Opis:
The process of monitoring vehicles used in road transports plays an important role in detecting fraud committed by drivers. Algorithm designers face a number of challenges, including large number of vehicles monitored, demands related to online calculations, and ability to easily explain fraud alarms triggered to supervisors who make final decisions about actions to be taken. In this paper, we propose rather general, lightweight stream, online heuristics. The vehicle’s position is periodically controlled by a GNSS device. The algorithm detects potential illegal activities along the route between the origin and the destination. Anomalies in the vehicle’s trajectory are detected, based on a multi-resolution analysis of the economy of routes. The economy metric is easily understood and verifiable by controllers. The solution is also capable of identifying clearly suspicious trajectories that popular geofencing approaches would overlook. The scale on which the solution may be adopted is obtained thanks to the stream – like nature of the algorithm: essentially, the resources used do not increase along with the size of the input stream (the number of GNSS frames generated for the vehicle). An experiment illustrating the algorithm’s viability is presented as well.

In modern digital world, there is a strong demand for efficient data streams processing methods. One of application areas is cybersecurity - IPsec is a suite of protocols that adds security to communication at the IP level. This paper presents principles of high-performance FPGA architecture for data streams processing on example of IPsec gateway implementation. Efficiency of the proposed solution allows to use it in networks with data rates of several Gbit/s.

The tracking of moving objects with the use of GPS/GNSS or other techniques is relied upon in numerous applications, from health monitoring and physical activity support, to social investigations to detection of fraud in transportation. While monitoring movement, a common subtask consists in determining the object’s moving periods, and its immobility periods. In this paper, we isolate the mathematical problem of automatic detection of a stop of tracking objects under the stream processing regime (ideal data processing algorithm regime) in which one is allowed to use only a constant amount of memory, while the stream of GNSS positions of the tracked object increases in size. We propose an approximation scheme of the stop detection problem based on the fuzziness in the approximation of noise level related to the position reported by GNSS. We provide a solving algorithm that determines some upper bounds for the problem’s complexity. We also provide an experimental illustration of the problem at hand.

Various methods of dealing with linear support vector machine (SVM) problems with a large number of examples are presented and compared. The author believes that some interesting conclusions from this critical analysis applies to many new optimization problems and indicates in which direction the science of optimization will branch in the future. This direction is driven by the automatic collection of large data to be analyzed, and is most visible in telecommunications. A stream SVM approach is proposed, in which the data substantially exceeds the available fast random access memory (RAM) due to a large number of examples. Formally, the use of RAM is constant in the number of examples (though usually it depends on the dimensionality of the examples space). It builds an inexact polynomial model of the problem. Another author's approach is exact. It also uses a constant amount of RAM but also auxiliary disk files, that can be long but are smartly accessed. This approach bases on the cutting plane method, similarly as Joachims' method (which, however, relies on early finishing the optimization).

Recording, analyzing and visualization of data are carrying out in the central unit. Therefore, the system cannot scale in a simple manner. Presented solution enables to define query based on data streams that makes the updated answers currently available. Applying database management system that carries out its tasks based on presented assumptions enables the construction of monitoring system of distributed architecture

Opis:
Fetal monitoring system belongs to signal processing system class. The main functions of the system are signal acquisition from bedside monitors, on-line trace analysis and dynamic presentation of incoming data. Collected data set is controlled by centralised application. Relational database management system cannot process samples of high frequency biomedical signals on-line. Therefore, we decide to build our own data management system dedicated to stream processing that support continuous query. This paper describes a method of building a query plan based on proposed algebra. The presented example of application enables implementation of algorithm determining long- and short-term indices for fetal heart rate variability assessment on the basis of declarative query language. Our solution enables to define query based on data streams that make the updated answers currently available.

The study of language is shared by a number of fields, including linguistics, psychology, and neurobiology. While the methods employed by these domains may overlap, they differ in the focus of their scientific inquiry, and the unique perspective of each may inform investigation within the others. We conceptualize this relationship in the context of David Marr’s information processing theory, with neurobiology as the implementational level of language, and discuss the history of the neurobiology of language from early localizationist models to the present day. Decades of electrophysiological and anatomical studies of the macaque monkey support the existence of dual streams for the processing of auditory information. More recent neuroimaging studies suggest that these streams are also present in humans, subserving speech perception and language comprehension. The development of high resolution brain imaging methods and brain stimulation has advanced our ability to study, in vivo, the structures and processes underlying the language network. For those linguists interested in studying language with consideration of the system that implements it, theories and concepts may now be meaningfully informed by neurobiology.

Efficient decomposition of image processing algorithms is of paramount importance in designing FPGA based video detectors of objects for use, for instance, in surveillance systems or in road traffic control applications. Efficiency appraisal is done taking into account resource utilisation, capability of introducing new processing features and components costs. Real time processing adds additional constraints on this task. Available development tools do not facilitate the design process. The paper presents a method for decomposing the image processing algorithm into an efficient processing pipeline of parameterised components. The components perform low level image processing tasks and content tracking operations. Such a set of processing operations is adequate for designing video detectors of objects. Components for carrying out feature calculations using convolutions, morphology operators and corner detectors are presented. Their architecture is optimised for serial video streams, which provide the image contents using horizontal scanning. FPGA resource requirements are estimated for devices of leading manufacturers. The estimated processing speed exceeds the requirements of real time operation. Special attention is directed to pipelining calculations, streamlining multi operand computations, fast determination of minimum, median and maximum of values. An implementation of a video object detector, using a low cost FPGA, is presented proving the feasibility of this approach.
