Opis:
Due to their growing global and complex nature, supply chains are increasingly vulnerable to natural and man-made disasters that disrupt the flow of goods. Today, recovering from disruptions represents a major challenge for supply chain professionals. In literature, most recovery methods are based on redundancy and flexibility. Their drawbacks are high inventory and coordination costs. The companies analyzed in this paper took another approach: they recovered by collaborating with their network partners, especially by temporarily sharing resources. Based on the relational view theory, this paper aims to describe whether and how companies can gain competitive advantage by relying on collaboration during the recovery process. A multiple case study with companies from the automotive and electronics industries is conducted. Six cases are analyzed with regard to the recovery characteristics and enabler. Seven propositions are derived that give potential for further research on this promising recovery method.

Opis:
Companies that operate internationally due to the complexity of commercial transactions are increasingly exposed to the negative consequences of existing threats that do not exist any longer only in the local environment. Enterprise in order to prevent such situations has to analyze risk in their supply chain and develop appropriate methods of its management in the form of prevention and mitigation of potential impacts. Because the literature is relatively rare in studies on international risk management, and its incidence is increasing strongly, the article presents possible solutions with an emphasis on the international aspect. As the risk that hypothetically occurs outside of the supply chain affects it interior in the increasing level, hence the need to develop appropriate methods for dealing with such situations. By analyzing various risk management methods and their mutual comparison, it is possible to show the desirability of their applications for enterprises embedded in international supply chains.

Opis:
Background: Competitive supply chain management is the ability not only to take corrective actions against the risk occurred, but above all prevents such a situation on a daily basis. Risk management is permanent element of management abilities and one of the most important factor impacting on supply chain resilience. Today managers have access to many tools, i.e. digital technologies, supporting the development of contingency plans (Plan B) for risk mitigation. The aim of the paper is to identify supply chain resilience in terms of risk management during the beginning of the COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2 pandemic spread in 2020. The most important factors impacting on supply chain flows stability are pointed here together with the assessment of their preparation for these flows disruption. Methods: The theoretical background is based on the literature review on disruption of supply chain management in general. The In-depth individual interview (IDI) method supported with questionnaire was used to conduct research among managers responsible for supply chain operations within the enterprises from the production, trade and services sectors in Poland. Opinions and a number of views on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on business operations and supply chain management were obtained and analyzed. The survey was conducted in March 2020. Results: The results obtained show that the first phase of pandemic spread unexpectedly strongly and impacted on disruption in the supply chains. Closed borders, sanitary and administrative restrictions have leaded to transport delays, additionally the lower number of orders was noted causing many disruptions in the further flow of the goods. Surprisingly the disruption happened even when managers synergistically cooperate and share information among partners. Conclusions: Results of the research pointed out the critical problem with the lack of „Plan B” helping supply chains quickly react on disruptions occurring in the flows. Also managing risk based on the current way of sharing information is insufficient. Features of digital technologies and digitalization are currently one of the most important solution that might help to build smart „Plan B” for risk mitigation and supply chain competitiveness improvement.
Do przeprowadzenia badań wykorzystano metodę pogłębionych wywiadów indywidualnych (IDI) podpartych kwestionariuszem. Zamknięte granice, ograniczenia sanitarne i administracyjne doprowadziły do opóźnień w transporcie, dodatkowo odnotowano mniejszą liczbę zamówień skutkującą dalszymi zmianami w przepływach towarów.

This article concerns the increasing complexity and variability of the business environment and the challenges faced by enterprises that operate within supply chains to properly identify and anticipate disruptions and adequately respond to them (i.e., the ability to resist and rebuild). This article aims to identify and evaluate the importance of the main factors that determine supply chains’ adaptability in the modern economy. A review of the literature on the subject, and the results of a survey conducted in the third quarter of 2022 among entities from the transport forwarding logistics (TFL) industry, diagnose the determinants of the adaptability of supply chains that operate when there are disruptions. They indicate the challenges faced by TFL companies that result from the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine and the directions of changes that result from them, both from the short-term and strategic perspectives. The relationships between the development of adaptability of supply chains and the increase in the competitiveness of entities enable us to verify the research hypothesis that, in the face of increasing disruptions and uncertainty in the business environment, strengthens the adaptability of supply chains producing a great potential in terms of maintaining the competitiveness of enterprises in the TFL industry. To gain and maintain a long-term competitive advantage, companies should strive to create a resilient supply chain that can withstand challenges and disruptions.

The aim of the article is to designate catalogues of typological disruption as an inherent element of supply chain management in the light of uncertainty conditions. By means of deduction, the typological characteristics of the disruption and the catalogue of management decisions were determined. In this way, the scope of theoretical knowledge based on the theory of risk and supply chain management was expanded by leading the discourse towards the location of the so-called required uncertainty in the canon of obligatory components of management strategies. The article presents an overview discourse leading to the conclusion that contemporary supply chain management requires at least an attempt to forecast the effects of uncertainty conditions, including the risk of disruption.

