Opis:
In this work, a genetic-algorithm-based Kriging model with multi-point addition sequence optimization strategy is addressed to make up for the shortcomings of Kriging model with single point criterion. This approach combines the multi-point addition strategy with genetic algorithm to enable the Kriging model to efficiently capture the globally optimal solution. Based on this, a multi-level surrogate method is presented by employing a local surrogate model to modify the Kriging global surrogate model, and then applied to design optimization to improve the accuracy and efficiency of global optimization. Meanwhile, a reliability design optimization method based on multi-level surrogate model is studied by dealing with the reliability constraints with an adaptive reliability penalty function. Numerical examples show that the proposed method can find the optimal solution of the object problem with the least calculation cost under the condition of satisfying the reliability constraint.

Opis:
The paper proposes a design procedure for the creation of a robust and effective hybrid algorithm, tailored to and capable of carrying out a given design optimisation task. In the course of algorithm creation, a small set of simple optimisation methods is chosen, out of which those performing best will constitute the hybrid algorithm. The simplicity of the method allows implementing ad-hoc modifications if unexpected adverse features of the optimisation problem are found. It is postulated to model a system that is smaller but conceptually equivalent, whose model is much simpler than the original one and can be used freely during algorithm construction. Successful operation of the proposed approach is presented in two case studies (power plant set-point optimisation and waveguide bend shape optimisation). The proposed methodology is intended to be used by those not having much knowledge of the system or modelling technology, but having the basic practice in optimisation. It is designed as a compromise between brute force optimisation and design optimisation preceded by a refined study of the underlying problem. Special attention is paid to cases where simulation failures (regardless of their nature) form big obstacles in the course of the optimisation process.

Opis:
This paper investigates improving the leading-edge of a hydrofoil with sinusoidal protuberances based on its hydrodynamic performance. The original hydrofoil geometry was inspired by the leading edge of the flipper of a humpback whale. A multi-step optimization process was performed for a 634-021 hydrofoil. The free-form deformation technique defined the shape parameters as a variable design, and these parameters included the amplitude of the leading-edge protuberances, which ranged from 0 to 20% of the chord length, and the corrugate span, with 3 and 4 crests. The flow characteristics of a parametric hydrofoil were examined using a CFD solver, and the lift, drag, and lift-to-drag ratio (L/D) were computed as responses to the optimization cycle. To accomplish this, two design study methods were sequentially applied at different angles of attack. A full factorial design sweep tool was applied that went through all parameter value combinations, and an RBF-based surrogate model was constructed to investigate the system behavior. The results indicated the existence of an optimum design point, and the highest L/D ratio was determined to be 10.726 at a 12° angle of attack.

Opis:
A simulation-based optimization approach to design of phase excitation tapers for linear phased antenna arrays is presented. The design optimization process is accelerated by means of Surrogate-Based Optimization (SBO); it uses a coarse-mesh surrogate of the array element for adjusting the array’s active reflection coefficient responses and a fast surrogate of the antenna array radiation pattern. The primary optimization objective is to minimize side-lobes in the principal plane of the radiation pattern while scanning the main beam. The optimization outcome is a set of element phase excitation tapers versus the scan angle. The design objectives are evaluated at the high fidelity level of description using simulations of the discrete electromagnetic model of the entire array so that the effects of element coupling and other possible interaction within the array structure are accounted for. At the same time, the optimization process is fast due to SBO. Performance and numerical cost of the approach are demonstrated by optimizing a 16-element linear array of microstrip antennas. Experimental verification has been carried out for a manufactured prototype of the optimized array. It demonstrates good agreement between the radiation patterns obtained from simulations and from physical measurements (the latter constructed through superposition of the measured element patterns).

