    The paper describes a system of steam boilers with the main attention drawn to the selected aspects of their operations in municipal district heating. The presented fuel characteristics show the characteristic factors in the described processes. The analysis reflects the simulations of fuel mixtures and their results in relation to the energy conversion processes in environmental aspects. Some considerations underline the results that have influence on the decisions pertaining to mixture composition. The paper presents comparative graphs and results in absolute terms. The conclusions are formulated taking into account the environmental effects, in particular localization of system elements and addresses the possible solution options to improve fuel mixtures and develop system efficiency.

    Ship large-power steam boiler may serve as an example of complex critical technical system. A basis for rational control of operation of such system is knowledge on its capability of fulfilling the tasks to which it was intended. In order to make it possible to apply computer aiding to operational decision-making the capability should be described analytically. In this paper it was proposed to express the capability of ship steam boiler ( considered a complex system) to perform service tasks, by calculating components of its usability potential in a given instant t. To this end , was distinguished a set of steam boiler fundamental features which formulate space of its technical states. Values and characteristic intervals of the features were defined and this way sub-spaces of serviceability and non-serviceability states of the object in question were determined. Next, in the considered space, technical state of the boiler and its usability potential was determined. Owing to this it become possible to quantitatively express the steam boiler functioning capability which served as a basis for elaborating an algorithm for controlling the operational processes of a complex technical system under action. In this paper is also described a way of application of the presented method to calculation of ship steam boiler usability potential, which may be especially instrumental in the case of operational control of the boilers of the kind , equipped with interstage reheaters, i.e. those operating with high values of operational parameters.

    Standardowe bilansowe próby kotła pokazują, że maksymalną jego sprawność notuje się przy zauważalnej niezupełności spalania. Tlenki azotu, które powstają w maksymalnej temperaturze, czyli przy braku chemicznej niezupełności spalania są substancjami o wiele bardziej toksycznymi niż np. tlenek węgla. Z tego też powodu zespół autorów podjął się opracowania i wdrożenia środków mających na celu obniżenie emisji toksycznych tlenków azotu dla atmosfery na przykładzie kotła DKVR-20-13 z trzema palnikami gazowo-mazutowymi GMGB-5,6. Skomplikowany charakter tego zagadnienia powoduje konieczność jego indywidualnego rozwiązania w każdym konkretnym przypadku nastawiania kotła z uwzględnieniem charakterystyk i szczegółów wszystkich składowych urządzeń całego zespołu kotłowo-paleniskowego. Zasadniczym problemem, na który natknął się zespół autorów już w trakcie prowadzenia prac badawczych okazała się kwestia poziomu odniesienia względem, którego określane powinno być obniżenie emisji. Autorzy podjęli w związku z tym decyzję, żeby za taki poziom odniesienia przyjmować faktyczną maksymalną emisję, weryfikując ją uprzednio z maksymalną dopuszczalną emisją tlenków azotu dla omawianych typów urządzeń. W swojej pracy autorzy przedstawili i przeanalizowali szereg wariantów służących zmniejszeniu emisji tlenków azotu do atmosfery. Wśród analizowanych sposobów znalazła się m.in. recyrkulacja spalin, wtrysk pary wodnej oraz inwentaryzacja kotłowni. Wstępna analiza teoretyczna a także doświadczenie zespołu badawczego pozwoliło polecić jako efektywną metodę zmniejszenia emisji tlenków azotu dla kotłów DKVR pracujących w trybie przemysłowo-grzewczym: metodę wtryskiwania pary do strefy spalania lub recyrkulację spalin. Pożądany efekt to co najmniej 30% obniżenie emisji tlenków azotu. Uzyskane przez autorów wyniki emisji NOx zaprezentowane zostały w pracy w dwojaki sposób: w przeliczeniu na masową emisję tlenków azotu (rys. 1) oraz jako wartość obiektywna w przeliczeniu na α = 1 (rys. 2). W trakcie prowadzonej analizy uwzględniano trzy poziomy ewentualnego wpływu emisji ze spalinami kotłów na zanieczyszczenie atmosfery, co uwzględniono i przedstawiono na rysunku 1. Zestawienie głównych mierzonych i obliczanych wartości, które charakteryzują działanie kotła zestawiono w tabeli 1. W niniejszej publikacji ponadto określone zostały faktyczne poziomy emisji tlenków azotu dla kotłów w stanie eksploatacyjnym a także opracowany został a następnie wdrożony układ zmniejszenia emisji NOX metodą wtryskiwania pary. Dodatkowo autorom udało się określić optymalny tryb pracy systemu zmniejszenia emisji, który pozwolił osiągnąć wymagane zakładane na wstępie 30% zmniejszenie. Zalecany w praktyce tryb pracy kotłów z włączonym systemem zmniejszenia emisji tlenków azotu nie powoduje obniżenia sprawności samego zespołu kotłowego.
    The standard sample balance of the boiler showed that the maximum efficiency has been observed in noticeable incompleteness of combustion. The nitrogen oxides which are formed at the highest temperature that is in the absence of chemical incompleteness of combustion are substances that are much more toxic than eg. carbon monoxide. For this reason the team of authors undertook the development and implementation of measures to the reduction of toxic emissions of nitrogen oxides to the atmosphere using boiler DKVR-20-13 with three gas/fuel oil burners GMGB-5.6. The complicated nature of the issue makes it necessary to have an individual solution in each case, in relation to the adjustment of the boiler, taking into account the characteristics and details of all components of the whole boiler-furnace mechanism. The principal problem which was encountered by a team of authors already in the process of conducting research turned out to be a matter of respect to a reference level, which should be referred to the reduction in emissions. The authors have therefore decided to be the reference for the actual take maximum emissions, verifying it previously with a maximum nitrogen oxide emission for these types of devices. In their paper the authors presented and analyzed a number of options to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere. Among the methods which were analyzed among others exhaust gas recirculation, injection of steam and boiler room inventory. Preliminary analysis of theoretical as well as experience has allowed the research team to recommend as an effective way to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides DKVR for boilers operating in industrial and heating mode: a method of injecting steam into the combustion zone or flue gas recirculation. The desired effect is at least 30% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions. The results obtained by the authors of the NO emission results were presented at work in two ways: in terms of mass emissions of nitrogen oxides (Figure 1) and as an objective value per at alpha = 1 (Figure 2). In the course of their analysis takes into consideration three levels the possible impact of emissions from the flue gas boilers atmospheric pollution, which take into account and are shown in Figure 1. Selection of the main measured or calculated values that characterize the operation of the boiler are summarized in Table 1. This publication also sets forth the actual levels of emissions of nitrogen oxides for boiler in operating condition and has been developed and then implemented the system to reduce emissions NOx using steam injection. In addition, the authors were able to determine the optimal mode of operation of the system to reduce emissions, which helped achieve the required, presupposed a 30% decrease. Recommended in practice mode enabled system boilers to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides does not reduce the efficiency of the boiler.

