Opis:
Process improvement and kinetic study on copper leaching from low-grade cuprite ores in sulfuric acid solution are presented in this paper. Effects of major leaching parameters on copper leaching efficiency are determined. The results indicate that copper minerals in the raw ores are mainly cuprites. The reaction rate of this ore increases with an increase in temperature, reaction time, sulfuric acid concentrations and decrease in the particle size of ore. Leaching of about 92.5% of copper is achieved using 0.125-0.074 mm ore particle size at a reaction temperature of 353 K for 180 min reaction time with 150 g/dm3 sulfuric acid. The solid/liquid ratio was maintained constant at 1:15. Leaching kinetic indicates experimental data complies with shrinking core mode (SCM). It is found in the study that agitation rate is not an influential factor on leaching rate and that the dissolution rate is controlled by surface chemical reaction. The average activation energy of the process is determined to be 45.28 kJ mol-1, and the reaction order of H2SO4 is 0.8093.

Opis:
In this work, a novel process of pellet non-salt roasting and H2SO4 leaching was proposed for the selective extraction of vanadium from vanadium–titanium magnetite concentrate. Vanadium can be leached but the iron impurity was maintained in the pellets. Moreover, the leached pellets can meet the quality requirements of the iron-making process after secondary roasting, realizing comprehensive utilization. The maximal vanadium leaching efficiency was up to 60.3%, whereas 0.17% of the iron impurity was leached. The optimum conditions of pellet roasting and leaching were obtained by single-factor experiments. The X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy–energy disperse X-ray spectrometry analyses showed that the vanadium iron spinel can be oxidized and decomposed into Fe2O3 and vanadate during the roasting process. Given that dilute sulfuric acid can react with vanadate without reacting with Fe2O3 in the leaching process, selective vanadium extraction was realized. This work provides new insights into the industrial production of vanadium–titanium magnetite concentrate involving the direct extraction of vanadium.

Opis:
Acid leaching of Egyptian zinc ore from the Um Gheig area was carried out with sulfuric acid. This study determines the optimum conditions for dissolution of non-sulfide zinc ore. The optimum conditions are 25% -74m particle size, 45 °C temperature, 2 h leaching time, 1.1 stoichiometric molar ratio of H2SO4 to Zn, 1:3 solid/liquid ratio. The maximum filtration rate is 1.6 Mg Zn•m-2•day-1at pressure difference of 0.80 bar. The zinc recovery is about 90%. As the zinc ore contains zinc silicate, some additives were tested to enhance filtration and prevent formation of silica gel. To increase the added value of the product, zinc oxide was precipitated by a co-precipitation method in a nanosize powder with average particle size ~ 20 nm. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dye under UV light using ZnO nanopowders produced at different conditions was investigated. Photocatalytic efficiency with methylene blue (MB) concentration was reduced as much as 85% in 240 min with the produced nanoparticles.

Leaching process of Jiroft refractory manganese ore was investigated. The effects of operating parameters such as liquid to solid ratio, pulp temperature, sulfuric acid concentration, and oxalic acid concentration were studied and the optimization was done through the response surface methodology (RSM) based on central composite design (CCD) model. The recoveries of Mn, Fe and Si were selected as response of design. The optimum condition was determined by ANOVA, indicating that the liquid to solid ratio, oxalic acid concentration and pulp temperature for Mn recovery and liquid to solid ratio, pulp temperature and sulfuric acid concentration for Fe recovery and liquid to solid ratio for Si recovery were the most effective parameters, respectively. Under the optimum conditions of liquid to solid ratio= 11.8%, pulp temperature= 700 C, sulfuric acid concentration= 40 g/L and oxalic acid concentration= 35 g/L, 71.1%, 4.67% and 0.6% of Mn, Fe and Si were recovered, respectively.

Opis:
Scandium and its compounds have excellent properties, and are widely used in cutting-edge fields such as optics, electronics, and alloys. Thus, scandium is an important strategic metal. However, scandium is extremely sparsely distributed in the earth's crust, rarely occurs as an independent mineral, and requires a complex recovery process. Therefore, the study of the extraction of scandium is of great practical significance. This study examined the leaching test and kinetics of scandium under the acid leaching system of refractory anatase ore. Under appropriate two-stage countercurrent leaching conditions, the first stage of the particle size of fraction of -0.074 mm 82.6%, initial H2SO4 concentration of 6 mol/L, leaching temperature of 100 °C, acid/solid ratio of 3 ml/g, stirring speed of 300 rpm, and leaching time of 50 min; and the second stage of the initial H2SO4 concentration of 11 mol/L, leaching temperature of 150 °C, acid/solid ratio of 4 ml/g, stirring speed of 300 rpm, and leaching time of 50 min, a scandium leaching rate of 96.98% was achieved. The kinetics of scandium leaching conformed to a shrinking-core model, and sulfuric acid concentration and temperature were the most important parameters affecting the scandium leaching rate. The kinetic analysis of scandium leaching at different sulfuric acid concentrations showed that as the concentration increased, the sulfuric acid leaching of scandium changed from being chemical reaction-controlled to internal diffusion-controlled, and the apparent reaction order was 1.2429. The kinetics of scandium leaching at different temperatures showed that the sulfuric acid leaching of scandium was reaction-controlled and the apparent activation energy was 42.21 kJ-mol-1.

Opis:
The amount of waste printed circuit board (WPCB) increases continuously. There is an economic and environmental need to recover valuable metals from WPCBs. In this study, the applicability of oxidative pressurized acid leaching of WPCBs rich in copper and tin was investigated. The effect of leaching parameters such as temperature, partial oxygen pressure and chloride concentration on metal dissolution from WPCBs was studied in sulfuric acid media. It was shown that non-metallic elements present in WPCBs initiated gas formation, namely CO2 and CO, during oxidized pressure acid leach. Decomposition of plastic components already started at 90 °C with 1.5 MPa oxygen overpressure in the presence of 1 g/dm3 chlorides. Gas formation was shown to have a negative impact on the process since copper extraction was reduced to 27% compared to 80-90% extraction achieved from anode slimes used as a reference material. It was suggested that gas formation related to plastic components could have a severe impact on metal yields. The highest dissolution of tin equal to 36% was achieved at room temperature. It was found that higher temperature promoted tin hydrolysis.

Opis:
In this study, a detailed characterization of the clayey waste of the Kırka boron plant was undertaken before the development of a sulfuric acid roasting-water leaching process for the extraction of lithium from this waste. The effects of roasting temperature (650-800°C) and sulfuric acid/waste ratio (90-260 kg H2SO4/1000 kg waste on a dry basis) on the extraction of lithium were investigated. By roasting the waste sample, which contained 0.37% Li2O with dolomite, smectite and borax as the main phases, at temperatures between 650°C and 800°C in the absence of sulfuric acid as the additive, CaMgSiO4 was found to form as the dominant phase after the decomposition of dolomite and smectite present in the sample. On the other hand, the X-ray diffraction analyses of the waste sample subjected to sulfuric acid treatment without roasting showed the in-situ formation of various hydrated calcium sulfate phases for all sulfuric acid/waste ratios tested. Besides, at the highest acid/waste ratio of 260, a hydrated magnesium sulfate phase was also identified in the sample. The application of the sulfuric acid roasting-water leaching process under the optimum roasting temperature of 750°C and the acid/waste ratio of 180 was found to lead to a lithium extraction of 85.7%. The applied sulfuric acid roasting-water leaching process appeared to be an attractive process with its attributes including low roasting temperature, high extraction percentage and no requirement for gypsum as the external sulfation agent.
