Opis:
Recent development in optical networking employing wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) fulfills the high bandwidth demand applications. Failure of such networks, leads to enormous data and revenue loss. Protection is one of the key techniques, which is used in designing survivable WDM networks. In this paper we compare dedicated and shared protection strategies employed inWDMmesh networks to protect optical networks failure, particularly fiber failure. Dijkstra's shortest path algorithm is considered for carrying out simulations. The paper compares the performance of protection schemes, such as, dedicated path protection (DPP), shared path protection (SPP) and shared link protection (SLP) schemes. Capacity utilization, switching time and blocking probability are the parameters considered to measure the performance of the protection schemes. Simulation results show that, SPP is more efficient in terms of capacity utilization over DPP and SLP schemes, whereas, SLP offered better switching time than both DPP and SPP schemes. The average call drop rate is minimum for shared path protection scheme and maximum for shared link protection scheme.

Opis:
Redundancy or standby is a technique that has been widely applied to improving system reliability and availability in the stage of system design. In this paper, we consider a standby system with two units in which the first unit (unit 1) starts its operation under active state and the other unit (unit 2) is under cold standby state at the starting point. After a specified time s (switching time), the state of unit 2 is changed to warm standby state and, as soon as the operating unit 1 fails, the state of unit 2 is changed to active state. If unit 1 fails before times, the system fails. Units can fail at both active and warm standby states. A general method for modeling the standby system is adopted and, based on it, system performance measures (system reliability and mean life) are derived. We consider the problem of determining optimal switching time which maximizes the expected system life. Some numerical examples are studied.

Opis:
Cost saving is one of the most important factors for sustainability of the industrial enterprise. The company must optimize its procurement process, monitor and forecast of market prices, search and introduce alternative, select future partners carefully and apply optimal procedures. Also the buyer has to distribute the orders among suppliers, motivate them in cooperation and promote competition between suppliers. It is important to evaluate the transaction costs for buyer and participants before announcement of the tender, compare them with the parameters of the transaction and the market situation. The article shows growing costs in case of superposition of procurement cycles, and notes that the switch is characterized not only by cost but also time figures. It is concluded that the minimization of switching time leads to cost saving.

Opis:
An equivalent sliding mode control method of an induction motor speed has been discussed. The control signal consists of two parts: a continuous and discontinuous one. Very good dynamical response of the drive system has been obtained, which however changes influenced by external and parametric disturbances occurring under various operation conditions. In order to ensure identical dynamic performance of the speed transients and system robustness during the switching line reaching phase, regardless of external and parametric disturbances, the time-varying switching line is proposed. The simulation results have been validated by experimental tests of the induction motor drive system.

Recent studies of short-term phonetic interference suggest that code-switching can lead to momentary increases in L1 influence on L2. In an earlier study using a single acoustic measure (VOT), we found that Czech EFL learners’ pronunciation of English voiceless stops had shorter, i.e. more L1-Czech-like, VOTs in code-switched compared to L2-only sentences. The first aim of the current study was to test the prediction that native listeners would judge the code-switched English productions as more foreign-accented than the L2-only productions. The results provide only weak support for this prediction. The second aim was to test whether more native-like VOT values would correlate with improved accentedness scores. This was confirmed for sentence-initial stops.

