Opis:
The article deals with the stress-strain analysis and investigations of operating properties of metal high-pressure gaskets. The simplified analytical approach is applied in the examinations of wave-ring gasket and lens-ring gasket. A cylindrical shell of constant mean thickness is introduced to simulate the gaskets. It is assumed that the shell is simply supported at the inner surfaces of the gasket seats. The influence of certain geometric, material and assembly parameters on the strength and leak-tightness of the closures is analytically investigated. Certain selected parameters of the closure are examined versus applied operating pressure for the assumed materials of the gasketed members and fixed several another data of the gaskets. The analysis is carried out in dimensionless variables in order to generalize the results. The region of admissible solutions for the gaskets parameters such as dimensions, applied assembly requirements and operating pressure is determined. The static tensile tests were carried out to determine the real mechanical properties of materials applied for the gaskets and the seats. The analytical solutions are verified by FEM calculations, which take into account the hardening of the material, friction at the surfaces and contact effects. Theoretical considerations are illustrated by numerical examples and compared with the experimental results obtained under assembly conditions with no operating pressure applied to the closures. Some conclusions may be recommended in design procedures of the high-pressure closures with metal gaskets.

In this article, a method is proposed for calculating the reinforcement of concrete ceiling slabs with carbon composite materials based on the finite element model in the computer program SCAD Office PC. This method allows the most complete and accurate representation to be obtained of the structure stress-strain state before and after reinforcement with composite materials. Therefore, it allows high-quality designing and reduces the cost conducting calculations and tests on a large scale. The design values are taken from the initial data, and include conclusions based on the results of analysis of the technical state of the structures and drawings from the calculation section of the CS (reinforced concrete structures).

Opis:
This publication delves into geomechanical processes encountered during sequential longwall mining of coal seams, with a unique focus on reusing the conveyor track of the prior longwall as the ventilation pathway for the subsequent longwall. An in-depth geomechanical rationale is provided for the reuse of excavations within jointed rock formations. To ascertain the critical roles played by various support and protective elements at each distinct mining stage, a comprehensive analysis is performed using finite element techniques to delineate thethree-dimensional stress-strain characteristics of the rock mass.Employing an innovative methodology integrating multifactorial analysis, contemporary structural identification algorithms, and a neuro-heuristic approach for predictive mathematical modeling, an integral stability metric for reusable mining excavations isintroduced. Specifically, this metric quantifies the relative preservation of theexcavation's cross-sectional area following its connection to thesecond longwall.Furthermore, the study tackles the challenge of nonlinear optimization through the application of the generalized reduced gradient method (Frank-Wolfe), ultimately deriving the optimal combination of factors that maximizes the preservation of the cross-sectional area for these reusable excavations.

