Opis:
The purpose of this article is to investigate the positioning of CSR-related objectives within the structure of corporate innovation objectives of firms. The study is based on firm level data from Polish wave of Community Innovation Survey for 2008-2010. Analysis shows that CSR-related innovation objectives are aimed at building cost-based competitive advantage. Moreover, we show that better performing innovators indicate higher importance of CSR-related objectives than less successful innovators. Finally, we argue that the lowest importance of CSR-related objectives in whole structure of innovation objectives for all studied Polish innovating firms indicates that CSR is still not fully embedded in their corporate strategies.

The aim of this paper is to develop a framework for sustainable financial innovation, especially in banking intermediation. The author proceeds in two stages: first, tying the term of sustainable innovation to various paradigms of the role of banks in the economy in order to address that particular innovation clearly to a bank in a way that takes Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) ideas into account. There has been no such approach to recognizing and interpreting financial innovation and sustainable financial innovation in banking intermediation in the existing theoretical achievements of banking. Secondly, examining the difference between sustainable innovation and incremental innovation. In the conclusion, the author presents the results of compiling three research perspectives (the role of banks, RRI, sustainable innovation versus incremental innovation) into an integrated approach to interpreting the term of sustainable financial innovation in banking intermediation.
Celem opracowania jest rozszerzenie ram poznawczych dla zrównoważonych innowacji finansowych w banku i bankowości. Uwaga jest skoncentrowana na określeniu istoty i interpretacji zrównoważonej innowacji finansowej w odniesieniu do banku i jego działalności depozytowo-kredytowej. Termin zrównoważona innowacja finansowa zostanie powiązany z różnymi paradygmatami roli banku w gospodarce, równocześnie uwzględniając postulaty „Odpowiedzialne badania i innowacje” (RRI). Następnie wykorzystana zostanie perspektywa różnicująca zrównoważoną innowację i innowację typu stopniowe ulepszenia (incremental innovation). Finalnie zostanie przedstawiony efekt kompilacji trzech perspektyw poznawczych (rola banku, RRI, zrównoważona innowacja versus innowacja typu stopniowe ulepszenia).

This article presents new concepts and practical approaches resulting from the piloting of CASI-F – a common framework for the assessment and management of sustainable innovation (SI). Based on lessons learned from action research carried out in the context of the EU funded CASI project, the article focuses on the meta-analysis of 46 action roadmaps produced with 43 innovators supporting the practical application of CASI-F. The applied methodology helped to demonstrate that a multi-level and multi-actor advice approach promotes a shift towards improved understanding of innovations-related critical issues (barriers, drivers, opportunities and threats) and stakeholders’ relations, as well as their management, thus promoting the sustainable resilience and transformation of socio-technical systems. This paper first reflects on how we arrived to managerial lessons from the actions roadmaps and how could these lessons be used to assess the current state of affairs and potential way forward for European initiatives and instruments promoting sustainable innovation.

Niniejsze opracowanie stanowi próbę teoretycznego ujęcia problematyki ekoinnowacji w kontekście zrównoważonego rozwoju organizacji. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie tematyki innowacji ekologicznych na gruncie organizacyjnym, w oparciu o cele zawarte w ramach koncepcji. Na podstawie literatury przedmiotu oraz dostępnych opracowań naukowych dokonano opisu koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju, w którym zawarto krótką genezę idei oraz jej cele. Wyjaśniono pojęcie i rodzaje innowacji. Określono istotę ekoinnowacji oraz przedstawiono ich rolę jako narzędzia wsparcia zrównoważonego rozwoju w organizacji. Hipoteza badawcza niniejszego opracowania jest następująca: wdrażanie innowacji ekologicznych ma pozytywny wpływ na zrównoważony rozwój organizacji, który przejawia się m.in. w zwiększonej odpowiedzialności społecznej oraz optymalizacji wykorzystania zasobów. W celu weryfikacji postawionej hipotezy posłużono się metodą analizy i syntezy zgromadzonych źródeł (desk research).
This study attempts to theoretically approach the issue of eco-innovation in the context of organizational sustainability. The purpose of the article is to introduce the subject of eco-innovation on organizational grounds, based on the objectives contained in the framework of the concept. Based on the literature on the subject and available scientific studies, a description of the concept of sustainable development was made, which includes a brief genesis of the idea and its goals. The concept and types of innovation were explained. The essence of eco-innovation was defined and its role as a tool for supporting sustainable development in an organization was presented. The research hypothesis of this study is as follows: the implementation of ecological innovations has a positive impact on the sustainable development of an organization, which is manifested, among other things, in increased social responsibility and the optimization of resource utilization. In order to verify the hypothesis, the method of analysis and synthesis of collected sources (desk research) was used.

