Opis:
Selection of components in contemporary computer networks is extremely important, not only because of the project budget but also because of the network performance. Therefore, it is necessary to perform tests before deploying devices. In this paper the authors show that the performance of test network devices is dependent on the nature of network traffic including its statistical properties. Also a new hybrid model of the system for testing the network device based on the q-additivity of traffic flows was proposed.

The rates of return of listed companies are subject to numerous studies, particularly those listed on the stock exchange. Information about rates of return are useful primarily for investors choosing an investment, estimating its risk and profitability of the investment made. Among these studies, many of them are devoted to the examination of the statistical properties of the rates of return. The aim of the article is to examine the statistical properties of the monthly rates of return of companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in the period of 2005-2015. Such parameters as mean value, standard deviation, semi-standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis will be studied, and whether the rates of return have a normal distribution. These properties will be investigated for the whole market and broken down into bull and bear market conditions.

Przedmiotem rozważań w niniejszej pracy jest strumień urobku generowany przez koparkę kołową, mając na uwadze jego właściwości statystyczne. Informacja o zidentyfikowanych własnościach stanowiła podstawę do wyboru modelu opisującego ten strumień. Analiza została dokonana w oparciu o dane kopalniane, jakie zebrano przy realizacji pracy doktorskiej wykonywanej na Politechnice Wrocławskiej. W literaturze opisującej wnioskowanie o właściwościach strumienia na podstawie zebranego materiału, zaprezentowano nieco inne rezultaty aniżeli w niniejszej pracy.
A subject of consideration here is a stream of excavated rock won by BWE taking into account statistical properties of the stream. Information on the identified properties was a ground to select an appropriate model that describes the stream. Statistical analysis was done basing on data collected from the field investigation that was carried out to accomplish Ph.D. dissertation realised on Wrocław Technical University. In literature describing statistical inference on the properties of the stream a different approach and results are presented than that described here.

Opis:
Widely distributed freshwater carbonate sediments, i.e., limestone, dolomitic limestone and dolomite, developed in inter-dune alkaline ponds of the Danube-Tisza Interfluve in the centre of the Carpathian Basin during the Holocene. The key parameters that determine the formation of any given type of carbonate mineral (calcite, dolomite) are temperature, evaporation rate, pH and ion concentrations, in addition to CO2 absorption by aquatic plants. CT analysis is capable of recording small-scale density variations attributable to compositional differences of sedimentary rocks. As the type and proportion of rock-forming minerals and other components is an artifact of past environmental and climatic conditions, CT values may act as potential palaeoenvironmental proxies. The present study compares variations in rock-forming components obtained for freshwater carbonates utilizing the CT method with already available geochemical and palaeoecological proxy data. Variations in molluscan ecology and isotope geochemistry, sedimentation times and CT-based rock density values all indicate the relevance of millennial-scale, climate-driven changes in carbonate formation. As previously observed, the emergence of colder conditions in the North Atlantic, which resulted in increased cyclonic activity and heavier rainfall in western Europe and the Danube watershed area between 10.3 and 9.3 kyr cal BP, resulted in the emergence of humid conditions favouring a rise in the groundwater table at our site and precipitation of calcite from pore waters as opposed to high-magnesium calcite. This is clearly reflected in a negative shift in CT density values in our dated rock samples.

The article is devoted to issues related to the use of statistical properties of legal texts for searching legal information. Methods are presented that allow to enlarge the set of found documents by including those semantically close to the initially found ones. Providing the ability to search for such collections of documents allows to better satisfy the needs of the system users. The article presents the theoretical foundations of enlargement operations based on performing specific treatments in the so-called semantic space of terms and semantic space of documents. The article deals particularly with the methods which allow to determine the set of similar documents by using statistical properties of documents. The research carried out under the ERASMUS program conducted by K. van Noortwijk and R. V. de Mulder is presented in detail. A critical analysis of the measures used in this research was carried out, as well as an analysis of the reasons why the proposed methods didn’t lead to fully satisfactory results.

In this paper a new one-parameter lifetime distribution named “Sujatha Distribution” with an increasing hazard rate for modelling lifetime data has been suggested. Its first four moments about origin and moments about mean have been obtained and expressions for coefficient of variation, skewness, kurtosis and index of dispersion have been given. Various mathematical and statistical properties of the proposed distribution including its hazard rate function, mean residual life function, stochastic ordering, mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, and stress-strength reliability have been discussed. Estimation of its parameter has been discussed using the method of maximum likelihood and the method of moments. The applications and goodness of fit of the distribution have been discussed with three real lifetime data sets and the fit has been compared with one-parameter lifetime distributions including Akash, Shanker, Lindley and exponential distributions.

In the framework of the Matrix Product States representation the effect of a sudden quench of the uniaxial anisotropy on the time evolution of the Haldane state has been investigated. The existence of the non-vanishing string correlations in the limit of a large distance in the Haldane phase has been verified. The overlap of the initial and time-evolved states, the so-called Loschmidt echo, has been investigated.