This paper discusses the results of a numerical study of circular cup drawing of steel sheets using finite element method. The drawing process is considered as a geometrical and physical nonlinear problem with unknown boundary conditions in the contact area of the system, such as the tool and the workpiece. The updated Lagrangian description is used to characterize these nonlinear phenomena on a typical incremental step time. Numerical results are obtained using an explicit method in Ansys/Ls-Dyna program. The constitutive Cowper-Symonds material model with linear hardening strain to predict material plasticity is used. The results of implementation of stresses and strains from a blanking operation flat disc of a sheet of metal for deep-drawing process are presented. After the blanking process simulation, an implicit springback analysis is performed. Then a numerical analysis of cup forming from this flat disc plate was carried out. The analysis results are compared with one another through reading of the sheet thickness in several characteristic points and the overall height of the product.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC) is related to a transient systolic dysfunction of left ventricle (LV), accompanied by clinical and electrocardiographic symptoms of myocardial ischemia in the absence of hemodynamically significant coronary artery disease. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is usually provoked by a psychologically or/and physically stressful event which may be related to occupational activities. Although visually assessed evolution of LV function is well documented, the data concerning strain changes is sparse and various patterns of deformation abnormalities are suggested. We have described a 72-year-old woman with chest pain related to a lecture given at the meeting of the Senior University, fulfilling all the Mayo Clinic criteria of the TC. The longitudinal strain analysis with automated function imaging (AFI) documented severe impairment and stepwise recovery of regional and global LV contractility. The case described confirms that accurate diagnosis, treatment and documenting of functional improvement in takotsubo cardiomyopathy may enable the return to occupational activities even for elderly persons. Opis:
Digital photoelasticity is an important optical metrology follow-up for stress and strain analysis using full-field digital photographic images. Advances in digital image processing, data acquisition, procedures for pattern recognition and storage capacity enable the use of the computer-aided technique in automation and facilitate improvement of the digital photoelastic technique. The objective of this research is to find new equations for a novel phase-shifting method in digital photoelasticity. Some innovations are proposed. In terms of phaseshifting, only the analyzer is rotated, and the other equations are deduced by applying a new numerical technique instead of the usual algebraic techniques. This approach can be used to calculate a larger sequence of images. Each image represents a pattern and a measurement of the stresses present in the object. A decrease in the mean errors was obtained by increasing the number of observations. A reduction in the difference between the theoretical and experimental values of stresses was obtained by increasing the number of images in the equations for calculating phase. Every photographic image has errors and random noise, but the uncertainties due to these effects can be reduced with a larger number of observations. The proposed method with many images and high accuracy is a good alternative to the photoelastic techniques.

Opis:
This paper presents chosen results of experimental and numerical research of ballizing process of the steel tubes. Ballizing process is a method of burnishing technology of an internal diameter by precisely forcing a ball through a slightly undersized premachined tubes. Ballizing process is a fast, low-cost process for sizing and finishing tubes. It consists of pressing a slightly oversized ball through an unfinished tube to quickly bring the hole to desired size. The ball is typically made from a very hard material such as tungsten carbide or bearing steel. Ballizing process is by cold surface plastic forming of the surface structure, thereby leaving a layer of harder material and reducing its roughness. After theoretical and experimental analysis it was determined that the smaller the diameter of the balls, the bigger intensity of stress and strain and strain rate. The paper presents influence of ballizing process on the strain and stress state and on the surface roughness reduction rate of the steel tubes.

The aim of this study was to determine biomechanical loads and subjective stresses on lumber graders and associated morbidity in a high risk and repetitive sawmill occupation. The exposures of all 29 male sawmill worker volunteers were recorded. Motion and posture were studied with electrogoniometers, muscle loads were recorded with surface electromyography, and psychophysical stresses were assessed with subjective responses. Fifty-nine percent of the participants reported greater than moderate discomfort in their taskdominant upper extremity. Job performance required an average range of motion of 44º, 21º, and 52º in flexion/extension, radial/ulnar deviations, and pronation/supination respectively. It also required an average of 9% maximum voluntary contraction force and was repeated an average of 34 times/min. This repetitive exertion over an 8-h shift was deemed to be a significant risk factor associated with prevalent upper extremity morbidity.

Opis:
Precise measurement of the inner structural strain of polymer bonded explosive (PBXs) granules during compression molding is highly desirable in order to investigate the inner stress distribution field and its underlying generation mechanism, with the aim of improving the stress distribution uniformity. In this contribution, TATB-based (1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene) PBX granules were formulated and the stress-strain state of the PBX granules during the warm molding process was analyzed. Strain markers were implanted at different locations and the deformation characteristics and regularity of the embedded spherical strain markers were obtained by X-ray micro-tomography. Thus the local strain states at different locations could be obtained, and the local stress state could be deduced. The results showed that axisymmetric deformation occurred in all of the strain markers, where the flat strain ellipsoids were mainly compressed uni-axially. In the central region, the stress was mainly in an axial direction, and the shear force was small. Not only axial stresses, but also large shear stresses in the surrounding region of the cylindrical grains were present. The stress gradient in the central region was greater than that in the surrounding region. The stress was greater in the surrounding region because this region was squeezed by the mold. The maximum strain degree was 44.8% larger than the minimum strain degree. The local stress increment in each region was quantified. The stress increments of the three axes were in the range 14.2-19.5 MPa. This study examined the feasibility of evaluating the inner stress–strain state of PBX granules in a quantitative manner, which is significant in determining the inner strain and stress distribution in PBX granules during the molding process.

