    In carrying out manufacturing processes, an important role is played by the supply chain. Proper functioning of the supply chain is affected by several factors, the parameters and manifestation of which may change under situations of crises. However, disruptions may not solely pose a threat to supply chains that should be avoided. In some cases, the presence of risk may have a positive side to it, namely being the motivating factor initiating innovation. This may result in improvement of the status quo, increase in productivity and creating ways of eliminating consequences of risk. On a concrete example, the paper shall describe how innovation, spurred by crisis brought about by the current pandemic situation, can be implemented to the supply chain in the automotive sector.

    The main purpose of this study is to examine the effect of supply chain (SC) risk on lean operation performance (LOP) along with the role of supply chain resilience (SCR) as a mediator in this relationship among manufacturing companies. A quantitative approach was employed to investigate how supplier, demand, and transportation risks impact lean operations performance through the mediation of SCR. This study involved conducting an online survey of 255 manufacturing companies in the Middle East. The researchers used a hypothesis-testing deductive approach to test their conceptual model, and the results were analyzed using Smart PLS software. These findings indicate that supplier, demand, and transportation risks significantly affect SCR. Moreover, a direct path effect was found between SC risk and lean operational performance. This study emphasizes the relationship between SCR and its mediating effect on SC risk mitigation and lean operations performance. Through empirical evidence, this study demonstrated that SCR is a crucial characteristic of logistics that can aid in mediating the association between SC risk mitigation and lean operational performance. It provides valuable insights for managers, policymakers, and stakeholders regarding the significance of implementing these three enablers to enhance lean operational performance in manufacturing firms. This study presents a unique perspective on the mediating role of SC resilience in the Middle East, which has not been extensively studied in the literature. The findings could provide insights for practitioners in the region to enhance their SC risk management and lean operation performance.
    Głównym celem niniejszego opracowania jest zbadanie wpływu ryzyka związanego z łańcuchem dostaw (Supply Chain - SC) na skuteczność operacji lean (Lean Operation Performance - LOP) wraz z rolą odporności łańcucha dostaw (Supply Chain Resilience - SCR) jako pośrednika w tej relacji między firmami produkcyjnymi. Zastosowano metodę ilościową w celu zbadania, w jaki sposób ryzyko związane z dostawcami, popytem i transportem wpływa na skuteczność operacji lean poprzez pośrednictwo SCR. Badanie obejmowało przeprowadzenie ankiety internetowej wśród 255 firm produkcyjnych na Bliskim Wschodzie. Badacze wykorzystali dedukcyjną metodę testowania hipotez do sprawdzenia swojego modelu koncepcyjnego, a wyniki przeanalizowano za pomocą oprogramowania Smart PLS. Wyniki wskazują, że ryzyko związane z dostawcami, popytem i transportem znacząco wpływa na SCR. Ponadto stwierdzono bezpośredni efekt ścieżki między ryzykiem SC a skutecznością operacyjną lean. Badanie to podkreśla związek między SCR i jego pośredniczącym wpływem na ograniczanie ryzyka SC i LOP. Dzięki dowodom empirycznym badanie to wykazało, że SCR jest kluczową cechą logistyki, która może pomóc w pośredniczeniu w powiązaniu między ograniczaniem ryzyka SC a skutecznością operacji lean. Dostarczają one cennych informacji dla menedżerów, osób odpowiedzialnych za wyznaczanie kierunków polityki i innych interesariuszy na temat znaczenia wdrożenia tych trzech czynników w celu zwiększenia skuteczności operacyjnej lean w firmach produkcyjnych. Badanie to przedstawia unikalną perspektywę pośredniczącej roli odporności SC na Bliskim Wschodzie, która nie była szeroko badana w literaturze. Wyniki badania mogą zapewnić praktykom w regionie wgląd w poprawę zarządzania ryzykiem SC i skuteczności operacji lean.

