The article aims to present the research results on the possibility of using alternative energy sources and pro-ecological solutions as a tool supporting the protection of the cultural and natural landscape of the suburbs of Warsaw. Near Warsaw, there are individual objects or complexes that constitute this area’s cultural identity. The difficulty is to adapt them to current energy standards without interfering with their original material, especially concerning wooden buildings. Instead of subjecting them to thermal modernization, it is worth considering alternative solutions, such as photovoltaics. A wooden manor house in Warsaw- -Białołęka was selected for detailed research. The study has shown that the optimal use of 26 photovoltaic modules that were adopted with a total installation capacity of 7.54 kWp will be optimal for this type of edifice. The simple payback time of the investment will be about ten years. To eliminate the negative aesthetic effect of the installation, panels in the appropriate color should be used, or the use of photovoltaic tiles should be considered, although the investment costs will increase. The study has shown indisputable benefits, including economic ones, resulting from the solutions used.

W ustabilizowanych systemach osadniczych usługi najczęściej rozwijają się w oparciu o mechanizm koncentracji, jednak postępująca gwałtownie suburbanizacja zaburza ten naturalny sposób regulacji popytu i  podaży usług. Na obszarach podmiejskich zwykle występuje niedobór usług oraz ich znaczne rozproszenie. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analiz rozmieszczenia obiektów usługowych na terenie powiatu wrocławskiego w latach 2006–2013 w oparciu m.in. o dane z rejestru pozwoleń na budowę. Badanie dynamiki i rozmieszczenia przestrzennego nowej zabudowy usługowej wskazuje, że usługi najczęściej lokalizowane są w sąsiedztwie z Wrocławiem, przy głównych ciągach komunikacyjnych oraz w małych miastach satelitarnych. Widoczny jest pozytywny związek między rozwojem mieszkalnictwa a rozwojem usług, które podążają za procesami suburbanizacji mieszkaniowej.
Services in well-established settlement systems usually are developed in line with the concentration mechanisms. However, the rapid suburbanisation disrupts this natural way of regulating supply and demand. In suburban areas we observe usually a shortage and dispersion of services. In this paper we analyse the development of service facilities in the Wrocław district in the years 2006–2013, using the data from the registry of building permits. Studying the dynamics and spatial distribution of the new service developments indicates that the services are most frequently localized near Wroclaw borders, by the main roads and in small satellite towns. There is a visible positive relationship between housing development and the development of services, which increasingly follow the residential suburbanisation.

The problem of pock moving out finny city centers, which is first of all due to overpopulation and pollution, leads to actions aiming at finding alternative areas for the development of the housing environment. The uncontrolled extension of cities has a vital influence over both the housing environment and economics, as it causes the rise of the costs of building houses and roads, stocking up on water, the sewage system, etc. It is also often the case that, as a result of the extension of cities, vast areas of most fertile grounds are unnecessarily and thoughtlessly wasted. That is why it is absolutely essential to take up well - thought - out steps to make use of the potential of city suburbs as housing areas. These are only possible when all the people who have an impact cii city extension, such as town planners, architects, ecologists, sociologists and inhabitants themselves, stay in close cooperation. it was no later than during the industrial Revolution that "the suburb" became home for the bourgeoisie, who wanted to escape from the hardships of city life. Nowadays the suburb, as a consciously chosen housing area, changes the shape of the modern housing organism. It offers more space and a much better quality of the environment. The countries where the ecological consciousness reached a high level have already made efforts towards using suburbs as most convenient locations for ecological housing estates. What seems to be a perfect example of such estates is an ecological housing estate called Nieuwland in Amersfoort (Netherlands). The reason why a description of the mentioned above estate is included in the following publication is to explain the way of thinking which led to locating the estate in the suburbs and present the factors which determinate its ecological character.

large cities such as Warsaw. The functional and spatial changes in the neighbouring areas of the Polish capital perfectly illustrate what is also happening in other metropolises. Unfortunately, not only the main city itself but also the neighbouring municipalities experience investment pressure. This process consumes more and more areas and favours their irrational spatial and functional development, which has its negative environmental effects. In the face of threats that result from climate change, instead of looking for solutions that are logistically and technologically complicated, resources that are still available around large cities can be used. Undoubtedly, in addition to natural landscape areas, such areas may be agricultural areas. Instead of re-qualifying them, their potential can be used in creating an eco-resilient suburbs system, which is also the ecological base of the main city. The aim of the article is to draw attention to the condition, resources and adaptation possibilities of rural areas in the suburbs of Warsaw, which, like other large Polish cities, needs new ecological solutions. The study used the Statistics Poland (Główny Urząd Statystyczny) data and conclusions resulting from the literature review on the studied issue, as well as analysis of planning documents.

