Opis:
Gears are essential machine elements used to transmit power and motion from one unit to another under desired angular velocity ratio. Various types of gears have been developed to fulfill power transmission requirements in industrial applications. Under normal or fluctuating operating conditions, increase in fatigue load cycles, transition in lubrication regimes, fluctuating loads and speeds, etc., result in various surface fatigue wear modes which affect the performance of geared system. The severity of wear anomalies developed on gear tooth surfaces can be assessed by using vibration signals acquired from the gear box. On the other hand, reliable wear assessment is very important to perform maintenance action which depends on the sensors, data acquisition procedure, vibration signal analysis and interpretation. This paper presents results of the experimental investigations carried out to assess initiation and propagation of surface fatigue failure wear modes developed on gear tooth contact surfaces. A FZG back to back power recirculation type spur gearbox was used to conduct fatigue test experiments on spur gears under accelerated test conditions. Accelerated test conditions resulted in a rapid transition of lubrication regimes, i.e., hydrodynamic lubrication regime to boundary lubrication regime which triggered surface fatigue faults on gear tooth surfaces. A cepstral analysis method was used to assess fault severity in the geared system. The results obtained from the cepstral features were correlated to various surface fatigue faults and reduction in gear tooth stiffness. Results obtained from the experimental investigations highlighted the suitability of cepstral features to assess incipient faults developed on spur gear tooth surfaces.

Opis:
Nowadays, plastic gears are more commonly used. The Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces (TPMS) structure can perfect the design to reduce weight but still achieve the desired workability criteria. It can also be adjusted more easily and scientifically than the empirical structure optimization based on experience. Currently, the fabrication of gears with complex internal structures such as TPMS is possible thanks to 3D printing technology. This study investigates the mechanical properties of a TPMS structure when applied to Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) plastic gears. The research content includes displacement, deformation, and Von-mises stress to evaluate the stiffness and strength of gears. The structure used to optimize the gear mass is the Gyroid structure, developed in the cylindrical cell map and studied in the paper. The goal of the research is to apply the Gyroid structure to optimize mass while still ensuring gear performance. This study not only offers new insight into the importance of the control variables for TPMS structures but also provides a mass lean process for gear designers. It uses experimental design methods to choose a suitable topology structure, and the final research result is a regression equation, which clearly shows the close relationship between the volume reduction and displacement with the specified control variables of the unit cell. From there, it is possible to determine the proper amount of material reduction while ensuring the working ability of the gear transmission.

Opis:
With the developing of science and technology the use of gears has become more common in all the upcoming industries. Accessory units used in aircraft provide the power for hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems in addition to providing various pumps and control systems for efficient engine operation. The design of an effective and reliable gearing system is governed, amongst other factors, by its ability to withstand high root bending stress (RBS) and surface contact stress(SCS). A number of authors have utilized thefmite element method to predict RBS and SCS in gears. This paper presents the utilization of a three-dimensional (3D), finite element method (FEM) to conduct RBS and SCS calculations of a pair ofspur gears. Firstly a pair of parallel spur gears without errors and tooth modifications is defined in a CAD system. Then, MES analysis is conducted. Using FEM to calculate the RBS the load is applied as a force to the tip of the gear, it is modeled as a linear force uniformly distributed along the face width and perpendicular to the tooth surface. The SCS is considered as nonlinear contact analysis, where the contact of the pair of gears is assumed on teeth flanks. The tooth RBS and SCS of the same pair of gears are calculated and presented. Gears with wrought alloy steel are considered. The results are compared with the ISO standards, Levis formula and Hertz equation. The analysis was made for applied moment equal: 600[Nm], 1200[Nm] and 1600[Nm]. It was found that the calculated results are comparable. Finally, an example of calculating a pair of spur gears is given in the paper.

In this paper, we propose a new approach for taking into account uncertainties based on the projection on polynomial chaos. The new approach is used to determine the dynamic response of a spur gear system with uncertainty associated to gear system parameters. The simulation results are obtained by the polynomial chaos approach for dynamic analysis under uncertainty. The proposed approach is an efficient probabilistic tool for uncertainty propagation. It has been found to be an interesting alternative to the parametric studies. The polynomial chaos results are compared with Monte Carlo simulations.