In this paper, the mechanical response of generic dental implants having calculated porosities with varying pore-sizes has been evaluated. The purpose of this study was to compare the developed stress-strain of designed porous implants (i.e., stress at the implant and strain at the peri-implant bone) with that of the non-porous implant. Methods: 3D model of a mandible was prepared from CT scan data and nine generic dental implant models have been designed having 10%, 20%, and 30% porosity with 500, 700, and 900 micron pore size along with a non-porous model for carrying out FE analyses. First, failure analyses of implants, under a biting force of 250 N have been performed. Next, the remaining implants have been further evaluated under average compressive chewing load of 100 N, for mechanical responses at bone-implant interface. Results: Von Mises strain at the peri-implant mandibular bone increases with the increase in percentage porosity of the implant material and maximum implant stress remained much below the yield stress level. Conclusion: Implant stiffness and compressive strength vary as a function of porosity and pore size. Strain obtained on the peri-implant bone is sufficient enough to facilitate better bone growth with the 700 micron pore size and 30% porosity, thus reducing the effect of stress shielding.

Opis:
In this work the results of numerical stress analysis of single adhesive lap joints were presented. In the analysis both the linear-elastic and the elastic-plastic models of adherends materials were considered. Plastic deformation of adherends has a significant influence on the stress state in the adhesive layer. In the first part of the work the mechanical properties of adherends material obtained in experimental investigations were presented. In next part of the study the numerical model of joint was presented. The results of static analysis using the finite element method showed that in the case of joining materials with low value of yield stress the plastic deformation occurs in adherend at load much smaller than destructive force of the joint. In this kind of joints the plastic deformation of adherend has an influence on rapid stress increase in adhesive layer, in final stage of loading. This phenomenon causes a decrease of load capacity of single adhesive lap joints of elasticplastic materials.
Zjawisko to powoduje obniżenie nośności jednozakładkowych połączeń klejowych materiałów sprężysto-plastycznych.

This paper discusses the design analysis of closed vessel (CV) for power cartridge application in water-jet disruptor. In this article, various design theories are presented in which the vessel is subjected to internal pressure. CV is a kind of pressure vessel utilized to evaluate the performance of power cartridge used for water-jet application. It is a test vessel which generates pressure - time profile by burning the propellant. Energy derived from burning of the propellant of power cartridge aids in neutralizing Improvised Devices (IED's). This energy creates high water-jet plume in the disruptor. In order to evaluate various performance parameters of the cartridge, CV design plays a vital role in the research and development activities, including, development, life trials, production, lot proof trials and life extension / life revision trials. CV is one of the methodologies / techniques from which energy generated is measured in terms of the maximum pressure (Pmax) and the time to maximum pressure (TPmax). This paper also discusses about various design aspects using the finite element method (FEM) and their comparative results with different design theories. In the light of these theoretical, numerical, and experimental works, it was recommended that octahedral stress theory or van Mises theory should be used for vessel design. This satisfies the designer requirements. FEM analysis tool helps in reducing time & development cost.

The method of recognition of plastic strains with the use of optical interference was characterized in the work. The idea of the method was shown on the example test for 15HM steel tension. The results of experimental testing of plastic strains initiation in the thin shield with opening of O20 diameter under tension, especially considering round the hole zone were presented in further part of the work. The experiment was carried out with the use of method mentioned above. In the experiment the stresses initializing plastic deformations and the shape of plastic zone were determined. The stress state analysis in the hole zone in the specimen under tension was realized with the use of finite element method. The calculations were done for two significantly different hole diameters. The results of FEM calculations allow for certification that for the holes of diameters significantly bigger than the shield thickness round the hole plane stress state occurs.
