Opis:
Fast water flow facilitates ferrous ion transport leading to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) of carbon steel and the possibility of a large accident through a failure of a secondary pipe in a nuclear power plant. Ion transport is directly linked to oxide properties such as the thickness, chemical composition and porosity. This work deals with a precise observation of the cross section of the corroded specimen focusing on an oxide passivity and its thickness using SEM (scanning electron microscope) and TEM (transmission electron microscope) as well as an apparent weight loss and a surface observation for the specimens corroded using a rotating cylindrical electrode autoclave system in pure water of pH 7 at 150°C having dissolved oxygen below 1 ppb within a flow rate range of 0 to 10 m/s. The Cr content in steel was changed from 0.02 to 2.4 wt%. Increasing the Cr content in the alloy, the FAC rate and oxide thickness decreased. The oxide porosity tends to decrease with the Cr content and immersion time owing to the development of Cr containing oxide. The oxidation behavior is not changed with the immersion time.

Opis:
In this study, a first-principles study using the spin-polarized density functional theory approach within corrected functional was carried out to investigate the electronic features of manganese oxide surfaces under three situations of (a) cation vacancy, (b) intercalation of multi- and univalent ions, and (c) adsorption of a water molecule upon the surface as catalytic performance. The possibility of obtaining the significant absolute magnetic momentum phases from native defects in orthorhombic structures of $Mn_{2}O_{3}$ and $Mn_{3}O_{4}$ (001) surface is explored, whereas Mn vacancy provides a transition from the insulating phase into a metal-like nature and modifies the electronic transport. Moreover, bandgap engineering via impurity intercalation has been explored. $Ca^{+2}$ and $Al^{+3}$ intercalations have manifested substantial attributes and explain the experimental results as efficient conducting system and catalytic activity. Furthermore, the adsorption of one water molecule and the most stable configuration, adsorption energies and electronic properties were thoroughly discussed. Accordingly, it was explored that $H_{2}O$: $Mn_{2}O_{3}$ and $Mn_{3}O_{4}$ exhibit suitable parameters as efficient catalytic synthesis.

Opis:
The mixed $SiO_2$-$TiO_2$ oxide obtained by the pyrogenic method with the silica:titanium percentage ratio equal to 20:80 (ST80) was used in the experiments. The influence of azo dye C.I. Direct Yellow 142 (DY) adsorption at the mixed oxide-solution interface on the electrokinetic properties of solid particles was studied. To determine solid surface charge density and zeta potential of examined suspensions the potentiometric titration and Doppler laser electrophoresis techniques were applied. The changes in structure of electrical double layer formed on the mixed oxide surface in the dye presence were specified as a function of DY concentration, inorganic salt addition and surfactant introduction. The effects of surfactant type and its concentration were determined. Three surfactants of different ionic character (anionic SDS, cationic CTAB and nonionic Triton X-100) were used in measurements. The obtained electrokinetic characteristics of ST80 mixed oxide dispersed in aqueous solutions with various adsorbate compositions is essential for such suspensions stability.

Opis:
Effectiveness of surfactants SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfate), AOT (sodium dioctyl sulfosuccinate) and Brij 35 (polyoxyethylene lauryl ether) in removing residual oil from soils have been determined. Experimental results indicated that oil desorption efficiencies with surfactants are 7 to 18 times higher than using water alone. 0.6% Brij 35 at was the most effective surfactant to remove oil from soil, and it did not display any significant change in oil desorption with pH changes. A comparison study also showed that pore volume was a more significant parameter than soil washing flow rate to improve oil desorption.
