Opis:
Purpose: The main objective of the research was to identify the structure and level of psychosocial risk experienced by transport workers and the relation between occupational stress and the decision to leave the job. Methodology: The research on psychosocial risks at work and their impact on job-related decisions was conducted with the Psychosocial Risk Scale (SRP), a scientifically verified diagnostic tool characterized by high reliability and accuracy of coefficients. The scale consists of four parts, A, B, C, and D. Part A concerns demographic data (such as age, gender, seniority, position, etc.). Part B contains questions related to health and professional functioning. Part C consists of 50 statements related to characteristics of work that pose potential psychosocial risks. Annex D-SRP for the transport sector contains 12 questions (α-Cronbach factor = 0.80). Psychometric properties of parts B and C of the Psychosocial Risk Scale were determined on the basis of the survey results. Results: The psychosocial risk categories considered were workload, job content, work schedule, control, environment and equipment, organizational culture and function, interpersonal relationships, career development, and work-life interface. The mediating effect of job satisfaction was also considered to provide a holistic perception of the analyzed problem. Job satisfaction was analyzed in job content, work conditions and organization, financial conditions, career development, and interpersonal relations with superiors and co-workers. Based on research results, authors identified and characterized the impact of psychosocial risk on transport workers' job-related decisions. Theoretical contribution: The research links social sciences, psychology, and management studies exploring the links between occupational stress and HR management implications, filling in a research gap between occupational stress and logistics management and creating new gaps and research questions as conclusions from research open following research fields and opportunities in the context of research on sustainable development of enterprises. It adds a new perspective to transport management, proving that risk resulting from job characteristics and organization can compromise the availability of workers and the quality of processes performed. Practical implications: The research results can be used by HR managers and workload planners to minimize the occupational stress experienced and improve the well-being and performance of transport workers.

Opis:
Research background: Job crafting based on individual initiative represents a new form of work design, supporting stability in increasing work performance. In many cases, this method proves to be an effective way of increasing employees' work engagement, mainly because of the mediated autonomy in their work performance and the greater meaningfulness that results from it. The basis of job crafting is employee support, which initiates working behavior focused on proactivity in creating and adapting work to the subjective requirements of the employee's individuality. The available literature highlights various approaches that mediate individual topics, with which companies try to stimulate employee behavior, the expected result of which is job crafting, which leads to an increase in work performance. Purpose of the article: The goal of the study is to identify current research directions in the field of job crafting, specifically in relation to increasing work performance. Methods: The Web of Science database was used to identify the main directions of research in the relevant literature. Research was directed at peer-reviewed articles published in journals indexed in SSCI as Q1 and Q2. The resulting number of articles was identified based on the PRISMA selection method. Findings & value added: By analyzing the literary sources, we have identified 4 important research topics that the authors of the scientific articles addressed. The most widespread topic was work engagement and its influence on job crafting. In the second topic, the authors addressed the issue of how job crafting supports the meaningfulness of work. The third research topic that the authors addressed was job crafting as a factor of employee autonomy. The fourth theme identified was the influence of leadership and management support on job-crafting behavior. The paper offers the reader a systematic and clear list of available quality resources that can help them in their personal research related to job crafting and work performance. In addition, the results of our research may be useful for companies trying to improve the work performance of their employees.

Opis:
This paper aims to show the importance of stress at work for the economy. Stress, which until recently was considered mainly in psychological or social terms, has a direct impact on human capital and labour, which are the basic factors of economic growth (as well as natural resources, technology, physical and financial capitals). The quality and quantity of human capital directly affects the growth of the economy. An increase in investment in human capital can improve the quality of the labour force, hence its productivity. On the other hand, factors that limit economic growth include: poor health and low level of education. People who do not have access to healthcare or education have lower levels of productivity. The economy, therefore, does not fulfil its potential productivity or growth. Stress negatively contributes to changes of these factors. It has become one of the main causes of disability and inability to work in recent years. The first part describes the overall situation in which stress has become an issue for companies and the economy. In the second part I present the different research findings that demonstrate how the meaning and importance of work, and workplace conditions, have evolved. I refer, as well, to quantitative findings proving that companies should invest in preventing stress at work as excessive stress affects performance and productivity. The third part briefly portrays the example of Belgium, where the problem of stress and its economic consequences have been quite thoroughly investigated. The costs of excessive stress were regarded as undue, and as a result, Belgium adopted a law protecting employees against stress and burnout at work. Under this law, employers are obliged to introduce specific internal rules and preventative measures. Based on the Belgian experience, I provide several arguments demonstrating that improving the workplace by mitigating stress levels is beneficial not only for a company itself but for the economy in general. It impacts positively human capital, employability, leads to improved productivity, and in the end, contributes to sustainable economic growth. At the end of the paper, in an annex, I present a case illustrating the problem of excessive stress at work. It is an example of the great pressure and stress imposed on employees during the time of the ongoing business changes in one of the financial companies based in Brussels. The purpose of this article, however, is not to exhaust the topic of the impact of stress on economy, but rather to induce discussion on the magnitude and importance of this problem.

