Opis:
Single-pass honing is used as a finishing process to meet high demands regarding form and dimensional accuracy of drilled holes. The disadvantages of single-pass honing compared to the conventional long-stroke honing are high process forces and torques as well as an increased risk of chip space clogging of the abrasive stones. Following this, the oscillation-superimposed single-pass honing without cutting fluid has been conducted in this work, which is promising when it comes to the environmentally friendly improvement of machining processes. It was shown that the omitted lubrication and flushing effect of the contact zone between the tool and the workpiece could be compensated with the aid of the superimposed oscillations. The process forces of the dry honing process are up to 37% lower compared to the conventional process, the height of the surface profile Rz decreases by 33% and the form deviations decrease up to 47%. Hence, the new method allows the saving of resources, while improving the work results.

Opis:
The investigation was carried out on stone slabs sawn and flamed from three commercial types of igneous rocks: the “Sunny Desert” granite, “Twilight” basalt and “Imperial Red” granite. With the following method of laser profilometry, 510 surface profiles were recorded, each of them containing 1280 measuring points. The parameters of roughness and waviness were calculated for each stone surface with a horizontal measurement accuracy of 1 mmandaverticaloneof10mm. The data of laser profiling were correlated with petrographic observations in order to identify the rock components that are most exposed to damage while preparing the stone slabs. The results indicate that the thermally treated slabs have their surface roughness distinctly higher and their waviness higher even several times than the slabs obtained by sawing. Among the three flamed slabs, the highest roughness is revealed by the medium-crystalline “Sunny Desert” granite, while in case of the cut ones - by the unequally crystalline “‘Imperial Red” granite. The waviness of the surfaces obtained by slab cutting and flaming is comparable in both investigated granite types. The “Twilight” basalt, which shows the porphyritic-aphanitic texture and the directional arrangement of its mineral components, reveals the lowest values of all the parameters analysed.

Przedstawione zostały możliwości obróbki wykończeniowej – nagniatania ślizgowego nagniatakami diamentowymi wykonanymi przez Instytut Zaawansowanych Technologii Wytwarzania (IZTW) w Krakowie. Zaprezentowano wyniki badań laboratoryjnych nagniatania ślizgowego różnych materiałów konstrukcyjnych o zróżnicowanym składzie chemicznym, różnych właściwościach wytrzymałościowych, plastycznych i fizyko-chemicznych oraz zróżnicowanej strukturze metalograficznej. Wskazano na typowe zalety nagniatania ślizgowego przy użyciu nagniataków diamentowych – uzyskanie znacznej poprawy chropowatości powierzchni stopów aluminium i stali ulepszonych cieplnie do twardości HRC=45÷64 poddanych procesowi nagniatania. Opisano uzyskane wyniki pomiarów parametrów struktury geometrycznej powierzchni (SGP) w układzie 2D (analiza dwuwymiarowa) oraz w układzie 3D (analiza przestrzenna). Wyznaczono współczynnik poprawy chropowatości powierzchni KRa , czyli stosunek chropowatości Ra przed nagniataniem do chropowatości po nagniataniu. Badania SGP wykazały, że narzędzia diamentowe produkcji IZTW do nagniatania ślizgowego pozwalają uzyskiwać wysoką jakość powierzchni właściwą dla obróbki wykończeniowej.
Possibilities of the finish machining - slide burnishing using the diamond burnishing tools are presented. These tools were made in the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (IAMT) in Cracow. The results of slide burnishing laboratory tests of various structural materials of different chemical compositions, mechanical, plastic, physicalchemical properties and metallographic structures are presented. Typical advantages of slide burnishing with diamond tools, such as significant improvements in surface roughness of aluminium alloys and quenched and tempered steels (up to hardness of 45÷64 HRC) subjected to burnishing processes, are indicated. The obtained results of measurements of surface geometrical structure parameters (SGP) in 2D system (two-dimensional analysis) and 3D (three-dimensional analysis) system are given and discussed. The coefficient of surface roughness improvement (KRa), which is the ratio of Ra surface roughness parameters prior to and after the burnishing process, was determined. The SGP measurements results shown that the diamond tools made in IAMT for slide burnishing enabled the obtaining of high surface quality, meeting the requirements of finish machining.

Opis:
This paper describes findings in the surface topography of Ti6Al4V alloy after finish turning process under dry and MQL (minimum quantity lubrication) machining. The research was fulfilled in the range of variable feeds per revolution of 0.005-0.25 mm/rev and cutting speeds of 40-100 m/min using the depth of cut of 0.25 mm that fits finish processing conditions. The test plan was developed on the way to use the Parameter Space Investigation (PSI) method. The topography features were measured by a Sensofar S Neox optical profilometer using the Imaging Confocal Microscopy technique. Ra parameters and surface roughness profiles as well as 2D images and contour maps were analyzed. Under the studied machining conditions, lower Ra roughness parameters are obtained in the feed rate of 0.005-0.1 mm/rev and cutting speeds of 40-60 m/min. In comparison with dry machining, up to 17% reduction in Ra parameter values was obtained using the MQL method and vc = 70 m/min and f = 0.127 mm/rev as well as vc = 47.5 m/min and f = 0.22 mm/rev. Depending on the machining conditions, peaks and pits as well as feed marks typical for the turning process are observed on the machined surfaces.

During finish treatment, the final dimensions as well as functional properties are imparted to a given element by application of proper treatment type. The engineer has a range of production techniques to choose for the proper surface layer formation. Conventional turning machines belong to the basic equipment of ships, because in sea conditions, they enable the execution of a spare part or carrying out the necessary operations in the process of their regeneration. The use of modern cutting tools makes it possible to obtain a surface with low values of surface roughness parameters. The use of new generation cutting inserts on conventional lathes can cause problems for operators. The lack of the ability to ensure proper of treatment condition and setting errors of cutting tools contribute to the damage of the cutting insert or the surface of the workpiece. Opis:
In this paper, the analysis of vibrations on surface roughness generated during boring with the application of the conventional boring tool and one with the damper is presented. The experiments included the measurement of vibration accelerations carried out with the piezoelectric sensor, as well as the evaluation of surface roughness parameters after each machining pass. The obtained results reveal that in the investigated range, no stability loss was found. Furthermore, the growth of the rotational speed induces the increase of vibration level, as well as the growth of the differences between the vibration values generated during boring with the conventional tool and one equipped with damper. Vibrations have also the direct influence on the machined surface roughness. In case of the tool equipped with the damper, the tool’s overhang L had more intense influence than rotational speed n. However, for the conventional boring tool this dependency was unequivocal.

This paper presents the practical application of a power measurement system based on computer processing of signals generated by current and voltage sensors connected with spindle and axis driving electric motors. By using LabView data acquisition system, the total power and its components were recorded during machining operations. The experimental study concerns the power consumption and surface roughness produced in a sequential machining process consisting of hard turning and ball burnishing operations under variable machining parameters. In particular, some machining routines including finish hard machining and both single and multi-pass ball burnishing of hard surfaces were performed and compared. Finally, the optimization procedure based on these technological criteria was proposed.
