Transport is generally an instrument for globalization. It is not possible to use transport as an instrument for de-globalization. For compensating the negative effects of globalization on regional and local markets, a world-wide sustainable development process is to be started. This is an idea propagated by United Nations since the publishing of the Brundtland-Report. Sustainability has three components: the social, the ecological and the economic sustainability. Economic sustainability is realized when the (transport) enterprises make no profits and setting the prices is following a price-wage-rule. This rule postulates that the price and wage have to be equal. However, transport can also set incentives for social and ecological sustainability. Transport is no instrument for de-globalization, but an important instrument for compensating the negative effects of globalization. The measures which transport policy has to realize sustainability are not new, but we need to a new world-wide concept for transport policy. We have to accept, that the world is one economic area and not more than two hundred areas. We need only one set of economic rules and not over hundred different sets of rules.

Rozwój miast i regionów, wzrost konsumpcji społeczeństwai produkcji w przedsiębiorstwach i związanym z tym transportem ładunków pogłębił problemy transportowe, takie jak: zanieczyszczenie powietrza, wody, gleby, kongestię, produkcję odpadów, zdarzenia drogowe, czy intensywne wykorzystanie paliw kopalnianych. Ich występowanie negatywnie wpływa na całe społeczeństwo, gospodarkę i jakość środowiska. Obecnie coraz większego znaczenia nabiera koncepcja zrównoważonego rozwoju i zrównoważonego transportu. Kreacja zielonego transportu osób i ładunków wymaga zaangażowania władz publicznych. Wśród narzędzi, jakie mogą wykorzystywać, wymienia się np. budowę systemu Park and Ride, poprawę jakości miejskiego transportu zbiorowego oraz promocję transportu kombinowanego (intermodalnego). Niezmiernie ważna przy tworzeniu transportu ekologicznego jest postawa przedsiębiorstw produkcyjnych, transportowych, logistycznych i spedycyjnych. Transport drogowy, kolejowy, lotniczy, morski i śródlądowy stanowi ważny element łańcucha dostaw i służy do przewozu surowców, materiałów, półproduktów i produktów. Wśród narzędzi wykorzystywanych przez firmy w działaniach na rzecz zrównoważonego transportu wymienia się: jak najlepsze wykorzystanie przestrzeni ładunkowej w środkach transportu, szkolenia pracowników w obszarze ekologicznej jazdy, wykorzystanie transportu kolejowego do przewozów ładunku, modernizację floty pojazdów, a także działanie zgodne z założeniami koncepcji greenbuildings. Artykuł omawia koncepcję zrównoważonego transportu oraz wskazuje narzędzia wykorzystywane w przedsiębiorstwach międzynarodowych na rzecz redukcji emisji CO2. Systematyczne i równoległe działania podejmowane w sektorze publicznym i prywatnym to lekarstwo na problemy transportowe miast i regionów.
Development of cities, regions, growing consumption of community and increasing production have resulted in growth of transport problems such as: pollution of air, water and soil, congestion, traffic incidents, excessive use of fossil fuels. These problems have negative influence on society, economy and environment. Presently the concept of sustainable development and sustainable transport is of growing importance. In creating green passenger transport and goods involvement of public authorities is necessary. Among the tools that can be used are: creation of the Park and Ride system, improvement quality of rail and urban public transport, promotion of the combined public transport. Green transport development depends on attitude of the production, transport, logistic and shipping companies. Road, rail, air and sea transport is an important element of the supply chain and is used to transport of products, semi–finished products and raw materials. When creating ecological transport companies can use different tools like: the most effective use of the cargo space in vehicles, eco–driving trainings for the staff, rail freight transport, modernization of the fleet of vehicles and implementation of green buildings conception. The article discusses the concept of sustainable transport and identifies tools used in international companies to reduce CO2 emissions. Systematic and parallel activities in the public and private sectors may be the cure for transport problems of cities and regions.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analizy procesów rozwoju regionalnego sektorów TSL (ST) wielkich systemów społeczno-terytorialnych (STS) w kontekście zjawisk globalizacyjnych i glokalizacyjnych. Analiza klasteryzacji terytorialnej i funkcjonalnej jest oparta o modele korelacyjne dynamiki czasowej i zbieżności strukturalno-funkcjonalnej infrastruktury kolejowej jako bazy ST w skalach czasowych – 150, 50 i 30 lat z oceną kwasi-okresowości i zbieżności na zbiorze 56 państw i wielkich STS – hiper-regionów z najbardziej rozwiniętymi ST. Udowodniono zmienność okresowości cykli zbieżności procesów i możliwość identyfikacji STS jako hiper-regionów transportowych.
Some results of analysis of regional development of great social-territorial systems’ (STS) sectors TSL (ST) in context of globalization and glocalization phenomena are presented. Analysis territorial and functional clustering is based on correlative models of time-dynamics and structural-functional convergence of ST-processes at STS. The changes in railroad infrastructure (as base of analysis) has been estimated in time scales 150, 50 and 30 years with evaluation of periodicity and convergence on set of 56 states and great STS – hyper-regions with most developed structures of ST. The variances of convergence cycles of ST infrastructural and functionality developing processes, and the possibilities of identification of STS as the transporting hyper-regions have been proved.

