Opis:
Multilayered coatings established on parts of internal combustion as well as jet engines may be used as TBC systems providing their better thermal-mechanical efficiency, tribological properties, wear resistance and ability to withstand the influence of aggressive media. The example coating system was established on a beryllium copper substrate and consisted of the NiCr midsurface and TiN external layers. The system was analyzed as a functionally gradient material (FGM) with an assumed linear gradient function of material properties in transition zones between volumes of the pure materials of the substrate, midsurface and the external coating. The influence of the chosen microstructure features onto distribution of residual stresses was investigated. . These features were: transition zones, porosity and roughness of the external surface of the coating. Transition zones are the areas at the borders between particular layers of different materials where they are mutually interpenetrated. Different types of porosity were taken into comparisons: evenly dispersed and forming clusters. The 5, 10, 15 and 20% porosities of both of the types were investigated. At last roughness of the coating surface was introduced into the models. All the features were automatically generated with the use of random procedures.

Opis:
The first research studies on utilization of gas detonation in production of coatings on steel substrate were conducted in the fifties of the last century. In the first half of the 20th century the first constructions of the detonation guns were presented and patented and the first results of the production of coatings were published. Nowadays, the method is widely utilized in aircraft industry. One of the main advantages of the detonation method is that it enables production of various kinds of coatings with use of a wide range of materials in form of fine particles: metals, alloys, carbides, oxides and others. The coatings obtained with usage of the detonation method have low porosity and high adhesion and cohesion. Potentially, the detonation method produces coatings with unique features, impossible to obtain by use of other methods. However, the quality of the coatings strongly depends on properties of the coatings material particles jet generated by the detonation gun and processes taking place inside the detonation gun barrel during acceleration of the particles by the flow behind the detonation wave. The main aim of the paper is to present the general description and basic features of the detonation method of production of coatings and an original, Polish design of the detonation gun utilized in the process. The paper also presents results obtained with the use of the detonation gun and some examples of applications of the method.

The paper presents an analysis of the surface layer of Fe-Mn-C-B-Si-Ni-Cr alloy coating after friction with C45 steel. The coatings were obtained by arc welding (GMA). Flux-cored wires were used as a welding material. The flux-cored wires had a diameter of 2.4 mm. The tribological assessment was performed with the Amsler tribotester under dry friction conditions at unit pressures 10 MPa. The use of XPS spectroscopy allowed deep profile analysis of the surface layer. Based on the obtained results developed model of the surface layer for friction couple, hardfaced coating obtained from Fe-Mn-C-B-Si-Ni-Cr alloy – C45 steel. It was observed that the operational surface layer (OSL) of hardfaced coatings contained oxides (B2O3, SiO2, NiO, Cr2O3, FeO, Fe3O4, Fe2O3), carbides (Fe3C, Cr7C3) and borides (FeB, Fe2B).

This work is focussed on the properties of organic coatings containing pigments whose surface was chemically coated with zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) layer. Four silicate types with different particle shapes were selected as the cores: diatomite, talc, kaolin and wollastonite. The untreated particles exhibit a barrier effect. The aim of this project was to apply the surface treatment approach with a view to enhancing not only the model paint films’ anticorrosion properties but also their resistance to physico- mechanical tests pursuant to ISO standards (cupping, bending, impact, adhesion). Other parameters examined included: particle size and morphology, density of the modified pigment, oil consumption, pH, conductivity, and electrochemical properties of the paint film. A solvent-based epoxy-ester resin was used as the binder and also served as the reference material. The pigment volume concentration (PVC) was 1% and 10%. During the last stage of the experiment, the paint films were exposed to a corrosive environment stimulating seaside conditions or conditions roads treated with rock salt. The accelerated cyclic corrosion test in a neutral salt mist atmosphere was conducted for 864 hours. The results served to ascertain a suitable environment for organic coatings.

The paper presents a shape and grade of inserts depending on the surface roughness of the intermetallic coatings NiAl and Ni3Al. Intermetallic coatings on nickel based were sprayed with a torch Casto-Dyn 8000 on the steel samples. Thermal spraying intermetallic coatings have been high surface roughness, and therefore they must to be finishing. Experimental research was conducted for unalloyed steel samples with thermal spraying NiAl and Ni3Al intermetallic coatings. Before applying coatings, the samples surface was properly prepared by stream abrasive working, degreasing and finally by cleaning of oxidation products. To testing cutting inserts shape selects square and trigon made tungsten carbide and cubic boron nitride (borazon). Machining intermetallic nickel based coatings were carried out for the cutting speed vc = 214 m/min in the case of after-machining with inserts of borazon, vc = 107 m/min cutting inserts for tungsten carbide, used feed fn = 0.06 mm/rev and depth of cut ap = 0.3 mm. Intermetallic coatings are characterized by high resistance to tribology wear. These materials are used in such fields of technology, such as: electronics, energy, defense, automotive, aviation, shipbuilding, and more industry. The NiAl and Ni3Al intermetallic have found widespread applications as high – temperature structural material due to their high melting point, low density, good thermal conductivity and excellent oxidation resistance. The paper proposes the finishing flame sprayed intermetallic coatings.