Opis:
Algorithms based on statistical models compete favorably with other global optimization algorithms as proved by extensive testing results. Recently, techniques were developed for theoretically estimating the rate of convergence of global optimization algorithms with respect to the underlying statistical models. In the present paper these technictues are extended for theoretical investigation of P-algorithms without respect to a statistical model. Theoretical estimates may eliminate the need for lengthy experimental investigation which previously was the only method for comparison of the algorithms. The rcaults obtained give new insight into the role of the mnderlying statistical model with respect to the asymptotic properties of the algorithm which will be useful for the implementation of new versions of the algoritlmns.

Opis:
The necessity to develop an optode array in order to probe the fetus oxygenation noninvasively regardless of the fetus position has been highlighted in previous literature. In this paper, a series of optical simulations are carried out to determine the best representation of optode array by using optical properties at systolic and diastolic states. The selection is based on the highest flux values accumulated at respective detectors. To accomplish the objective, a homogenous three-layer semi-infinite tissue model is implemented to represent the pregnant woman model. The geometry of the model as well as Monte Carlo simulation are carried out using commercial software, whereas the optical properties related to systolic and diastolic states are defined for all wavelengths. A statistical noise analysis is also introduced in order to find a sufficient number of rays to be launched into the optical tissue system.

Due to its low surface energy, easy dispersion, high homogeneity and whiteness, coated (modified) calcite has increasingly been used in many industries, particularly in the plastics. The demand for this product will most likely increase in the years to come. Surface modification of calcite with a fatty acid would lead to a great expansion of industrial applications. The color values of coated calcite products are the first quality parameter. Therefore, it is very important to monitor the variations in the color characteristics of the coated calcite products. It is well known that statistical process control (SPC) techniques have been widely used in the many industries. In the present study, the surface of micronized calcite was coated with stearic acid by a pin mill. X-R control graphics and process capability index were applied for monitoring variations in quality control based on color parameters (L*, a* and b*) for the pin mill plant. In addition, active ratio, particle size distribution, whiteness parameters, BET, FTIR, TGA-DTA and SEM were then determined on a coated calcite sample. The results show that the pin mill plant seems under control and the coating technology is very effective in modifying the surface of micronized calcite products.

The results of statistical analysis applied in order to evaluate the effect of the high melting point elements to pressure die cast silumin on its tensile strength Rm, unit elongation A and HB were discussed. The base alloy was silumin with the chemical composition similar to EN-AC 46000. To this silumin, high melting point elements such as Cr, Mo, V and W were added. All possible combinations of the additives were used. The content of individual high melting point additives ranged from 0.05 to 0.50%. The tests were carried out on silumin with and without above mentioned elements. The values of Rm, A and HB were determined for all the examined chemical compositions of the silumin. The conducted statistical analysis showed that each of the examined high melting point additives added to the silumin in an appropriate amount could raise the values of Rm, A and HB. To obtain the high tensile strength of Rm = 291 MPa in the tested silumin, the best content of each of the additives should be in the range of 0.05-0.10%. To obtain the highest possible elongation A of about 6.0%, the best content of the additives should be as follows: chromium in the range of 0.05-0.15%, molybdenum 0.05% or 0.15%, vanadium 0.05% and tungsten 0.15%. To obtain the silumin with hardness of 117 HB, chromium, molybdenum and vanadium content should be equal to about 0.05%, and tungsten to about 0.5%.

The paper presents the results of the application of a statistical analysis to evaluate the effect of the chemical composition of the die casting Al-Si alloys on its basic mechanical properties. The examinations were performed on the hypoeutectic Al-Si alloy type EN AC-46000 and, created on its basis, a multi-component Al-Si alloy containing high-melting additions Cr, Mo, W and V. The additions were introduced into the base Al-Si alloy in different combinations and amounts (from 0,05% to 0,50%). The tensile strength Rm; the proof stress Rp0,2; the unit elongation A and the hardness HB of the examined Al-Si alloys were determined. The data analysis and the selection of Al-Si alloy samples without the Cr, Mo, W and V additions were presented; a database containing the independent variables (Al-Si alloy's chemical composition) and dependent variables (Rm; Rp0,2; A and HB) for all the considered variants of Al-Si alloy composition was constructed. Additionally, an analysis was made of the effect of the Al-Si alloy's component elements on the obtained mechanical properties, with a special consideration of the high-melting additions Cr, Mo, V and W. For the optimization of the content of these additions in the Al-Si alloy, the dependent variables were standardized and treated jointly. The statistical tools were mainly the multivariate backward stepwise regression and linear correlation analysis and the analysis of variance ANOVA. The statistical analysis showed that the most advantageous effect on the jointly treated mechanical properties is obtained with the amount of the Cr, Mo, V and W additions of 0,05 to 0,10%.

W pracy przedstawiono zastosowanie regresji wielokrotnej do określenia zależności między wynikami pomiarów parametrów geomechanicznych złoża i skał otaczających. Wyniki pomiarów gromadzone były w dokumentacji kopalń LGOM. Stosując wybrany model regresji, wyznaczono odpowiednie postacie funkcji. Obliczenia wykonano oddzielnie dla stropu, wyrobiska i spągu i na przykładzie dwóch kopalń "Rudna" i kopalni "Lubin".
Application of multi regression method for determination of relationships between geo-parameter values of seams and surrounding rocks was described in the paper. Data were taken from LGOM mine files. By means of regression method a specific functions were established. Calculations were carried out for seam, roof and floor rocks of "Rudna" and "Lubin" mines.