Artykuł prezentuje metody modelowania semantycznego procesów zachodzących w sektorze transportu państw członkowskich UE i analizę historyczno-systemową grupy systemów terytorialno-społecznych (STS) w porównywaniu z innymi systemami. Za podstawę przyjęto semantykę opartą na taksonomii transportu kolejowego. Badano zmiany infrastruktury i pracy przewozowej na tle procesów wytwarzania PKB. Analizą objęto retrospektywnie okresy 30-, 20- i 15-letnie. Modelowanie identyfikuje zmiany fazowe w STS, obiektywizuje oceny wpływu czynników geopolitycznych na rozwój i trendy przed- i pokryzysowe.
The article presents the semantic modeling methods used for study of transportation sectors evolution at EU-members groups – social-territorial systems (STS) with comparison to other systems. The main goal of modeling is the evaluation of geopolitical processes influence on convergence and sustainability of economics development. The base semantics to comparison is railroad transportation taxonomy of infrastructure, freight haulage and passengers carriage in projection on GDP producing processes. The analysis periods are 30-, 20-, 15-year long retrospectives. The models identify the STS phase changing making more objective evaluation of factors influence on evolution and crises trends.

Analiza jest prowadzona w kontekstach strukturalnym i funkcjonalnym z kompleksową oceną zbieżności i jest oparta na semantycznym modelowaniu.
The article presents the description of methodology and examples of case studies methods used for sustain states estimations and identification of abnormal crises dynamics. Methods are based on historical-systematic (HS-) analysis of autonormalized indexes of all modes of sectors of transportation progress (state changing) at the large social-territorial systems (STS) such as USA, European Union (EU-28) and Russian Federation. Analysis is carried out in structural and functional context and provides the complex evaluations of processes convergence (synergy).

The transport industry, and especially aviation and maritime transport, emits significant amounts of CO2, adversely affecting the environment. The Sustainable Development Goals not only indicate the need to reduce CO2 emissions, but also to provide access to information on the amount of emissions, on top of their environmental and financial impacts. The main source of this type of information is found in financial and non-financial statements prepared by entities of the transport sector. CO2 re-porting disclosures should be subject to the principle of true and fair view ensuring adequate materiality, transparency and comparability of information. The aim of the article is to assess the scope and method of reporting information on CO2 emissions in the financial and non-financial statements of selected groups of the air and maritime transport sector. By means of content analysis, disclosures on this subject were reviewed and compared against the applicable legal regulations in the field of CO2 emissions reporting for the industry. The results of the research indicate a significant differentiation in the methods of reporting, in particular relating to the valuation and presentation of CO2 emission allowances in reports on the financial position in air transport and the manner and scope of reporting non-financial information in maritime transport. The obtained results indicate insufficient comparability of the reported information and a need for harmonisation of the provisions of law regarding the scope and forms of reporting. The findings also indicate a need to combine financial and non-financial information in single reports in order to properly interpret the effects of emissions.