Sweden’s agriculture industry has faced many challenges in recent years. Among the most severe challenges are the decrease in the number of small and medium-sized farms, the decrease in the number of people employed in agricultural activities, and the increase in governmental regulations and legislation governing such activities. At the same time, the demand that agriculture contributes to sustainable social and ecological development has increased. Although research shows that sustainable business model innovation (SBMI) contributes to the creation of sustainable businesses and to the development of a sustainable society, Swedish agriculture has not been at the forefront in the use of SBMI. The purpose of this paper is to examine the barriers to SBMI in Swedish agriculture in order to understand why farmers seldom engage in SBMI. This qualitative study follows the Gioia methodology and data for the analysis were acquired in semi-structured interviews with entrepreneurs at six family farms in Sweden. The paper makes a theoretical contribution to the research on SBMI with its focus on sustainable entrepreneurship in the Swedish agricultural industry. The paper concludes that the barriers to SBMI are external, internal, and contextual.

Background: Big data and predictive analytics could improve the ability to help with the sustainability of sourcing decisions. Sustainability has become a necessary goal for businesses and a powerful strategy for competitive advantage. There's a need for sustainable innovations along the supply chain to enable companies to have a strong market presence. Developing absorptive capacity both in firms and in supply chains are also integral to responding to dynamic markets and customer needs. The main objective of this paper is to identify the features of big data and predictive analytics applied to sustainable supply chain innovation, and to analyze the role of absorptive capacity. Methods: A literature review investigates how absorptive capacity affects the impact of the utilization of big data and predictive analytics on sustainable supply chain innovation. Results: This paper proposes a conceptual framework linking the different elements. It also proposes a synthesis of the existing definitions of the used concepts. In particular, the role of absorptive capacity as enabler on Big Data and Predictive Analytics on sustainable supply chain innovation is stressed. Conclusions: The paper investigates the emerging paradigm of big data and predictive analytics. The conceptual framework use theoretical foundation of absorptive capacity, and the extant literature on Big Data and predictive analytics. This framework will help us to build a research model for sustainable supply chain innovation applications. Further work is required to develop an action research methodology for validating the framework in depth within a company.
Wstęp: Zastosowanie analizy big data oraz estymacji umożliwiają lepsze zrównoważenie decyzji wykorzystania zasobów. Rozwój zrównoważony stał się niezbędnym celem biznesowym i potężną strategią uzyskania przewagi konkurencyjnej. Można zaobserwować rosnące zapotrzebowania na zrównoważone innowacje w obrębie łańcucha dostaw, umożliwiające przedsiębiorstwom silny wpływ na rynek. Rozwój zdolności absorpcyjnej zarówno w firmach jak i w łańcuchach dostaw jest zintegrowane z potrzebami konsumentów oraz dynamicznych rynków. Głównym celem tej pracy było zidentyfikowanie cech analizy big data oraz estymacji istotnych dla zrównoważonych innowacji w obrębie łańcucha dostaw oraz analiza roli zdolności absorpcyjnej. Metody: Podstawą pracy był przegląd literatury, umożliwiający analizę wpływu zdolności absorpcyjnych na zastosowanie analizy big data oraz estymacji dla osiągnięcia zrównoważonej innowacyjności w obrębie łańcucha dostaw. Wyniki: Zaproponowano koncepcję rozwiązania łączącą różne elementy. Zaproponowano również syntezę istniejących definicji stosowanych koncepcji. W szczególności, rolę zdolności absorpcyjnych jako elementu umożliwiającego stosowanie analizy big data oraz estymacji dla zrównoważonej innowacyjności w obrębie łańcucha dostaw. Wnioski: W pracy badano pojawiający się paradygmat analizy big data oraz estymacji. Koncepcja oparta jest na zastosowaniu zdolności absorpcyjnej oraz istniejących danych literaturowych i ich wpływu na analizę big data. Praca pomaga zbudować model badawczy dla zrównoważonych innowacji w obrębie łańcucha dostaw. Zwrócono uwagę na potrzebę kontynuowania badań w tym zakresie.

