Opis:
Communication in university teaching has been experiencing years of reform led by modern media and technologies. This paper examines (by triangulation) satisfaction with university communication in students of private and state universities, which consider communication as one of the most important competence frameworks. The survey examined students’ perceptions (N=267) on the characteristics, methods, frequency, and quality of communication in the learning process, which is our primary research question. What was also researched was the existence of differences in students’ attitudes towards private and state universities. Results show that the students of private universities, compared to the students of state universities, are more satisfied with communication.

Opis:
The development of the Covid-19 pandemic forced rapid and widespread use of distance learning. This mass educational ‚experiment’ has given rise to a consideration of students’ academic engagement in distance learning, as well as their satisfaction with this form of education. The following research questions were formulated in this paper: To what extent did students of these courses engage in remote education in the analysed period? How did distance learning change their engagement with studying? What meaning did remote education have on their satisfaction with studying? What advantages and disadvantaged of distance learning did the students notice? Did the mode of study (full-time/external) differentiate the students’ opinions? The subject of the study was comprised of 172 randomly selected students of management courses, i.e. Management, Economics and Logistics. The research used an online survey technique, using a categorized and standardized questionnaire (including the UWES-S tool). The results showed that according to more than half of the management courses students who were surveyed, remote learning during the Covid-19 pandemic did not reduce their engagement in their studies. There was a decrease in engagement for 42.44% of those who were surveyed and an increase for one in four respondents (25.59%). According to more than half of the students, remote learning also did not decrease their satisfaction with studying. A decrease of satisfaction with studying was reported by less than half of the respondents (39.53%) and an increase ‒ by 33.72%.

Objectives The purpose of the study was to investigate the relation between system values during medical education and styles of success in the medical career. Material and Methods The participants were first examined when they applied to the medical school. Questionnaires were given to these students each academic year. Medical doctors who had participated in the first phase of the study completed a questionnaire 4 years after their graduation, too. The baseline questionnaire measured the system values. The follow-up questionnaire included measures of quality of life, work stress and burnout, satisfaction with medicine as a career and professional competency. Results The identified 3 groups of students representing 3 types of careers had been different regarding their preferred terminal values and instrumental values. Out of 3 groups, 2 presented a high risk of burnout. What is more the life goals (terminal values) are relatively stable, but preferable modes of behavior (instrumental values) are likely to change. The most important differences between students who may suffer from burnout later as doctors and those who are at a lower risk are e.g., family security, freedom, happiness, mature love, self-respect, social recognition and wisdom. Conclusions The Rokeach Value Survey may be applied to identify specific tendencies in the development of medical career. The obtained results may be used by the medical school admission officers as well as resident selection committees in order to identify candidates who may be at risk of professional difficulties. Authors can identify during medical education which student will be at risk of professional burnout after studies. Thus there could be a selection of interventions directed toward differentiated groups of students, e.g.: supplying them with proper coping vs. guiding them, to increase life satisfaction and productivity. The existing borders have very often lost their meaning and do not fulfil the functions assigned to them for many centuries. Today, especially in Europe, many borders are “dematerialized” and exist mostly in the memory and consciousness of people. Contemporary academic youth is in a special situation – they participate in the rapidly changing sociocultural world and, at the same time, experience some phenomena that have never been present on such a large scale. The reflection upon the young, learning generation of Czechs, Poles and Slovaks is associated with an attempt to find answers to many questions, among which those regarding plans for the future and the sense of life satisfaction seem to be of great significance. What I have recognized as important is finding out if the young plan their future during their studies and/or work abroad and how they assess their sense of life satisfaction, taking into account two aspects – their family life and financial situation.

Background: The phenomenon of accumulating tasks, characteristic of emerging adulthood, intensifies perceived stress and stimulates coping activity. The nature and intensity of the coping strategies used to deal with challenges can affect mental health in emerging adulthood. The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between coping strategies and mental health in a group of emerging adults- students in higher education. Methods: The study included 390 emerging adults, students in higher education. Coping strategies were measured with the COPE Questionnaire and information on mental health was called using the Kutcher Adolescent Depression Scale and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with maximum likelihood (ML) estimation was used to assess the factor structure of the variables and structural equation modeling was used to test the hypotheses. Results: The data mostly confirmed the hypotheses. Avoidance strategies turned out to be the strongest predictor of mental health, specifically negative mental health outcomes. Problem-focused strategies were a stronger predictor of quality of life than emotion-focused and support-seeking strategies. Emotion-focused strategies did not predict depression. Coping strategies, especially avoidance strategies, play a crucial role in mental health during emerging adulthood. Conclusions: Learning to cope enables students to deal with difficult tasks and challenges of this period more effectively, and minimizes their risk of depression, and increases their life satisfaction.