    Construction elements of power blocks such as collectors, separators or steam valves work in hazardous environment. During start-up and shut-down operations they are exposed to sudden temperature and pressure changes, that cause high stresses at certain points. Additionally, the cyclic character of loading causes material fatigue, known as low-cyclic fatigue, which may lead to the formation of fracture. Manufacturers of steam boilers provide instructions for heating and cooling processes in order to operate safely. It is important to find the optimum parameters for heating and cooling operations, i.e. parameters that enable to conduct heating and cooling in the shortest time and keep the maximum stresses in the construction within allowable limits. Efforts are made to develop an appropriate method for determining optimum operating parameters during start-up and shut-down phase of the power units. In this paper two optimum parameters will be found. Based on these parameters heating and cooling processes will be carried out and compared with heating and cooling operations processed according to the German boiler regulations Technische Regeln fur Dampfkessel 301 (TRD).
    W pracy przedstawiono metodę do wyznaczenia takiego przebiegu temperatury czynnika, aby maksymalne naprężenia cieplne powstające podczas rozruchu lub odstawiania bloku energetycznego nie przekraczały naprężeń dopuszczalnych. Przy założeniu liniowej postaci przebiegu temperatury czynnika poszukiwane są dwa parametry. Przebiegi naprężeń cieplnych uzyskane przy nagrzewaniu lub ochładzaniu, przeprowadzonych według zaproponowanej metody, porównane są z przebiegami uzyskanymi na podstawie Niemieckiej Normy Technische Regeln fur Dampfkessel 301 (TRD).

