatury młodzieżowej zwyczajowo podejmującej temat dorastania i dojrzewania. Rytualna i symboliczna przestrzeń (szkoła – dom – najbliższa okolica) ukształtowana przez zbiorowe wyobrażenia kulturowe staje się dla bohatera zarówno przestrzenią odtrącenia, upokorzenia oraz agresji, jak i przestrzenią oswojoną czy miejscem spotkania. Artykuł jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytania: Jak literatura YA kreuje wyobrażone miejsca i obszary? W jaki sposób doświadczanie i doznawanie przestrzeni (miejsca?) wpływa (może wpływać) na samoświadomość podmiotu – bohatera literackiego? W jaki sposób akt lektury może kształtować świat wartościmłodego czytelnika? Jak miejsca i przestrzenie wykreowane w najnowszej literaturze YA sytuują się wobec wybranych tradycyjnych ujęć tematu? Materiałem badawczym są wybrane polskie powieści z nurtu YA po 2004 roku. Artykuł prowadzi do zarysowania modelu egzystencjalnej i performatywnej lektury przestrzeni wyobrażonej.
    The aim of the article is to show how to present, describe and value space in Polish literature Young Adults. The tension between the social space and the subject’s experience triggers the process of cognition and self-knowledge that are crucial for the issue of YA literature, usually addressing the subject of adolescence and maturation. The ritual and symbolic space (school - home - the closest neighbourhood) shaped by collective cultural images, for the protagonist becomes both the space of rejection, humiliation and aggression, as well as the safe and meeting space. The article is an attempt to answer the following questions: How does the YA literature create imagined places and areas? How does experiencing and experiencing space (or are) affect (or can affect) the self-consciousness of the subject – the literary hero? How can the act of reading shape the world of the young reader’s values? How do the places and spaces created in the latest YA literature place themselves against selected traditional approach to the subject? The research material will be selected Polish novels from the current YA current literature written after 2004. The article provides an outline of the existential and performative model of reading imaginary space.