The article discusses the issue of strengthening psychological capital as an element of sustainable employee development. Psychological capital (PsychCap), consisting of effectiveness, optimism, hope, and resilience is an important element of employees’ subjective resources, which may contribute to effective completion of professional tasks and high levels of engagement, and at the level of subjective effects – psychological well-being. Activities aimed at developing particular components of PsychCap in the organisation may be carried out as part of specially planned, organised and systematically conducted interventions, coaching, as well as meetings of the manager with his/her subordinate team.

The current coronavirus pandemic is not only a health/healthcare crisis but to a vast extent it will also influence other spheres of life, including social relations, the shape of economy and working models, and natural environment. Sustainable development that relies on the previously mentioned pillars (economy, society, environment) is going to be strongly affected by the virus outbreak. There is a threat that the process of recovering from the corona crisis will accelerate and legitimize the dynamics of surveillance capitalism. A really interesting case is going to be the labor world, where thanks to modern technologies, suppression of personal freedoms and triumph of total surveillance might be particularly easy. However, good scenarios are also plausible. The first 21st century pandemic of that scale may force societies to redefine their current modus operandi and shift capitalism into a more sustainable, humanistic model.

Opis:
Purpose of the work: Mountainous areas, with altitude over 700 m, intense relief and slopes between 16–20%, cover 43% of Greece and they are usually characterized by low population density and long-term unemployment. The Greeks have a dependent connection among environment, economy and society as the history illustrates. Many of Greece’s historic, cultural landscapes and native ecosystems have been degraded or isolated over the years. There is scientific evidence that Greece’s natural/semi-natural forested areas cannot be sustained without watersheds, ridges and other natural corridors that connect its native landscapes and ecosystems. Logging systems are really ancient by using often only mules or horses. The aim of the work is to estimate how harvesting systems should be technologically upgraded improving forest work and social wellness maintaining at the same time ecological sustainability. Approach: The study area is held at Samarina region, a mountainous area of Northern Pindos in Greece. Social data were collected with questionnaires and local visits for better understanding of human resources for forest authorities and other administrative information’s. DTM, Forest Inventory data and other GIS data have been derived by paper maps and previous studies. A registration of road-net and human resources within the protected area of Valia Kyrna and their contribution as factors for the sustainable development was used. The development of a Spatial Decision Support System that can concern all the conditions that are need in order to make an estimation of the optimal way of harvest a stand is really a challenge. Expected results: A GIS program is a powerful decision support tool in order to give the opportunity to the offices of Forestry to choose the optimal way of harvesting a stand and also to realize visually the effect’s of such a kind of work; that is going to be held to the inhabitants and to the tourists of the area. Conclusion: The potential of social and ecological factors is examined as it concerns the promotion of the protected area within sustainable rural development. Advantages of registration in the form of a spatial tool, especially when many types of information participate, are presented.

