    The aim of the paper is to establish the functional equivalence between the terms 'football fan' in German and Polish. Functional equivalence presupposes that lexemes occur in the two languages in a convergent syntagmatic environment. The analysis of co-occurring lexemes will be based on establishing the correlations of German units using the DWDS Wortprofil tool and the DWDS corpus, and for the Polish language – WordSketch and the plTenTen corpus. Detailed analysis and comparisons of co-occurrence (co-occurring adjective and verb groups with the highest frequency are analysed according to their syntactic functions and semantic groups) allows for establishing partial equivalence between the analysed lexemes and to state that the German terms ‘Fan’ and ‘Fußballfan’ cover the meaning of the neutral lexeme ‘kibic’ as well as the meaning of the lexeme ‘pseudokibic’ with negative connotations

    This paper discusses the presence of food-related phraseology in Italian football language and Italian football chronicles and its Polish functional equivalents. The study demonstrates the significance of the relation between contrastive linguistics and applied phraseology as brodino and mozzarella have more than one functional equivalent in Polish. Brodino can be translated as strzał tylko do statystyk, zbyt lekki strzał, zbyt lekki strzał w sam środek bramki and mozzarella as niesatysfakcjonujący remis, niedosyt, ciężkostrawny podział punktów, zwycięstwo potrzebne z uwagi na trudną sytuację w tabeli, trzy cenne punkty. As the author indicates, the presence of food-related phraseological units in Italian football terminology proves that culture-related aspects are crucial to master the target language. Hence, the role of such terminology in transla-tion of specialist and journalistic texts and the role of phraseological competences in the process of foreign language teaching should be highly important in educational processes.

    Artykuł dotyczy sposobu funkcjonowania języka specjalistycznego w wypowiedzi dziennikarza relacjonującego emitowane „na żywo” zmagania sportowe. Na podstawie obserwacji warstwy słownej telewizyjnych transmisji z meczów siatkarskich autorka dochodzi do wniosku, że formy fachowe są obligatoryjnymi składnikami komunikatu formułowanego przez sprawozdawcę. Umożliwiają one bowiem nie tylko precyzyjne określanie konkretnych technik czy akcji sportowych, ale także warunkują symultaniczność dziennikarskiej narracji i przedstawianych telewidzowi rozgrywek.
    The article concerns the functioning of the specialized language in statement of journalist, who covers live broadcast of sports competitions. On the basis of observations of the verbal layer of volleyball matches telecasts the author concludes that professional forms are mandatory elements of the commentator’s communique. They not only enable a precise terming techniques or sports actions, but also condition the simultaneity of the journalistic narration and games presented to the viewer.

    Polish sports vocabulary uses a variety of sources, including lexical elements of various origin that include foreign lexical elements. A fairly significant part of this vocabulary consists of words and expressions that include in their composition onomastic, toponymic and anthroponymic components. An analysis of this vocabulary proves that, from among sports terms with the onomastic component, nominations that stem from the Mediterranean, Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon traditions are decidedly dominant, whereas those of Polish origin are rare and infrequent.

    The article provides information on the contemporary Polish sports terminology. It provides evidence for its dynamic quantitative development conditioned by various factors, mainly the extra-linguistic ones. Additionally, it points out fundamental qualitative changes, first of all ever progressing stylistic differentiation which finds reflection, among others, in the monographic and lexicographic descriptions of sports vocabulary.

    Within the sports language, the lexical level is composed of slang, specialized terminology and figurative lexicon. This work analyzes the lexical-semantic characteristics of the football language in a corpus of news chronicles of Real Madrid football matches, published on the web site marca.com. We focus on the fundamental lexicon of these chronicles, as well as on the core concepts of them, their designations and the means of meaning.

    The language of sport has not been a widely researched area in Polish studies. The communication-related change, the development of social media, the commercialisation of sports are the most important factors contributing to transformations noticeable in the discussed language variety. This paper adopts the medialinguistic perspective and attempts to describe the primary directions of changes in the language of sport, with a particular focus on the fading boundaries between the individual subtypes which have been discussed in taxonomies to date.

    W artykule zaprezentowano porównanie współczesnych telewizyjnych transmisji sportowych z transmisjami z lat siedemdziesiątych i osiemdziesiątych XX wieku. Ponad trzydzieści lat to dla telewizji okres dużych zmian zarówno technologicznych, jak i kulturowych. To także czas zmian w zakresie metodologii, która dawniej koncentrowała się przede wszystkim na strukturalizmie. W artykule wykorzystano wyniki badań Jana Ożdżyńskiego i Wacława Cockiewicza, w odniesieniu do których scharakteryzowano współczesne transmisje. W aspekcie językowym widać przede wszystkim duże zmiany w zakresie liczby wypowiadanych słów, a także struktury składniowej.
    The paper includes a linguistic specification of the television genre, which has rarely been studied. Monographs regarding live sports coverage were written in the 1970s and 80s, i.e. over thirty years ago. For television, that period was a time of change, both technological and cultural, however, considering different methodologies, which in the case of the studies mentioned was more structuralism-focussed. In terms of language can be seen especially large changes in terms of the number of words and syntatic structure.