Opis:
Matlab engineering software application for measurement results’ analysis process improvement has been presented in this paper. The main purpose of the study was the analysis of the impact of the interrupted current distortion level on selected low voltage (LV) circuit-breakers’ (CB) current breaking capability. Influence of various levels and characters of current distortion were analyzed for few types of LV circuit-breakers. Huge number of data collected as the result of performed tests needed process automatization for fast extraction the specific resultant data required for future analysis. It was realized by means of developed Matlab software script. Developed script, basis on recorded diagrams, permitted for fast determination the arcing time, arc energy and power for various voltage levels and interrupted current phase and values.
W artykule przedstawiono zastosowanie oprogramowania inżynierskiego Matlab do usprawnienia analizy wyników pomiarów uzyskanych drogą eksperymentu. Implementacja opracowanego skryptu pozwoliła na automatyzacje procesu ekstrakcji wybranych danych bezpośrednio z zarejestrowanych drogą pomiarów przebiegów napięć i prądów. Głównym celem przeprowadzonych badań była analiza wpływu formy oraz poziomu odkształcenia wyłączanego prądu na podstawowe zdolności łączeniowe wybranych łączników niskiego napięcia. Z uwagi na obszerną bazę uzyskanych wyników pomiarów, a tym samym dużą liczbę danych koniecznych do przeprowadzenia analizy, zastosowano specjalnie w tym celu opracowany skrypt dedykowany dla środowiska Matlab, a pozwalający na automatyzacje wspomnianego procesu, w szczególności na wyodrębnienie z pozyskanych przebiegów napięć i prądów, niezbędnych do dalszej analizy informacji. Dzięki opracowanemu oprogramowaniu możliwe stało się szybkie pozyskanie danych dotyczących czasów łukowych, energii i mocy łuku dla różnych parametrów sieci oraz różnych chwil czasowych rozejścia się styków.

In this paper, the stabilization problem of a autonomous linear time invariant fractional order (LTI-FO) switched system with different derivative order in subsystems is outlined. First, necessary and sufficient condition for stability of an LTI-FO switched system with different derivative order in subsystems based on the convex analysis and linear matrix inequality (LMI) for two subsystems is presented and proved. Also, sufficient condition for stability of an LTI-FO switched system with different derivative order in subsystems for more than two subsystems is proved. Then a sliding sector is designed for each subsystem of the LTI-FO switched system. Finally, a switching control law is designed to switch the LTI-FO switched system among subsystems to ensure the decrease of the norm of the switched system. Simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed variable structure controller.

This paper introduces an LTE system level simulator and presents investigations of scenarios with differently balanced traffic emergence between uplink and downlink as well as inhomogeneous distribution of link direction asymmetry. In the TDD mode of LTE, duplexing is implemented via sharing the time domain between uplink and downlink users. This is done by different switching configurations, which offer varying capacity distributions between downlink and uplink, from a downlink-heavy configuration with 90 percent of the capacity in downlink direction to uplink heavy configurations with 60 percent uplink. We utilize the available capacity perfectly by adjusting the link configuration appropriately to traffic emergence. Performance gains when selecting a configuration appropriate to the arising traffic compared to usage of a static configuration with equally distributed capacity are investigated. In case of different configurations, additional interference can occur in neighbored cells due to distinct communication direction at the same time. We clarify the differences between these scenarios and quantify the gains and losses when the switching point between uplink and downlink is variable.

High-speed switching capabilities of SiC MOSFET power modules allow building high power converters working with elevated switching frequencies offering high efficiencies and high power densities. As the switching processes get increasingly rapid, the parasitic capacitances and inductances appearing in SiC MOSFET power modules affect switching transients more and more significantly. Even relatively small parasitic capacitances can cause a significant capacitive current flow through the SiC MOSFET power module. As the capacitive current component in the drain current during the turn-off process is significant, a commonly used metod of determining the switching power losses based on the product of instantaneous values of drain-source voltage and drain current may lead to a severe error. Another problem is that charged parasitic capacitances discharge through the MOSFET resistive channel during the turn-on process. As this happens in the internal structure, that current is not visible on the MOSFET terminals. Fast switching processes are challenging to measure accurately due to the imperfections of measurement probes, like their output signals delay mismatch. This paper describes various problems connected with the correct determination of switching power losses in high-speed SiC MOSFET power modules and proposes solutions to these problems. A method of achieving a correct time alignment of waveforms collected by voltage and current probes has been shown and verified experimentally. In order to estimate SiC MOSFET channel current during the fast turn-off process, a method based on the estimation of nonlinear parasitic capacitances current has also been proposed and verified experimentally.

This paper investigates the problem of fault tolerant control of a class of uncertain switched nonlinear systems with time delay under asynchronous switching. The systems under consideration suffer from delayed switchings of the controller. First, a fault tolerant controller is proposed to guarantee exponentially stability of the switched systems with time delay. The dwell time approach is utilized for stability analysis and controller design. Then the proposed approach is extended to take into account switched time delay systems with Lipschitz nonlinearities and structured uncertainties. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
