    A method has been proposed to select one of several project implementation variants in the context of sustainable project management. The method should be applied in the phase of the project definition. The projects are viewed across the entire lifecycle of the project and its product. In all the phases, the sustainability aspects should be addressed in a balanced way. The sustainability context implies that different stakeholders will have conflicting opinions on the weights of different variables. The proposed approach is based on network Data Envelopment Analysis that does not require the weights of individual variables as input. Consequently, the proposed method is the first approach allowing users to select a project implementation variant in the context of sustainability and the entire project and product lifecycle, without imposing the weights of individual variables. The proposal is designed for organisations using project sustainable management.

    Zrównoważone podejście do zarządzania projektami jest koniecznością obecnych czasów. Kryzys klimatyczny, zmiany społeczne i gospodarcze nakładają na organizację konieczność uwzględnienia w swojej działalności celów zrównoważonego rozwoju. Obszar projektowy nie może być odizolowany od tych zmian, a co za tym idzie, musi wypracować adaptacje priorytetów zrównoważonego rozwoju do swojej praktyki zarządczej. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest identyfikacja adaptacji priorytetów zrównoważonego rozwoju do głównych metodyk zarządzania projektami, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem metodyki PRiSM (PRojects integrating Sustainable Methods). Artykuł będzie starał się odpowiedzieć również na pytanie, w jakim aspekcie metodyka PRiSM różni się od dotychczas stosowanych podejść oraz czy elementy zrównoważonego rozwoju możemy odnaleźć w światowych standardach zarządzania projektami? Podstawową metodą badawczą jest analiza opracowań naukowych (pozycji zwartych, studiów i artykułów naukowych; przegląd literatury oraz przedstawienie krytycznej analizy tej literatury) poświęconych analizowanej problematyce krajowych, jak i zagranicznych wytycznych metodycznych z zakresu zarządzania projektami.
    The sustainable approach to project management is a necessity in today’s world. Climate crisis, demographic and economic changes press organizations to implement sustainable development goals in their activities. The project management area cannot be isolated from these changes, therefore, adaptations of sustainable development goals must be developed in project management practice as well. The aim of this article is to identify the adaptations of sustainable development goals in the main methods of project management, including the Projects integrating Sustainable Methods (PRiSM). The article seeks to answer the questions in what aspect the PRiSM method differs from the approaches used so far and whether the elements of sustainable development can be found in global standards of project management. The primary research method in this study is the analysis of scientific publications (monographs, studies, and scholarly articles, a literature review and a critical analysis of this literature) dedicated to the examined issue, including both national and international as well as global methodological guidelines in the area of project management.

    Purpose: The dynamic economic changes in recent years have made the principles of sustainable development gain more and more importance and there is a great need to maintain a balance in the social, environmental, and economic dimensions. This has also been observed in project management, whereby the concept of sustainable project management plays an important role in both practice and science. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in scientific publications on the concept of sustainable project management. The article presents the assumptions of sustainability in a project and the identification of research directions in this area. The study aims to present the results of the literature review and answer the two research questions: which research areas related to sustainable project management dominate the literature and what are the further research directions in the field of sustainable project management? Design/methodology/approach: The study was conducted based on a literature review in the field of sustainable project management and sustainability in project management. Scientific articles indexed in the Scopus database, published before 2022, were used. A keyword analysis was carried out, on the basis of which subject areas related to sustainable project management were distinguished, and the most cited articles were reviewed to extract recommendations for the directions of future research. Findings: The literature review, taking into account sustainable project management, show that project lifecycle, project success, and risk management are dominated research topic in the articles. Further research directions suggested in the literature indicate, inter alia, to extend the scope of research on sustainable project management to different countries and sectors. Originality/value: The literature review is based on the most recent publications. Moreover, in addition to the traditional literature review, keywords were analyzed and other research directions were analyzed, which was rarely seen in publications that focused mainly on the synthesis of conclusions.