    So much pressure abounds for supply chains to deliver goods and services in the right quantity, quality, to the right place and at the right time and least cost possible. It is an acceptable fact that supply chain operations, local or global, face numerous unforeseen challenges that expose them to ineffective and inefficient performance. It is evident that organizations that manage environmental, social and economic risks are better positioned to deliver sustainable supply chain operations. The next generation of supply chain management should not be comfortable with the old adage of out-of-sight out-of-mind behaviour as this presents an unacceptable reputational risk level to the sustainability of logistics business operations.

    Various supply chain stakeholders show an increasing interest in environmental and social issues related to business, since it has become a crucial factor in creating competitive advantage. Among the concepts that have been used – apart from CSR – are sustainable development, corporate citizenship, sustainable entrepreneurship, the triple bottom line, and business ethics. The need for CSR in supply chains should particularly be seen in light of the fact that a large part of their operations is conducted through systems of governance, which link firms together in various sourcing and contracting arrangements. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a concept of large relevance for business in general and within logistics specifically. Responsibility of businesses involved in supply chains can increasingly be found high on the CSR-agenda of European companies and governments. However, despite all these efforts and standards, a number of CSR issues connected to logistics issues still remain unsolved. One of these areas is the relationship between risk situations and social and environmental issues, which companies in the supply chain try to manage. In literature many different sources of logistic risks for supply chain management were discussed. Even though there is a stream of literature investigating risk in supply chains, there has been little research applied to the precise analysis of logistics risk within the framework of the CSR concept. The purpose of the research presented in this paper is to provide insight into the role of different types of risk connected to logistics processes while implementing the main areas of the CSR concept.

    Presented paper concentrate on using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology in supply chain management. Today the RFID technology can not only be enterprise assets, but also the movement of products, containers, vehicles and other assets across vast geographical areas. Supply chain management is the management of material, information and finance through a network of organizations (i.e. suppliers, manufacturers, logistic providers, whole sales distributors and retailers) that aims to produce and deliver products or services for the consumers. The aim of the paper is presentation of possibility of using RFID technology in supply chain management. In the paper there is a presentation of the history of RFID technology, the possibility of use of RFID in various industries and the analysis of benefits of RFID from supply chain management point of view (as fewer humans hands involved reduced errors reduced costs and so on). Also there is a brief description of potential risk of the technology especially in regard to the healthcare environment. Nowadays the RFID technology is increasingly using in various industry as: shipping and distribution, retail, manufacturing, agriculture, health care, pharmaceutical, government, gamin, security, timber, library etc. in supply chain management process. Many benefits described in the paper causes the possibility of wide use of this technology.
    W artykule skoncentrowano się na wykorzystaniu technologii RFID (ang. Radio Frequency Identification) w zarządzaniu łańcuchem dostaw. Obecnie technologia RFID może być wykorzystywana do wspomagania procesów logistycznych organizacji, takich jak w szczególności: przepływ towarów, kontenerów, pojazdów i innych aktywów na terenie rozległych obszarach geograficznych. Zarządzanie łańcuchem dostaw jest zarządzanie materiałami, informacją i kwestiami finansowymi poprzez sieć organizacji (np. dostawców, producentów, dostawców usług logistycznych, hurtownie dystrybutorów i sprzedawców detalicznych), którego celem jest produko-wać i dostarczać produkty i usługi dla konsumentów. Celem publikacji jest przedstawienie możli-wości wykorzystania technologii RFID w zarządzaniu łańcuchem dostaw. W pracy przedstawiono historię technologii RFID, możliwość wykorzystania RFID w różnych branżach i analizę korzyści zastosowania RFID do zarządzania łańcuchem dostaw. W publikacji zawarto również krótki opis potencjalnego ryzyka omawianej technologii, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do środowiska naturalnego i zdrowia. Obecnie technologia RFID jest coraz częściej wykorzystywana w różnych branżach ta-kich jak: transport morski i dystrybucja, handel detaliczny, produkcja, rolnictwo, opieka zdrowot-na, przemysł farmaceutyczny, bezpieczeństwo, produkcja drewna, biblioteki itp., w procesie zarzą-dzania łańcuchem dostaw. Wiążące się z nią liczne korzyści, opisane w publikacji powodują możli-wość szerokiego stosowania tej technologii.