    Przedmiotem opracowania są tytuły występujące w internetowych komunikatach audiowizualnych, czyli wideoblogach sportowych prowadzonych przez polskich dziennikarzy w serwisie YouTube. Badania, w których wykorzystano perspektywę medioonomastyczną, potwierdzają, że tego typu nazwy są redagowane zgodnie z podstawowymi zasadami formułowanymi przez copywriterów i specjalistów do spraw marketingu internetowego. Rezultatami analiz są: przedstawienie struktury tytułów odcinków wideoblogów sportowych, zaprezentowanie najczęściej wykorzystywanych przez nadawców sposobów oddziaływania na odbiorcę oraz wskazanie podstawowych funkcji omawianego elementu.
    The subject of the article are the titles appearing in online videos — sports vlogs run by Polish journalists on YouTube. The research was prepared using the perspective of medioonomastics. It confirms that titles are created in accordance with the basic principles formulated by copywriters and Internet marketing specialists. The results of the analysis are presentation of the structure of the titles of sports vlogs episodes, description of the most frequently used methods of influencing the recipient by youtubers and an indication of the basic functions of the discussed element.

    The study explores the motivational profiles of Spanish EFL sports science university students from the second language (L2) motivation self system (L2MSS) perspective to ultimately support Spanish higher institutions´ plans committed to improving employability and competitiveness. The study analyzes the relationships between L2 motivation, L2 proficiency, gender, and L2 contextual variables using data from 196 English as a foreign language (EFL) sports science university students. The data reveal that the ideal L2 self construct stands out as the most salient and powerful factor, while the ought-to and rebellious L2 selves are less significant and there are items loading on both of them at the same time. Thus, higher means for the ideal L2 self motivation correspond to higher levels of L2 proficiency and are supported by L2 learning contextual variables. The strongest ought-to L2 self was registered in students with mid-low L2 proficiency and a lack of L2 learning experiences. Meanwhile, the rebellious L2 self is clearly distinguishable only for students with high L2 proficiency. Pedagogical and curricular implications of these findings are that the ideal and the rebellious L2 selves could positively predict students´ L2 proficiency. Thus, new dynamics of education should explore language teaching methodologies that are more likely to enhance students´ ideal and rebellious L2 selves.

    У статті проаналізовано особливості моделювання спортивного лексикону української мови на основі авторської комп’ютерної програми «Verbarium». Ця програма відображає тематичні кластери лексикону української мови, зокрема таких ігрових видів спорту, як баскетбол, волейбол і футбол на початку ХХІ століття. «Verbarium» дає змогу систематизувати дані та моделювати лінгвальні факти за семантичним, таксономічним, формально-структурним і функціональним параметрами. База даних «Семантична стратифікація» репрезентує багаторівневу семантичну ієрархію тематичних кластерів. База даних «Таксономія» експлікує таксономічні ранги спортивного лексикону: терміни спортивної галузі; екстрагалузеві термінологічні одиниці; термінологізовані загальновживані лексичні одиниці; номенклатуру; професіоналізми, професійний жаргон. У базі даних «Формально-структурні типи» віднесено лексичну одиницю зі спортивної сфери до однієї з груп: слова, які виникли типовими для національної мови словотвірними способами; багатокомпонентні лексичні одиниці; іншомовні запозичення. У базі даних «Функціонування» зафіксовано контексти вживання лексики одиниць у спеціальній і неспеціальній сфері.
    The article analyzes the peculiarities of modeling the sports lexicon of the Ukrainian language on the basis of author’s computer program «Verbarium». This program displays thematic clusters of the Ukrainian language lexicon, in particular such game sports as basketball, volleyball and football at the beginning of the 21st century. «Verbarium» makes it possible to systematize data and model lingual facts according to semantic, taxonomic, formal-structural and functional parameters. The «Semantic Stratification» database represents a multi-level semantic hierarchy of thematic clusters. The «Taxonomy» database explains the taxonomic ranks of the sports lexicon: sports field terms; extra-industry terminological units; terminological commonly used lexical units; nomenclature; professionalism, professional jargon. In the «Formal-Structural Types» database, the lexical unit from the sports field is assigned to one of the groups: words that arose according to wordforming methods typical for the national language; multi-component lexical units; foreign loanwords. The «Functioning» database records the contexts of the use of vocabulary in the special and non-special spheres.

    This paper focuses on the present and past pronunciation and spelling forms of the Polish and Ukrainian phonemes /ł/ /l/ and /v/. The problem of substituting the native Polish phonemes /ł/ and /w/ by /l/ and /v/, respectively, emerged when the names of the official mascots for the UEFA 2012 football championships in Poland and Ukraine were announced. The names Slavek and Slavko are meant to relate to the common Proto-Slavic root *Slavo- or *-slav, followed by the language-dependent exponents: -ek for Polish and -ko for Ukrainian. Owing to the fact that neither in Polish nor Ukrainian has the phonological assimilation of /ł/ and /l/ taken place, neither of the spelling forms or pronunciations ([Slavek] or [Slavko]) is systematically jusitified. There are no systemic grounds for the spelling of the native names with v, either. If the two names in question are to symbolize the core of Slavic tradition and heritage for the purposes of popularizing the championships, and if the way in which the names are spelled is influenced mostly by the Anglo-centric language fashion, we deal with an obvious case of linguistic ignorance of the decision makers, and with a peculiar kind of cultural schizophrenia.