The importance of transport for sustainable development has become significant at the UN conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro as early as 1992. In the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which contains a total of 17 sustainability goals, sustainable transport has been anchored as a cross-cutting theme. In particular, emissions associated with transport are a problem for the sustainable development goals and have to be reduced. The objective of this paper is to analyze transport-related indicators in relation to sustainable development in the period from 2005 to 2016 at the national level. The method of secondary analysis is used. The results demonstrate only one indicator corresponding to the goal of sustainable development. However, two indicators do not correspond to a sustainable development in the considered period. Thus, appropriate measures have become necessary for these particular facts promoting a sustainable development.

W artykule przedstawiono krótki przegląd możliwych zastosowań biogazu. Pokazano, że biogaz/biometan może być wykorzystany na wiele różnych sposobów. W szczególności przedyskutowano następujące zastosowania: biometan jako paliwo transportowe, biometan jako perspektywiczne paliwo kotłowe w przemyśle biopaliwowym, biometan jako surowiec do produkcji konwencjonalnych paliw silnikowych, biometan jako wartościowy surowiec w innych gałęziach przemysłu. Dla każdej z wymienionych ścieżek przedyskutowano potrzeby i zalety udowodnienia spełnienia kryteriów zrównoważonego rozwoju. W przypadku wykorzystania biometanu jako paliwa transportowego lub jako surowca do produkcji konwencjonalnych paliw silnikowych prawnie wymagane jest spełnienie kryteriów zrównoważonego rozwoju i certyfikacja. W innych przypadkach oczekiwania odbiorcy w zakresie spełnienia kryteriów zrównoważonego rozwoju mogą być wyższe niż wymagania prawne, np. jeśli biometan jest wykorzystywany jako paliwo kotłowe w celu obniżenia emisji GHG dla procesu przetwarzania w zakładzie produkującym biopaliwo. Zwiększenie możliwości zatłaczania biometanu do sieci gazu ziemnego pozwala na zapewnienie biosurowca dla innych gałęzi przemysłu wykorzystujących metan i tym samym powoduje, że produkcja innych dóbr jest bardziej przyjazna dla środowiska. W artykule przedstawiono różne modele integracji biogazowni z przemysłem paliwowym i biopaliwowym. Aspekty związane z kryteriami zrównoważonego rozwoju są zasadnicze z punktu widzenia certyfikacji, dlatego również zostały przedyskutowane w artykule. Obecnie w Polsce zakłady produkujące biogaz pracują głównie na rzecz produkcji energii elektrycznej, ale niektóre podmioty dostarczają i ciepło, i energię elektryczną (w przypadku kogeneracji). Aby biometan stał się bardziej powszechnym surowcem lub paliwem kotłowym, konieczne jest wprowadzenie go do sieci gazu ziemnego. W artykule pokrótce wspomniano również o wyzwaniach, z którymi musi zmierzyć się przemysł biogazowy, aby ten produkt stał się szeroko wykorzystywany.

Railway infrastructure access rates, as an important element of the costs affecting the services offered to railway clients, are an object of interest in the context of transport sustainability and the promotion of railway transport. The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has spawned a crisis that has affected the railway sector in a significant way. In October 2020, the European Commission published a Regulation establishing measures for a sustainable rail market in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The European Commission’s initiative of introducing a Regulation allowing for derogations from existing laws, as well as satisfying the urgent needs of the railway sector for the duration of the effects of the pandemic, may be a significant step towards a permanent leveling of the playing field for all of the branches competing in the transport sector. This article presents information in terms of the legal regulations concerning the charges for infrastructure use and outlines the assumptions of Regulation 2020/1429 (EU) of the European Parliament and of the Council.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to evaluate the development of the public EV charging station infrastructure in Poland, at the same time attempting to identify any dysfunctional areas of the process. Design/methodology/approach: A critical analysis of the domestic and foreign research outputs regarding the importance and development of public charging station infrastructures. An analysis of secondary data derived from statistics reports which show the level of development of the public charging station infrastructure in Poland in the 2019-2022 period. Findings: Based on the completed research it was found that the development of the public charging station infrastructure in Poland was quite dynamic. Nevertheless, an in-depth analysis of this direction of development makes it possible to identify potential problems and imperfections of that process. The most significant and accentuated problems include: (1) the disproportionately lower growth rate of the number of public charging stations in relation to the vehicle fleet electrification rate; (2) the dominating share of AC charging stations in the public charging station infrastructure, which offer a lower power level translating into longer vehicle charging times; (3) the uneven spatial distribution of the public charging station infrastructure. Practical implications: Being aware of the direction of development of the public charging station infrastructure is extremely important when it comes to formulating and implementing subsequent investment projects and business models on the market. Originality/value: Public charging station infrastructures - due to the relatively short history of operation - constitute a relatively new object of studies in economic sciences.