    Artykuł podejmuje tematykę zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami w organizacjach non profit. Realizując projekty, organizacje non profit mogą znacząco wpływać na społeczeństwo, stan środowiska czy ogólnie rozumiany dobrobyt, stąd zrównoważone zarządzanie projektami wydaje się szczególnie pożądaną cechą zarządzania projektami w organizacjach non profit. Przesłanek zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami w omawianych organizacjach można upatrywać zarówno w uwarunkowaniach zewnętrznych, jak i wewnętrznych, związanych ze specyfiką funkcjonowania organizacji non profit. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest wskazanie związku źródeł finansowania działalności organizacji non profit z częstością stosowania praktyk zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami (w obszarach Ludzie, Planeta i Dobrobyt). Artykuł bazuje na badaniu ilościowym, jego respondentami były osoby reprezentujące organizacje non profit funkcjonujące w Polsce i posiadające doświadczenie projektowe.
    This article addresses the topic of sustainable project management in non-profit organizations. By implementing projects, NPOs can have a significant impact on society, the environment, or well-being of society in general, hence sustainable project management appears to be a particularly desirable feature of project management in NPOs. The rationale for sustainable project management in the organizations in question can be traced back to both external and internal conditions related to the specifics of the NPO’s operation. The aim of this article is to search for a link between the sources of funding for the activities of NPOs and the frequency with which sustainable project management practices (in the areas of People, Planet, and Well-being) are applied during project implementation. The article is based on a quantitative survey; The respondents were people representing nonprofit organizations operating in Poland and having project management experience.

    Artykuł dotyczy kierunków badań związanych z zarządzaniem projektami w organizacjach non profit. Prezentowane rozważania wskazują przyszłe trendy, które mogą wzbudzić zainteresowanie zarówno wśród badaczy, jak i praktyków zajmujących się zagadnieniami zarządzania projektami w organizacjach non profit. Przeprowadzono przegląd i studia literatury w omawianym obszarze. Wykorzystano metodę narracyjnego przeglądu literatury. Takie podejście umożliwiło wskazanie aktualnego stanu wiedzy w obszarze zarządzania projektami w organizacjach non profit. Pozwoliło też na wskazanie najnowszych trendów mających związek ze zmianami, jakie zachodzą w otoczeniu tych organizacji, ale też w ich wewnętrznej organizacji. Przedstawione rozważania bazują na analizie tekstów publikacji naukowych odnoszących się do organizacji non profit funkcjonujących w Polsce. Prezentowany artykuł umożliwia lepsze poznanie potrzeb badawczych w zakresie zarządzania projektami w organizacjach non profit.

    Artykuł w formie krytycznego przeglądu literatury pokazuje ewolucję dyskusji naukowej na temat zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami. Na podstawie 129 anglojęzycznych artykułów naukowych przeprowadzono analizę opisową i tematyczną tego trendu, który wzbudza duże zainteresowanie badaczy. W ten sposób wyodrębniono dominujące narracje dotyczące prób określenia definicji i zakresu zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami, szukania argumentów przemawiających za wdrażaniem zrównoważonych praktyk, wpływu na tradycyjne sposoby zarządzania projektami, łączenia praktyki projektowej z logiką zrównoważonego rozwoju. Dodatkowo także podkreślono rolę menedżera projektów, interesariuszy oraz całych organizacji. Zwrócono również uwagę na dysproporcję między zainteresowaniem zrównoważonym zarządzaniem projektami a rolą i znaczeniem projektów w czasie kryzysu klimatyczno-ekologicznego. Wnioski z literatury wskazują, że zrównoważone zarządzanie projektami jest koncepcją, która ma potencjał dalszej eksploracji w nowatorskich przedsięwzięciach badawczych, choć nie jest wolna od ograniczeń.
    This critical literature review shows the evolution of the scientific discussion on sustainable project management. Based on 129 scientific papers, a descriptive and thematic analysis was carried out. In this way the dominant narratives were discussed. They include the evolution and definition of sustainable project management, arguments for the implementation of sustainable practices, the impact of green transition on traditional project management methods, project features and the logic of sustainable development, the role of the project manager, stakeholders and organization, as well as the potential of this research orientation and its limitations. Attention was also drawn to the disproportion in interests in sustainable project management and the role and importance of projects during the climate crisis. Conclusions from the literature indicate that sustainable project management is a concept that is still underexplored and has the potential for further innovative research endeavors.

    Proper environmental project management is a significant element in shaping a positive, pro-environmental image of urban agglomerations and adjacent towns. Environmental resource management and protection, as well as spatial planning in accordance with sustainable development principles, are the most important factors in creating a positive image of, and strategies for, cities. An example of a large, innovative environmental project implementation is the Central Sewage Treatment Plant in Kozieglowy, in the agglomeration of Poznan, and its installations and equipment impact assessment studies. Important aspects of the project were mediations, which took place from May 2011, until the end of April 2012.

