Opis:
Introduction. The European Union strategy for sustainable development is a multidimensional approach to policy making. It assures a coherent development of all areas of social life, including public health, education and physical culture. It is implemented globally through projects developed and co-financed by the EU. In local terms each Member State is responsible for organizational and economic aspects of these projects and consists primarily in adapting its operation to general EU standards. The aim of the study was to determine the environmental diversity of recreational physical activity among lower secondary school students, which allows an indirect insight into sustainable rural and urban development of the south-west of Poland in the analyzed aspects of social life. Material and methods. A diagnostic survey with the use of questionnaires was applied to collect factual material. The research tool was a standardized survey questionnaire developed as part of the research problem financed from the grant in the Czech Republic. A group of secondary school students, 3500 girls and boys from rural and urban environment, from the south-west of Poland participated in the study. Results. Quantitative structures of organized and spontaneous physical activity are highly diversified in the subjects’ environment. Almost twice as many young people takes up spontaneous exercise as those involved in organized activities. Living environment does not diversify general physical activity among female subjects. Boys who engage in organized exercise are nearly twice as many as those taking up spontaneous physical activity. Living environment is determining only in the case of boys participating in organized activities; the percentage is significantly higher in the rural environment. Conclusion. The study confirmed a sustainable development in the studied environments. There is certain diversity in the collected data, yet it reflects the specific character of rural and urban environments, not a developmental disproportion.

Background. The decrease of active participation and students` reluctance to physical education have prompted research on students’ interests in physical activity. The implementation of physical education to curriculum in 2009 was to improve the existing situation: low attractiveness of physical education at school. The program requires physical education classes to be taught according to students’ interests. The aim of our study was to examine the interest in physical activity of the students from selected secondary schools in Wroclaw. Material and methods. The study comprised 197 students (112 girls and 85 boys) from 2 secondary schools in Wrocław. A diagnostic opinion poll and standardized survey questionnaire “Students’ interest in physical activity” were used. Results. The research proved that most of the students were interested in swimming, dancing and sport games. Among girls the most popular were dancing, swimming and skiing, while boys were interested in sport games, motor sports, swimming and martial arts. Conclusion. The results showed that physical education classes in secondary schools should include the most popular forms of students’ physical activity. Secondary schools should examine the students’ interests in physical activity and incorporate the most popular sport disciplines into physical activity classes.

Wprowadzenie. Cel. Zbadanie występowania zachowań prozdrowotnych u uczniów klas licealnych. Materiały i metody. Badaniem objęto 551 uczniów. Badanie przeprowadzono na przełomie lutego i marca 2021 roku w formie internetowej ankiety w programie Formularze Google. Wykorzystano kwestionariusz własnego autorstwa oraz Międzynarodowy Kwestionariusz Aktywności Fizycznej IPAQ – wersja krótka. Wyniki.
Introduction. Nutrition is one of the key elements of shaping health-promoting behaviours. One of the most important health-promoting behaviours is physical activity, which brings numerous health benefits. Family plays a crucial role in forming health behaviours: the more health-promoting behaviours young people learn at home, the higher the chance is of them continuing these behaviours in their adult lives. Aim. Researching the presence of health-promoting behaviours among middle and high school students. Materials and method. 551 students participated in the research. The research was conducted with the use of an online questionnaire in Google Forms. It was conducted in February and March 2021. A questionnaire developed by the author was employed, as well as the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ – short version). Results. Nearly half of the research participants ate sweets a few times a week. Research has shown signifi cant differences in health behaviours between genders. Signifi cantly more boys (7.9%) than girls (3.1%) ate fast food a few times a week. Boys ate fi sh significantly more often. Signifi cantly more boys than girls consumed fi zzy drinks a few times a week or every day. Conclusions. Over half (51%) of the students were moderately physically active. 34.1% were highly physically active, and the physical activity of 14.9% is low. Girls showed more health-promoting behaviours than boys. Girls went on a diet signifi cantly more often than boys. Boys consumed signifi cantly less fruit than girls. The COVID-19 pandemic led to decrease in physical activity among students.