Aim: Questionnaire research can be used as a teaching instrument and to measure the impacts of education for sustainable development. This paper presents a case study of a teaching intervention regarding students’ perception of operations and (supply) management fragilities, such as dependency on few customers or suppliers; difficult to find employees; and low probability, high impact events for business sustainability. The teaching intervention focused on side effects of innovations, leading to vulnerabilities that can threaten the existence of an enterprise. This research was carried out in the context of the capacity for creating an Early Warning System for small probability, high impact events. The following issues are addressed in the paper: 1). The impact of the teaching intervention on students’ perceptions; 2). Differences in perception between non-attending (N = 128) and attending students (pre-test N = 139; post-test N = 119). Design / Research methods: This paper discusses whether teaching interventions can influence the awareness of fragility issues as well as low probability, high impact events. The case-study is based on an experiment in a marketing course for management students of a large private business school in Wrocław (Poland) in April–May 2019. Before start of classes students filled out a questionnaire (Attending Students). A teaching intervention slide was used in every lecture. At the end of the course, all students (also the students absent during the first classes) filled out the repeat questionnaire. Statistical analysis was carried out whether there were differences between Attending Students filling out both questionnaires, and students only filling out the repeat questionnaire (Non Attending Students). Conclusions / findings: The findings show that students struggle to grasp the complexities and uncertainties surrounding sustainability and fragility issues in relation to the business context. The teaching interventions had limited impact on the ability of students to engage in these issues, albeit significant differences between attending and non-attending students were observed. A limitation of the results is that this study only concerned a case study of a specific group of students. An implication requiring deeper research is that while teachers can do in-depth exercises and provide lectures, a part of the students, being less motivated to obtain knowledge, is unlikely to grasp sustainability issues, when not included in assignments, examination preparation, or compulsory rather than elective courses. Dotychczasowe podejścia do wdrażania zrównoważonego rozwoju są niewystarczające, aby tworzyć prawdziwie rewolucyjne transformacje organizacji, rynków i społeczeństw. W efekcie stoimy jako ludzkość na progu katastrofy ekologicznej i jej bardzo poważnych konsekwencji społeczno-gospodarczych. W obliczu współczesnych wyzwań zrównoważonego rozwoju potrzeba szybkiej i radykalnej zmiany w podejściu do relacji łączących świat biznesu, zagadnienia społeczne oraz kwestie związane z ochroną środowiska naturalnego. W tym kontekście na uwagę zasługuje koncepcja zrównoważonych modeli biznesowych, która rozszerza dotychczasowe rozumienie roli biznesu w rozwiązywaniu problemów społeczno-ekologicznych. Celem artykułu jest przeanalizowanie bieżącego stanu wiedzy na temat zrównoważonych modeli biznesowych i zaprezentowanie podstawowych pojęć, założeń oraz definicji z tego zakresu. Przyjęta metoda badawcza to analiza i synteza anglojęzycznych źródeł literaturowych. Artykuł jest teoretyczny i ma charakter publikacji przeglądowej. Wskazano w nim miejsce badań nad zrównoważonymi modelami biznesowymi we współczesnych pracach naukowych. Zwrócono uwagę na koncepcję wartości jako element łączący logikę modelu biznesowego i zrównoważonego modelu biznesowego. Przeanalizowano i zaprezentowano różne podejścia do zrównoważonych modeli biznesowych i próby ich zdefiniowania oraz wskazano propozycje kryteriów dla tego typu przedsięwzięć. Podkreślono także rolę innowacji w zrównoważonych modelach biznesowych i przedstawiono ich rodzaje. Na koniec zwrócono uwagę na ewolucję podejścia do zrównoważonych modeli biznesowych, a także możliwy kierunek rozwoju tej koncepcji.
The previous approaches to the implementation of sustainable development are insufficient to create truly revolutionary transformations of organizations, markets and societies. As a result, humanity is on the verge of an ecological catastrophe which will have extremely serious socio-economic consequences. In the face of contemporary challenges of sustainable development, there is a need for a rapid and radical change in the approach of business to people and the natural environment. In this context, the concept of sustainable business models deserves attention, as it extends the existing understanding of the role of business in solving social and environmental problems. The aim of the article is to analyze the current state of knowledge and present the basic concepts, assumptions and definitions of sustainable business models. This is a review paper. The adopted research method is ananalysis and synthesis of English-language literature sources. At the beginning, the article indicates the place of research on sustainable business models in contemporary scientific works. Next, attention is paid to the concept of value as an element combining the logic of a business model and a sustainable business model. In the main part, various approaches and attempts to define sustainable business models and criteria for this type of projects are analyzed and presented. The role and types of innovation in sustainable business models are also presented. Finally, the evolution of the approaches to sustainable business models is considered, as well as the ways in which this concept might develop in the future.