The increasing complexity of supply chains and the dynamic development of information technology result in the increased interest of the Multi-Echelon - Inventory - Management concept. Although the concept is well - known in the last decade worldwide, in Poland the concept is still not enough explored. This paper presents the supply chain from the perspective of Multi-Echelon - Inventory - Management concept realization. The basis for the concept is to optimize the inventory level in the entire supply chain, what is considerably more difficult than managing it in a single-echelon. The main contribution of this paper is to introduce main challenges of multilevel systems and determine the classification of risks and sources of uncertainty in the entire supply chain.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to identify and analyze how to manage the energy supply chain as part of public-private partnership and to try to answer the question in what direction should the Polish industry go to compete on global markets in the face of many challenges of decarbonisation? Maybe by using green energy produced close to its recipients and supplied bypassing the transmission grid? Maybe through the diversification of installations processing energy from various sources (RES), which would constitute an additional regulatory value for the power system? Could solutions, e.g. based on a direct line system, help in such a difficult technological and regulatory time for the energy market? As a research problem, an attempt was made to answer the question to what extent, for example, a systemic approach based on the model of direct lines can help strategic industry organizations in managing the energy supply chain, especially in situations of energy crisis? What actions can be taken to keep a secure energy supply chain management system operational or how to deal with threats affecting the functioning of the energy supply chain? The essence is to emphasize the role of the energy supply chain management system, based on specific requirements or innovative solutions, e.g. a sharing system or direct lines, in maintaining an appropriate level of energy supply security, especially during an energy crisis. To what extent can the requirements of reference documents focusing on operational control and process control ensure the security of the energy supply chain? With regard to the research problems defined in this way, the working hypothesis was formulated as follows: Searching for innovative solutions in the energy sector, and in particular the implementation of direct systems, can effectively counteract or at least reduce the effects of the recent electricity crisis and increase economic attractiveness for the industry. The article uses theoretical and empirical research methods adapted to the problems posed and the purpose of the article. These include: analysis of the literature, normative and legal documents and internal system documentation of sample organizations, the audit method using direct interview and observation of processes and activities.

Aim: The article is intended to contribute to a discussion on risks related to the CoViD-19 pandemic, which was started in the last issues of this journal. Findings: The article discusses the thesis that conventional risk management is reaching its limits in its application in companies, particularly with regard to low-probability but high-impact events its applications seems nor appropriate. In complex and tightly coupled systems like global supply chains, catastrophic events must be considered "normal". The risk of a global pandemic is well known, and at the end of 2019 the first signs of an impending outbreak were also evident. Nevertheless, the global pandemic and the gradual lockdown was surprising in that no precautionary measures were taken. Therefore, this paper argues for a change of perspective from traditional risk management to BCM and for increasing the resilience of supply chains. Opis:
The analyzed literature points to the important role of risk management in enterprises. ISO 31000:2009 norm “Risk management . Principles and guidelines” could be considered as an evidence. Developed in 2009 and published in polish edition in 2012 (PN-ISO 31000) presents principles and guidelines, which are recommended for the application in order to reduce uncertainty in decision-making, increase the effectiveness of achieving the objectives and improve operations. This paper proposes a new approach to risk managing in supply processes for the repetitive manufacturing, which is based on an adaptive system with iterative risk assessment employing data from the management information system as an essential element. The paper presents the concept of adaptive management system of supply risk, proposes a set of measures to evaluate the effectiveness of delivery supply, and then presents a simple numerical example of risk assessment. In this example are employed two measures of risk assessment: the probability of occurrence and an assessment of the stability of the supply process with using Shewhart control charts. The presented concept also requires the development of methodology for implementation. For this purpose it may serve a specially designed application responsible for collecting information and data needed for risk assessment. It is also possible to use existing enterprise information management systems through its integration with developed IT solution for implementing adaptive management of supply risk. In summary, the concept of the adaptive management of supply risk in manufacturing processes is important for companies, because of the nature of production which is dependent on regularity and timing of delivery, and completeness of supply. This is important and applicable idea both for smaller businesses as well as large, which cover a very wide supply and quantitatively large range. The proposed solution in the article is utilitarian and can bring tangible benefits to companies that implement a system of adaptive management risks of supply.

The supply chain formula based on strict close interdependence between all its elements causes the smallest disturbance in one of the links to menace the whole supply chain, which is why it is so important for the participants to identify the weakest links of the supply chain and indicating, through complex analysis, potential situations threatening the realization of the whole process; this is possible by respecting unified criteria of proceeding both on domestic and regional level, and on global scale. Safety management in the supply chain is a process aimed at determining areas menacing its proper functioning. An element of this process is undertaking suitable activities, using proper means to eliminate risk or minimise the consequences of its occurrence. Along with economic development increased risk can be observed, as well as qualitative changes in the character of appearing threats transposed from previous well recognizable, mainly fate kind of risks, to categories pertaining to the conditions of activities and process realization. What is important, in the case of hybrid supply network, the threat bound with conduct of activity exceeds the framework of a single enterprise. As a consequence, the appearance of risk in any link or stage of process realization significantly affects the whole supply chain. The article presents guidelines aimed at ensuring the continuity of the functioning of certain processes, the assumed level by providing the resources and commitment of top management, the critical parameters identified and proposed solutions dealing with crisis situation. It was noted that an appropriate response to this situation depends not only on the availability of information about the incident, but also awareness and competence of employees. Modern hybrid form characterized by high complexity of the organizational, structural and task require all participants in the supply chain of involvement in the process and creating a positive image. Effective management of multi-level logistic network can not be confined only to the traditional and well-knows methods but requires uncommon merger holistic solution.