Opis:
Introduction. A large-scale research was performed concerning issues relating to physical activity as an important factor in a healthy lifestyle and involved observing the differences among males and females as future elites of the Ukraine. Objective. The objective of the research is to assess the physical activity of students from the Ukraine, considering such factors as: gender, leisure time, time spent sitting, sports performed or intended to be performed, and the BMI. Materials and method. The extended version of the IPAQ, supplemented with 3 original questions by the authors, was applied to a 2,125-strong student group from 12 majors of the University of Luck, Ukraine. Results. Students from Ukraine portrayed a positive picture of physical activity with significantly higher values in male students of both total activity and its fields, i.e. sports activity and work (studying). The male students performed better in their fitness (condition) self-assessment and the amount of time spent sitting, whereas the female students had better BMI results. Both genders differed considerably in their choice of sport-recreational activities. Conclusions. Females more than males demonstrated lower indices of participation in physical activity, which did not permit the formulation of a positive assessment of their lifestyle. A positive phenomenon is the normal BMI and trace values of overweight in women, exactly the reverse to males.

The production of mood-regulating chemicals (e.g. serotonin) may be impacted through prolonged or acute stress events. If a serotonin-deficit exists, depression-related illnesses may result, with such illnesses projected to become the second highest lifetime burden of disease. Critically, physical activity has been found to assist in increasing serotonin levels, positively impacting adult neurogenesis and mood. The purpose of this study was to track daily steps (physical activity) employing a stepcounting technology across a small Canadian university. Guided by the research questions: Can tracking daily steps encourage elevated levels of physical activity? and What differences, if any, exist between physical activity levels amongst students and faculty/staff?, such an understanding may add to the current body of knowledge concerning physical activity levels in educational institutions. Over a 9-week period, students (n = 32) took significantly more steps than faculty/staff (n = 16), and significantly more in Week 9 than in Week 2.

Opis:
Background. Numerous connections of physical activity with biological indicators and various diseases justify its place in the multifaceted theory of health, thus making it a health measure. The aim of the study was to learn about the physical activity declared by students at Belarusian universities – to determine its level and dominant areas. Material and methods. 739 people studying in Brest, Minsk, and Grodno (Belarus) were surveyed with the long version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results. The total physical activity of the surveyed students amounted to 4840.5 metabolic equivalent of task (MET) min/week (median), which proves their significant involvement in the broadly understood physical culture. The dominant area of their physical activity proved to be work-related effort (median=1700.6 MET-min/week), while the lowest activity of the respondents was related to sport and recreation. The surveyed men showed higher MET-min/week rates in total physical activity and its components compared with women except for housework. In each of the analyzed variables (gender, Body Mass Index (BMI), selfassessment of physical fitness, and declared amount of spare time), there were statistically significant differences in the physical activity level of the surveyed students. Conclusions. The surveyed men proved to be more active than women in all domains of physical activity except for housework. Respondents with a BMI indicating overweight were more active than those with a normal BMI or those who were underweight. High self-esteem and declaration of lacking spare time are associated with high values of the MET-min/week index.
Wprowadzenie. Materiał i metody. Sondażem diagnostycznym z wykorzystaniem długiej wersji Międzynarodowego Kwestionariusza Aktywności Fizycznej (IPAQ) objęto 739 osób studiujących w Brześciu, Mińsku i Grodnie (Białoruś). Wyniki. Badani mężczyźni w porównaniu do badanych kobiet prezentowali wyższe wskaźniki MET-min./ tydzień w obszarze całkowitej aktywności fizycznej i jej składowych, z wyjątkiem wysiłków związanych z pracami domowymi. W każdej z analizowanych zmiennych (płeć, BMI, samoocena sprawności fizycznej, deklarowana ilość wolnego czasu) wystąpiło istotne statystycznie zróżnicowanie poziomu aktywności fizycznej badanych studentów. Wnioski.