Opis:
The progress of additive manufacturing technology brings about many new questions and challenges. Additive manufacturing technology allows for designing machine elements with smaller mass, but at the same time with the same stiffness and stress loading capacity. By using additive manufacturing it is possible to produce gears in the form of shell shape with infill inside. This study is carried out as an attempt to answer the question which type of infill, and with how much density, is optimal for a spur gear tooth to ensure the best stiffness and stress loading capacity. An analysis is performed using numerical finite element method. Two new infill structures are proposed: triangular infill with five different densities and topology infill designed according to the already known results for 2D cantilever topology optimization, known as Michell structures. The von Mises stress, displacements and bending stiffness are analyzed for full body gear tooth and for shell body gear tooth with above mentioned types of infill structure.

Opis:
Określenie wpływu nowego rodzaju oleju smarowego (np. ekologicznego) czy nowego sposobu modyfikacji powierzchni zęba (np. poprzez naniesienie cienkiej, twardej powłoki niskotarciowej) na trwałość kół zębatych jest możliwe jedynie poprzez zastosowanie badań eksperymentalnych. W tym celu w Zakładzie Tribologii ITeE – PIB w Radomiu opracowano urządzenie T-12UF do badania tarcia i zużycia kół zębatych walcowych w układzie mocy krążącej.
Finding the effect of a new type of a lubricating oil (e.g. ecological one) or a new way of the tooth flank modification (e.g. by deposition of a thin, low-friction coating) on the life of gears is possible only experimentally. For that purpose, at the Tribology Department of the Institute for Sustainable Technologies in Radom (ITeE – PIB), a new test rig, denoted as T-12UF, has been developed. It is intended for the back-to-back testing of the friction and wear of spur gears. Three dangerous forms of wear can be tested: scuffing/scoring, pitting, and micro pitting. In the paper, a modified version of the T-12UF test rig is presented, namely the test rig denoted as T-12UM. For the purpose of implementation in a lab of one of the domestic technical universities, the new test rig needed to be validated using reference oils having extremely different extreme-pressure (EP) properties – oils called “Low” and “High.” Two gear scuffing test methods were used. Four reference oils (two of every “Low” and “High”) for each test method were employed. During the validation, the authors checked if it is possible to identify the appearance of scuffing/scoring by monitoring the friction torque. The obtained results of the validation are as expected, which indicates that the new test rig runs properly and the scuffing test methods are realised correctly.

Opis:
In the previous study, we designed one personal rescue winch for high-rise building rescue. Its key requirement is to be small and light enough to suit users. In addition to using lightweight and reasonable materials as in the proposed winch design, in this study, we proceed to optimize the weight of one two-level gear train, which accounts for a large proportion of weight. The first stage is building a weight optimization problem model with seven independent variables, establishing one optimal algorithm, and investigating the variables by Matlab software. The other is replacing the web material of the gears and pinions with Aluminum 6061-T6 and optimizing their hole diameters and hole numbers through using Ansys software. The obtained result shows a significant weight reduction. Compared to the original design, the weight reduces by 10.21% and 52.40% after the first optimal and last stages, respectively.

Opis:
Gear teeth are deformed due to the load. The deformation of gear teeth is causing some negative as well as positive effects. A tooth has a complex shape and due to the complex shape of the teeth, a theoretical determination of the deformation is difficult. The existing experimental techniques are based on static deflection measurements gearing loaded of constant force or seismic measurement deviations at slow rotation. Recently, at ever faster evolving computer technology and the available literature, we can encounter modern numerical methods, such as finite element method (FEM), which can serve as methods for the determination of teeth of gearing. The article is devoted to the problems of gearing stiffness analysis. The problem is solved for spur gears. Deformation analysis solved by FEM is used for calculations of the gearing stiffness. There are many influences that cause vibrations in the gearbox and that have to be taken into account already in the phase of design, manufacture, installation and operation. Detailed analysis of gearboxes manufacturers have shown that improving of the gear accuracy cannot reduce the transmission unit noise to the desired level. Only fundamental changes to the shape of the tooth and changes in production technology can achieve stronger noise reduction of gear mechanism.

Spur gears are the most well-known kind of gears used in hybrid vehicle’s power transmission. They have straight teeth, and are mounted on parallel shafts. In some cases, many spur gears are utilized without a moment's delay to make huge rigging decreases. In this paper how stress creates on a spur equip under various conditions and conditions and reenactments of a rigging system (two spur gears) is assessed by Ansys workbench. For this static structural and dynamic analysis modeling is utilized. A couple of spurs equip tooth in real life is by and large subjected to two sorts of cyclic stress: contact stress and twisting stress including bowing fatigue. The two stresses may not accomplish their greatest esteems at a similar purpose of contact fatigue. These sorts of failure can be limited by analysis of the issue amid the outline organize and making appropriate tooth surface profile with legitimate assembling strategies.