This article reflects on the issues discussed at the International Conference Career and Life Design Interventions for Sustainable Development and Decent Work, organized jointly by the UNESCO Chair on Lifelong Guidance and Counseling (Institute of Pedagogy, University of Wroclaw) and the European Society for Vocational Designing and Career Counseling (ESVDC) in Wroclaw, Poland, on 6–8 June, 2016. Citing the arguments advanced in the conference presentations, the author focuses on three dominant themes, i.e., the accelerated unsustainable growth and its ramifications; the concept of decent work; and career and life design interventions for sustainable development and decent work. Corresponding to the conference’s first thematic block, the opening part of the article serves as an introduction outlining a background for further discussion and listing the social and economic consequences of unsustainable development. The second part examines the idea of decent work and measures for facilitating access to work. The third part explores Life Design, i.e., the contemporary (postmodern) paradigm of career counseling, and its reception in counseling practice. In conclusion, implications for future career counseling practice are proposed.
Artykuł jest autorską prezentacją zagadnień, podjętych na międzynarodowej konferencji naukowej pt. „Konstruowanie kariery i życia (Life Design) na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju i godnej pracy”, zorganizowanej we Wrocławiu przez Katedrę UNESCO Całożyciowego Poradnictwa Zawodowego Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego oraz Europan Society for Vocational Designing and Carrer Counseling w dniach 6–8 czerwca 2016 roku. W części trzeciej artykułu zaprezentowano dyskusję dotyczącą współczesnego (postmodernistycznego) paradygmatu poradnictwa kariery Life Design i stopnia jego recepcji w praktyce poradniczej.

The article focuses on the assessment of a sustainable working environment in contemporary office buildings. It is a continuation of the research undertaken earlier by the author on sustainable office architecture. This issue is one of the important pro-environmental factors in cities. It consists not only of the buildings themselves, the way they function and the way they are made, the type of materials used, but also the equipment and interior design. It should be noted that the design of the office environment should respond to the changing needs of employees. After two years of intermittent remote work caused by Covid 19, it makes sense to introduce spaces in buildings dedicated to much-needed employee interaction and social collaboration. The aim of the work is to determine the specific features of a sustainable working environment in office buildings, beneficial, people-friendly, those that can improve the quality and standard of work, increase productivity, but also affect the health and well-being of employees. In addition, a survey was conducted to determine the needs of office employees in terms of work comfort.

The subject of the article is the analysis of the impact of common use of multicriterial assessment buildings systems, most of all office buildings on the quality of the work environment in these facilities. The article has been discussed the general principles of certification, including the division into categories and individual criteria; criteria were presented in greater detail, which in the assessment of the work environment quality are based on the LEED method—this is one of the most popular methods for assessing buildings. Due to the fact that Poland remains the indisputable leader of Central and Eastern Europe in terms of the number of certificates obtained for multicriterial assessment of buildings. The estimation trend of these assessment methods was shown on the example of investments implemented in Poland. A detailed analysis of the method and degree of criteria fulfil included in the selected LEED assessment method was also carried out for Polish buildings—their location and time of creation were particularize, as well as the evaluation obtained in the final certification process. The analysis closes the summary in which the answer to the question posed at the beginning was presented. It was a question about the influence and possible magnitude of the multicriterial certification development of office buildings as an indicator of modernity and quality of work environment.

Opis:
A substantial part of the environmental issues relies on fossil fuels. This dependence is crucial in transport even though many incentives and interventions have been proposed to reduce pollutant emissions. Electric vehicles with zero emissions might represent a viable solution in urban areas. Many cities encouraged modal shift policies from cars to an e-bike or car-sharing/pooling with electric vehicle fleets. This paper reports the ongoing outputs from a pilot project, relying on a modal shift to the e-bike, promoted in the city of Messina (Southern Italy) by the Ministry of Ecological Transition. The objective is to assess, in the territorial context of Messina, the e-bike as a competitive transport mode in terms of social awareness of eco-friendly mobility solutions. The available dataset consists of about nine months of observations; data on total distance and trips have been gathered for each e-bike. It emerged how, in a typical working day, the average distance travelled is about 6.9 km, the usage rate for working days is about 81 %, and the carbon dioxide reduction is about 245 kg per person each year. During the project, information was also collected on the satisfaction with the e-bike and the quality of travel. It emerged that regular bicycle use has good repercussions on the interviewees' psycho-physical well-being, reducing the stress factor connected with urban mobility. Despite mechanical breakdowns and the lack of an infrastructure dedicated to active mobility representing a limitation, travel comfort and safety are two latent variables that are transver-sally valid within the population; about 15 % became familiar with the e-bike and made it their primary mode choice for everyday activities. In this sense, outputs represent a starting point for future policies and give back adjustments before introducing similar services to students from the university and second-grade schools.