The report presents the internship analysis results between the p hysical activity during the week and life quality fields in mid and late adolescence of students in different sport level. In the research took part students from secondary schools and universities from Slovakia (n=308). The life quality was observed via m odificated questionnaire SQUALA and the level of the physical activity during the week in hours (PA). The results are presented by descriptive characteristics (n, M, SD) and the statistic importance of differences, relations is rated by non – parametric me thods (W, U, r s ) at the levels of importance (p< 0. 05, p< 0. 20; p = level of significant = p - value = 1%, 5%, 10%, 20%).Positive interactions PA with life quality fields were found in mid adolescence. In the group of active athletes in mid adolescence were pr oved positive interactions with the f ield of physical well - being (p<0. 10), field of appearance and possession of things (p<,01), by occasional athletes with the spiritual field (p< 0. 01) and the field of education (p< 0. 20). In the group of students in late adolescence was proved a positive interaction PA only with the field of material safety (p<0.01).It was repeatedly proved that mid and late adolescence is a very stormy and unstable period of lifetime, mainly when talking about satisfaction with life qual ity. The importance of life quality plays a great role in the lives of adolescents. It was also pointed out that there are possibilities to influence the fields of life quality via physical activities, but especially the importance of creating sufficient c ircumstances to enhance the life quality in social environment of adolescents. The contribution was published via the grant resource MŠ SR KEGA 003UKF - 4/2016.

Objectives:  The present study aimed to to investigate the role of the leisure time physical activities in the control of abnormal behaviours of male high school students in Tehran (Iran). Methods: A sample of 1715 students was selected based on multi-stage cluster random sampling using Cochran’s formula. The research instrument was an ad hoc questionnaire of abnormal behaviours elaborated by the researchers and based on the previous literature. Its validity was confirmed by a group of fifteen university teachers of physical education, sociology, and psychology. The reliability was 0.85 using Cronbach’s alpha. Descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and independent samples t-test (p?0.05) were used in the analysis of the data. Findings: The results showed that participation in leisure time physical activities has a positive role in reducing all the three areas of abnormal behaviours (maladaptive behaviours, anti-social behaviours, and immoral behaviours). Conclusions: Family leisure time planners, social and health policy makers are recommended to take supportive measures in order to incorporate sports activities in students’ lifestyle.

The effectiveness of the content of physical education of students of medical college has been studied for one academic year through their involvement into systematic physical activity. One of the results of resolving this problem was students’ improvement in morphofunctional indexes. The developed organizational and methodological principles were the basis of the proposed content through the involvement of students of medical college for physical activity during physical education classes. Each position included a set of rules that were performed in a certain sequence during the formation of the content of physical education and its implementation in classes. Proposed development has provided 21 girls and 19 boys significantly better results in solving problems within a year than 58 girls and 35 boys who used the content of physical education that was formed and implemented without specified experimental factor.Key words: motivation, physical activity, physical education, students of medical college.

The aim of the research was to study the diversity of the level of physical activity among the students according to their place of residence: a house (a detached house) or a flat (a residential block). The research was carried out in 2015 among 730 students (373 women and 357 men) of John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska (PSW). The method used in the research was the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) in its long version. The results have shown that there were no significant differences in the overall level of physical activity of both men and women according to their place of residence. However, significant differences have been noticed among female and male students as regards the physical activity connected to housework in favour of people living in houses. The same correlation was observed in favour of women living in flats (residential blocks).

