    For decades, critics of higher education have been asserting that competencies students can demonstrate upon course completion are much better predictors of what students know and can do than time spent in courses or grades. However, assessment of student learning has not been adopted by faculty and their leaders, and the effort is normally addressed as a bureaucratic demand. The objective was to identify topics that could help shape the discourse regarding the assessment of student learning. The study revealed that the universities in Poland are ready to ensure graduating students competencies demanded by the contemporary world.

    Opis:
    This case study investigated how student interaction patterns (Moore, 1993) with different instructional media in a graduate level online environmental toxicology course impacted student outcomes, as measured by grades and student engagement levels. Student engagement levels were measured as Posts, Access, Time, and Hits (PATHs) by using the PATHs Framework (Adebowale, 2017) approach to quantify learning analytics obtained from a Learning Management System. Data was obtained from 13 online students during the fall 2018 semester. Findings indicate that Narrated PowerPoint and Shaky Hand video led to higher student outcomes compared to the other forms of instructional media. Implications for course design, quality assurance mechanisms, assessments, improvement of student outcomes, and criteria for selecting the type of instructional media to use in online courses are also discussed.

    W niniejszym artykule, przez pryzmat ministerialnych założeń dotyczących wiedzy, umiejętności, jak i kompetencji studentów edukacji przedszkolnej i wczesnoszkolnej, zwrócono uwagę na problem przygotowania przyszłych nauczycieli do pracy z uczniem w środowisku zróżnicowanym kulturowo. Potrzeba naukowej dyskusji i refleksji nad problemem kształcenia w tym aspekcie, wynika przede wszystkim z własnych obserwacji, związanych z dostrzegalnymi problemami w kształceniu akademickim, czego efektem jest zauważalna niewystarczająca wiedza studentów na temat zagadnienia migracji i uchodźstwa. Stąd, w opracowaniu poddano krytycznej analizie zarówno standard kształcenia nauczycieli, jak i plany, programy oraz dostępne sylabusy zajęć na kierunku pedagogika przedszkolna i wczesnoszkolna w polskich uniwersytetach.
    This article deals with the problem of preparing future teachers to work with schoolchildren in a culturally diverse environment from the perspective of ministerial assumptions regarding the knowledge, skills and competences of schoolchildren receiving preschool and early school education. The need for a scientific discussion about and reflection on this aspect of education results primarily from the authors’ observations of problems occurring in academic education. Consequently, students have insufficient knowledge of the issues of migration and refugees. Therefore, the study critically analyzes the learning outcomes, as well as available plans, curricula and syllabuses of classes in the field of preschool and early school education at Polish universities.

    Opis:
    We constantly ask ourselves about the quality of the education and upbringing system. In order to meet these questions, various systems and concepts appeared, including a new movement that combined teaching and education with the appropriate forms of productive activity of pupils. Soon this trend was called «work schools». In Poland, the newly emerging concept of the experimental school has been called the «creative school». It is not difficult to guess that the new method was quickly evaluated by experts, teachers and the students themselves. The esteemed catechist, Fr. Józef Rychlicki. The purpose of this article is not only to present the views of Fr. Rychlicki on the rightness of introducing the «creative school» method, but also reflection on the need to implement some of the postulates of this method in the contemporary educational system.
    Nieustannie stawiamy sobie pytanie o jakość systemu nauczania i wychowywania. Wychodząc naprzeciw tym pytaniom, pojawiały się różne systemy i koncepcje, a wśród nich również nowy ruch, który łączył nauczanie i wychowanie z odpowiednimi formami działalności wytwórczej uczniów. W niedługim czasie nurt ten został nazwany „szkołami pracy”. Na gruncie polskim nowo pojawiająca się koncepcja szkoły eksperymentalnej została określona mianem „szkoły twórczej”. Nie trudno się domyśleć, że bardzo szybko nowa metoda została poddana ocenom ekspertów, uczących a także i samych uczniów. Swoją ocenę zaprezentował również ceniony katecheta ks. Józef Rychlicki. Zadaniem niniejszego artykułu jest nie tylko ukazanie poglądów ks. Rychlickiego na słuszność wprowadzania metody „szkoły twórczej”, ale również refleksja nad potrzebą zaimplementowania niektórych postulatów tej metody we współczesnym systemie edukacyjnym.