    In recent years we have observed the global awareness of threats posed by unrestrained and irresponsible growth gaining ground. Hence, continuous searches for sustainable solutions which enable to put in place measures that promote global, national, and local efficiency seem to make sense.This paper aims to examine and assess the current state of affairs and proposes directions for the development of sustainable and socially responsible project-related activities. It explains how the idea of social responsibility emerged as a natural consequence of the evolution of an organisation with respect to sustainable development. Against the background of these notions we define the place and role of project management in socially responsible development and discuss different views on the subject presented by authors from different countries. Theoretical considerations are supplemented with the discussion of the findings of own surveys focused on the role and relevance of social responsibility in project management in organisations active in this field in Poland. It was an exploratory study, the first of its kind in Poland.

    Społeczna odpowiedzialność działalności przedsiębiorstw określa odpowiedzialność organizacji za zrównoważony rozwój, zawiera obowiązki w zakresie dbałości nie tylko o zapewnienie ciągłości jego funkcjonowania, ale także działania na rzecz ochrony środowiska naturalnego, likwidację lub zmniejszanie nierówności społecznych w tym skrajnego ubóstwa czy dbałość o lokalny rozwój gospodarczy. Analizując to zagadnienie przez pryzmat projektów Autorzy uważają, że projekty – jako główne instrumenty rozwoju organizacji – powinny uwzględniać elementy zrównoważonego rozwoju odnośnie do sposobu organizacji prac, planowania ich wykonawstwa, produktów cząstkowych oraz ostatecznych rezultatów. W tym ujęciu warto podkreślić, że odpowiedzialność za obszar zrównoważonego rozwoju należy postrzegać jako naturalny element zakresu projektu, zaś branie odpowiedzialności za ten obszar powinno stać się zwyczajowym elementem procesów zarządczych w realizacji projektów, ujętych nie tylko w oddolnych procesach decyzyjnych, ale również ich wsparciu metodycznym. Zdaniem Autorów warto również doprecyzować pojęcia społecznej odpowiedzialności projektów oraz zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami. Analizie tych właśnie zagadnień został poświęcony niniejszy artykuł.
    Social responsibility of enterprises defines the organization’s responsibility for sustainable development, includes obligations to ensure not only the continuity of its operation, but also activities to protect the natural environment, eliminate or reduce social inequalities, including extreme poverty or attention to local economic development. Taking project management into consideration, the authors believe that projects, as the main instruments of organizational development, should take into account elements of sustainable development regarding the way of organizing work, planning its execution, partial products, and final results. In this approach, it is worth emphasizing that responsibility for the area of sustainable development should be perceived as a natural element of the project scope, and taking responsibility for this area should become a customary element of management processes in project implementation, included not only in bottom-up decision-making processes but also in their methodological support. According to the authors, it is also worth clarifying the concepts of social responsibility of projects and sustainable project management. This article is devoted to the analysis of these issues.

    Introduction/background: It is highly probable that the criteria for assessing the implementation of public projects as successful will be different, depending on the point of view of the representatives of individual groups of stakeholders. In the paper, we present, after a brief introduction to the problems of design and the specifics of public projects, the results of surveys conducted among representatives of local governments, representatives of local communities (city citizens) and representatives of people professionally involved in project management. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to capture the criteria and conditions for the success of public projects common to various groups of stakeholders. Materials and methods: Surveys were used as the research method and the questionnaire contained two open-ended questions. The research took the form of a direct interview. The analysis was performed using cross tables and a weighted average. Results and conclusions: Research results indicate that criteria and conditions common to all groups of stakeholders exist and the most important are the fulfillment of basic project parameters (time, quality, costs) as a success criterion, and reliable examination/identification of the residents' needs (social consultations) as a condition for success.

    Environmental resources management and protection, as well as spatial planning in accordance with sustainable development principles, are most important factors in creating positive image and the strategies for the cities. An example of a large, innovative environmental project implementation is Central Sewage Treatment Plant in Kozieglowy in the agglomeration of Poznan, installations and equipment impact assessment studies. An important part of the project were mediations, which were started in May 2011, until the end of April 2012.

    Introduction/background: It is highly probable that the criteria for assessing the implementation of public projects as successful will be different, depending on the point of view of the representatives of individual groups of stakeholders. In the paper, we present, after a brief introduction to the problems of design and the specifics of public projects, the results of surveys conducted among representatives of local governments, representatives of local communities (city citizens) and representatives of people professionally involved in project management. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to capture the criteria and conditions for the success of public projects common to various groups of stakeholders. Materials and methods: Surveys were used as the research method and the questionnaire contained two open-ended questions. The research took the form of a direct interview. The analysis was performed using cross tables and a weighted average. Results and conclusions: Research results indicate that criteria and conditions common to all groups of stakeholders exist and the most important are the fulfillment of basic project parameters (time, quality, costs) as a success criterion, and reliable examination/identification of the residents' needs (social consultations) as a condition for success.