Šafá rik University in Košice (UPJŠ, n=918, 651 women and 267 men) and the Technical University in Košice (TUKE, n=653, 239 women and 414 men). We compiled our own test battery named “The risk factors of obesity and its prevention through physical activity” and administered it to students at the beginning of the respective academic years (September 2012 and September 2013). Presented paper focuses on questions related to: the students' satisfaction with their lifestyle, students expressing a need to change their lifestyle, frequency of structured physical activity, motivation to engage in structured physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and a structure of leisure activities. To process the collected data, we used the statistical software R. To test the signific ance of differences between the universities we used the Wilcoxon rank - sum test. N o significant difference between the universities was found on variables indicating the satisfaction with lifestyle. The most repeated lifestyle components that students of b oth universities would like to change were physical activity and dietary habits. These data reflect the findings that in the last half year over 61.5 % of UPJŠ students and 48.9 % of TUKE students were engaged in structured physical activity either irregul arly or they were not engaged in any structured physical activity at all. Another analysis of significant difference (p<0.001) between the two universities was employed to indicate the frequency with which students engaged in structured physical activity. The analysis revealed a higher frequency in students of TUKE. The analysis also confirmed that the gender of a respondent had a greater influence on that difference than the university they attended. The students of both universities indicated that figure (appearance), enjoyment, health and physical fitness were the main motivators for structured physical activity. The difference between the universities, with regard to variables indicating the time which students spent engaged in sedentary behaviours was s ignificant (p<0.001) during both working days and weekend days, where gender had no influence on this difference. Sedentary behaviours prevailed among the most common leisure activities in students of both universities. At the beginning of their university studies, lifestyle of a large number of first - year students at the two universities is characterized by the low level of engagement in structured physical activity and by sedentary leisure activities, with the existing differences between genders and the universities.

Opis:
Introduction: Lack of physical activity has become a tremendous health problem in young people, notably in the digital communication era. Due to burdensome academic tasks, the situation may be more rigorous for medical students. The family structure is supposed to influence children’s physical activity patterns. Aim of the study: This study aimed to investigate the effect of family structure on physical activity levels in medical students. Methods: This cross-sectional study was followed by 109 students; 75 (68.8%) were female. Gender, family structure, parents’ level of physical activity, number of families, and the presence of grandparents were included as independent variables. In contrast, students’ level of physical activity was a dependent variable. Data on independent variables were obtained through a guided interview. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was applied to assess students’ level of physical activity. Variables were dichotomously categorized to simplify statistical testing. Chi-square was applied to reveal the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: 39 (35.8%) students had low IPAQ score, 47 (43.1%) moderate, and 23 (21.1%) high. Most students (61.4%) lived in a nuclear family. There were 55 students (50.5%) who lived with family members less than 5; only 31 (28.4%) reported the presence of grandparents in their homes. Most students’ parents reported doing sufficient regular exercise (73.1%). Students’ IPAQ score was associated with the family type (OR 3.56, 95% CI 1.53–8.20, p = 0.002) and the presence of grandparents (OR 3.76, 95% CI 1.57–9.00, p = 0.002). Conclusion: Medical students who lived in a nuclear family and lived without their grandparents had higher physical activity levels.

Opis:
Background: Numerous connections between physical activity (PA) and health clearly indicate that nowadays conscious and purposeful PA is essential. Aim of the study: To determine PA levels reported by University nursing students and to indicate the dominant activity areas. Material and methods: A diagnostic survey which included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire – Short Form (IPAQ) was used to examine 419 students of nursing. Results: The reported total PA of the students under investigation was 3443.9 MET-min/week. Walking activities were the dominant area of PA (mean = 1557.6 MET-min/week), whereas vigorous activities were the least common. Compared to women, men accumulated higher values of MET-min/week in the area of total PA and its components, with the exception of vigorous activities. Significant differences in PA were only shown when place of residence was factored in. Conclusions: The IPAQ showed that one in four participants demonstrated high levels of PA. More than one-third of the respondents did not meet the criteria for moderate or high activity levels, thus exhibiting low levels of PA. The participants from urban areas were more active than those from rural areas. Out of the three areas of PA (vigorous, moderate and walking), walking was the most dominate activity.
