Opis:
This study examines the optimal parameters for obtaining fluorine-doped SnO2 (FTO) films with promising potential for photovoltaic applications. Due to its properties, tin oxide is used in a wide range of technologies, among which the manufacture of solar cells is one of the most important. Being doped with fluorine, tin dioxide becomes a good transparent and conductive electrode, suitable for solar cell applications. The chemical stability and low cost of the doped SnO2 makes it an advantageous alternative to tin-doped indium oxide (ITO). Among the most important characteristics of FTO thin films are high photoconductivity under sunlight irradiation and strong UV absorption. The SnO2 compound, doped with fluorine, exhibits a considerable chemical and physical stability, good electrical conductivity and high transmission (over 85%) in the visible range. The spray pyrolysis technique is the most preferable and efficient deposition method of fluorine-doped SnO2 thin films. This work aims to identify the optimal parameters for the spray pyrolysis of SnO2:F films and to analyze the morphology, transparency and strength of as obtained films in relation to the doping amount in the precursor solution, spraying distance and film thickness.

Thin films were prepared based on cellulose polymer doped with different ratios of natural dye derived from Portulaca grandiflora concentrations. The polymer and natural dye were extracted from eco-friendly materials - the cell walls of millet husks and Portulaca grandiflora, respectively. The spray pyrolysis technique was applied to prepare thin film samples to control the film morphology and reduce the roughness of the surface. Optical microscope and Fourier transform infrared were used to analyse structural, morphological, and functional groups for all samples, respectively. The peak absorbance, extinction coefficient, optical bandgap, Urbach energy, and optical conductivity for the thin films were determined using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The results show an enhancement in the optical characteristics when the natural cellulose is doped with a dye. Doping cellulose with 5% P. grandiflora has led to a considerable reduction in the energy bandgap (to 1.95 eV), compared to the sample doped with 1%.

An optimum route to synthesis the W-based composite powders with homogeneous dispersion of oxide nanoparticles was investigated. The La2O3 dispersed W powder was synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis using ammonium metatungstate hydrate and lanthanum nitrate. The dispersion of Y2O3 nanoparticles in W-La2O3 powder was carried out by a polymer addition solution method using yttrium nitrate. XPS and Tem analyses for the composite powder showed that the nano-sized La2O3 and Y2O3 particles were well distributed in W powder. This study suggests that the combination processing of ultrasonic spray pyrolysis and polymeric additive solution is a promising way to synthesis W-based composite powders.

XRD analysis for calcined powder showed the formation of WO2 phase by partial oxidation of W powder during calcination in air. The TEM and phase analysis for further hydrogen reduction of calcined powder mixture exhibited that the W powder with a uniform distribution of Y2O3 nanoparticles can be successfully produced. These results indicate that the wet chemical method combined with spray pyrolysis and polymer solution is a promising way to synthesis the W-based composites with homogeneous dispersion of fine oxide particles.

Opis:
Spray pyrolysis is a recognized technique for the preparation of multi-walled Carbon Nano-Tubes (CNTs). Likewise, gas-phase plasma synthesis has the best potential to produce nanoparticles with narrow sized distribution in short times. Here we present a combination of both concepts to design an atmospheric-pressure plasma reactor in a configuration which can be scaled for massive production of few-walls CNTs. This hybrid setup uses a pneumatic nebulizer which produces an aerosol from a solution of toluene (the carbon source) in the presence of ferrocene (the catalyst). The mist goes toward the plasma zone, which is generated by a DC-soldering torch. The plasma effect is to reduce the droplet size of the nebulizer. By this mean the agglomeration of Fe nanoparticles is reduced and consequently, the number of walls and diameter of CNTs are decreased.

The simple and continuous synthesis of single crystalline anatase titanium dioxide and sodium titanate nanorods by a saltassisted ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method is demonstrated. This method does not require expensive precursors, long reaction time, and physical templates or surfactant. In addition, its continuous nature makes it a suitable method for the large-scale preparation. Moreover, the effect of a salt concentration in a starting solution on material properties, including morphology and phase of the synthesized products was systematically investigated. The synthesized nanorods had one-dimensionality, a single crystalline and the average diameter of 12.3 nm with dual phases of titanium dioxide and sodium titanate by FE-SEM, XRD, HR-TEM as well as FFT-converted SAED pattern analysis.

In this work, nickel-cobalt oxide (Ni(1-x)CoxO) thin films, where x = 0, 4, 6 and 8 % have been successfully deposited on glass substrates by chemical spray pyrolysis (CSP) technique at substrate temperature of (400 °C) and thickness of about 300 nm. The structural and optical properties of these films have been studied using XRD, AFM, and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The XRD results showed that all films are polycrystalline in nature with cubic structure and preferred orientation along (111) plane. The crystallite size was calculated using Scherrer formula and it is found that the undoped NiO sample has maximum crystallite size (51.16 nm). AFM results showed homogenous and smooth thin films. The absorbance and transmittance spectra have been recorded in the wavelength range of (300-900) nm in order to study the optical properties. The optical energy gap for allowed direct electronic transition was calculated using Tauc equation. It is found that the band gap decreases as the Co-concentration increases and the band gap values were in the range of 3.58-3.66 eV and 3.58 eV for the prepared Nickel-Cobalt Oxide thin films. The Urbach energy increases as the Co-concentration increases and the Urbach. The optical constants including (absorption coefficient, real and imaginary parts of dielectric constant) were also calculated as a function of photon energy. Refractive index and extinction coefficient for Nickel- Cobalt Oxide thin films were estimated as a function of wavelength.

Zinc oxide thin films was deposited by chemical spray pyrolysis (CSP) at 400 °C substrate temperature and different thickness (60, 80, and 100) nm on the texturized p-Si wafer to fabricate ZnO/p-Si heterojunction solar cell. Structural, optical, electrical and photovoltaic properties are investigated for the samples. XRD analysis reveals that all the as deposited ZnO films show polycrystalline structure, without any change due to increase of thickness. Average diameter calculated from AFM images shows an increase in its value with increasing thickness, ranging from 59.82-95.7 nm. The optical reflections for samples are measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra of (CSP) grown ZnO/p-Si with different thickness were used to study the energy gap. The electrical properties of heterojunction were obtained by I-V (dark and illuminated) and C-V measurement. I-V characteristic of the ZnO/p-Si heterojunction shows good rectifying behavior under dark condition. The ideality factor and the saturation current density was calculated. Under illuminated the photovoltaic measurements (open-circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current density (JSC), fill factor (FF), and quantum efficiencies are calculated for all samples. The built- in potential (Vbi), carrier concentration and depletion width are determined under different thickness from C-V measurement.

In this work, TiO2 nanoparticles and submicron-sized granules were synthesized by a hydrothermal method and spray pyrolysis, respectively. Submicron-sized granules were dispersed into the nano-sized TiO2 layer to improve the light conversion efficiency. Granules showed better light scattering, but lower in terms of the dye-loading quantity and recombination resistance compared with nanoparticles. Consequently, the nano-sized TiO2 layer had higher cell efficiency than the granulized TiO2 layer. When dispersed granules into the nanoparticle layer, the light scattering was enhanced without the loss of dye-loading quantities. The dispersion of granulized TiO2 led to increase the cell efficiency up to 6.51%, which was about 5.2 % higher than that of the electrode consisting of only TiO2 nanoparticles. Finally, the optimal hydrothermal temperature and dispersing quantity of granules were found to be 200°C and 20 wt%, respectively.