The article discusses the problem of growing depopulation of large cities in Poland resulting from demographic changes, migrations in particular. The author focuses on the process of moving away from cities, and the main goal is to show the influence such migrations exert on Polish suburbs. In addition, the article elaborates on possible evaluations of the phenomenon of urban depopulation: Is it to be seen as something negative or neutral? Existing research shows that the urbanization of Poland (i.e. the percentage of Poles living in urban areas) has been decreasing in recent years. Researchers interested in this phenomenon conclude that it is a clear symptom of suburbanization.
W artykule podjęto problem narastających procesów depopulacyjnych w dużych Polskich miastach jako skutek zmian demograficznych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zjawisk migracyjnych. Skoncentrowano się na przemieszczeniach z dużych miast, a za cel przyjęto ukazanie wpływu migracji na kształtowanie się strefy podmiejskiej. W artykule postawiono także pytanie badawcze, czy miasta depopulacyjne to zjawisko negatywne, czy neutralne, które zachodzi. Jak pokazują badania urbanizacja w Polsce mierzona udziałem ludności miejskiej, w ostatnich latach wykazuje spadek, a badacze tego zjawiska stwierdzają, że jest to wyraźny przejaw suburbanizacji terenów podmiejskich.

W artykule zaprezentowano próbę analiz krajobrazu wsi w tym kontekście na przykładzie miejscowości położonych w pobliżu Wrocławia.

The article applies to three autobiographical novels written in the 1980s and 1990s by citizens of France, second-generation Algerian immigrants. The authors of these novels widely relate to their own experience of life in the suburbs of French cities. The protagonists are young people who on the one hand feel French and demand acceptance and on the other experience acts of discrimination. Moreover, their relationship to traditional Algerian culture is also ambivalent. The place with which they identify themselves is not France, in spite of the citizenship, nor Algeria, in spite of the origin, but their own district, which is a place where they live their everyday life. The author of the article analyzes the chosen novels through the perspective of the republican model of integration which excludes recognition of ethnic origin of the citizens. The article, referring to M. Foucault’s theory of heterotopia, argues that although the novels in question sensitize French readers to the various social questions, they, paradoxically, support the typical thinking of the republican model.

W warunkach polskich większość suburbiów to sypialnie wielkich miast odznaczające się anonimowością, powierzchownością kontaktów międzyludzkich, gdzie przestrzeń publiczna ogranicza się do przestrzeni przepływów. Celem artykułu było zbadanie, jakie rodzaje miejsc pełnią funkcje miejsc spotkań na terenie suburbiów oraz identyfikacja potrzeb w zakresie korzystania z tego typu miejsc. Badania przeprowadzono na terenie dwóch miejscowości suburbialnych Julianowa i Józefosławia (obszar metropolitalny Warszawy). Badania zrealizowano na bazie ankiet, wywiadów pogłębionych z mieszkańcami oraz wizji lokalnych ukierunkowanych na sposób zagospodarowania przestrzeni obydwu miejscowości. Wyniki badań potwierdzają tezę, że w suburbiach pozbawionych atrakcyjnych ogólnodostępnych miejsc spotkań możemy odnaleźć niektóre cechy klasycznych nie-miejsc. Jak wykazały badania, funkcję lokalnych miejsc spotkań przede wszystkim domy i ogrody, a więc miejsca, gdzie następuje selekcja kontaktów interpersonalnych. Aktywnościami preferowanymi w czasie wolnym są te, które można realizować bez potrzeby nawiązywania kontaktów międzyludzkich (m.in. aktywność fizyczna i kontakt z przyrodą). Jak wynika z badań, grupą która w sposób spontaniczny kreuje swoje własne miejsca spotkań na terenie suburbium, jest młodzież. Większości respondentów mimo zauważalnego braku chęci integracji z innymi mieszkańcami zależy jednak na istnieniu autentycznych przestrzeni publicznych.

The article aims to identify areas of historical, cultural, and landscape values that are located in the suburban area of Warsaw and which may play an essential role in stabilizing the urban ecosystem of Warsaw in the future. Since it turns out that the most effective form of preserving these values is to take them under legal protection, the article shows good and bad practices in this area, identifying the most significant threats and indicating opportunities and scenarios worth considering for the future. Finally, the purpose of the article is to draw attention to the importance of spatial and scenic connections, emphasizing the importance of the surrounding landscape, which was once an immanent feature of, e.g. suburban estates. The hypothesis is that in the face of progressing climate change and melting natural resources, it is worth paying attention to the importance of all urban ecosystem elements, even smaller ones, because they are a component of a larger whole and are required for ecological balance. Existing resources should be strengthened and protected, and new places for protection should be sought. Such sites may be the former foregrounds, the immediate surroundings of monuments, which in the past functioned as larger compositions and should be protected as such.

This contribution is focused on the question of the relation between film and literary writing in the work of Mehdi Charef (born in Algeria in 1952) who is currently one of the most important filmmakers and writers of North African origin in contemporary France. After a preliminary part on central concepts like ‘Intermediality’, this contribution analyzes the specificity of the filmic and literary work of Charef, who became the very first ‘beur’-writer and filmmaker with his novel Le thé au harem d’Archi Ahmed (1983), which he adapted himself for the screen in 1985 under the title Le thé au harem d’Archimède. Refusing to be classified as an ‘immigrant writer and filmmaker’, his further 12 films and 5 novels treat a large diversity of subjects, generally linked to social and cultural marginality and to the “Algerian War” (1954-1962). He sees it as a major event of contemporary French-Algerian history with its numerous ‘black boxes’ of memory like the ‘Harkis’ and the Algerian soldiers fighting on the French side. As Charef has approached the same subjects both in film and literary texts, the analysis of his work leads to a reflection on the relationship between the two media and their common use in literary pedagogy.