The paper proposes a theoretical model to assess the factors affecting students’ satisfaction of their university and their future behavioral intentions. The proposed model was validated by empirical or case research, applied at three Colombian universities (public and private) in Cartagena. A 19-item questionnaire was given to a random sample of 400 students, and was solved by the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results showed that the students’ perceptions of the universities analyzed affected their satisfaction level and this, in turn, affected their future intentions. Perceived value pricing did not have a significant effect on satisfaction. The model was validated using the most common fit indices. The results presented a statistically valid model, whose main result is the identification of a significant causal effect among the students’ perceptions, satisfaction and future behavioral intentions in the universities analyzed. There was not a significant difference in results between the public and private universities.

Nurses’ work requires an exclusive devotion and commitment. Although it is particularly burdening and highly stressful, it is not well paid and has a low status in the social hierarchy. The aim of the study was: 1) assessment and validity of various aspects of job; 2) understanding emotions towards nurses’ work; 3) determination of job satisfaction perceived by studying nurses. The study involved 281 students of extramural complementary Nursing Course at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. The authors’ demographic questionnaire, the Work Description Inventory (WDI), the Job Affect Scale (JAS), and the Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) were used in the study. The obtained results were statistically analysed. Students obtained the average performance in the above mentionedmeasures of job evaluation. As regards the evaluation of superiors and the work content, the results obtained in the tested sample were slightly elevated. In terms of the importance of various aspects of job evaluation, the relationship with colleagues as well as the content and hours of work were found to be the most important, while salary appeared to be the least important aspect. The evaluation of the affect at work showed that students achieved the average results using the positive emotions scale and low results on the negative affect scale. The job satisfaction index values suggest that the students are on average satisfied with the work in their profession. On the basis of the performed study, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1) according to the students’ assessment, the relationship with colleagues as well as the content and time of work are the most important aspects of work, whereas salary is the least significant; 2) more than half of the surveyed felt positive emotions at their workplace; 3) respondents were on average satisfied with their work; 4) undertaking the extramural complementary nursing course is associated with students’ positive attitude towards the nursing profession and their place of work.
Badaniom poddano 281 studentek i studentów pielęgniarstwa, studiów pomostowych niestacjonarnych UWM w Olsztynie. W pracy wykorzystano: autorską ankietę demograficzną, Arkusz Opisu Pracy (Work Description Inventory, WDI), Skalę Afektu Pracy (Job Affect Scale, JAS), Skalę Satysfakcji z Pracy (Job Satisfaction Survey, SJS). Uzyskane wyniki poddano analizie statystycznej.

A total of 843 college students in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies were investigated using a social support evaluation scale, a resilience scale, and a life satisfaction evaluation scale. Results were analyzed using IBM® SPSS 21.0® and Amos 17.0. It was shown that there existed a positive correlation respectively among resilience, social support and life satisfaction. Social support predicted resilience positively and resilience partially mediated the association between social support and life satisfaction. Finally, resilience moderated the association between social support and life satisfaction; the higher the resilience level, the more significant the positive predictive effect of social support on life satisfaction. College students' life satisfaction is closely related to social support and resilience; resilience partially plays a mediating and moderating role between social support and life satisfaction.

Opis:
This study aims to measure the latent mean difference in perfectionism and marital satisfaction by counseling help-seeking attitudes. The respondents were 327 married graduate students from a research university in Malaysia. An online self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. The respondents completed the Almost Perfect Scale-Revised, Dyadic Almost Perfect Scale, Marital Satisfaction Scale, and Attitudes toward Seeking Professional Psychology Help Scale. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to examined the instruments and the results indicated that construct validity were achieved. The latent mean difference in perfectionism and marital satisfaction by counseling help-seeking attitudes were tested using multigroup invariance analysis. The respondents with negative attitudes toward counseling help-seeking (n = 159) reported a higher latent mean in perfectionism but a lower latent mean in marital satisfaction compared to those with positive attitudes toward counseling help-seeking (n = 168). The implications of these findings for counseling services are discussed.