    Opis:
    Zjednoczone wspólnoty terytorialne to są nowe jednostki strukturalne w systemie administracyjnym Ukrainy. Oprócz problemów związanych z regulacjami prawnymi i zapewnieniem finansowania istotne znaczenie mają kwestie naukowego i metodycznego uzasadnienia procesów strategicznego rozwoju zjednoczonych społeczności terytorialnych w oparciu o nowoczesne metody i dobre praktyki zarządzania projektami. W artykule przedstawiono podejścia metodyczne do tworzenia i zarządzania portfolio projektowymi w celu wdrożenia strategii zrównoważonego rozwoju zjednoczonych społeczności terytorialnych w oparciu o model zarządzania projektem zorientowany na wartości. Zostały wypracowane organizacyjne aspekty wprowadzenia zarządzania projektami w zjednoczonych terytorialnych wspólnotach, przejawiające się w utworzeniu projektowego biura (komitetu) ds. zarządzania strategiami. Proponowane podejścia do utworzenia strategii terytorialnych pomogą zapewnić rozwój gospodarczy wspólnoty oraz skuteczność wykorzystania zasobów wspólnotowych.
    The unified territorial communities are new structural units in the administrative system of Ukraine. In addition to the problems of regulatory and financial nature, issues of scientific and methodological substantiation of the processes of strategic development of the unified territorial communities on the principles of applying modern methodologies and project management practices are also relevant. The article develops methodological approaches to the formation and management of project portfolios for the implementation of strategies for the sustainable development of unified territorial communities on the principles of applying a value-oriented model of project management. The organizational aspects of the introduction of project management in the united territorial communities have been developed based on the creation of a project management office (committee) for managing strategies. The proposed approaches to the formation of territorial strategies will help to ensure the community's economic development and the effectiveness of utilizing the resources available to the communities.
    Объединенные территориальные общины являются новыми структурными единицами в системе административного уклада Украины. Рядом с проблемами нормативно-правового регулирования и обеспечения финансовой возможности, актуальными являются также вопросы научно-методического обоснования процессов стратегического развития объединенных территориальных общин на принципах применения современных методологий и практик управления проектами. В статье разработаны методические подходы к формированию и управлению портфелями проектов реализации стратегий устойчивого развития объединенных территориальных общин на принципах применения ценностно- ориентированной модели проектного менеджмента. Развито организационные аспекты ввода проектного управления в объединенных территориальных общинах на основе создания проектного офиса (комитета) управления стратегиями. Предложенные подходы относительно формирования территориальных стратегий, позволят обеспечить экономическое развитие общины и эффективность использования ресурсов, которые имеются в общины.

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present part of a report on stakeholder analysis (indicating the importance of stakeholder identification and prioritisation) in projects implemented by sustainability-oriented teams. Design/methodology/approach: The results were obtained based on a focus group interview with forty-eight participants - representtatives of different organisations, experienced in project management and possessing expertise on the tourism industry in Pomerania. The study was carried out in Gdańsk, from May to September 2021. Findings: The results of the study showed that an effective policy regarding sustainable development measures should be based on intensive stakeholder outreach. The determinant of this effectiveness is to entail proper and comprehensive stakeholder identification, which can play a key role in the success of any investment. Research limitations/implications: The purpose of the marketing research on stakeholder identification and mapping is to provide insights on the public opinion in this regard. In the course of the study, some limitations were recognised. Firstly, the sampling techniques involving audience generation and data filtering, such as data collection from only those persons who had participated in a focus survey, certainly resulted in a bias in the type of the data collected. Secondly, the study, due to the outbreak of the pandemic, was limited to 2021 only, and despite the implementation of selected projects in five countries in the South Baltic region, it was conducted in Poland exclusively, due to limited travel possibilities. Practical implications: The research was commissioned by a real project team and concerned the operating environment of the tourism enterprises in the Pomerania region. The survey results were applied in practice and served as a project implementation indicator. Social implications: The research topic of stakeholder identification as a component of sustainable development policy undoubtedly has impact on the society. This is because it leads to the promotion of an approach that takes the balance between the actions undertaken for the environment and the local community as well as corporate profit generation into account. Originality/value: It is the first study of this kind (on the Polish market at the least), examining the sustainable development approach in international projects, in the context of stakeholder outreach.