Artykuł podejmuje próbę spojrzenia na proces suburbanizacji oraz relacje miasta centralnego i strefy podmiejskiej z punktu widzenia polityki terytorialnej i procesu powiększania granic administracyjnych miast. Główny akcent położono na uwarunkowania prawne inkorporacji przedmieść i prawo samorządów lokalnych do ochrony własnych granic. Na podstawie analizy prawa europejskiego i krajowego stwierdzono luki prawne w postępowaniu administracyjnym, które mogą powodować upowszechnienie się aneksji przedmieść i podważanie prawa społeczności lokalnych do ochrony granic terytorialnych. Jako studium przypadku zaprezentowano proces powiększenia granic Opola, zwieńczony przychylną dla władz miasta decyzją Rady Ministrów, wbrew woli społeczności lokalnych gmin podmiejskich. Decyzja ta wywołała konflikt społeczny, u którego źródeł leżą zarówno deficyty prawne, różne interesy ekonomiczne, jak i niedostateczny dialog pomiędzy zainteresowanymi samorządami. Artykuł kończą wnioski i rekomendacje dotyczące bardziej systemowego rozwiązywania problemów zmian terytorialnych i zwiększenia transparentności podejmowanych w tej sprawie decyzji.
The article attempts to look at the process of suburbanization and the relations between the central city and the suburban area from the point of view of territorial policy and the process of enlarging the administrative borders of cities. The main emphasis was placed on the legal conditions for the incorporation of suburbs and the right of local governments to protect their own borders. Based on the analysis of European and national law, legal loopholes in territorial proceedings were identified, which may cause the spread of suburbia annexation and undermine the right of local communities to protect territorial borders. As a case study, the process of expanding the borders of Opole was presented, crowned with a decision of the Council of Ministers favorable to the city authorities, against the will of the local community of suburban communes. This decision caused a social conflict, the sources of which are both legal deficits, various economic interests and the lack of dialogue between the local governments concerned. The article ends with conclusions and recommendations regarding more systemic solutions to the problems of territorial changes and increasing the transparency of decisions made in this matter.

W artykule starano się przedstawić powiązania pomiędzy zmianami liczby bezrobotnych w sześciu największych miastach w Polsce oraz odpowiadających im obszarach podmiejskich i peryferyjnych. W przeprowadzonych analizach wykorzystano modele VAR. Wyniki wskazują, że największą elastycznością charakteryzowała się liczba bezrobotnych w miastach, a najmniejszą – na obszarach peryferyjnych. Długookresowe powiązania liczby bezrobotnych zachodziły jedynie pomiędzy częścią miast i ich suburbiów. Silniejsze związki o charakterze krótkookresowym stwierdzono pomiędzy miastami i ich suburbiami, ale wyniki były zróżnicowane w zależności od miasta.
The paper aims to show the relationship between changes in the number of the unemployed in the six largest cities in Poland and the corresponding suburban and peripheral areas. The performed analyses use VAR models. The results indicate that the number of the unemployed is the most flexible in cities, and the smallest in peripheral areas. Long-term relationships in unemployment occurred only between some cities and their suburbs. Stronger short-term relationships were found between cities and their suburbs, but the results varied depending on the city.

Opis:
Celem opracowania jest wskazanie znaczenia obszarów wiejskich w systemie migracji międzygminnych w Polsce. Migracje wewnętrzne na obszarach wiejskich zostały przeanalizowane dla lat 1995–2019, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem stanu migracji rejestrowanych w 2019 r. W opracowaniu wykorzystano podstawowe wskaźniki określające natężenie migracji, które pozwoliły stwierdzić, że obszary wiejskie odgrywają istotną rolę w systemie migracji wewnętrznych w Polsce, przyczyniając się do redystrybucji przestrzennej ludności. Wpływ ten jest jednak zróżnicowany, ponieważ z jednej strony obserwuje się silny wpływ suburbanizacji na procesy migracyjne na obszarach wiejskich w strefach podmiejskich dużych i średnich miast w Polsce, z drugiej zaś strony widoczny jest odpływ migracyjny wywołany niekorzystną sytuacją społeczno-ekonomiczną w przypadku peryferii zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych.
The aim of the study is to indicate the importance of rural areas in the system of inter-communal migrations in Poland. Internal migration in rural areas was analysed for the years 1995–2019, with particular focus on the state of migration registered in 2019. The study used basic indicators determining the intensity of migration, which made it possible to conclude that rural areas play an important role in the system of internal migration in Poland, contributing to the spatial redistribution of population. However, this influence varies due to the fact that, on the one hand, there is a strong influence of suburbanisation on migration processes in rural areas in suburban zones of large and medium-sized cities in Poland. On the other hand, migration outflows caused by an unfavourable socio-economic situation are visible in the case of external and inner peripheries.
