Opis:
This article presents the results of the numerical investigation of the thermal stratification in the hot water storage tank. The exchanger consists of three tube coils that are immersed in the storage tank of hot water. Two coils—lower and upper—are designed to warm the water in the tank using the water as a heating medium. Another coil—uses the refrigerant for the waste heat transfer. The temperature stratification device is mounted in the thermal storage tank. The device’s task is to improve the thermal stratification level of heated water. The performed numerical simulations allowed us to obtain the temperature and velocity fields in the storage tank under the conditions of the work of coils filled with water. Calculations were made in the case of the use of the stratification device under the operating conditions of the 10.2478/amst-2019-0015upper and lower coils with water.

Opis:
The main aim of the analysis is to determine to what extent preference for specific musical genres is related to social position. The study was based on data from a survey conducted in 2019 on a random sample of Poles. The explained phenomena are six genres representing broad spectrum of musical tastes: classical music, jazz, rock, rap, pop, and disco polo. The results of the analysis indicate that the diversity of musical tastes does not come down to one dimension. Family socialization, educational level, and, in part, class position exert the highest impact not only on preferences of classical music but also on liking jazz, rock and disco polo. The class effect appears almost negligent in preference for pop and rap which lead us to general conclusion that cultural stratification does not cover all forms of activity having a selective effect. Musical preferences turn out to be extremely strongly connected with parent’s cultural capital and respondents’ level of education.

Our program, partially based on the European SCORECARD program, takes into account parameters such as age, sex, systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol concentration and cigarette smoking, and enables internet users to observe themselves to determine the degree of their CVD risk.

Opis:
The Dogons - it is one of the today better known tribes of the West Africa. Getting known their culture has been recently associate only with perfect investigations of French ethnologists concentrated around Marcel Griaule. The author, for the first time, encountered the Dogon Tribe over 30 years ago. The multiple returns (often to the very same places) have made possible to observe their culture within the space of many years. The author has got to know many representatives of this tribe, some of them fleetingly, but with some of them he has been in touch until today. Atmo Domno - an inhabitant of a village called Yougo Na can be rated among the second group. However, Atmo Domno was not an "ordinary" Dogon. By virtue of his birth, he belongs to a group of Dogons highly positioned within the social hierarchy, who decide about not only the village Yougo Na life, but also of whole tribe, as Atmo is a member of a group of so called "Impure". In the Dogon Tribe the "Impure" take care of rituals connected with death, they prepare deceased for the funeral and bury him, they make the offerings, eat sacrificed animals, build solitude huts for women, etc. The status of "Impure" is necessary to run for position of Olubaru - the leader of a secret association Awa. As opposed - the "Pure' innenomo can not do any rituals connected with death, make offerings or even hunt. But, on the other hand, the status of "Pure" in required for being a Hogona. With time, Atmo became a Binukedine (leader) of his clan, but he resigned at the moment of becoming Olubaru in the association Awa in Yougo Na, which means to have one of the highest religious statuses in Dogon Tribe. Olubaru from this village will have an unquestionable influence inter alia on: look and course of the forth- coming holiday of Sigui. Unfortunatel y, Amo had faint chance to live till this next holiday, as it will start around year 2028. Atmo Doumbo died in 2000. During my stay in Yougo Na in 2006, I was shown a several years old boy named Hamidou, in whose body lived a soul of nani Atmo, after his death, and who becomes the next "Impure".

This article concerns „gaokao” Chinese exams. I show how the „high stakes” tests (the essence of these exams) create the winners and losers in the battle for stratification success. They set up, as a one-time „selection act”, the trajectory of a career and the whole future life of young Chinese. At the same time, they are an example of the entanglement of the testing process in politics and of the enormous (and overwhelming) social pressure on young people.

In the second part of the article the phenomenon of overeducation and diploma in ation is considered as well as a case of higher education in Japan as a factor of social stratification in this country.

Opis:
The article applies in the Almeria speaking community the core value sociolinguistic methodology developed by J.J. Smolicz in Australia. The results demonstrate the absolutely nuclear role of language in that community, in all target groups. The case of Almería, very probably, shows a universal pattern of sociolinguistic behaviour. In principle, it confirms the theoretical and methodological hypothesis developed in Australia. They also highlight the relevance of interdisciplinary-based research, from which valuable descriptive results can be obtained for the disciplines involved.

Opis:
Monitoring of surgical outcome is increasingly important part of governance of surgical activity. The aim of the study. POSSUM scoring system was applied prospectively to determine how it performed in predicting morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy in our hospital, a group known to be at high risk of complications and death. Material and methods. A total of 100 cases of emergency laparotomies were studied in patients admitted in general surgery department during the period of May 2008 to August 2010. The study group consisted of the following cases. Duodenal perforation (37 cases), intestinal obstruction (27 cases), gastric perforation (8 cases), ileal perforation (8 cases), appendicular perforation (7 cases), blunt trauma (4 cases) and others (9 cases). They were scored using POSSUM scoring system. Physiological scoring was done at the time of admission and operative scoring was done intraoperatively. They were followed up for the first 30 day post operative period for any complications and the outcome was noted. The observed morbidity and mortality rates were compared with the POSSUM predicted morbidity and mortality rates. Results. 15 patients died (mortality rate of 15%). The POSSUM predicted mortality was 20 deaths. O:E ratio of 0.71 was obtained. There was no statistically significant difference between the observed and predicted mortality rates (χ2=1.72, p=0.974). 71 patients experienced complications. The POSSUM predicted morbidity was 61 patients. O:E ratio of 1.19 was obtained. There was no statistically significant difference between the observed and predicted morbidity rates (χ2=1.594, p=0.991). Conclusions. POSSUM scoring is an accurate predictor of mortality and morbidity following emergency laparotomy and is a valid means of assessing adequacy of care provided to the patient. POSSUM can be used for surgical audit to assess and improve the quality of surgical care and helps in better outcome to the patient

The main aim of the article is the analysis of the influence of clientelism and clientelist relations on the increase of economic stratification of societies of these countries. The broad study of the notion of clientelism is followed by the attempt to identify the causes of the emergence of clientelist relations, ranging from political and economical to social and cultural factors.