W artykule zaprezentowano inteligentny system wspomagający proces identyfikacji perspektywicznych horyzontów złożowych w wielohoryzontowych złożach gazu ziemnego, uwzględniający kryterium ekonomiczne ich udostępnienia i eksploatacji. W procesie projektowania systemu zostały wykorzystane dotychczasowe doświadczenia firmy ORLEN Upstream z prac prowadzonych na obszarze zapadliska przedkarpackiego w utworach miocenu, obejmujące etap poszukiwania i eksploatacji wielohoryzontowych złóż gazu ziemnego. System został opracowany na bazie sztucznej inteligencji (SI) z wykorzystaniem między innymi sztucznych sieci neuronowych (SSN) i metod uczenia maszynowego (ML) oraz dodatkowo metod tzw. eksperymentu projektowanego (ang. design of experiment, DOE). Pierwsza część systemu obejmuje procesy związane z selekcją odpowiednich danych wejściowych i ich przygotowaniem do wykorzystania w kolejnych elementach systemu. Kolejnym etapem inteligentnego systemu jest identyfikacja perspektywicznych horyzontów złożowych w nowo wierconych odwiertach na podstawie wyników wykonanych opróbowań typu DST (ang. drill stem test) i testów produkcyjnych w dotychczas odwierconych i eksploatowanych odwiertach przez ORLEN Upstream. Następny element systemu stanowi projekt bazy danych wejściowych do budowy zastępczego modelu złożowego (ZMZ). Do konstrukcji bazy danych wykorzystano metodę Latin hypercube i symulator numeryczny Eclipse. W dalszej części systemu skonstruowany model zastępczy został użyty do probabilistycznego generowania profili wydobycia gazu ze zidentyfikowanych w poprzednim etapie perspektywicznych horyzontów złożowych.
The article presents an intelligent system supporting the process of identification of perspective horizons in multi-horizontal gas deposits taking into account economic criteria of their completion and exploitation. Artificial Intelligence has been used for more than two decades as a development tool for solutions in several areas of the E&P industry: production control and optimization, forecasting, ans simulation, among many others. The intelligent system was designed based on so far carried out work by the ORLEN Upstream company in the area of the Carpathian Foredeep (Miocene formations), including the phase of exploration and exploitation of multi-horizontal gas deposits. The system was developed based on artificial intelligence (AI) using, among other things, artificial neural networks (ANN), machine learning (ML), and additional methods of design of experiment (DOE). The first part of the designed system includes processes connected with the selection of proper input data and their preparation to be utilized in the next section of the system. The next stage of the intelligent system is the identification of perspective horizons in the new drilling wells based on results from performed DST and production tests in so far drilled and exploited wells by ORLEN Upstream. The subsequent stage is the design of input database for the construction of the Surrogate Reservoir Model (SRM). This input database was prepared using the Latin Hypercube method and the commercial reservoir simulator Eclipse. In the duration of the next stage of the system, the previously prepared Surrogate Reservoir Model was utilized to probabilistically generate production gas profiles from identified horizons. The final part of the intelligent system is the economic profitability analysis of investments, among other things, based on generated production profiles. The results of the economic analysis are economic indicators of investment. The decision concerning the possible completion and exploitation of the identified horizon or renouncement of the execution of the drill stem test is made on the basis of the economic results.

Opis:
In this paper we extend a stochastic discrete optimization algorithm so as to tackle the signal setting problem. Signalized junctions represent critical points of an urban transportation network, and the efficiency of their traffic signal setting influences the overall network performance. Since road congestion usually takes place at or close to junction areas, an improvement in signal settings contributes to improving travel times, drivers’ comfort, fuel consumption efficiency, pollution and safety. In a traffic network, the signal control strategy affects the travel time on the roads and influences drivers’ route choice behavior. The paper presents an algorithm for signal setting optimization of signalized junctions in a congested road network. The objective function used in this work is a weighted sum of delays caused by the signalized intersections. We propose an iterative procedure to solve the problem by alternately updating signal settings based on fixed flows and traffic assignment based on fixed signal settings. To show the robustness of our method, we consider two different assignment methods: one based on user equilibrium assignment, well established in the literature as well as in practice, and the other based on a platoon simulation model with vehicular flow propagation and spill-back. Our optimization algorithm is also compared with others well known in the literature for this problem. The surrogate method (SM), particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the genetic algorithm (GA) are compared for a combined problem of global optimization of signal settings and traffic assignment (GOSSTA). Numerical experiments on a real test network are reported.

Opis:
Introduction of fly-by-wire and increasing levels of automation significantly improve the safety of civil aircraft, and result in advanced capabilities for detecting, protecting and optimizing A/C guidance and control. However, this higher complexity requires the availability of some key flight parameters to be extended. Hence, the monitoring and consolidation of those signals is a significant issue, usually achieved via many functionally redundant sensors to extend the way those parameters are measured. This solution penalizes the overall system performance in terms of weight, maintenance, and so on. Other alternatives rely on signal processing or model-based techniques that make a global use of all or part of the sensor data available, supplemented by a model-based simulation of the flight mechanics. That processing achieves real-time estimates of the critical parameters and yields dissimilar signals. Filtered and consolidated information is delivered in unfaulty conditions by estimating an extended state vector, including wind components, and can replace failed signals in degraded conditions. Accordingly, this paper describes two model-based approaches allowing the longitudinal flight parameters of a civil A/C to be estimated on-line. Results are displayed to evaluate the performances in different simulated and real flight conditions, including realistic external disturbances and modeling errors.

Opis:
This paper addresses computationally feasible multi-objective optimization of antenna structures. We review two recent techniques that utilize the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) working with fast antenna replacement models (surrogates) constructed as Kriging interpolation of coarse-discretization electromagnetic (EM) simulation data. The initial set of Pareto-optimal designs is subsequently refined to elevate it to the high-fidelity EM simulation accuracy. In the first method, this is realized point-by-point through appropriate response correction techniques. In the second method, sparsely sampled high-fidelity simulation data is blended into the surrogate model using Co-kriging. Both methods are illustrated using two design examples: an ultra-wideband (UWB) monocone antenna and a planar Yagi-Uda antenna. Advantages and disadvantages of the methods are also discussed.
