    The paper is concerned with the asymptotic normality of a certain statistic based on the logarithms of disjoint m-spacings. The exact and asymptotic mean and variance are computed in the case of uniform distribution on the interval [0,1]. This result is generalized to the case when the sample is drawn from a distribution with positive step density on [0,1].

    The main purpose of this review article is to present the concept of a regulated function and to indicate the connection of the class of regulated functions with other significant classes of functions. In particular, we give a characterization of regulated functions in terms of step functions and we show that the linear space of regulated functions forms a Banach space under the classical supremum norm.

    W artykule przedstawiono sprzętową realizację komparatorów stochastycznych, porównujących niezależne losowe ciągi binarne. Wykorzystując skokową funkcję Heaviside'a, oraz stochastyczne układy mnożąco - sumujące, opracowano strukturę komparatora. Dla zapewnienia maksymalnej szybkości działania komparatora zastosowano elementy cyfrowe oraz rejestry przesuwające. Przeprowadzono syntezę komparatora w układach FPGA oraz przeprowadzono badanie prototypu, uzyskując wysoką szybkość działania oraz pewność realizacji funkcji skokowej.
    The paper presents a principle of operation of stochastic comparators and their role in modeling and controlling transport processes. For hardware stochastic comparators comparing synchronous binary random sequences, the block diagrams have been designed on AND and OR elements (Fig. 1) as well as on NAND elements (Fig. 2) applying the Heaviside step function. There is presented a functional diagram of a specialized stochastic comparator (Fig. 4) with hardware realization of the Heaviside function in which squaring (Fig.3) and stochastic multiply-adder circuits have been applied . In order to ensure the maximum operational speed of the comparator, logical elements and shift registers have been used. Specification of the comparator has been conducted in VHDL language, and its synthesis and implementation - in FPGA circuits. The results of simulation investigations confirmed the correctness of stochastic comparator operation. The step characteristics of comparator switching have been obtained after several strokes of circuit operation.

    This paper presents the development of a new one-step numerical technique for the solution of initial value problems of first order differential equations by means of the interpolating function. The interpolating function used in this paper consists of both polynomial and exponential functions. Numerical experiments were performed to determine the efficiency and robustness of the scheme. The results show that the scheme is computationally efficient, robust and compares favourably with exact solutions.

    To solve the dynamic response problems of magnetic coupling in the horizontal axis wave energy device, this has researched the dynamic characteristicsof magnetic coupling. The fitting formula about torque and angle of the magnetic coupling is obtained through experiments. The mathematical models of the magnetic coupling torque transmission are established. The steady state error of the magnetic coupling and the transfer function of the output angle are obtained. The analytical solution of the step response of the output angle in time domain is derived. The influence of the torsional rigidity, the damping coefficient and the driven rotor’s rotational inertia on dynamic characteristics of the magnetic coupling isanalyzed. According to the analysis results, the design rules of magnetic coupling are proposed.

    Let (Ω,Σ,μ) be a measure space with two sets A,B ∈ Σ such that 0 < μ (A) < 1 < μ (B) < ∞ and suppose that ϕ and ψ are arbitrary bijections of [0,∞) such that ϕ(0) = ψ(0) = 0. The main result says that if $ʃ_Ω xydμ ≤ ϕ^{-1} (\int_{Ω} ϕ∘x dμ) ψ^{-1} (\int_{Ω} ψ∘x dμ)$ for all μ-integrable nonnegative step functions x,y then ϕ and ψ must be conjugate power functions. If the measure space (Ω,Σ,μ) has one of the following properties: (a) μ (A) ≤ 1 for every A ∈ Σ of finite measure; (b) μ (A) ≥ 1 for every A ∈ Σ of positive measure, then there exist some broad classes of nonpower bijections ϕ and ψ such that the above inequality holds true. A general inequality which contains integral Hölder and Minkowski inequalities as very special cases is also given.

    The aim of this paper is to simulate the laminar motion of viscous incompressible fluid and the transition between the laminar and the turbulent state in simply connected domains. The developed numerical algorithms are based on the solution of an initial-boundary value problem for the full incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, written in the form of a fourth-order equation for the stream function. The spatial derivatives and the boundary conditions are discretized on uniform grids by means of sixth-order compact schemes together with fourth-order finite-difference formulas, while the continuity of the time variable is preserved. The resulting system of ordinary differential equations has been integrated using the backward-differentiation predictor-corrector method. The efficiency of the numerical algorithms is demonstrated by solving two problems of viscous liquid plane flows in a square driven cavity and a backward-facing step. Calculations for the cavity flow configuration have been obtained for Reynolds numbers ranging from Re=100 to Re=30000 on uniform 50×50 and 100×100 grids. Calculations for the backward-facing step have been made for Re ≤ 3000 with channel lengths, L, within the range 10-30, on 30L×30 uniform grids. The computed stream-function contours and velocity fields have been compared with numerical results reported in the literature.

    Przedstawiona praca dotyczy modelowania właściwości dynamicznych systemu naczyń krwionośnych. W pracy wykorzystuje się uzyskaną eksperymentalnie transmitancję fragmentu systemu naczyń krwionośnych znajdującego się pomiędzy stawem łokciowym i nadgarstkiem. W artykule rozważa się dwa modele podatnej tętnicy, które są badane w aspekcie dopasowania do danych uzyskanych doświadczalnie. Do dalszych prac zostaje wybrany model charakteryzujący się dużym stopniem dopasowania do danych eksperymentalnych, uwzględniający rzeczywiste zachowanie cieczy w odkształconej podatnie tętnicy.
    The paper concerns the modeling of dynamic specificity of blood vessel. The simple physical models of blood vessel part were investigated. In the experiments a PPG signal was used. The optoelectronic sensors were installed on a wrist and forearm. After the acquisition, the obtained samples of the PPG signal were identified by the RLS method. As a result of the experiments the transfer function of the investigated blood vessel part was obtained. This transmittance is described with Eq. (4), and its step response is shown in Fig. 2. In the work two physical models are considered. The structures of these models are shown in Figs.1 and 3. The first one uses the phenomenon of suppressed oscillations, while the second one - the phenomenon of impact of the liquid wave. The transfer functions of the models are described by Eqs. (6) and (13), respectively. In the study compatibility between the obtained transfer function and the physical models was verified. The transfer function of blood vessel and the transfer functions of physical models were compared. Their step responses were compared, too. Finally, the correspondence between the second physical model and the transmittance of the blood vessel part was experimentally proved.