The results of investigations of the sorption process of surface layers of sand moulds covered by zirconium and zirconium - graphite alcohol coatings are presented in the paper. Investigations comprised two kinds of sand grains (silica sand and reclaimed sand) of moulding sand with furan resin. Tests were performed under conditions of a high relative air humidity 75-85% and a constant temperature within the range 28–33°C. To evaluate the effectiveness of coatings protective action from moisture penetration into surface layers of sand moulds gravimetric method of quantitavie moisture sorption and ultrasonic method were applied in measurements. The optimal number and kind of coatings from the viewpoint of protection from moisture sorption were specified for furan moulding sands with quartz sand and reclaimed sand as well. Knowledge of proper coatings selection is important due to protection from high air humidity and its adverse effects. What is more, it can allow to select the proper storage conditions of casting moulds waiting for being poured with liquid metals. This can limit the occurrence of surface defects which are caused by too high humidity of casting moulds, especially in surface layer.

This paper reports on characteristics of alumina-type coatings deposited on steel substrates and treated with pulsed plasma streams containing high-energy ion beams (N, Ar, and Ti+N). Originally matted surfaces of the ceramic layers, which were created by plasma spraying of gray alumina, were changed into shiny ones, and splat boundaries disappeared due to the melting of a thin surface layer. The thickness of this modified layer did not exceed 1 žm. A higher content of Ti was found on the surfaces of the Ti- and N-treated samples only.

Opis:
Exploratory studies of the electrodeposition process of zinc coatings containing iron and tungsten were carried out using SEM/EDS and XRD techniques. It was shown that from a citrate-sulphate plating bath composed of (mol dm−3): ZnSO4 – 0.2, FeSO4 – 0.2, Na3Cit (tri-sodium citrate salt) – 0.4, (NH4)2SO4 – 0.1 and Na2WO4 – 0.01 Zn-Fe-W alloys can be obtained on a rotating disc electrode. It was noted that the induced co-deposition of tungsten with iron only occurred at pH > 6.0. Below this value, a Zn-Fe alloy coating was obtained. In the pH range from 5.0 to 9.0, the maximum contents of tungsten (15.96 wt. %) and iron (29.36 wt. %) were shown by the coatings deposited at pH 7.0. The increase in the bath pH from 5.0 to 9.0 resulted in clear changes in the phase composition of the deposited coatings. According to the results of XRD analyzes, the following can be indicated as probable: Fe22Zn78 and Fe7W6. However, the recorded diffractograms are difficult to interpret and it was very difficult to clearly define the type of phases present in the coating without additional tests.
Stosując techniki SEM/EDS i XRD, przeprowadzono rozpoznawcze badania procesu elektroosadzania powłok cynkowych zawierających żelazo i wolfram.

The objective of the investigation was to identify surface roughness after turning with wedges of coated sintered carbide. The investigation included predicting the average surface roughness in the dry machining of Duplex Stainless Steel (DSS) and the determination of load curves together with roughness profiles for various cutting conditions. The load curves and roughness profiles for various cutting wedges and variable cutting parameters were compared. It has been shown that dry cutting leads to a decrease in friction for lubricated surfaces, providing a small initial contact area where the surface is contacted. The study has been performed within a production facility during the production of electric motor parts and deep-well pumps.

The paper presents the results of research on the surface fatigue life (i.e. the resistance to pitting) of samples made of 17HMN steel, low-pressure carburized and PreNitLPC® nitriding assisted, as well as carburized samples with low-friction PVD coatings deposited onto the surface – a-C:H:W (trademark: WC/C), a-C:H (DLC Comp), and Si-DLC (DLC SiliComp) coatings were deposited. The coating process temperature in all the cases did not exceed 200°C. The investigated tribosystems were lubricated with a synthetic oil without additives. On the basis of the research results, it can be stated that thin PVD coatings, deposited onto heavy-loaded steel tribosystems, significantly and in a differentiated way affect the surface fatigue life. It seems necessary, apart from the fatigue wear investigation, to conduct profound analytical examinations aimed at explaining such a strongly different behaviour of elements working in a lubricated non-conformal contact.

Opis:
The first part of research is concentrated on the examination of four kinds of carbon nanomaterials: graphene oxide (GO), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), multi-walled carbon nanotubes functionalized by authors in acids mixture (MWCNT-F) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes with hydroxyl groups (MWCNT-OH). Their microstructure was observed in transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Based on these microphotographs, the diameters of carbon nanotubes were measured. Then, in order to determine the chemical composition of GO, MWCNT-F and MWCNT-OH, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was applied. The second part of study concerns the properties of the coatings deposited electrophoretically on titanium surface from previously examined nanomaterials. The coatings from individual nanomaterials, as well as hybrid layers (combination of two kinds of nanomaterial: graphene oxide with one of the nanotubes’ type) were deposited. Microstructure of the coatings was evaluated with the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, surface properties, important while considering usage of these materials in biological applications: wettability and surface free energy were evaluated. These materials are meant for application in regeneration and stimulation of nerve cells. All the research carried out so far indicate the influence of nanotubes’ functionalization degree on the properties of their suspension, as well as the characteristics of the deposited coating. It also influences the interaction between two types of nanomaterials. Functionalization in strong acids introduces functional groups which change nanotubes’ dimensions, properties and behavior in solution.