Though the issue of eco-innovation is a new category in economic sciences, it is seen by farmers as a way to attain competitive advantage in the global market more and more often. The main determinants of implementation of eco-innovation in the economy are the formal and legal regulations and market factors. The primary purpose of eco-innovation is to reduce negative environmental impact of agricultural activity and to produce food that is good for people. The aim of this article is to present the issue of eco-innovation and to indicate strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats for agriculture that result from their implementation.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zagadnienia ekoinnowacji oraz wskazanie silnych i słabych stron oraz szans i zagrożeń dla rolnictwa z ich wprowadzania. Mimo że zagadnienie ekoinnowacji jest nową kategorią w naukach ekonomicznych, to staje się coraz częściej dostrzegane przez rolników jako sposób na uzyskanie przewagi konkurencyjnej na globalnym rynku. Główne determinanty wdrażania innowacji ekologicznych w gospodarce to regulacje formalno-prawne oraz czynniki o charakterze rynkowym. Celem innowacji ekologicznych jest przede wszystkim zmniejszenie negatywnych skutków działalności rolniczej na środowisko naturalne, jak również produkcja żywności przyjaznej dla ludzi.

This paper examines the innovation and employability of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for sustainable development in south-east Nigeria. The research design employed for this study was a descriptive survey. The population for this study comprises all NYSC members serving in southeast Nigeria. A purposive sampling technique was used to sample all 2019 Batch “C” who participated in the Post Mobilisation Workshop held on 27t - 29t January 2020. Also, a simple random sampling technique was used to select 400 NYSC members from each state of south-east Nigeria. In all, 2000 NYSC members participated in this study. The questionnaire that was used to collect data in this study was titled “Influence of Innovation on Employability of NYSC Members for Sustainable Development Questionnaire”. Percentages were used in describing the demographic characteristics of the respondents, and mean ratings were used to answer the research questions. The findings revealed that influence of innovation on employability of NYSC members for sustainable development in south-east Nigeria was positive. The main new innovation to enhance employability of NYSC members for sustainable development in south-east Nigeria was agro-allied. The main employability skills of NYSC members for sustainable development in south-east Nigeria were confidence skills. It was concluded that innovation positively influences employability of NYSC members. It was recommended that the NYSC commission should embark on introducing more innovative skills to NYSC members for them to be able to stand on their own after the NYSC programme.

Aim/purpose – The key aim of the paper is to examine the diffusion of the sustainable investing Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) on the European and US ETFs markets, with the special focus on the market shares of sustainable investing and conventional funds. Design/methodology/approach – The model of diffusion of innovation (logistic growth model) is applied. Monthly data on the assets of ETFs in the time period of 2006-2017 are used. Findings – Increasing assets of sustainable investing ETFs were identified in both examined regions. The average value of assets was higher in the United States, but the European market became larger in the late 2017. Exclusively for Europe, the diffusion of sustainable investing ETFs was confirmed for the entire analysed time period as the market share of this category was increasing in relation to the conventional funds. In the United States, the diffusion was short-lived and took place in the time period 2006-2008. Research implications/limitations – Applied diffusion models assume an S-shaped trajectory of the innovation’s diffusion and the estimations are sensitive to historical data. Originality/value/contribution – It is the first study to apply the methodological framework of innovation diffusion for the examination of the sustainable financial products. It addresses an issue of switching between sustainable investing and conventional financial products that has not been examined previously.