    The aim of this article is work modelling of superheater SH3. It is made of the austenitic stainless steel Super 304H. Its design temperature T is 604 C, and the design pressure P acting on the inner surface of the pipes is 284 bar. The high temperature is the reason of the superheater work under creep conditions. In this article calculations of the optimally mounted coil superheater SH3 are presented. The calculations are carried out first on the basis of the applicable European standards and with the help of the Auto Pipe program. Then, calculations are performed using the ANSYS program based on conducted creep tests and proposed creep equation. The coefficients in creep equation are determined based on the research conducted at the Instytut Metalurgii Żelaza in Gliwice. The model approximates the creep strain as the function of time and stress and this function is presented in the form of a three-dimensional surface . The results of calculations by both methods will be compared and conclusions will be presented. The performed analyzes can estimate the superheater coil remnant life and the usage after the selected time of its operation.
    Celem artykułu jest modelowanie pracy wężownicy przegrzewacza pary SH3. Wykonany jest on ze stali austenitycznej Super 304H. Temperatura obliczeniowa T przegrzewacza SH3 to 604oC, zaś ciśnienie obliczeniowe P, działające na wewnętrzną powierzchnię rur, wynosi 284 bary. Wysoka temperatura pracy sprawia, że przegrzewacz pracuje w warunkach pełzania. W artykule zostaną przedstawione obliczenia wytrzymałościowe dla optymalnie zamocowanej wężownicy przegrzewacza pary SH3. Obliczenia będą prowadzone najpierw na podstawie obowiązujących norm europejskich i za pomocą programu Auto Pipe. Następnie zostanie przedstawione modelowanie pracy wężownicy przegrzewacza przy wykorzystaniu programu ANSYS na podstawie przeprowadzonych prób pełzania i proponowanego równania pełzania. Współczynniki w równaniu są wyznaczone na podstawie badań przeprowadzonych w Instytucie Metalurgii Żelaza w Gliwicach. Opracowany model aproksymujący odkształcenia pełzania w zależności od czasu i naprężeń będzie pokazany w postaci trójwymiarowej powierzchni. Przedstawione zostanie porównanie wyników uzyskanych z obu metod oraz wynikające z tego porównania wnioski. Przeprowadzone analizy pozwolą na oszacowanie czasu pracy rur przegrzewacza oraz określenie jego zużycia dla wybranego czasu eksploatacji.

    One of the major concerns of the power energy industries is a proper operation of steam power blocks. Pressurized working medium and high temperature cause very high stresses in the construction elements such as collectors, separators or steam valves. They are exposed to sudden temperature and pressure changes that cause high stresses at certain points. Additionally, the cyclic character of loading causes material fatigue, known as low-cyclic fatigue, which may lead to the formation of fracture. Thus, methodologies offered by many companies should ensure reliable and safe operation of steam power blocks. The advanced numerical solutions for determining time-optimum medium temperature changes are presented. They are based on Levenberg-Marquardt and nonlinear programming by quadratic Lagrangian methods. The methods allow us to find parameters for start-up and shut-down operation that can reduce total stresses to limits governed by European regulations. Furthermore, the heating and cooling operations are conducted in a shortest time possible.

    Modern supercritical power plants operate at very high temperatures and pressures. Thus the construction elements are subjected to both high thermal and mechanical loads. As a result high stresses in those components are created. In order to operate safely, it is important to monitor stresses, especially during start-up and shut-down processes. The maximum stresses in the construction elements should not exceed the allowable stresses that are defined according to boiler regulations. It is important to find optimum operating parameters, that can assure safe heating and cooling processes. The optimum parameters define temperature and pressure histories that can keep the highest stresses within allowable limit and reduce operation time as much as possible. In this paper a new numerical method for determining optimum working fluid parameters is presented. In this method, properties of steel can be assumed as constant or temperature dependent. The constant value is taken usually at the average temperature of the operation cycle. For both cases optimal parameters are determined. Based on these parameters start-up operations for both cases are conducted. During entire processes stresses in the heated element are monitored. The results obtained are compared with German boiler regulations - Technische Regeln fur Dampfkessel 301.

    Construction elements of supercritical power plants are subjected to high working pressures and high temperatures while operating. Under these conditions high stresses in the construction are created. In order to operate safely, it is important to monitor stresses, especially during start-up and shut-down processes. The maximum stresses in the construction elements should not exceed the allowable stress limit. The goal is to find optimum operating parameters that can assure safe heating and cooling processes [1-5]. The optimum parameters should guarantee that the allowable stresses are not exceeded and the entire process is conducted in the shortest time. In this work new numerical method for determining optimum working parameters is presented. Based on these parameters heating operations were conducted. Stresses were monitored during the entire processes. The results obtained were compared with the German boiler regulations - Technische Regeln fur Dampfkessel 301.

    This article presents selected material characteristics of VM12 steel used for elements of boilers with super- and ultra-critical steam parameters. In particular, abridged and long-term creep tests with and without elongation measurement during testing and investigations of microstructural changes due to long-term impact of temperature and stress were carried out. The practical aspect of the use of creep test results in forecasting the durability of materials operating under creep conditions was presented. The characteristics of steels with regard to creep tests developed in this paper are used in assessment of changes in functional properties of the material of elements operating under creep conditions.