The article describes public transport co-modality for sustainable development of a public transport system. New strategies are needed to make the city public transport more efficient, more accessible and more sustainable. There are some concepts described in the article. The concepts are illustrated with practical examples - how it is possible to increase the capacity of infrastructure and what has been done in the city of Riga for public transport sustainable development. Key benefits of each concept are also described. A more efficient use of city space, allocated to transport improves the overall performance of all the passenger transport system. The paper presents the concept of aid - a base graph approach to calculate the territory assigned to the particular stop of public transport for the cost optimization. Efficient planning and better use of infrastructure, as well as passenger-friendly interchanges and good traffic management, allocated to public transport, bring the public transport system towards sustainability.

It is critical to develop a picture of the airlines’ economic and social characteristics to comprehend the growth potential of air transportation. In this context, sustainable reporting is a type of information report that emerges from the enterprises' economic, environmental, and social activities. Especially in recent years, airlines have preferred sustainable reporting to monitor the sustainability levels of their economic, environmental and social performances and to gain a competitive advantage. In this regard, sustainability reports disclose accurate, understandable, and sufficient information, particularly about environmental issues. Despite a boundless amount of literature on airline business models, there is a lack of studies related to the sustainable practices of airlines. One of the academic methods used to measure sustainability performance is the sustainable value-added approach, which provides for the opportunity cost. The project tries to explain the sustainable value-added method in measuring the sustainability performance and also to calculate the sustainable value-added of the first ten airlines in rankings estimated by the IATA report in 2020. This paper examines sustainable value-added results among the top ten airlines. A newly recent approach will be employed, using a content analysis of ten airlines’ documentation including sustainability and annual reports.

The study aims to estimate the air travel demand forecast for domestic passengers' travels in Nigeria from 2002-2016. Data resourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the National Bureau of Statistics, and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria. The study utilized a multiple regression model using a Stata-Graphic software solver to analyze the data. From the analysis, the result shows that there is a significant relationship between the explanatory variable (passengers) and unexplanatory variables National Disposable Income, Population, Average Airfare, Gross Domestic Product, Exchange Rate, Total Expenditure, and Crude oil price, accounted for adjusted R of 93.624% relationship with demand for domestic air travel of passenger. The R-square statistic shows that the fitted model explains the variability in the number of passengers (NPAX), which is 96.8124%. The Hypothesis testing reveals that National Disposable Income and Airfare have a strong statistically significant relationship with the demand for domestic air travel with a P-value of 0.0013. Mores, a statistically significant relationship exists between National Disposable Income, Average airfare, and Crude oil price with P-values of 0.0017 and 0.0445, respectively. Furthermore, a forecast of the number of passengers and average airfare was carried out using ARIMA (1,0,0) model, which made available the future predicted values for the number of passenger movements and average airfare for the next 10-12 years to come. Thus, the study recommends that stakeholders in the air transport sector should work towards improving the capacity and infrastructure to accommodate the growth of air travel demand for domestic air travel in Nigeria. Policy implications were made on regulating the sector by having a good pricing policy to control the air fare for the industry.

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję zastosowania rowerów towarowych w logistyce miejskiej. Przeanalizowano wyniki pilotowego wdrożenia niskoemisyjnych środków transportu w ramach projektu Low Carbon Logistics, finansowanego w ramach Interreg South Baltic Programme. Wskazano kluczowe czynniki skutecznego wdrażania tego typu rozwiązań od strony infrastrukturalnej i urbanistycznej ze szczególnym naciskiem na specyfikację środków transportu.
Paper presents the concept of using cargo bikes in city logistics. The results of pilot implementation of low-emission transport means were analyzed in the Low Carbon Logistics project, financed under the Interreg South Baltic Program. The key factors for the successful implementation of this type of solutions from the infrastructural and urbanistic approach with a particular emphasis on the specification of means of transport are indicated.