Research background: As an outcome of a global consensus on combating climate change, green finance is expected to play an important role in promoting green growth and innovation progress. Some studies note that green credit policy yields a negative influence on green innovation, while how green finance affects renewable energy innovation has received scant attention in academia. This study focuses on the impact of green finance on renewable energy innovation. Purpose of the article: This research investigates the influence of green finance on an economy's renewable energy innovation by using green bond data from the Climate Bonds Initiative. This research further tests whether it varies for different kinds of energy types and economic development levels. Given that policies are key to renewable energy technology development, this research checks whether government stability changes the relationship between green finance and renewable energy innovation. Methods: Using the panel fixed effects model and big-scale data from 64 economies worldwide during the period 2014-2019, we investigate green finance's impact on renewable energy innovation. In the robustness test, the dynamic panel model and the panel Tobit model are employed. Findings & value added: This research finds that green finance has a positive effect on renewable energy innovation. This effect is prominent in non-OECD economies as well as middle-income and low-income economies. Government stability enhances the influence of green finance on renewable energy innovation. Moreover, the results indicate that green finance mainly promotes innovation progress for wind energy and produces little effect for other renewable energies. The subsample analysis also sheds light on the heterogeneity of the role of green finance in promoting renewable energy innovation.

According to the Europe 2020 Strategy, the European’s countries development should be based on three interrelated priorities: smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. All this priorities should be based on the increasing role of knowledge and innovation as the driving forces of future sustainable growth. The aim of this article is not to consider these categories separately, but their combination which allowed to present the possibilities and advantages for enterprises, resulting from the innovative activity directed at the sustainable development, using the sustainable management and sustainable production.
Zgodnie ze strategią Europa 2020, rozwój krajów europejskich powinien opierać się na trzech powiązanych ze sobą priorytetach: inteligentnym, zrównoważonym i sprzyjającym włączeniu społecznemu wzrostowi. Z kolei wszystkie w/w priorytety powinny czerpać z wiedzy i innowacji jako sił napędowych przyszłego wzrostu. W niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę ukazania zagadnień zrównoważonego rozwoju w aspekcie zarządzania innowacjami i odpowiedzi na pytanie: w jaki sposób zrównoważony rozwój wpływa na zarządzanie działalnością innowacyjną? Celem artykułu nie jest rozpatrywanie tych kategorii oddzielnie, ale ich połączenie, co pozwoliło na zaprezentowanie możliwości i korzyści dla przedsiębiorstw wynikające z działalności innowacyjnej ukierunkowanej na zrównoważony rozwój, wykorzystujących zrównoważone zarządzanie, zrównoważoną produkcję.

Porto Alegre, a city in south Brazil, was a pioneer in participatory budgeting in the 1990s, and a decade later it hosted the World Social Forum. These days Porto Alegre is the first place in the world with a Sustainable Innovation Zone. The goal of this endeavour is to transform the city into the most innovative and sustainable city in Latin America by 2030. In the article, the author examines the projects completed to date and the entities involved. Then, the author compares the experiences of Porto Alegre and Poznań.
Porto Alegre, miasto w południowej Brazylii, było w latach 90. XX wieku pionierem w dziedzinie budżetu partycypacyjnego, dekadę później odbywało się tam Światowe Forum Społeczne. Obecnie Porto Alegre jest pierwszym miejscem na świecie, w którym powstał Obszar Zrównoważonej Innowacji. Celem tego przedsięwzięcia jest transformacja miasta w najbardziej innowacyjne i zrównoważone miasto w Ameryce Łacińskiej do 2030 roku. W artykule autorka przygląda się zrealizowanym do tej pory projektom oraz zaangażowanym w nie podmiotom W dalszej części artykułu autorka porównuje doświadczenie Porto Alegre z Poznaniem.
